Fixing Laptop Computer Power Supply- what is the most parts could cost to fix? I have bought my laptops for years from a local laptop retailer whom advertises free repair (excluding parts) for entire life of computer. Their laptops are definitely marked up quite a bit (even for identical models on the net: Asus, Microstar) but I have really enjoyed the piece of mind and have been a loyal customer until just recent. I now think there is a possibility the retailer is being dishonest with me and essentially have a hunch they are building a lot of their so called "no labor charge" into parts prices. Upon casual questioning of the assumed inflated amount (which I will not disclose in order to get an unbiased second opinion) I was told "the power supply part is not only quite expensive but that we also have to use real silver to solder to the mother board (Asus)". I was warily satisfied with the answer and let them fix it- but now I am left thinking should I continue to patron what seems to be a classic example of dishonest advertising and overall business model

What is the average voltage for a computer power supply? I understand that this is very dependent on the capabilities of the machine and the hardware put into the computer, for example the addition of one or more video cards or the use of overclocking. Computer power supply problem? For the past couple of days, my computer has been randomly turning off on me. It turns off and the power button just blinks. I'm not able to turn it on, no fans run, nothing happens. If I unplug the power cord from the computer for about 20 seconds or so and plug it back in, I'm then able to to turn the computer back on. However, it will eventually turn off on me. It could be in a matter of minutes, or hours. After doing some research, it sounds like its probably a power supply problem. But, exactly what does that mean? Does that mean the actual unit on the computer, the cord, or where its plugged into? And is it more than likely a power supply problem, or could it be something else? If it is a power supply problem, is it an easy/cheap fix? I'm not very knowledgeable when it comes to computer parts and how to swap them and such, but is it something I could do myself, or should I just bring it to a professional? Also, when looking to get a new power supply unit, what do I need to know about which one to get? I'm not sure what kind of supply to get if I have to. Do I just have to get one thats compatible with the processor? Here is a link to the "specs" if that means anything? http://www.emachines.com/products/produc… Thanks in advance. sorry, this is the full link... http://www.emachines.com/products/products.html?prod=T6216

Will an older power supply work in a newer computer? I have an old Windows 98 computer, which has all good parts in it. I have a newer computer which the power supply has stopped working. Could I use the older power supply in it? The newer power supply which no longer works has the 4 pin connector, the older power supply does not.
Should I buy computer parts long time before I build a desktop? When I see some computer parts (such as power supply, chassis, etc) on sale, I really want to buy them, but I am not going to build my desktop until next year when I move to another city. I don't have a desktop with me now (I used to have a few but I only have a laptop now) so I can't test the parts if buy it. So is that worth it to buy parts on sale if I can't test it or install it right away?
How many watts of my 450 watt power supply do the internal parts use? Can anyone tell me how much power the internal parts of a computer use. For example, a case fan might use 5 watts, a hard drive may use 20, etc. I read an article before that listed EVERY single internal computer part and approximately how much power they all used in watts. and I cant seem to find anything on the net that might be something like that.
Is my computer power supply enough? I have a 350W PSU. My desktop has 2 gigs ram, a dual-core 3.1 ghz, and on board graphics. I want to add a 1 gig PCIE video card and ram for gaming. So will I need a bigger PSU to power the new parts? And if I do, how big should it be?
New power supply killed WHAT? With computer's original parts, power supply somehow sparked and died (presumed it was a motherboard problem). Got new power supply, computer broke again (power supply not ruined). Did the new power supply fry the motherboard or graphics card? I just want to know, of the two, which is more likely?
Selecting a computer Power Supply? I'm selecting parts for my custom gaming computer, and I've read a few guides but nothing made any mention about power supply specifics beyond the wattage. Are there any plugs or ports I need to match up?

Hi, how do i know if a power supply will fit in my computer? I've been trying to upgrade my computer's power supply, so i can upgrade my computer's video card. i bought a power supply and it did fit inside of the computer, but the part of the power supply that is supposed to come out on the outside, so i can put the power cord inside was on the wrong side so i couldn't fit it in. (If you click the link,on the picture showing the back of the computer, it is the part on the upper left where you plug in the power cord.) (My computer): http://www.digitalcad.com/2003/06_jun/reviews/dell360virata.htm My question is how will i know if that part of the power supply will fit into my computer?
