Is it possible to put Alien ware or any other high performance laptop parts in a Gateway computer? I would like to upgrade my Gateway Laptop with better parts and hopefully a cooler laptop casing. Anything that anyone can tell me would be helpful.
Can any of my laptop computer parts still be used? I have 3 broken laptops now. I have a Gateway laptop that is 9 years old. It's gotten 7 years of use out of it. I have a Dell Inspiron 8600 which is only 3 years old, but the screen is going out, and the hard drive is overheating, so we are not spending anymore money on fixing it. I have a Toshiba Sattelite Laptop with a broken Screen about 1 year old works fine hooked up to a monitor. What parts can I save from these laptops to use in my current computers HP Pavilion Laptop 4 mo. old, 3 year old Compaq desktop, or 8 year old Dell Desktop (needs restored because of virus).

Has anyone had a bad experience with a Gateway computer? I bought a Gateway laptop at Best Buy and the screen went out while under warranty. I brought it back to Best Buy. It is taking so far over 8 weeks to get my computer repaired and get it back. They waited 6 weeks for one part- got it then ordered another part. What a bummer.
Gateway Laptop Question? I'm a high school student going into college in 3 months. Since piratically every college student whose taking computer engineering is required to have a laptop I decided to go to future shop and find one for myself. In there I found a descent computer, a gateway NV5909H. But after coming back from the store with it my family told me that gateway uses cheap parts and my laptop will fall apart in under 2 years. So I'm just wondering if what they are saying is true because I don't want it to blow up in my face after 2 weeks of use.
When viewing a site on my GATEWAY Laptop, it often clicks to a GATEWAY search page. How do I stop this? It is very frustrating when I am viewing a website, and without any effort on my part, the computer clicks over to a GATEWAY search page. It does this several times a day and it is disruptive. How can I stop this from happening?
Anyone that has owned (or owns) a Gateway computer...particularly a laptop? But if you own a desktop, feel free to chime in, too. Found one at a good price and am considering a purchase, but I've never purchased that brand before. If you have, are they a solid choice...or would I have to buy an extra one for spare parts? :) Please, if you think they suck, fine, but if you're going to bother to answer, tell me WHY you think they do. What problems you've had. Dont just throw two words together for points. Thanks to all in advance.
Bad computer repair service from Best Buy? Hi- I bought a Gateway laptop computer from Best Buy. Under warranty from Gateway the computer screen went out. Best buy did a diagnostics that I had to pay 70$ dollars for. They said the mother board went out- in the end it was a computer screen. Best buy sent the computer to their office in Kentuky and there it is waiting for a part from Gateway. It has been 6 weeks and no guarantee when I will get the computer fixed and returned. In the meantime I have no replacement and the warranty is running out if I need the computer repaired again. Best Buy says that it is Gateway that is responsible even though I bought the computer at Best Buy. Any one else have such a bad experience with service under warranty? Any suggestions?

where can i find a gateway laptop m-series cpu fan and heatsink? My fan has broken and I can't find one anywhere. Does anyone know an online parts store where that might have it. It's a Gateway M Series, Model SA6. Please help I miss my computer!
Where can i get the best, top of the line, computer parts for reasonably great prices? Ok, so I want to get the Dell Alienware M17x gaming laptop and i was wanting to know where the best place or site to get top-of-the-line parts with fairly good prices is. I curently have a 17' Gateway MX7834. So ultimately I'd like to just upgrade my gateway to better or as close to the M17x as possible. Also, if anyone can tell me what the best parts available I'd greatly appreciate it.
How do I reactivate the "scroll by touch" feature on my Gateway laptop? It suddenly stopped allowing me, why? I was working in power point when my computer froze. Consequently, my laptop now will not allow me to utilize the part of the touch-sensitive-mouse-pad that is located to the far right on the pad. This normally allowed me to scroll pages simply by sliding my finger up or down. I'd appreciate any suggestions as to what may have caused this anomaly and how I might repair it. Thank you

Gateway Laptop System restore problems?!?!? Alright; I had my computer's hard drive replaced by best buy but when I got it back and needed to reinstall my OS; the disk was corrupt. So I bought restore DVDs that are supposed to restore my operating system, applications, and drivers. (Bought from Gateway through the recovery media purchase program) However when I put the first DVD in it loads up to a screen that has a blank window labeled "Dialogue" and in the background it says "GATEWAY please wait..." SO I sent my computer back to best buy and they replaced the harddrive again(this time I was in a different state so its not the same bestbuy) I also bought another restore DVD set and the same problem occured. Can I get help please? the P/N for the disk is 7520965R My computer is a Gateway P-6860 FX IF you need any more information email me at 1337.etoile@gmail.com My DVD drive has also been replaced; and I have installed linux on it though I uninstalled it so I could use up all of my hard drive space for windows vista. The entire laptop has been taken apart and looked at by geek squad and all damaged parts were replaced The CD/DVD drive is set to boot first; I have removed everything from the boot list except the HDD and the CD/DVD drive

HELP!!! Gateway MT6831 AC Adapter? I have a Gateway MT6831 laptop computer. The other day my charger went out. And gateway doesn't sell replacement parts. They just sell overpriced items. Does anyone know a good safe site, where i can find a replacement charger that isn't that expensive. $50+ not including shipping is expensive. Please I really need this. Thanks for you help.
Why does my computer screen flicker? I have a Gateway laptop that I bought in January of this year. Within the past couple of months, the monitor flickers black. The entire display goes in and out. Mostly, it happens when I first turn the computer on but it it seems really random. There doesn't seem to be anything that I'm doing in common when it happens. When I open and close the screen, it fixes it temporarily so I'm inclined to think there is something wrong with the connection between the lcd screen and the computer. I am still covered under my warranty and I sent the computer back to Gateway twice for repairs. Each time it came back with the same problem. My question has two parts. 1) Any idea what could be wrong with it and 2) Can I sue Gateway for a defective piece and failure to comply with the warranty by not fixing the problem?
Can other parts of my computer be good enough to somehow compensate for my bad graphics card? So, I recently bought this laptop on sale at office depot. It's from the Gateway M series, the M-6827. Here are its specs: Intel Core 2 Duo T5750 2.00 GHz 3.00 GB Memory (RAM) 32-bit Operating System Integrated Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3100 More specs at: http://www.premiumgeeks.com/laptop/gateway-laptop/gateway-m-6827-specs/ As far as I can tell my laptop looks pretty good as far as games go. With the exception of the graphics card. Now for the weird part. I can run games that require a higher level of graphics card without lowering the settings. Games like Civilization 4 and Battlefield 2142 Northern Strike run fine on my computer. I'm debating whether or not I should get Elder Scrolls 4 (Oblivion) for my computer because I'm unsure as to whether or not I can run it without a better graphics card.
Why is the power cord not charging my Gateway Notebook? I just purchased a brand new battery and ac adapter power cord for my Gateway M-Series laptop from Gateway.com. With the new parts, the computer turns on and loads, but it only stays on for about 5 minutes before shutting off again. The battery icon on the lower right side of the screen does not show the "charging" icon while the power cord is plugged into it. Could it be something inside of the laptop, like the connection between the power cord and the battery? Has anyone else ever had an issue with this and how did you solve it? Thanks
What do I do if I can't find my "Gateway Restore Disk" and my expert says he needs it to redo my computer?? My Gateway laptop bit the dust and the computer expert says I need to uninstall everything so he can "restore" my original computer and reinstall all my programs. We've moved a few times recently. I have my Gateway Drivers CD and most of my software programs, but I cannot find the Gateway Restore disk. Also, the expert told me part of the problem is having something like Yahoo Messenger on my computer (I never use it.) or downloading music. (I've never used anything like itunes.) What can I do??? Thanks for any advice!

