Can non-Dell computer parts be used in a Dell? Some one told me that Non-Dell computer parts cannot be used in a Dell computer. Say, if you wanted more ram or a different hard drive, could you exchange those parts for non Dell ones? It seems very wrong, so I would greatly appreciate an answer! Thanks!

Dell computer old missing parts HELP!!!!!? For x-mas a year ago my uncle gave me an old laptop. Probably a 2003-4 model. The model number is PP01S. Ref number 99072. IC Class B ICES-003. Made in taiwan. Basicly, the laptop itself works fine, but I'm missing the cable/cord that runs from the laptop to the electric outlets in the wall. Without, the laptop does not work, for it holds a very little (about 2 min.) battery charge. Is there any way I can order/find another cable for it? Please give me EXACTLY how to. Can using a 2 y/o battery in my Dell laptop damage it? Sooo, Dell Support recently informed me that laptop batteries are only meant to be used for one year. After one year, they will begin to damage your motherboard and other computer parts. Dell said it was very bad and would slow down my computer because of this! Does dell use proprietary parts on any desktops anymore? Specifically the Studio Desktop? Dell Computer - Little liquid on SouthBridge (ICH)? Hi, I was fixing my Dell PC a month ago (Dimension 4600). It lasted me sooo long! I was changing the graphics card for the third time when my little brother spilled a thick, yet 95% solid substance made of plasticine and water, while it was on. It spilled on the SB, and after that, I let it dry for two days, then put it on. Oh wait! It only comes on when I plug it in, no diagnostic lights and the power button is orange. No POST. If I press the power button it comes off. If I press it again nothing happens unless I re-plug it. Maybe my board spoiled. OK, I have an extra one. BUT DELL parts are proprietary! So to change the board, I have to change PSU, Case, Fan, and who knows, maybe the CPU too. Don't forget heatsink! So the sad Dell is sitting there doing nothing while I took out the drives. Luckily for me I had a spare malfunctioning computer that could do the job. Buying new parts is out of the question (my country has lots of Dell stores - but they are expensive. Why can't you be like HP? The computer was purchased in 2004, so no warranty again. I can safely say one thing: Whether or not something is fixed, I'll never buy a Dell again, simply because of your silly proprietary parts. So here is the question: Can someone help me? My computer crashed in the middle of a Dell factory image restore, does anyone know how to fix this? There has been a problem with my computer for a while where it starts making a weed noise inside of the computer then crashes to where I have to turn it off. It started to get worse so I tried to do a dell factory image restore but my computer crashed and now it says the system is damaged and cannot start. Is there any way to fix this? Why don't computer manufacturers make the parts themselves? Just wondered. Every component in a computer is manufactured by a different company - and very rarely is one of these companies the same one whose name appears on the front of the finished computer. Basically, companies such as Dell, Packard Bell, Toshiba etc. don't actually manufacture computers - they simply assemble computers using parts bought in from other companies. Wouldn't it be cheaper to do everything under one roof? Make the components and then assemble them.

Rebuilding computer, dell computers question? Okay so I am planning to rebuild my computer because I need a new video card. Well I have found out that most of the computer part I have will work fine. So my biggest problem is that I don't what the connection is for the mobo i have is. So I was trying to contact dell about what the video card connection is but they were be jerks and so yeah. So the computer I have is a dell Inspiron 530. I got the early (I think) 2008 version. So anyway if you guys can tell me what the connection is or how I can find it. And I don't want any comments on how most are PCI expresses 2.0 (I KNOW) but I want to make sure it is the right connection. Since my computers been gone over a week now and they are trying to tell me it won't even be shipped (for $35 more) for the next three to four days, I just would rather take even a three hour drive to pick this part up already. Does anyone know how to re-set a Dell Computer back to installation settings? I have done it twice before, but I have forgotten what to do after I get into the first part of it. I can not afford to pay for dell Help, and Support. That is over $200.00 a year or $99.00 for a one time fix. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much for your time, and help. I forgot to mention that I do not have the cd that was supposed to come with my computer. I know about the f11, but what to do after that; I can't remember. Where does the red cable go in a Dell XPS computer? When opening a friends Dell XPS computer I found a red cable labeled "9Y680" hanging near the mainboard. It has 9 pin holes yet I can not find the location on the mainboard as to where it should be plugged in. When searching this part number (the 9Y680) all I got for additional information was: Round Red Cable that Runs from System Board to Front I/O Panel for IEEE 1394 Can anyone explain or show where this 'red cable' is suppose to plug into the system board?

How do you install speakers to a computer? My dad just bought some speakers from a friend, nothing came with them except a cord connecting them and a cord to connect it to the computer. The speakers are "Altec Lansing" my Monitor is called "View Sonic", and the computer part is a Dell. The Monitor used to be a Dell but it got shaky and we replaced it. There is a speaker on the computer but its really crappy. Does anyone know where the cord should be plugged into? It doesn't seem as if there if a place for the jack on the back of the computer, does that mean theres somewhere else to put it?

Trying to install Sims 2 onto my dell computer? I'm trying to download the sims 2 onto my dell, and I insert disk number 1, then the first part of the installation (Choosing English or Spanish) pops up. After that, it says to insert disk 1. I clicked OK stating that disk 1 was in, and it kept popping up. I tried using disks 2, 3, and 4, but for disk 2 the start for the game popped up and for disks 3 + 4, it said to insert the correct disk.

Here is the information I have, I have another computer witch is a Dell, it's not really that old it was made in 2003, But the warranty is up for it though of course, Dell Optiplex 620 series, it had Windows XP Professional in it already so it's built for windows xp, The thing is I bought this computer from a guy at the flea market, witch fixes, and re builds computer and adds parts to them etc. and it was running slow so i re formatted the C: drive, and I think the person that had it before him did not clear out stuff, but I did not get a disc with it when he gave me the computer tower, So Basically I only had an windows 98se disc laying around so it needed an a operating system on the computer for now, so basically I just reinstalled that on the tower for now, but i have so much freaking free space from then before, so the computer is compatible with xp because that was the system that is built for it, and also it has the tags on the computer saying windows xp professional, but since I don't have the disc. I bought it off of a dell websites the windows xp upgrade for people that have windows 95 or 98se, or older or people without windows, and that was a $121.95 i know expensive, XD It says it needs Intel Pentium - 233 MHz I checked the Dell MHz and it has 533 MHZ so will the windows Home Edition upgrade run smoothly and faster then what the professional one did, and with all the junk off of it? I can't keep windows 98se on there because the internet I have DSL don't run or support that on the other computer.

Need a RAM chip for my Dell Computer? I have a Dell Dimension 8200. About 3 years old. I am not ready to buy a new computer yet. It works fine, however I would like to have another memory chip.