Did my power supply damaged any other parts of my computer? Guys i just bought a new custom computer 2 weeks ago. Today i went somewhere and left my desktop computer turned on. When i came back home my computer was totally shutdown. I pressed the power button but nothing happened not even a single led on my chases was turning on. My power supply is OKIA 500 Watt. I opened my power supply and checked wih meter if there is any 12 volts in its pins, certainly the result was negative. So i think power supply is blown up. Q1. Guys i am worried if it damaged my motherboard or other hardware before it blew up. Q2. If i replace the power supply is there any way to check all my hardware are working fine or not?
Computer Power Supply Wattage consumption, how it works? Planning a custom PC. Power Supply Question Let's say for example : total wattage all parts used together = 429W Let's say I buy a 1200W power supply for it. 1. Will the power supply "suck" in 1200W of power from wall? 2. Will it just suck in the necessary amount to power it?
help, computer power supply broken? hello people, i'm kind of new to the yahoo answers. anyways, one morning i open my desktop and it starts up but then in about 2 seconds it just closes on me. I think there might be something wrong with the power supply. I wait a few minutes and open it again but same thing happens. I have a box of disassembled parts from my old computers. I have another power supply in there but I dont really know how and if I should replace it. Is the power supply the problem or is it something else? Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks the sticker on the power supply says output: 300W max
Is it safe to reuse a wireless PCI card from a computer who's power supply died? Several years ago, I had a computer (ATX form factor, Windows xp) that had a power supply failure. Rather than replace the power supply to see if the other components still worked, I let it sit in a closet. Now I have another desktop computer that I would like to upgrade with cannibalized parts from the old computer. Is this safe? Does a power supply failure fry all of the other components within a computer? I would like to use a PCI wireless linksys card from the dead comp.
what computer case power supply and motherboard should i buy to start a gaming computer.? i want to make a computer but i want to get a good gaming comp start so i can easily upgrade the kit and i would like it to stay under 500 bucks for the parts (Case+motherboard+Power supply) not including accessory that i will buy later like graphics card, ram, and ,gaming mouse and keyboard... i liked the http://www.xoxide.com/nzxt-nemesis-elite-case-black.html case also the http://www.xoxide.com/thermaltake-armor-case-250mm-black.html case also looked good and big to hold a good motherboard ok what i was meaning was that i want a good motherboard for a "Thermaltake Armor Case w/ 250mm Side Panel Fan - Black" so i can start upgrading i wanted under 500 because i want a good base but i only plan to spend about 2k total on it.
Did I blow out my computer power supply ?? looks bad here... turned on my computer and heard a loud CRACK like a spark! Investigated and some water had leaked onto/into the computer. Bad... Dried it out and now no response. Maybe I just blew the power supply (I hope!) and other parts are okay, but here's how I made things worse... I already started checking connections inside and now I'm not sure where to plug in all those little wires if I try to put in a new power supply. Where can I find a guide to this? Do power supplies have a fuse I can change to see if that fixes it? And lastly, it is possible my 110-220 switch got switched, so which do I set it to? I'd appreciate answers to any part of this question or if anyone can point me toward good online tutorials for fixing this! (googling didn't find what i'm looking for)

Computer power supply needed? I need a replacement power supply for my alienware computer. I'm very confused as there are 1000 of online vendors. I have a asus p4c800-e deluxe mother board, the power supply that's in there is a 420 watt ATX 4 pin with a 12 volt plug. Alienware gave me the specs, but they don't sell "just parts". Any help, link would be appreciated. Thanks!
Building a computer, power supply question? Ok, I am building a computer, and I want it to be pretty good. Not extreme high end but high end. And I'm just wondering whether my power supply would be enough. Here are the parts I have decided on. Asus P8P67 Pro motherboard Intel Core i5 2500K Asus Nvidia GTX 460 (overclocked, 768MB of memory version) Hitachi Deskstar 1.5TB HDD 7200RPM Crucial Ballistix 8GB of DDR3 RAM (4+4) Case: Corsair 600T Optical Drive: LG Electronics 24X SATA DVD+/-RW Internal Drive GH24NS50 (Black) Now my questions, Is a Corsair cx600 good enough to power all of that? It's 600 watts, I'm not sure if it's enough and if it isn't, could you please tell me how many watts I need for optimal performance? Other brands or versions? And is this a good setup? I great appreciate your time and answers, thank you.