My Gateway laptop makes constant loud beeping noises due to a loose AC wire? My Gateway laptop makes a very loud and unpleasant sound when the AC adaptor is either plugged in or unplugged. The wire (or inlet) happens to be very (increasingly) loose so it will often abruptly come in and out over and over again making a series of loud beeps that can only be ceased by muting all sound on the computer. I once solved this problem a month or two ago by finding a "System Sounds" option on the volume levels and muting that successfully stopped the beeping without forcing me to mute everything else, for a while. I keep my computer on for several days at a time, putting it in "sleep mode" when I'm done using it and just opening it up again when I want to use it again, so each booting of the computer is about a week apart. So after one of the few times I restarted the computer not too long ago, the beeping started again. System Sounds somehow suddenly became completely related to the awful beeping noise, and I am once again forced to mute the whole computer if I don't want my ears assaulted every time I move a muscle with the computer anywhere within a five-inch radius of my body. Is there any other way to get rid of the beeping noise, or any explanation for why the determining factor of whether the beeping happens or not completely shifted from "System Sounds" to some other unknown part of this computer?
Problems with my gateway laptop battery and the model number? I bought a laptop in May of last year, and for some reason, when its plugged in to charge< it goes in and out of thinking its plugged in or not. The screen goes from light to dark, etc. I'm looking to buy a new adapter for it, but I dont know what model it is to buy the correct one. Its black, has a silver stripe going down the back of it, has a widescreen monitor, and a built in webcam. If anybody can tell me what model this is, or the correct adapter to use (it has a yellow tip on the computer plug part, but a lot of them seem to have that) i thank you soooooo much. Thanks!
I have a Gateway Laptop. I was watching a TV show on the net. It made a funny nosie and shut down.? I tried to bring computer back up. I only get as far as the black screen with white writing offering me to reinstall with disc, choose "safe" etc. Could some part have blown out or could it be a virus. I have had computer for about 4 yrs. Would it be cheaper to get it fix or buy a new one?
Upgrading from a Gateway P-6860 FX Laptop to a Dell - Studio XPS Desktop? Well the title says it all pretty much. I'm looking to upgrade and a friend of mine was telling me about the Dell XPS studio. Has anyone heard anything good about it? I like the fact that it's got the i7 processor, but I don't like that it's got ATI in it, more of an Nvidia fan. I heard that Dell has done away with having to use specific parts though so would I be able to throw in a better power supply/ other parts? Below are the links to each computer. Gateway (current): http://reviews.cnet.com/4507-3121_7-32976305.html Dell (upgrade): http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Dell+-+Studio+XPS+Desktop+with+Intel%26%23174%3B+Core%26%23153%3B+i7+Processor/9697488.p?id=1218153426530&skuId=9697488&st=XPS&cp=1&lp=1
Is this laptop a good deal? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834101229 So this Gateway laptop on newegg seems pretty solid based on the price. 650 for a laptop with i5, a decent (laptop) videocard that supports directx 11 and decent battery life seems pretty good for this price. My only problem with this (slight problem) is that it's a Gateway, which doesn't exactly have the best rep when it comes to reliability. Any thoughts on if this is worth it? Any feedback from those with a Gateway laptop? Also, if I'm wrong in assuming the parts are decent, feel free to correct me. I think I'm pretty good with computers and computer parts, but I could be wrong!
Computer upgrades help! Gateway.? I have a Gateway notebook model M-1634u. I want to upgrade some parts. I bought the computer in february and I want to upgrade the Video Care ( Currently ATI 1250x ). I also want to upgrade the fan because mine sucks. Is there any way to do this to a laptop? If not is there any solution to make this computer better for playing games?
Gateway Computer Help-GATEWAY MT6916? I have an issue. I am currently covered under the Gateway One Year manufacturer warranty. The alt key on the right hand side of my Laptop has broke off...I called gateway about it and they gave me two options, I could send my computer to them and they fix it, or they could send me the keyboard and I call them and we replace it together over the phone. I choose, 2 weeks ago, to do it myself with their keyboard. I received it today. Gateway scared me out of doing it myself and now are mailing me a box to mail my laptop to them. They said for people who have never done this before, it is too risky. Then, I just found out that Circuit City AND Best Buy both offer help and they can service it (if I already have the part) and they BOTH only charge $39.00 for this service. I don't know what of these four options I should do. What would you do. Would you trust gateway, yourself, Best Buy, or cirucit city...HELP ME!!
Can I upgrade my laptop? Hello there. I have a little Gateway laptop I got from walmart, so obviously, it's nothing special power-wise. I mean, it's good for what it was built for, and that's browsing the internet and media and such. However, i've been meaning to get a computer for gaming reasons, but I figure that I already HAVE a computer, so that's a starting point, right? I actually know a bit about various computer parts, but I know pretty much zip about upgrading a laptop. So, first off- does upgrading a little laptop like this even sound like a rational idea? I could probably go out and dish some cash to build a computer from scratch, but like I said I figured i'd start from a base(besides, this computer was a christmas gift, and I don't want to get rid of it and offend the person who bought it for me. Besides, I do actually like it a lot.) Two: How difficult are laptops to take apart and upgrade? I would imagine pretty difficult. Anywho, please help and give me some suggestions and recommendations if possible.
Gatorade spilled on top of the CLOSED gateway laptop? Will it work still? Last night I spilled gatorade on top of my Gateway laptop and I cleaned as much up as possible and I think it got inside of my laptop too. It was all wet on the carpet and i took the battery out and wiped it off but it wasn't wet. And then I let it sit for over night (from 2am til 2pm) And I turned it back on and it started beeping. And then it wouldn't go to the User's. It goes to this screen and has all this stuff pop up about the computer. I'll explain that part later. Anyways, I blow dryed it all low warm heat and low cool heat. Do I need to take it back? I'm pretty sure I got a warranty on it. My dad bought it for Christmas for me. I've had it since Christmas. I'm 16. Any help?!??!!
My Gateway laptop's wireless connection does not work. However, Ethernet connection does. What's happening? My Fn button appears to be functional, as the wireless connection indicator light is lit - but I can only access the Internet hard-wired. Can there be a simple solution to this problem? Is there an easily replaced part such as one that came up during a gateway.com search that came up with a PDF manual that has a section called Replacing the Wireless Network Module. I have limited technical understanding of computers, but am quite comfortable with the Removal and Replacement of parts, as I am mechanically capable of such tasks. There is another laptop in the house that can access the internet wireless, so the problem is not with the router. Please help me. Hello David and Thank you for your input. My Wireless icon lights up when I hold and press the Fn & F2 keys and likewise is unlit when repeated. My wife's laptop has wireless connection so this all indicates a faulty Wireless Card of sorts within my laptop because all seems to be in working order, but my wireless connection. Gateway wants to charge about $1 per minute for phone support for this out of warrantee laptop. For about $25, I can get a new card that seemingly installs rather easy. Your thoughts from here would be helpful and appreciated. Of course, that goes for any one else who can elaborate on my circumstance. I would even appreciate anyones advice on where to purchase such new parts at the best prices.
