Would i be able to use an old hp computer for parts on a reletively old gateway?See details...? I just got a hold of this old hp.It only has a 4.3gb hard drive and 64mb of sdram,so im thinking its pretty much useless.I was wondering if i could use the ram for my girlfriends gateway.It too is also old,around 2004 or so.It has a 69gb drive with 39.2gb free.It has 248mb of ram.Also,it has windows xp.But,it needs RAM in a MAJOR way,and neither one of us have the spare cash laying around for it.I cant run more than one or two programs without it jambing up,AND/OR crashing.Especially programs like lime,adaware,ccleaner or any media players etc...Another problem i have is our internet(dsl).. every time we turn around we cant get on because we get the..."page cant be displayed" crap with IE,and nothing happens with firefox.(blank)So we have to restart the machine all the time.Anyways,could i do it,and would it help?Also,how could i utilize the old hard drive to work like an external for misc. storage,or something like that?ANY spare parts for that matter,like the ethernet card?thanks I must tell you,i have absolutely no software with this hp,so any part switching i do,im probably gonna have to download any software,drivers,patches, and what not,right?Usually it can find it somewhere free and legal anyways.Now back on track....I dont think the ethernet card works on my girlfriends comp. either.I have to use a slower,more problematic usb cable.Its not the ethernet cable thats not working,i bought a brand new one,still nothing.The dsl modem is reletively new also so i dont think its that.Besides,ethernet never worked from the day we recieved the modem from verizon....So yeah,verizon tech support and i have tried just about everthing to get it working...Nothing...So switching that card out is at least possible right?Thanks again!!

How to get replacement parts for hp laptop I dropped my laptop (hp) on the ground not to long ago and the inside corner on the right closest towards me has a crack in it. How do I get sound on my computer after switching out parts on towers? I recently had my hp computer fried by lightning. My mother board was fried but my hard drive and memory were fine. I put them in a sony vaio tower that had a bad hard drive. The problem i'm having is that it keeps telling me that i no longer have multimedia audio controller. Computer parts question? I have a 4 year old HP computer. The processor and motherboard got fried. So i want to get new parts. Do i have to get the same ones or can i get better ones? Because a friend of mine told me that if i get different ones ome things might not work (cd rom for example). Does HP Warranty end after a computer part is replaced? I bought my computer less than a year ago and the hard drive failed. Since it was in warranty they sent a new one. Now my power supply has failed and when I contacted them they said my computer is out of warranty. Is it because I already used it once for the hard drive? When I use the HP Warranty Check Website: it says Status: Active but at the bottom it says "Product out of Warranty"