I'm building a desktop computer with all new parts. I have a question about installing the power supply? I've already installed my motherboard in my tower case, and I've also installed my processor and the fan that came with it. Tomorrow I'm installing the RAM and the power supply, and I was just wondering if the power supply would have any charge in it fresh out of the box for the first time? I've been wearing an anti-static wristband mounted to the metal part of my computer's tower case with the alligator clip. I know power supplies can sometimes hold charges which can be lethal, so I just wanted to know if I needed to change my grounding or anything? I know that you are supposed to avoid unequal currents between surfaces, and I just wanted to be safe. Do I have anything to worry about or should I continue to use the wristband the way I have? Should I change the grounding?
need information on tech specs for computer parts? Could somebody tell me what the latest tech specifications would be for the following: ram (what is the lowest that can be used and what is the highest that can be put in a computer) CPUs Power Supply Hard Drives Any info that you can give me to pass on would be appreciated. Thank you.
Computer Power supply? i have been building a computer and need some help with my power supplys i have 192 ram, 2 80Gig harddrives, a high end sound card, graphics card and a bunch of other parts i found lying around my house i had a 200W power supply that was blone out of there so i put in a 235W power supply and even that blew how much power will i need to run what i have on my computer
Will a computer power supply turn on with out being connected to the motherboard? I just got a new power supply (700w) to a computer that I'm building. It's the first part of the computer that I've actually received, and I wanted to test it out to make sure it worked. In any case I don't have a motherboard to connect it to right now, so I tried just plugging in the power cord and turning it on. It didn't work. Is there something wrong with my power supply, or does it have to be hooked up to a motherboard to work? Thanks in advance.
What are some reliable brands for computer power supplies? Also, should what sort of levels should I be looking for in a supply (350, 400, 500, etc)? After I installed a new video card my computer began freezing during bootup whenever I turned it on (but not if I restarted it once it was running). After a bit of research (and a lot of procrastination) I think the problem is the power supply. My current supply is 300w and it looks like, with the new card, my computer's max draw is over that (I've estimated it at around 308W, but I haven't been able to find specific numbers for specific parts and have had to use the next best numbers I could find). Having never thought about power supplies before, I have no idea which brands are accurate and reliable. I have heard stories (which may or may not be true) that some companies promise more than their products can deliver (500w on the unit but with a real performance of 250w). What are some good (and preferably cheap) brands and models? Thank you kindly for any help you can give.
Computer power supply question.? Hello, i am putting a pc togeather, and i got all my parts hooked up. Then when i went to start the PC my power lights/fans come on and i heard my hard drive come on with my CD ROM working. Then like after 30 seconds of the computer being on it would totally loose power and go off. It is set on 115v. Then i tryed setting it on 230v, and the computer would stay on then but my hard drive wouldn't work with 230v, and the power light would just blink. Then i got to reading and seen 115V is what i need it on for united states. so i was just wondering if it sounds like my power supply is bad? It is a 450 XION power supply new.
Effects of insufficient computer power supply? Many months ago I bought the nvidia gt 220 graphics card and I never really considered that my power supply wouldn't be powerful enough. (I have had my computer for about 4-5 years and it is a bit old, but I'm only 15 so I can't really afford a new one or better parts:[ ) Well, I found out that I need a 350W system power supply minimum with an Nvidia GT 220, but I looked and my current power supply is only 250W. What effects on my computer does an insufficient power have? Would it cause my computer to randomly crash? Decreased performance? (My computer was very fast when I got my new gpu now it is a LOT slower and no matter what I try, it doesnt make it faster again!) Any and all help would be great! My computer specs: -Microsoft Windows 7 Uktimate Edition (build 7600), 32-bit -AMD Athlon 64 Processor 3800+, 2.4GHz -Kingston DDR2, 2GB -NVIDIA GeForce GT 220, 1gb -(C:) 120gb, 36GB free (F:) 1TB, 400GB free
My dads old work computer had a fried power supply? It popped and smoked I replaced it with a spare I had laying around. I hooked everything up and turned on the power. Nothing turns on but a small green LED light is on in the mother board, none of the fans turn on. I have another power supply I could use. Is the motherboard dead? I want to use it as a gaming computer because a have a few spare parts laying around. Is it worth it to continue to fiddle with it?