Question about old computer? i have a 17 inch gateway laptop, about 4 years old, the computer crashed and wont even turn on and the screen is busted, i already have a new laptop so there's no use in having it repaired. So is there any place that would buy the computer for the parts?
My Gateway Laptop won't turn on. What's the problem? So I was on my laptop last night and it was working fine, or so I thought. Turned it off, went to bed etc etc. Came home a few hours ago and tried to turn on my computer, and it wouldn't. I have a Gateway NV5214u, and the start button is on the side. I pushed the button, and for a few seconds it sounds like it's going to start; the fan or drivers or whatever start going (I really think it's the fan) but then after a few seconds it just kinda dies down, and stays at a really low rpm. So I can touch the buttons for like volume and stuff, and they light up (they're on a touchscreen type part, not regular buttons), but the screen doesn't even turn on, nothing else starts up etc. So, technically it still turns on, but I can't do a damn thing... I asked my tech friend if he had any suggestions and he said it sounded like the fan might not be working, so it throws an error code and it won't turn on. I could understand that, like a failsafe...if the fan won't work, it won't cool properly so why even turn on...but he wasn't actually around, so he couldn't be sure. So obviously, I need to know what it is. Like I said, I'm guessing it's the fan or maybe the motherboard. The battery's been fried for awhile, so I have to leave it plugged in. I never plugged it in to another outlet, but I really don't think that's the problem. Please please help me. Thanks. Actually it's not that old. I got it August 31, 2009, so it's only 19 months old. And in any case, being a Gateway doesn't really help my situation.
Gateway laptop sound does not work. Need a working driver? Here is the problem. I have an old gateway laptop (model number MX6437) that had issue's and needed a re-format. Since doing so, the sound does not work. I am unable to find a working driver. I have checked the gateway website as well as the realtek website for the AC 97 driver that the card seems to use. Every driver I attempt to install goes thru the setup and fails no matter what. Part of the issue could very well be that I do not have XP sp2 installed. I cannot get SP2 because Microsoft all of a sudden in the last couple years decided to add a verification to check for authenticity of your XP installation. My XP SP2 disk was lost about a year ago when I moved, and I was forced to use a copied version of XP sp1, and I cannot update to SP2 because the computer will fail verification. I have a feeling this is why the driver does not work, if anyone knows of another driver that may actually work, I would appreciate a link or information.

Has anyone ever filed a dispute through the warranty on a Gateway laptop? Hi...I purchased a Gateway laptop almost two years ago. At the time of my purchase I did not buy an extended warranty but just went with the one-year warranty that came with it. I did renew for an additional year near the anniversary date of my purchase. Well, now it's been almost two years and my extended warranty is about to expire. The problem is this: I have sent my computer in for repairs (the same repair) three times now in the last five months. I don't have it back yet but don't anticipate that it will be fixed completely either. I have one month left on my warranty and would imagine that they'll hang on to it as long as they can. Their customer service hasn't been any better. Innumerable times I've called and they don't even have a record of my machine. My experience with them has been BEYOND belief. I will never buy another Gateway machine. That being said, I'm not ready to just let them off the hook either. According to my warranty documents, if I choose to pursue this, I am required to file a dispute through a third party, which is identified in my warranty. Has anyone else done this? Is it worth my time and hassle? I would even consider being part of a class-action law-suit or something. I can't believe they get away with stuff like this.
I've got a Gateway 7730 Laptop and it's having problems, what's wrong with it? Okay after calling the company they told us the only thing it could be was the fan that cools the laptop was not operating properly. But I was reading some info on computers and some of the other problems we've been having with it, overheating, shutting off randomly, and not booting up all the time, or starting to boot up and then staying at the black screen. I have read that it could be motherboard problems? I don't know anything about motherboards, although I have the feeling that it controls the computer :s Okay so if it is the motherboard is it expensive to replace, does the whole thing need to be replaced or can parts of it be salvaged. We have a 3 year warrenty through Bestbuy and we are still well within those limits but I don't know if that is something that is covered. Help! I am so confused.....
How do you remove the harddrive from a gateway w730-k8x laptop? I have a gateway w730-k8x laptop, my son pulled it from table, while it was running, a few weeks later it wont boot windows, says its missing some file. I took it in the guys says probably the hard drive and he can fix it for 75 + 25 labor, but he wants to fix everything on the laptop, claims that is their policy. That would mean about $600 worth of parts and labor, so I am going to attempt it myself. I know some about working on a personal computer, but have been unable to open the case for the laptop. I have searched gateway and other sites, but as it is an older laptop (apprx. 2004) I cannot find any guides on it. Any and all help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
What is causing my laptop to turn off? I have a gateway MX6027 laptop that turns off when you move it or flex it. It does not warn you that it is going to go off it just goes off like you would have unplugged it and removed the battery. It is plugged in to the electric. I know there is something loose inside but I don't know what part is loose. What could be loose that would cause the computer to turn off when moved?

I don't know what of these four options I should do. What would you do. Would you trust gateway, yourself, Best Buy, or cirucit city...HELP ME!!
What is the best computer company? I've recently had a horrific long-term experience with Gateway (owned by Acer) which, in fact, I'm still going through. I haven't bought a computer since, say, 2002, and I'm horrified at how terrible computer companies have become -- specifically Gateway and Acer who I pledge to NEVER buy from again. It seems that every computer company has their support in India where they don't train the people, and it also seems that the parts used in computers today are cheap, cheap, cheap and defective. I'll be going to college soon, and I want a computer that's: 1) first and foremost, reliable, and won't quit on me like this Gateway laptop has. 2) I don't want to buy from some company like Gateway or Acer where they couldn't give a **** for their customers -- where they have their support in India, and are secretive when it comes to their corporate and repair facility phone number out of fear of customer backlash. I'd like to buy from a company that actually cares about their customers, and preferably has support here in the United States, or at least close to it. And, of course, support where the people won't chew your head off just for calling. Might anyone have any recommendations as to where to take my business to? I've heard terrible things about HP, Dell, Gateway, Acer... the whole shebang. I'm not looking for perfection; just which is better than the rest.
What does it mean when i turn on my laptop and the screen scrambles? I broke my hard drive disk like a week ago and had to get a new one. The guy installed windows 7 for me and everything has been working ok. Today when i turned on the laptop the gateway sign came up the the starting windows, at the end of the starting windows part though the screen scrambled, then it went to the welcome screen. Later today I turned the computer on, and it did it again. What does this mean?
How much should I sell my nonworking laptop for on craigslist? I'm selling my broken laptop on craigslist for parts...below is my ad. I'm saying "open to your best offer", but I was wondering if someone could give me a ballpark of what I should be looking for. I don't want to sell it for $20 if it's worth $75 or $100 (or more), but I also don't want to reject an offer because I have no idea if it's too low or not. What would you pay for this? Thanks! For sale is a nonworking Gateway MT6711 Laptop The motherboard is fried….the computer guy I took it to actually showed me where a tiny little section is charred..which explains why I smelled something burning right before it shut off on me. He said for what it would cost to replace it, I may as well get a new computer and sell this for parts, so that’s what I’m doing. I’m including the original box, it’s got all the specs on the side (pictured below). Hard drive has been removed. open to your best offer.