What are the chances a laptop repair store would carry parts for a HP track pad? The left button of the track pad is broken and can't be out back on because the hinges connecting it are broken. I have thrown the pieces away, revealing the first layer of the inner workings; the silicon nipple and the metallic hinges. The plastic outer casing is broken and the internal plastic hinges are broken. My Point: What are the chances a local computer repair store would have parts? Would they be able to repair it without opening the casing of the laptop?
Would it be better, or even reasonable, to build a new computer using mostly my old computer parts? I have about a five year old HP Pavillion. The only thing I've done to my computer is add RAM and a video card so I don't have much experience with this. I want to save money so I just want to upgrade over time. I figure it would be best to start off with a motherboard, processor, and RAM. I'm not sure if my Pavillion case is compatible with LGA 775 types so I would buy an ATX case as well. I would then move all my other drives from my Pavillion to the new case. Does this seem like it would work? Are there any apparent problems that I could come across?
Can any of my laptop computer parts still be used? I have 3 broken laptops now. I have a Gateway laptop that is 9 years old. It's gotten 7 years of use out of it. What can I do to find the trouble as to why my speakers are not working on my HP computer?The internal speaker? in the tower is the only one working, but it is not loud enough for me above the room noise. Can HP computers take any motherboards? I'm on my third power supply in my HP Pavilion desktop. After installing the last one, the technician said that since my desktop was 8 years old, the motherboard could go at any time and if it does, that's the end of the computer. What makes an apple/dell/hp computer an apple, etc.? If you buy a computer from one of these companies, the computer is known by that manufacturer, an apple comp., dell comp., hp comp., etc, but what makes it accustomed to that manufacturer? While apple says something like their computer and OS are made by them so they get along better , unlike PC's which use different pieces usualy a Microsoft OS. It seems to me any manufacturer simply assembles the machine, the CPU, motherboard, etc. (main parts of a computer) are made by somebody else. So what gives. I can understand the branding on PC machines, but what about apple, sure its their OS, buts is the system really theirs, or is it more like, the Apple OS is made specifically for these components (which are branded apple)?
URGENT: What parts come with the HP Pavilion a345c Desktop Computer? i sold this computer to a guy on craigslist. granted i dont know much about computers, i thought i gave him all the parts necessary for it to work. including power cable, keyboard w/wire, screen w/wire, speakers w/wire... he called back saying it wouldnt run cause i forgot to give him the "AC adapter" i have like 6 different adapters so i'm not sure which one is compatible. didnt even know desktops needed them. Where can I find this computer part for cheaper than what HP wants? My computer isn't quite operating as fast as I'd like and I've decided that, among other things, more RAM would help since I use a lot of high demand programs. HP wants $85 for each RAM module, but I think that's insane. I don't want to pay that much and I know it's cheaper else where, I just don't know any reputable place I can get it cheaper. That's where all of you come in. I'd like this part: 2GB, 800MHz, 200-pin, PC2-6400, SDRAM Small Outline Dual In-Line Memory Module (SODIMM), for less than the insane $85 HP wants. This is a laptop and I know it won't last more than 3 years so breaking the bank on it isn't even an option. If it was a desktop, I'd probably be more apt to spend the extra cash, but I don't have the funds to fork over that kind of money.
How do i fix my hp computer I have a hp xp computer that I bought couple of year's ago and now it's not working properly. I click the turn on button and it load everything well in till it finish loading up the windows xp loading part. After that part it goes into a complete black screen and couple of seconds later it restart itself. It's been a month since it keep doing that. I try to click f10 at the start but it wont load up. I think something is wrong in the inside of my computer but I open it and everything seem to be in the right place. Can somebody tell me how to fix this problem thank you.
Can you change the Power Source Unit in a HP Slimline computer? I don't know much about hardware. I was planning on buying this, but I just learned that it's PSU can't handle strong Graphics Cards available to me. The Slimline has a 220W PSU, Can I change it for a stronger one later on? Or does it have some sort of slimmer, smaller PSU since its part of the "Slimline"? Can I use any decent powered PSU or does it need to be some special kind?
Motherboard for HP computer? I have an HP Pavillion D4100Y computer and the pins on my motherboard for the cpu are bent. I called a store and they said that i should call HP and get their part since it has a better chance of working. When i called HP, first time they gave me a phone for a company that did not work. 2nd & 3rd time they gave me a legit company but bad item numbers. And then that company said that they no longer have the part. So HP does not have it and the company they suggested does not have it. Where can I buy a replacement motherboard for a HP Pavilion dv2415nr laptop computer? My HP Pavilion dv2415nr (dv2400 series) will not boot up after I power-on and just freezes without beeping or even letting me enter BIOS. I believe the motherboard is having trouble but I can´t find where to buy a replacement (new or refurbished). This happens 90% of the time I powerup, the other 10% of the time it powers-up and boots perfectly and there seems to be no trouble with the HD or any other parts or the software.

Why do Macs have less parts in them compared to a PC? How to get rid of the Horrible, reflective glare on my new HP G60-53OUS laptop computer? My boyfriend just bought me a new HP laptop comuter for my birdthday. The computer part is great but the screen is a nightmare from hell. It is horrible! Evey bit of light in the room reflects off of it. I can see everything behind me refecting in the monitor. It is like using a monitor that is made out of a mirror and has at least a dozen stong lights shining into it. It is hard to see the computer on the montior becasue of all the reflections in it. It has very bad glare. I am a migraneur on top of that and if I use it more than 15 minutes, I get a terrible headache. I cannot understand why HP would make such a horrible product. I hate to tell my friend how much I hate his gift. I have the added problem that he has downloaded all of my personal files onto it. I have used computers for a long time and I have never seen such a terrible monitor . If I keep this computer, I will still have to continue to us my Compaq. Does anyone else have this problem? Any suggestions?