Question About Computer Power Supply? So last night, I think my computer's power supply "exploded". It made this loud noise (sort of like a BANG) after/during shut down. My power supply model is: King Star KC-250 ATX. My question is, does anyone know if my entire power supply is busted or just a part of it. If the whole thing is busted, then 1) Is it worth replacing? (I believe it's a very old model, beacuse that computer is pretty old) - is it expensive compared to a new computer? or 2) Might as well buy a new computer My 2nd question is, I have some important stuff still on my harddrive, but obviously I can't really make a backup of it now coz I can't even turn on that computer. If I do buy a new computer, can I add an aditional harddrive to it (the one from my now busted computer) so I can keep all my files?
Over power protection in computer power supplies? if a computer power supply has over power protection, short circuit protection and over voltage protection would any computer part be damaged if the computer uses more power than the power supplie`s maximum wattage. e.g a gtx 480 fermi on a 400watts power supply if it boots up but during maximum load like gaming it needs more power than the power supply can give would the power supply shut off the computer preventing damage to other components thanks guys

I think the motherboard (45), CPU(65), and video card(350) takes up 460 watts.. But I also have the 4g of RAM and other stuff... Does that mean I need 1000w?! That seems like a ton.. can a power supply harm your computer in any way? ive recently had a motherboard problem, and a corrupt harddrive. the harddrive is fine, but hte mobo needs to be replaced. i have a great computer, e6300, and 1900gt, 2 gigs of ram. but a not so good power supply, its 450 watts, which is enough, but its a cheap psu that came with my case. is it possible that having a weak or cheap powersupply can harm the other parts in my computer? how will i know if it needs to be replaced? thanks so a power supply can blow or fry parts? how likely is that? and are there signs leading up to that? i dont plan on upgrading, 450 watts is enough for my parts i think, and i dont plan on adding more demanding parts ever. but the psu did come with the xionII case, so its a cheap psu, i just dont want it to damage my other parts down the road. i want something to last me 5 years, but i dont want to buy something i dont really need.
Can computer power charge my battery? I want to know if I can use a power supply from a computer and modify it (if needed) to charge a heavy duty UPS battery since batteries in the region of high amp/hours need about 5 amps to be charged and a computer power supply can go to approx. 25-50 amps at 12 volts. If you know of a circuit that shows specific parts and construction of itself please leave a link for me!
Power Supply Questions For Gaming Computer Build? Hey... So I'm currently building a gaming rig for the first time in my life, and could use a little guidance. Let me start by including the specs of the machine. Motherboard: ASUS P6TWS Professional CPU: Intel Core i7 950 3.06GHz 8M L3 Cache LGA1366 Desktop Processor GPU: SLI SET UP - 2X EVGA GeForce GTX470 Superclocked 1280 MB DDR5 Ram: DDR 3 Corsair (2gb x 6) Hard Drive #1: 128 GB Intel SSD Hard Drive #2: Old 500 GB HD from old rig Cooling: 3 Fans that came with my NZXT Whisper case. Intend on purchasing water cooling Accessories: CD-ROM from from old computer, USB/Firewire ports, & temperature display PSU: Corsair CMPSU-750TX 750-Watt TX Series 80 Plus Certified Power Supply PSU #2?: 500 Watt something or other from old computer My question here is whether or not the 750 watt power supply will be able to run this rig (I think I'll need 1250 Watts). If it will not... Is it possible to wire my 750 watt power supply & my 500 watt power supply together to create the needed 1250 watts? 2nd question is whether or not I will need a better cooling system based off of all the goodies I'll have running. I do intend on overclocking, which is making me think that a liquid cooling system would be a better choice. Any guidance is greatly appreciated! I already have all the parts (the 750 Watt power supply can be returned). It makes more sense fiscally to tie the two together, but am unsure if that's even possible, and am unsure whether it can cause damage to any parts in the computer. Thanks ahead of time!