Building a Gaming Computer? I have a gateway laptop with average specs that can run world of warcraft at lows settings well(usually 15 fps). I was think o building my own gaming computer(have all the parts picked out) for 469 dollars total for everything. should I just upgrade my laptop to run well, or should i make my own desktop one. Ps. I dont really bring my laptop anywhere.
whats the most reliable free way to scan and eliminate viruses from my computer? my brother just got a new mac and as a result i got his old gateway, at first i was pretty stoked but then i realized how slow the laptop is. im pretty sure the computer has one or several viruses because my bro has admitted visiting some of the more racy parts of the internet. i just want to clean the computer and get it running up to its potential.
Any ideas on how to fix my laptop's keyboard? Standard issue cleaning procedure seems to have gone wrong; I'll express what I did, what the problem is, and all investigations after the discovery of the problem: [ What was done ] :: The keyboard was set in a baking pan of isoprophyl alcohol for about 15 mins. with occasional swishing and then dried overnight in order to clean the board out as per regular maintenance. [ The Problem ] :: The "Left" key continuously fires off preventing any other key entry from being registered by the board. [ Attempted Fixes ] 1. The general uninstall/reinstall drivers and devices. 2. Alleviation of pressure on the left key by removing all top layers and plugging the keyboard back into the ZIF connector in concern that it was a simple membrane issue. 3. A full cleaning of the entire keyboard, removing all keys, holders, and the button layers followed by another day's drying. The thing is spotless and there is nothing to press on the membrane. 4. Virus scan with Avast / Avg, nothing came up. I'm sure I couldn't have covered everything. I know it's the left key is being depressed because I used a computer program called KeyBoard Test, gotten from their official website, and while I'm concerned it's a short I don't know how to test for that. Suggestions more than welcome! Specs: Gateway FX 6860, laptop part number: 90.4V607.N01
how much will it cost to replace the broken lcd on my lpatop? my gateway solo 5350 fell off a table yesterday and the screen got crushed by the actuall computer part of the laptop. the screen itself is destroyed completely. how much will it cost to fix the screen?
What kind of Hard Drive would I be able to put in this Gateway? I just bought this laptop at Best Buy (Gateway Notebook with Mobile AMD Sempron™ Processor 3100+). It came with 512mb of RAM, which I have upgraded to 2gb. I was looking to increase the hard drive. Right now it is 80gb. How large of a hard drive would this computer be able to handle? 120gb? 160? Also, if I were to upgrade the hard drive, what kind of hard drive would I look for? Usually I buy parts for upgrade on eBay....what would I search for? If that is not a good place to buy it, can someone direct me somewhere else? Best answer gets the 10 points. Thanks.
My laptop's battery charger broke, is there any way to fix it? The part where I plug the silver thing into the slot of the laptop, that part is loose and now my laptop won't charge. Is there a way to tighten it or something so it can charge again? Any way possible? Please? This is only two months old, I don't wanna get in trouble. T__T And if not, then how much would a new charger cost? It's for a Gateway computer, if that matters. Thanks. If I hold onto the silver part of the charger into the slot, then it charges, somewhat. It's on and off. So I think it just needs to get tightened. So how can I tighten it? And I don't really know computer language so I don't know what to call the silver thing for the charger. =/ If you don't understand what part I mean, then here's a picture: http://acadaptermall.com/images/ASNPCG700.jpg The part that's circled. The silver thing on that. @Sean: I don't have warranty T__T But thanks for the other suggestions, I'll try them out.
Why does a message keep coming up on my computer about Gateway Registration? I've had this Gateway laptop since Christmas and this problem has just gotten out of hand. A message comes up just about every five minutes saying my product is already registered, and I want to end so badly. The worst part is YOU CANNOT EXIT. You have to WAIT for it to disappear. It appears in the lower-right corner of the screen with a gray bar at the top and the rest is white. And going back on what I said about the worst part, it isn't that you can't close it, it's that whenever you're playing a PC game or ANYTHING full screen, it minimizes it and it's PISSING ME OFF. Help is VERY appreciated. I want this to stop. I would say exactly what it says, but I have to wait for it to reappear.
Why won't my DVD play the special features for the computer when I insert it into my computer? I have a Gateway MX6959 laptop with Windows Vista Home Premium Edition on it and when I insert the special features disc into my DVD-ROM drive it doesn't detect the special computer features part and only plays the movie. The drive that I put it into is called a DVD-ROM/R/RW drive......could that be the problem?? That is the only place I can put the disc into though. Also my InterActual DVD Player doesn't work right either on my laptop.
What stores take in gateway laptops to get fixed? I have a gateway computer. I'm not sure what make it is, and year it was made.. Sorry, for the lack of information. My father bought it for me.. Anyways, there are so many problems with it, that I had to turn it into a desktop computer, and use a external keyboard and mouse. The part where the start-up button is, but on the other side has popped up. The keyboard barely works. Half of the keys are either not working, or the wrong letter is coming up when I type it in. For example: reay dn't e ths eybard at a everythng ty*e y4 can barey 0ae t the *4r*se f a a*t* s fr t t be *rtabe It's bad. All in all, I would like to know if you guys know what stores would repair my computer in general.. (In Canada) Or, if gateway has a place where I can have it sent in to get repaired? I've been looking everywhere, but can never seem to find anything.. Thanks. :) http://www.techturn.com/gateway-laptop1.jpg.
Computer Formatting Questions Part 2? Hey, i've already posted 1 question but now i have others. So i will repost my last question, in addition to more. Hey, i have a Gateway laptop. It has been loaded down with a bunch of crap i wanna get rid of, and its really slow. So i want to format my computer, but... I'm unsure on how it all works. I have a windows 7 disc somewhere, and i want to know if i format my computer if i can upload the windows 7 disc to my computer for a second time. It is a free disc that came with the computer cause it was a gateway and they had a special or something. Please help me.. Thanks!! Now when i went to proceed i found my windows 7 folder, 1 problem, there are 2 discs. I was told that i could put the disc into my computer and restart and do a clean install or something. I have tried both discs and none give me the option i was hoping for. I put the first dvd in and it gives me three steps, you are suppose to alternate both cd's for which i'm sure is a security measure of some sort, but the cd you use first and last gives me 3 options the first 2 options are nul they are there but greyed out and i can't do anything, the third option i can, it has a button that says start on it. And that option says something about installing windows 7 or something. Can someone tell me if i can still clean my computer and upload another windows 7 thing with what i have? i have clicked the third option and it starts going like i am loading windows 7 on my computer then it asks if i want to do the recommended option or the advanced option, the advanced option tells me that it won't save any of my files, thats what i want, i want a clean computer, will this have the desired effect i am looking for? If not can someone point me in the right direction please and thank you!!