need help on new hp computer? So I bought a new hp desktop computer with the whole package monitor, key board, mouse, and printer. It was my first time turning it on. It had windows vista, just to let you know. when I turned it on, It was configuring the monitor and such. It was amazing til It came to the part with registering the computer. There was like 4 screen that popped up and it went to the 1st one which was online registration. when it pulled up my screen went blurry and I couldn't fill anything out. so I turned it off by pressing the off button on the hard drive. Does anyone know if this is a major problem? I turned it on again later that night and it didn't bring me back to the registration, security stuff, etc. any help would be appreciated. also I bought it yesterday. Idk if I should return it and get a new one?

Cheap and easy to maintain security for a new HP Vista computer? Okay, I just bought a really decent Vista equipped computer that I have yet to set up on the internet. Have friends that swear by Ad-aware, crap-cleaner, and spybot plus a windows firewall. 1-are those three programs good enough to protect me? I'm not a computer expert, but not a dummy either. I want something to protect against junk on the web as I will have broadband connection, however I don't want the programs themselves to slow me down to begin with. 2-Are these programs free? How do I know they don't come downloaded with spyware/malware of their own? 3-If I hook my PC up to the net and go download the programs as the VERY FIRST THING I do on the net, will I be for the most part okay as long as I run each program to sweep for whatever might have gotten in while my PC was unprotected?? 4-Do you have any other suggestions of freeware that is good to protect a computer? how much SDRAM should i have installed in my HP computer? i have a hp pavilion 310n desktop and it says (on the sticker on the front): 1.1 GHz Intel Celeron processor, 128mb SDRAM memory, 40.0 GB ultra DMA hard drive (see box spec label for details), and CD-ROM drive 48x max. speed. What would happen if I took the HD from another computer and put it in another? OK so I've got a desktop that the harddrive apparently has crashed. And I've got another computer that is supposedly in good working order (it's not mine, so I haven't turned it on yet) and I want to take the other computer and take it apart and put the harddrive in my old computer and kind of rebuild it. The computer I'll be taking parts from is a Dell Dimension XPS R450 and the other computer is a HP Pavillion 6623. Both had Windows 98 on them, unless the Dell has been upgraded (I'll have to check it). I know they both use the same kind of ram so that is cool to combine that...but if I put the harddrive from the dell into the HP, what exactly is going to happen? I've never done this particular thing before, will the windows on the dell boot up in the HP? Etc? I suppose I'll have to find the drivers for the stuff on the HP on the net cause some parts I can't move over cause the difference in the tower. Any tips or anything? It's my pet project lol. I'm not doing it so that I can use it or anything, it's just a pet project. I just want to get it working so I can get rid of it to somebody. But why not? I just need a working harddrive, I can format it and start from scratch (I have awindows 98 disk), couldn't I? OK so I will have to format the drive while it is still in the Dell and then put it in the HP and start from scratch? Also...I'm not entirely sure I have a way of making a boot floppy, as I haven't have a floppy drive in a long time and don't have any disks anywhere I don't think. Could you make a boot CD and have it work the same? hm.
What exactly are these computer parts? We had sent in a HP Pavilion Notebook PC DV2710US to HP for repair recently. It was getting really hot on the left side of the computer from the bottom left to the left side of the keyboard. We also maked on the paperwork of a high pitch electronic sound. if I install a new hard drive do I loss all the original system recovery that comes with the computer? My hard drive is dying. I have a HP computer desktop. Please help, trying to defrag my hp computer and getting this message.? My brother has high speed through charter but lately the computer is really slow at times. He deleted temp files and cookies, and took some things off the computer (like some extra stuff he don't use). He also ran the Norton. Now here is the troubling part, when he tried to defrag the system, this popped up,"D drive is too full, you only have 11% free space but need 15% to defrag."