Is it ok for me to use a computer's default Power supply unit and not buy a seperate PSU?10 pts reliable answe? Is it ok for me to use a computer's default Power supply unit and not buy a seperate PSU? Would my computer not break in a span of another 3 years... Computer won't turn on, power supply is fine? My computer all of a sudden stopped turning on. I swapped the power supply out with one that I know works, and it still doesn't turn on. The inside switch is connected also. Any other ideas for troubleshooting this? I have a "parts" computer available that also quit working right. Thanks!
Computer Power Supply overheated now I have no Monitor Activity? My power supply recently overheated and shut my computer down. When it cooled I turned it back on and everything was ok. While I was on the power supply fan must have went out and the computer shut down again. I waited about 1 hour to see if it would turn back on. When I try to turn it on the CPU fan blows and it is detecting the DVD drive but I get no Monitor activity. Is it possible that this part of the motherboard has fried? Any help is appreciated. I also tried a new power supply, this did not work.
does the computer power supply fan spin during start up? And should it always spin? I have had recent noise coming from my computer, the sound is a fan that is making a squealing noise. I know it is not my video card because it has been recently replaced when the computer was making the sound. It is also not my misc. fans because I've disconnected them to diagnose. So that leaves my processor fan or my PSU fan. Now today I had the computer power shut off all of a sudden and a burning smell came from my computer. I disconnected it and left it for a while, then quickly plugged it in with the side door open to see if the fans were spinning. The processor fan is spinning, but the PSU one is not. I can't tell where the noise is coming from so just wondering if the PSU fan is suppose to spin all the time. That way I can replace the correct part. I don't have any replacement parts so I really need some help. Thanks in advance.
Supply me with computer parts? Hi, Im looking to buy (or build) a new system. Budget is around $800 Im asumming you'll know EVERYTHING to build a system (motherboard, ram,Video Card,Power Supply,Hard drive, CD/DVD Burner, fan, etc.) If you could supply me with a case for all this it would be nice at all, (A decent company atleast Antec, Cooler Master, etc.)
Easiest Way To Determine Required Power Supply For New Computer Build? The case I'm considering doesn't come w/a power supply so I need to determine what I really need. Is there a guideline somewhere for this? I've found a list that breaks down watts per component but its on the vague side. I'd read that there should be a label stating actual usage on each part but either I don't see the info or I have no idea what it means. I'm sure its better to have more power than not enough, but can you have too much? TIA Sorry. I should've listed components but I'm not entirely done yet. So far........ - Intel D2C E640 - Gigabyte mobo - either 965P-DS3 or S3 - 2GB DDR2 SDRAM to start with - Antec 900 case - 500GB HD to start - will install 2nd later - DVD drive - Floppy - don't laugh - XtremeGamer Fatal1ty Pro Series sound card - 19" Widescreen LCD monitor - either Samsung or LG? **I only have 1 slot for my graphics card & I'm undecided. What are your thoughts.......... - keep same manufac as mobo - Gigabyte GeForce 7600GS - 512MB - EVGA GeForce 7600GT - 256MB Planning to run WIN XP Home but may dual boot Vista too. Thanxs! ***This will only be my 2nd build but this is wwaayy more from scratch than my 1st build. Oops, E6400.
How do I cool down my computer's power supply please help? I just got a brand new Xion 800 watt power supply for my Compaq Presario 32-bit Windows Vista. My computer is for gaming so that's why the big power supply. It has been installed for only a couple of hours and the lid of my PC is pretty hot. Also the supply is really loud. That part is the fan I believe and can live with it. But, computer above the supply is really hot. I was wondering if there was anyway to cool down the supply. Out of the 800 watts about 600 is for my graphics card and only 45 are for my CPU so I have extra watts. It's not like i'm out or anything. Please help I don't want to burn out my power supply and I also can't return it to the website. I would appreciate it greatly if you could give me some help on how to cool this down. Thanks so much to anyone who can help!
Anyone have any free computer parts they want to send me? I am building a "new" computer. My last one died and as a poor teacher, I need it but cannot afford one. I'm taking some parts from two old computers that I have. I don't know much about building them and am just learning. If you know of any good websites to order parts from or to learn more about building a computer from scratch, I'd appreciate it. Please include your e-mail address if you have parts. So far I have: case (power supply?) 256MB RAM CD burner What else do I need?