What Is the Best Laptop I can Buy for Games, Music, Movies, and College? I would Like to get a nice computer for college around $3000, but less if possible. Ive asked many people but gotten different anwers. DELL? HP? SONY? TOSHIBA? GATEWAY? MAC? ALIENWARE? What parts should i get for the computer? ThankYou
Computer Locks up!!!!!! PLEASE HELP!!? Ok. I fix computers for a living, but I can't figure this one out for the life of me!!! Actually, I really doubt that anyone else will be able to figure it out either...but I'm all out of ideas. I gues you could consider that a challenge. So here is what happens.... It's a laptop (Gateway s-7410M). It is running windows xp pro service pack 2. The computer is part of a domain...however, recently, I had to create a local user ID and removed it from the domain because the user needed to work outside of the office. That is when the problem happens. It will just randomly lock up at any given time with absolutely no rhyme or reason! After bringing it back to the office it worked fine. Conclusion: If the laptop is plugged into the network at the office, you'll have no troubles at all....for days! However, if you unplugged the ethernet cable, it will lock up at some random time. Sometimes it will go for hours before it locks up and sometimes only 5 minutes. it's completely random. what's the deal? If anyone could help, it would be great! I'm pulling my hair out with this one!!! .......Thanks ahead of time! 1st of all, the server is running Server 2003 and yes, it is running active directory. I deleted the profile and deleted all profiles off the laptop. Except of course 'guest' and 'administrator' then I re-added the laptop to the domain. Problem still here. As long as I'm hooked up to the network via ethernet cable then it's fine. But as soon as I unplug the cable, it's bound to lock up at random.
Is this a good laptop? I'm about to purchase this laptop: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Gateway+-+Laptop+with+Intel%26%23174%3B+Core%26%23153%3B2+Duo+Processor+-+NightSky+Black/9548661.p?id=1218122908891&skuId=9548661 It seems good for the price, which is about as high as I want to go. Can someone point out good parts, bad parts, make recommendations for me? I don't know much about computers or the gateway brand in general.
Does Alienware Make the Best Gamer Laptop? I've been on Y!A in the computer section for over a year now, answering questions and helping people with problems. I may be in the market for a good laptop computer here soon. I have been doing my homework. I am comparing prices, features and warranties. I have never owned a laptop before, and frankly, the reason why is because I have heard so many BAD things about them - especially, when something goes wrong...the lousy warrenties, the cheap builds, the hype cover ups on second rate parts. So I stuck with desktops. But now, I am seriously thinking of getting a laptop and I would like to have your advice. I have heard that Alienware makes the best gamer laptops. But in searching the net, I have run across a few other name brands: Schenker Notebook CLEVO Notebooks Is Alienware really the best? Who owns one here? How about these other ones. Compare the XPS Dell's. Compare HP. How about Gateway, Asus, Acer...etc? Who has the best gamer, the best warranty, the best parts, and so forth? How about your experience with failed parts? How long do they last before they go kaput? I've asked similar questions now and have gotten very few answers. I need more INPUT from all of you, anyone who cares to remark (although, just saying a laptop is great or stinks, just doesn't cut it - WHY, is it great or WHY does it stink?) Come on, give me some help and advice. I NEED advice! Please answer this question and give me your reasons and whys? What should I be thinking of getting? I want to use it for business purposes and gaming both. That is why I am thinking of a gamer. It could go as high as $3000 - $4000 IF it is the right one for me. Sorry, but Yahoo Answers is not letting me post this on the Laptop Section..So I put it here.
Computer Help....Soldering?!? I've got a Gateway laptop that is a couple of years old...the DC jack inside the laptop is worn apparently (won't charge battery or start up w/ AC cord). I bought the replacement on Ebay for a measly $3...how much would it cost for soldering material to do the job myself? Or would it be cheaper ($100 estimate from two different terrorist PC nerds) to pay to get it repaired. I have computer experience...I was able to asses the problem...built/repaired computers before but soldering is new to me. Someone told me about Radio Shack...they solder parts for a fee/sell soldering parts?
My new laptop has had problems? Hi. I got my laptop in early March and I've had problems with it a month into buying it. It's a Gateway laptop and I want some advice on what to do. One problem is this: There would be times when I would be using it and it shut off. Just turn off and I try and turn it on again but no use. I'd have to wait several minutes before even trying. it could even be half an hour or more. I was playing a game that came with it and randomly it would shut off after I played a while. But then it was happening when I wasn't doing anything, looked up help and thought it might be the fan and it overheating. It hasn't happened but one time since. Another problem (I think it's weird) when I turn it on it makes a popping noise and today it was loudest. before it wouldn't be so loud just a small pop noise. Today it was pretty loud and worried me I have payed for the warranty and have my files backed up. I purchased it at BestBuy, could I replace it? By the way. I have also broken my space bar, and one of the plastic parts does not fit anymore. Could I still replace it or do I just have them look at my computer and try to fix what's wrong with it? Thanks again.
Why does the volume on my laptop sound weird? Okay, I think I've been having this problem for like a couple of days. Maybe since yesterday or Friday; not sure. When I'm listening to music on Myspace or Youtube, the music sounds like if it's slowing down or it's in slow motion. Then it sounds all messed up. This happens sometimes. For example, some hours ago it was okay. Now it's starting again. Also, when I'm listening to music, in some parts of a song it plays perfect, and then later it gets messed up. I know it has to do with the computer not the music or the videos I listen to. If it helps, I have a Gateway laptop. Any help though?
Computer Help! I have a Gateway and the plug broke in back!? Part of my plug in for my laptop broke off inside. The center thing is stuck in there. Should I pull it out or just leave it in there and try to keep plugging it in and just moving it around till it connects? Can I just buy a new cord if I pull that piece out? Do you know about how much it will cost?
Laptop can't find wireless networks anymore? I bought my Gateway laptop new from BestBuy about a year and a half ago. Up until about 6 months ago, my computer would automatically connect to any wireless networks that were available. Now, it won't show any wireless networks available even when I know there is at least one, such as at a public place with Wifi. I've tried to repair the wireless connection and it displays this message: "Windows could not finish repairing the problem because the followinng action cannot be completed: Connecting to the wireless network." The part before this was a copy of another question on here but it was never answered and now one of the people at work has the same problem any ideas? I've also uninstalled the device and let windows pick it up on startup and I still get the same error. I didn't see and external switch at all. I did look originally because I thought that might be the issue.
we are looking to upgrade our two laptops one is an e-machine from gateway the other is a toshiba? Our question is how do we go about doing this we would rather know how to do it our self and what is the difference between mb, gb, and kb is. And what the memory capability of each is. Right now for the most part the computers are used to download games that have lots of accessories, and tend to be really slow we were told that by upgrading the memory this problem would improve. Sim2 we already have two expansion packs and we want four more to add to our enjoyment of the game. And still be able to use the laptops for reasearch papers for school. We also have lots of music on the computers for the kids to listen to on long trips. I would like to know how much memory you all would recommend to do this with out having the computer go too slow.
Is there a way to recover my computer in working order withOUT deleting everything on it? Recover XP? HELP? I have the Recover XP disk and it's helped me before wit another computer, and I have used it on this gateway laptop as well. I don't remember what I've done before but I booted it up before and got to a part where it asked if I wanted to continue, and if I did it would mean that all of my computer's data would be lost. I answered no but when I went back to my desktop all of the problems were fine. BUT NOW WHEN I DO THAT, IT'S NOT WORKING! MY DESKTOP JUST KEEPS DISAPPEARING AND RE-APPEARING! AND THAT'S THE PROBLEM I'M TRYING TO FIX! Did I do something that I don't remember? Is there a way to recover my computer with this disk without erasing everything? And no, my system restore doesn't have any points to go back to so don't even bother typing that.