Will these parts work together for building my new computer? My budget is $2000 or less and I'm going to try to make a computer that will have some longevity and not need to replace it after another 4 years. Anyway, input is much appreciated (anything to save me some research time). Here is what I have so far in my search for computer parts: CPU and Power Supply http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductCombos.aspx?Item=N82E16819115036&SubCategory=343&SortField=0&PageSize=10&page=1 * Rosewill RX950-D-B 950W ATX12V v2.2 & EPS12V v2.91 SLI 8800Ultra SLI CrossFire Ready Active PFC Power Supply - Retail * Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 Wolfdale 3.16GHz LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor Model BX80570E8500 - Retail CPU is the fastest I could find for a decent price and had a large L2 cache. I could use some advice on the power supply. The one I picked was recommended for the CPU by newegg. It has a max of 950W, 2 80mm fans, and should fit into the case. Also, it says the psu is "crossfire ready" and not crossfire certified; will that make a difference? Or does it just mean that they haven't tested that psu with crossfire yet? I have to replace the power supply in a Gateway RSX 500S computer as the power supply seems to be dead...? ...and I need a recommendation for the cheapest possible power supply that will be easy to install into this computer. I could also use some advice as this is new to me. I am pretty tech savvy but I have never installed a power supply or built a PC from scratch. But, I do understand all the parts inside a computer as I have a 2 year IT degree and have replaced hard drives, CD drives, memory, etc.. I am doing this for a friend and any advice would be much obliged. Thank You!
My computer wasn't wrking so I switched the power supply on my computer and now it shuts of from overheating? works fine, but it keeps increasing in temperature until it shuts off to protect itself, CPU exceeded 100 C (200 Fahrenheit) Its a Gateway 500X http://support.gateway.com/support/srt/docs.asp?sn=0029743917 Motherboard Intel (Yorktown) Pentium 4 - 2.53GHz (533MHz) R2 [Part #2519075] http://support.gateway.com/s//MOTHERBD/INTEL/2519075/2519075nv.shtml OEM Power Supply was 160-Watt Power Supply R1 [Part #6500704] http://support.gateway.com/s//POWER/6500704/6500704nv.shtml Manufacturer Newton Power Ltd. Having a power supply that has a wattage that is too low can cause this? although the first one was 160, i think that meant minimum. but i think the new one is 250 MAX This is not a problem of fans, this kind of problem is far beyond proper ventilation, even with the case open in an air conditioned room it was. By the way, No I have not added or changed any other components. In fact, changing the power supply was the first time I ever opened it since we bought it from Gateway some years ago. It was just a hunch that it was the power supply.. Also, the emachines is broken and I don't know why. I don't think it was the power supply because 1) this power supply works and 2) it didn't work with another power supply.. but on the emachines I did add a 512MB RAM card ext to the 256 it had, but it worked a few months after that. Both computers were never shut off, I program them to get windows updates and definition updates and run scans overnight and so I always left them constantly On.. How bad is that? If you click the first link it shows you my exact computer: http://support.gateway.com/support/srt/docs.asp?sn=0029743917 the pentium 4 board you know takes an extra connection, it needs that 4 prong one.. the graphics card came with it (the card for the monitor), the graphics card, is not integrated, its a card that goes in the first slot on the mother board: 128MB NVIDIA GeForce4 MX440 [Part #6002191] and i just remembered that when we bought it (at a gateway store back when they had stores) we made them add a floppy disk drive at the time, and it has both a CDRW and a separate DVD drive. but the result is the same, no changes have been made. I was actually afraid that the problem was that I had a 160 watt and now i put a 250 in so its overheating because the new power supply is too high, but you people are saying that what it needs is a an even higher wattage power supply Also, can someone explain how it was apparently working on an even lower watt power supply 160, just fine for a few years? and I would also like to note that this new power supply has the extra 2nd connection required for a pentium 4 mother board, leading me to believe it was designed to work with it so there are no compatibility issues with getting a power supply too powerful ? only too low ? what do have to look at in specifications when you buy a power supply? just wattage and correct connectors? what about the volts and amps and all that stuff ?