Is there any computer expert who has answers for me? 1. Gateway MX6027 laptop-- I could not find wireless internet function when I believe this model comes with it. How do I add it to my laptop? 2. Acer Travelmate 4010 laptop-- I broke the power jack in the back corner of the unit. How do I replace it if I want to fix it myself? Where do I get the part(s)?
Which laptop to buy? See Details? Next year, I'll be starting college. So I want a laptop that I get soon, and have it last until when I am in college. I'd like to be able to have some games on it, like The Sims 2 and all of its expansions. So I'll need a computer with a lot of hard drive space, RAM, and a good graphics card. I'd absolutely LOVE having a computer with XP, my old one died on me. Which is why I do NOT want a gateway computer. If you guys could help me find the kind of laptop I am looking for, or some places I can get good deals on them, please tell me! Seeing as I work part-time, 1 shift a week, I'd really like the price to be less than $700.

My computer hangs during Windows XP setup... help!? I have a Gateway laptop (bought last year) that I managed to procure an unsavory amount of spyware on, so yesterday, I decided to format the drive and just try again. At first, I chose the option "Format with backup" to re-install the computer's factory settings, but when it got to the part that it installs drivers for things like your keyboard and mouse, the progress bar went about halfway up and then froze. I also lost the ability to move the mouse pointer. Thinking that what I had done was not enough, I decided to try the format option, "Format (Destructive)" to wipe out *everything*. The exact same thing happened when I tried to Format (Destructive). Does anyone have any idea why this is happening, or what I can do to fix it? My harddrive has been wiped, and I cannot access Windows or the DOS prompt. Also, although the computer instructed me on how to make Recovery Disks when I first bought it, but at no point during the Recovery process am I promped to insert the disks

Mine looked brand spanking new. Very fast, the battery does last only 1 1/2 hours, but I got an extra battery for $65 on eBay used and it works nicely. Came with Vista, but I put WinXP on mine and found all the drivers on the internet. The construction is very sturdy hard plastic, none of the cheap flimsy stuff. Overall the value is great, it feels and looks more durable than laptops of the past, and is fast. Great buy. REVIEW BY: Rick M. Reviewed Aug 07, 2008 I bought this laptop a week ago.and received it Wednesday. Excellent condition, I would have thougt I just picked it up at a store. My only problem was when I allowed Norton Internet Security to load (60 day trial)and then brought up the internet, half way through loading, the system locked up. The only way to free it up was to manualy power down. I unistalled Norton and installed AVG Free. NO more problems !!!! This is a very fast easy to use laptop with all the bells and whistles. Also very fast shipping,3 days. VERY HAPPY REVIEW BY: fraqtured Reviewed Aug 06, 2008 i bought the T1625 which is essentially the same specs as this, and wanted to input the impression i drew from the t1625. first off, great price, amazing features, and with a laptop cooler running $40 dollars for a middle of the road model, this laptop will run cool [the only complaint i have found on these was the heat] and you will have picked yourself up a top with features running in some cases nearly twice as much in price of a non refurbs, which will only be the refurbs of tomorrow. run all the updates through gateway, and do a clean reinstall and pertition reformat when you unpack, it, it will take a little bit of time, but will point you in a much faster direction. this laptop is highly recomended in my opinion. REVIEW BY: Reviewed Aug 05, 2008 This is my first purchase from TD.com, and I'm very satisfied with it. The Turion 64 dualcore processor and the 2GB of RAM make short work of everything I throw at it; I have Pidgin (my IM client), Firefox (with 3 tabs open, including YouTube), LimeWire, and uTorrent all running at the same time and there is absolutely no slowdown whatsoever. My only gripes are that it gets a little bit hot when charging, and the battery only lasts for an hour and a half; I can deal with heat and the battery can be easily upgraded. The only thing you have to worry about with refurbished products is the look, not performance; Mine came with a small scratch in the top of the case, but performs like a champ. If you don't mind some minor cosmetic flaws, I'd definitely recommend this computer to anyone on a budget, especially at this price! Your computer uses memory to run your Operating System, applications, peripherals, and to generate and display graphics on your computer monitor. Video memory is a form of RAM, and is either built into your motherboard; or on a graphics card (video card). Depending on the motherboard's configuration, and that of the video card (if separate or built-in to the motherboard), your computer may have to draw on its own RAM memory to meet its video memory needs. This creates shared memory, where your computer’s RAM will be shared between its own Processor (CPU) and its graphics chip. The result is that some systems will have shared memory, some will not. If you have 2GB (for example) of system memory installed, you may notice that your system reports significantly less memory. This is because your system is using shared memory for your video. What can you do about this? You can actually configure this shared memory through your computer’s BIOS settings. However, this is a setting best left alone, since it is typically optimized for display performance, and making changes may impact display resolutions, and other video capabilities. The simplest solution is usually to either: increase your system memory; or to upgrade the video hardware. By upgrading to a new video card with built-in video memory, then turning off shared memory, you will free your system to use it's maximum potential memory, and provide your system with much more robust video features. Click Here for our Memory Options » Click Here for the latest Video Cards » How Much Memory Do You Really Have? When you look at the specifications for a computer, it will display the installed memory, and typically the maximum memory that can be installed. However, while these are real values, they represent a potential useable memory. The actual useable memory may be different from these values. The reason is simply that a computer may configured to use shared memory, which reduces the amount of RAM that is available to the CPU by using some of it for other purposes, such as for video memory. In some cases, you can control the maximum useable memory through system settings, and by upgrading to a video card that has internal onboard video memory. But always remember, that the amount of memory that your system reports, is not always the amount of actual installed memory. If you find that you need more memory, we suggest expanding your system memory, since this is the most effective performance increase, and the one that is easiest to perform . Computer Problems--PLEASE HELP ME!!!? Okay so I have windows vista on a gateway laptop, I'm using Internet Explorer 7.0, and my default search engine is Google, and my favorite word is Banana(wait for it, its necessary) So I often search the word banana in the address bar to see what google has to say about bananas, however today when I tried it I was redirected to a different website, its not an as website or anything, in fact I've been there before...It's an episode of the Taiwanese Soap Opera I'm currently watching the exact url is: http://www.mysoju.com/fullscreen/knock-knock-loving-you/episode-5/part-2/ also when Internet Explorer gives me suggestions to websites I've Recently Visited it says; Registration Path http://www.eltpath.com (a whole bunch of stuff hereeeeeeeeeeeeeee) but it also says: email=bananasucker331@hotmail.com then it says something about Miami Fl and 33177 earlier today my cousin stiven clicked on an ad, it was to get a free macbook, I called him stupid since it obviously wouldnt work.. but he tried anyway, I'm not sure what email he used but I know that isnt his...I dont know anyone by that email however we live in miami fl and his zip code is 33177.. so maybe that has something to do with it.. I have tried so far to delete all programs potentially harmful to my computer, I closed all process trees in the Windows task manager under iexplorer and dvm just in case and I scanned my computer with windows defender as well as made sure my firewall was up... but I'm still being redirected everything seems normal and I also deleted all cookies, information I've put in forms, browsing history... everything....! but I'M STILL BEING REDIRECTED... I can go to any other website and when I type in the website address I get redirected toooo, it goes to the normal website...its ONLY BANANAS. I can still search bananas by going to google.com and searching it... but I dont want this to be potentially harmful to my computer... I'm pretty sure its the ad thing... also I tried going to eltpath.com (the first part of the url next to redirection path in my suggestions) but it just stays blank... previously my computer was, as told by my cousin almost hacked... what happened was there was a box saying that another computer had the same IP adress as mine and all the windows of internet explorer I had open said ([{This site has been closed to try and protect your computer etc..}]), I again closed all process trees under iexplorer and dvm, and closed all windows...Just thought I might add that.. also I get my internet connection from a Linksys connected to my desktop computer, its a really old computer and runs EXTREMELY slow but still works if you've got patience and its okay with viruses and whatnot its just I've used up to much memory on it also my brother's laptop is as well connected to the internet by the linksys...WHAT CAN I POSSIBLY DO TO STOP IT FROM REDIRECTING AND SAVE MY LAPTOP FROM HARM>.< pleaseee I'll love you forever... I'm pretty okay at dealing with computers but not that great, though I'm pretty sure I can follow directions.. thank you so much>.<

Who makes a high end XP compatible laptop? I know that Dell and Alienware do but Sony, Gateway, HP, Toshiba apparently all only come with Vista. Are these computers configured to handle XP or will wierd things happen if I change the OS. Thas what the guy at Best Buy said. Visual Basic doesn't seem to like the new Vista a whole lot and I don't either yet. Most of these new computers are more mass produced it seems and I get the feeling I might not be able to do a simple task like take it apart, wipe the dust out and put it all back together. I'd rather have a laptop thas more like a desktop, with interchangable parts, instead of a mini calculator that you throw away when the battery goes dead.