Computer Power Supply and Plants? I am doing a science project for my AP Biology Class and i came up with and idea, but i dont know if it would work or not. I was going to use an unplugged computers psu( they don't lose their charge even when unplugged, and it can kill someone) And channel the left over power from a 350watt psu into a house plant. i am planning to take observations on how that affects the cells of the plant in various parts. Would that work or do nothing, or would that just make the plant explode. And also what would i need to safely handle and open psu
How to sell old computer parts.? I recently upgraded my computer, and I wanted to see if I could get a little extra cash selling off the replaced parts (AGP card, Mobo, Power Supply) Power Supplies are a dime-a-dozen so I doubt I'd be able to sell that. The AGP card is a bit older, a GeForce 6600 256MB The Motherboard is a Gigabyte Technology one from a few years ago with a max FSB speed of 2.3Ghz, made for Athlon Processors. I'm looking for some suggestions on asking price as well as what venue I should sell through. I live in Los Angeles so the Los Angeles Times is an option for the Classifieds, though I'm not adverse to selling it on eBay or some other online site.
What is the recommended power supply for an upgraded computer? ? I am upgrading my Sony VGC-RB42G with new parts. I am putting a dual core processor(3.16 GHz), ASUS P5Q Pro LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel Motherboard, OCZ Platinum 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066, and a ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 7 Pro 92mm CPU Cooler. I was wondering how strong the power supply should be, like 500W.?
can i use two computer power supply's in parallel to up the amp? i have two old ibm netvista power supplys, both are the same rated at 200w, they give out 12volts 9amp (corrent me if i am wrong on the amp part) can i hook them up in parallel ( + to +, - to -) to give me 12volts 18amp? if i cant do this with power supply's can i do it with ac to dc transformers,,, like if i had two 12volts 10amp,, could i parallely link them to give me 20amp with out blowing them up. i linked two 12volts 115 ah lead battery in parallel and they are working just fine, so can the same be done here... ummm i have one of those test meters with multipul settings, i cant mesure volts and stuff, but i havent yet figured out which setting measures the amp, the meter has one or those funny (u) signs but i cant figure that out yet since i lost the hand book that came with the meter.... one more thing, how cant i increase the out put of the power supply from 12v to something like 13.5v. :) i guess u have figured it out, i am trying to charge a huge 145ah lead battery with these power supplys. i can measure volts and stuff*
Can computer parts from a different country work in my computer? Hello all. I want to build a gaming PC up that will last me for a while, so I was looking at websites selling parts in the US/Canada that I could possibly import to the UK. Just one question is on my mind: Can imported computer parts (processor/motherboard/video card/ram, etc) work in a different country? I know the power supply is different, but if I were to use american parts in a UK-made computer would the whole thing just go up in smoke? Thank you for your time.
Computer fried...used knock off power supply? I bought some cheap knock off power cord (from hong kong) for my toshiba laptop. Put laptop down for a minute, came back and it was completely dead. The power supply smelled and was leaking a fluid. I'm positive the knock off is the problem and have learned my lesson. When I plug in the laptop with the right power cord, the lights come on and the fan runs, but nothing else. I have removed the battery and am working soley off the good power supply. What part would you suspect first?
How do you sell used computer parts? Like I have a power supply I want to sell, but not sure where apart from eBay and craigslist. What do people do with old/used computer parts that they don't want anymore?
How do i find out my computer's power supply? I am planning on installing an XFX 9800 GT graphics card to my computer and i don't know if i have the right power supply. This is the only thing left that i need to know, as i have already checked the cards compatibility with my motherboard/chipset. What are the acceptable input voltage ranges for a computer running on an 230V 60 Hz rated power supply? Please don't bother responding if you can't supply references! We have several computers on specialized testing equipment that is rated to run on 230V. The power is suplied via a 230V battery back up system (a UPS). When the UPS is running it only supplies 202 to 208V, The supplied power from the wall socket is nominally 208V commercial. Also, when the UPS is switched on to boot the computer, the power comes on full, and then drops to 178V for 8 to 10 seconds while the UPS goes through a self-test. Is this whats frying our hard drives and power supplies? What are the acceptable power supply ranges for a computer? The computers work normally for the most part, but we have lost hard drives when going trough a complete reboot. I should add that there is now way to boot or turn off the computers except by turning on or off the UPS. Thanks! I realize thats 3 questions, but oh well.