How much is this computer worth? The backlight in my laptop went out and I'm trying to sell it. I have a Gateway M-6752, Pentium 4- CORE2 DUO 1.6 GHz CPU, 250 GB SATA HARD DRIVE, 3 GB RAM, DVD-RW DRIVE, 15.4" Screen. Are the parts in it alone worth at least $50?

Which parts for building a PC? I was wondering what kind of computer I should get. I think I will build it myself, but I'm not sure about parts. I'd use it for gaming, but want it it to be relatively cheap too, because I want to get some of the cash to buy it by selling my laptop (2006 gateway). My general expectations for the machines are being able to play Battlefield 2, Counterstrike Source, Need For Speed: Most Wanted, and Oblivion on high, and my maximum goal is to be able to play Crysis on Medium/Low. All at 30fps or above. I was looking at the 8600gt for a grahics card, and I guess any monitor that's cheap and runs at at 1024x768. I am not sure about the CPU, I was thinking Core 2 Duo but really ANYTHING that will not totally bottleneck my GPU and can run those games will be fine. I don't have ANY parts right now, so recomendations on good HDD's, motherboards and even cheap OS's (Vista or XP), would be great. Any help would be great, the greatest price range for me would be $500-$600 if possible + 2GB RAM.
Can I replace my laptop LCD screen with another brand's screen if it's the same size? Can I replace my laptop LCD screen with another brand's screen if it's the same size? I have a Gateway M520 15.4 inch laptop and I need to replace the LCD screen. I was thinking of buying some old computers used juts for parts and take the LCD screen from them to replace mines since it would be a lot cheaper than to buy a whole new laptop LCD screen. So for example, if I find a 15.4 inch HP laptop's LCD screen, can I use that for my Gateway? Or would the screw placement or whatnot not be compatable or not fit? Thanks!
Upgrading laptop for gaming? Here is the computer: http://support.gateway.com/s/Mobile/Gateway/6000Series/5386sp3.shtml Is this computer upgradeable? If so: What parts should I upgrade to play modern games? Can you link me to a part that is compatible with my computer? Thanks, Ben

Where to sell used computers? My husband and I have computers we don't use anymore, and we want to get rid of them. Instead of just throwing them out, we would like to recycle them or sell them for parts. They both do not work, but they are not old. One is a 2003 Toshiba and the other is a 2006 Gateway laptops. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!
can i upgrade the GHz on my gateway pc? ? the GHz is currently 1.8. the minimum requirements for a game i want to play is 2.2. everything else excels by very far except the GHz, and my computer shuts down now and then after playing a demo of the game because it starts to overheat. whats the most i can upgrade this Ghz to if i even can? i know you cant upgrade parts on a laptop but is this different since its a desktop replacement? it just seems really low if i cant play this game just because one of the minimum requirements is off by a little and i cant upgrade it. thanks. here is the computer i bought it last week at best buy. http://www.gateway.com/gaming/pseries.php on their site gateway can overclock the cpu for you but its only for a certain model of the fx series. not sure if its for the one i have. p4 requires 2 GHz and intel core 2 duo requires 2.2 both for vista. which i have.
Gateway Laptop T-1625 won't turn on and won't charge. Help? Ok so I have a Gateway Laptop Model T-1625. It worked great for about 3 months, and then one night while I was falling asleep, the computer was closed, and I accidentally dropped my phone on top of it. (Once again, the computer was CLOSED). But anyway, since then it hasn't been able to charge, and it is now dead. I try to turn it on but a red battery light just flashes. I plug in the AC adapter but it still doesn't charge. I tested the AC adapter with a voltmeter and it's just fine. The pins on the head of the adapter and on the power part of the laptop are fine and straight. Help? Oh, the warranty is expired too. =) (sarcastic smiley face) ^
Does anybody know how to get a replacement spindle for a dvd-rom drive? The spindle (or whatever the heck it's called...the small round part that the disc clicks onto in the center of the drive) on my computer's dvd-rom drive is conspicuously missing since the other person living with me has been using it pretty heavily. My machine is a Gateway 7510GX laptop if that helps. My biggest problem is now I have no way of installing CD or DVD based software on my machine and I need to be able to reinstall Windows XP in an emergency. HELP! Does anybody know how to get a replacement for the missing part or do I have to replace the entire drive?
Is a battery in cd-drive appealing to you? I have a Gateway Solo computer that has an addon that allows you to get an extra part (a battery) to put in the cd/dvd slot on my laptop. It's supposed to make the laptop last 8 hours (including the regular battery). Do you guys think I should get it? It's spendy, and heavy.