Request for suggestions on a new computer's power supply.? I'm working on building a computer for the first time, and although I've read and read, trying to learn about what I'm actually looking for, I've run aground with PSU's and decided it would be easier to ask for advice. My rig-to-be includes: Foxconn P35 Mars Intel Core2 Duo E8500 (3.16GHz) nVidia GeForce 9600GT (Possibly SLI, later on) Kingston 2GB DDR2 1066MHz (2x 1Gb) 2x HDD's (160Gb+ each, if it matters) I'm currently quite under my budget, and therefore don't mind on pricing, as long as it's not an overkill part. Though, I would like to get something with a little headroom incase I do decide to upgrade parts (or OC) in the long run. If it's not too much to ask, I would like not only some suggestions to which power supplies to look at, but also some reasoning so that I can learn from this. On that note, I don't mind tech terms at all. I also wouldn't mind some simple brand recommendations, mainly 'cause I'm very new to the PSU field. If you have any to suggest, that is. Thanks. I just looked at the Thermaltake Toughpower 750W (W0117). It has the same number of SATA connections as my motherboard supports, which would be handy if I get more drives. Opinions on Thermaltake in general?
What Power supply should I get for computer? Hi, I am just ordering new parts for another computer and was wondering what power supply should I get. By the way, the computer is not for gaming. I have a 500 watt thermaltake power supply but don't know if I need one with higher wattage. Here is the main stuff for the computer: OCZ Reaper HPC 4GB DDR2 1066 Ram, AMD Phenom 9950 BLACK EDITION Agena 2.6GHz 140W Quad-Core Processor, Nvidia 8500, 1 7200 RPM harddrive, 1 dvd burner, and thats about it. I am not sure about the motherboard exactly but it would be an highend motherboard. Thanks!

What do i do with my used computer parts? my computer is mixed with old and new parts. it broke down a couple days ago because of the power supply, but im not sure if it damaged other parts. thanks in advanced :]
Computer will not turn on, Maybe Power Supply? So I upgraded my pc, and with the leftover parts, I decided to create a backup pc to use. The problem is, as I was turning on the newly built backup computer, the power light came on, but nothing else came online. And soon I noticed the power supply smoking. My conclusion of the problem is that my power supply is shot. (yes, the smoke, the power supply fans not turning..) Now, my question is, could other components have caused the problem? And since the power supply did not function properly, is it possible that my motherboard is now shot? I'm considering buying another power supply to see
Computer parts and body parts? Which is which? Ok, so I need your suggestions on what computer resembles what body part. For instance I would say the DVD Burner is the computers eyes, ears and mouth because it reads data and writes it. The motherboard would be the skeleton because it holds it altogether and the case would be the skin and flesh as it is what is seen. Comment on these parts: - CPU - Motherboard - Power Supply - Case - DVD Burner - Hard Drive - RAM - Video Card - Monitor - Mouse and Keyboard Thank You!
Cant power new built computer when cpu is powered on? i just recieved a brand new computer parts from this computer olympics (mobo, cpu, case, power supply, ram, etc.) and i put it together and for some reason i can power the mobo on and get the fans spinning only when the socket 775 cpu's little 4 pin power cable isnt in. not the cpu fan power but the cable from the power supply to the mobo for the cpu. do u think the cpu is bad? now it looks like after keeping it runing for 5 minutes, there is no power going to the board. they gave this exact parts to be used together in a computer competition so i would imagine the power supply is strong enough. its got to be the motherboard or power supply? what to do u guys think?

How do you build a good computer with $200 and other parts I already have? I want to get my computer to better handle newer games, like Company of Heroes for example, at almost maximum potential and without any problems. I have $200. I have a good computer case, a 450watt power supply, two sticks of 512MB DDR2, an Intel Mobo that cost $130, an Intel Dual Core 1.86GHz processor, PNY PCI-express slot nVidia 7600 GS 512 MB video card, and a few stock fans along with other essentials like DVD drive and mouse and etc.