Gateway MT6452, battery dieing is killing my hard drive? help!? hey, i have recent problems with my gateway MT6452, which i bought a little more than a year ago first off is that it has trouble reading my battery i think, or at least charging it, it just decides to run off wall jack power with a low battery. i can get it to start charging if i take out the battery and put it back in, but after sometime, it goes back to just running off of the wall jack with a low charged battery not being charged. because of this i always have to have it plugged in, and can barely use it portable. im not sure what the problem is. secondly, i have to really wiggle the plug in the back of the laptop to even get it to read. this is probably a hardware issue, and im not sure i can get it fixed, but i can deal with it thirdly, and this part is really bad and not helped at all by the first two. for some strange reason, recently if i let my computer's batter die, so that it shuts off, it wont start up anymore when i turn it on. the first gateway screen starts up and the little bar at the bottom loads up to about 80 percent. i think this is the part where its supposed to read my hard drive. i really dont know why having the battery running out would cause the hard drive to not be read, but this is what it seems like is happening. it just wont start up anymore. this has happend to me several times, and i even bought a new hard drive for it thinking that was the problem. but it has happened to both hard drive several times. i've got it working again a couple times, but both times im not sure how i got it working again. one after a couple days it just started working again, and a second time i hooked up my hard drive to another computer externally and when i put it back in my laptop, i got a "this computer was not turned off properly" screen on my laptop and it let me once again start up. but recently my batter died while i was using the laptop and now it just wont start up. does anyone know what could possibly be the problem? im not sure what to do
i got two questions for you.? first question. i have a gateway solo 5350 laptop with about 248 mb ram. recently after inalling a display adapter from the gateway website on my computer the laptops display stops responding anywhere from a few seconds to 1 or 2 minutes. it is just the laptop's display. when i hook it up to an external crt monitor it works fine. i did a system restore to about a week ago but that didn't help. what is wrong with my monitor. i can't afford a new laptop because i am only a teenager. please answer. second question. part a. i can't install linux ubuntu 8.10 on my laptop. i try but it doesn't install and my monitor screetches. yes, it screetches. i can't use my laptop monitor because of the problem above me. i tried in safe mode but my monitor still screeched. i was able to run the live cd though. kinda slow but it still worked. part b. where can i get full instructions and all the downloads needed to run minivmac on my computer with windows xp. not os x, just mac os 1 or os 2. just something to play with. i know the mac website releases mac os 7 for free but i don't have a mac. the end. please answer as many as possible. ok, in the first question i forgot to mention that the display gets weird when i delays. not exactly pixely but not good. kinda like static. yep, i reinstalled the display adapter but it is the one that came with the computer. i got it from a gateway website. my monitor does not screech when i am running windows xp. also...how do i manually install programs in ubuntu 8.10 without internet? i can't figure it out. also, i wan't this to be the first question you answer. how do i get dial up on ubuntu 8.10. i need it to intall software. i have a modem build into the desktop computer. please tell me how. and i can't download anything because i don't have internet.

Gateway MT6916 question/issue?
Why won't my laptop remain on? I have a Gateway notebook and I’ve had some problems with it before. I sent it in because the screen would go black unexpectedly, then it was under warranty and they fixed it. When they sent it back to me the laptop worked fine, but the battery didn't work and all they did was slap a sticker on it saying "bad part" (thanks a lot guys!). At that time it wasn't a big deal, I just removed the battery and used AC power but not too long after that when I was in the middle of something my computer would shut off unexpectedly thus losing what I was working on. I did find out that if I sat a certain way or moved the cord around I would be able to use it, until I shifted and/or the cord moved and it would turn off & wouldn’t turn on unless I wiggled the cord just right. Now I'm not sure but is there something wrong with the power connection in the back of the laptop? Or is there something wrong with the cord? I'm assuming the earlier although hoping for the latter. Thanks in advance! I do remember that not too long before having a problem with the screen I had taken my laptop to class and then it was running on battery power (since I was in a lecture hall) and the battery would run out of power and shut my computer off. Looking back it seems that the battery wouldn't charge properly. Because there were a few instances when i was using battery power it would run out and shut off. I then would bring my AC cord and sit WAY in the back of the auditorium so I could use my laptop on AC power instead. I don't know if that makes any sense or helps, but thought you should know. Once again your help is GREATLY appreciated since I'd like to correct this whereas I NEED a laptop and don't have the money for one at the moment. Thanks so much!! :) Oh and another thing I noticed, after I posted this I was playing around with the cord. When I plug the cord into an outlet I notice that the green light lights up, like it’s supposed to. So I guess everything in the cord is fine up until that point. It’s the end that connects into the computer that’s concerning me.
Can you install wireless card in a laptop on your own? I've got a Gateway W340UI with a faulty wireless card. I have been using a USB wireless adapter, which works quite well, but I have been thinking about opening the laptop and replacing the card myself. If I bought the right parts, would it be possible for someone with a somewhat high understanding of computers to replace it without using tech support? The company that sold me the computer has been giving me the run around, so I want to try to fix it on my own.
Laptop turns off and won't turn back on- why? Ok- so I have a gateway laptop- its almost 4 years old- I had it cleaned about a year and a half ago (thats irrelevant- but it just means there isn't 4 years worth of dirt in it). Tonight I was listening to music when all of a sudden it turned off (but it didn't seem like it turned off the same way as when it overheats)- it also made a clicking noise for a couple of seconds. I tried pressing the power button- but it didn't turn back on. After reading around- I tried the following method: take out the battery, unplug the AC adapter, and hold the power button for 30 seconds. Then I plugged the AC back in- the computer got to the Gateway thing after this, and then turned off. So I decided I'd stick the battery in- and it booted up fine just as normal. During this whole time (minus the part where there was absolutely no power hooked up) the battery charging light (which is yellow on my laptop) remained on- even when the battery wasn't in the laptop. I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas as to why this occurred, whether its likely to occur again, and how I could prevent it from happening again? Was the clicking sound something serious? Would cleaning it again prevent things? Thanks for the response! I don't know about hibernation mode- whenever its done that its always been really easy to get it out of it- when I pressed the start button this time nothing happened- the start button didn't even blink. Yeah- I wasn't using the battery when it went down- the laptop had the battery in it though. I have read about that happening to other laptops. The light that was on was at the front of my computer- I have 2 lights- one that is blue- it indicates that the computer is on... the other is the orange light... it indicates that the battery was charging. Even when I had the battery out (and still the AC adapter plugged in) the orange light was on- which was odd- after it shut down (until I tried my method which got it to come back up again) the blue light didn't come back on. Thanks again for your help :) Any other ideas?
my computer wont charge? i have a laptop from gateway and it plugs wont charge. the adaptor head (the part that plugs into the computer) broke wore down and broke off and i got a universal charger and that worked for a while but then you would have to play with the head of the adaptor until it started charging and now it wont charge at all. i have two universal chargers in my house and both wont work so its the computer. please help!
Question about my laptop with a broken screen...? I have a gateway MX6131 that I bought for $1100 last Oct (2006). Well in the middle of Dec my boyfriend's sister and her boyfriend were fighting and she was on my laptop and hit him with the screen part and it shattered the screen on the laptop. So it wasn't even used for more than 6 weeks before the screen was shattered. Well it's been sitting in my bedroom now since it was broken and I've looked into it and it would only cost about $150 to get a replacement lcd screen and about $50 dollars to have the screen put in at a computer repair store...might be cheaper down south, I live in Alaska and this is the best price I've been given up here. Well I really don't have the extra $200...baby on the way and what not and $200 goes a long way - diapers and such. My question is what would a fair price be to sell the laptop for?? Being as it would only cost somone $200 to fix this thousand dollar hardly used laptop. I don't want to get ripped off but I do need to sell it. Thanks <3! Yes we've been trying to get them to pay for the laptop for almost a year now. It's been like pulling teeth. They are a couple of losers. When they see us they act like they did nothing wrong, breaking my computer actually ended up costing me thousands of dollars...I was doing schooling over the net and had everything on that computer and wasn't able to complete things by their due date and paid 3 grand for schooling I couldn't complete because everything was on my computer. Sucks but such is life I suppose.
