Compaq C717NR notebook is not recognizing new harddrive!? I am trying to install a new hard drive to my Compaq C717NR notebook and I am using Windows XP Pro boot disk and when I get to the part where is shows the partitions it says there is no disks shown. I tested the hard drive in the bios and it passed so I don't think it can be broken. Any reason why it is not showing up...the other hard drive before it broke had Windows Vista premium installed on it could that be an issue? Any help would be nice.
Why would a Compaq Presario CQ50 notebook lose part of its screen? I have a Presario CQ50-211NR Notebook/laptop. Today I started it up (running Vista) and I could not see the opening DOS stuff at all (instead it was blank, with some light blobs "bleeding through" esp. on the right side). Windows did eventually start, but it was compressed in size with blank areas on the right side (about two inches), and the bottom (about half an inch). Even weirder is that the Windows start icon on the lower left appears to be "melting" downwards into the blank space. I've tried to change my display settings, but they just go back to what they were (they will not change). Has anyone ever heard/seen anything like that?
Ordering a replacement battery for the Compaq Presario V6106AU Notebook in New Zealand? I need to order a replacement battery for my laptop (Compaq Presario V6106AU), and I live in New Zealand. I can't seem to find anyway to order it to New Zealand directly off the HP Parts Store, and instead it says I have to order through one of their HP Authorised Resellers (the only ones in New Zealand being EMPR NZ Limited and Visparts - who's website is currently down at the moment). Has anyone else had to order replacement Compaq parts in New Zealand? If so, who did you order it through? (Please don't recommend websites such as Ebay and TradeMe, etc.)
Please recommend how to sell notebook parts. I wish to sell it.? I have a laptop compaq presario 725US model. I would like to sell parts of it. It is non-working condition (I couldn't turn on it). I think that it might be battery problem. However, I'm pretty sure that DVD drive, hard drive, the screen, ram and key board are working.

Compaq F500 Notebook key? On my Compaq F500 Series Notebook, 2 of the letter keys fell off. None of the plastic bottom parts are broken, just fallen off. I've Googled it, but no helpful results came up. So, any advice?
Compaq Presario notebook with no CD-ROM drive or operating system? My friend recently gave me his broken Compaq Presario notebook. It's a bit old (Presario 700 series) and it's built for Windows XP. When I turn it on the Compaq logo is seen. Then it goes to a black screen and simply says "Operating System not found." This is what he told me when he gave it to me. I figured I would just pop my Ubuntu disk in and load up that OS, but the notebook has no CD-ROM drive. There is an empty bay on the side that has a little orange tape in it. I assumed this is where the CD-ROM is supposed to be. Nothing seems to be broken, only exposed. But without enough knowledge of laptops, I'm not sure. Also, there is an empty bay on the bottom of the system directly under where the floppy drive is. I don't know what is missing here, either. The question has 5 parts. 1. Is that the correct location for a CD-ROM drive? And with what little knowledge I've given of this device, would a new drive be able to be placed in there? 2. Where can I get a laptop internal CD-ROM drive? 3. Without an operating system, can a new CD-ROM drive be installed? 4. Without an operating system, can I use a Ubuntu install disk to install linux on this system? 5. And if none of the above will work, is there any other way to get this thing working again? Or would there be an easier way? I guess you get what you pay for, huh?

Fixing a Compaq Notebook ac port? I have a Compaq v2000 notebook and the ac port is broken. It broke when the laptop fell with the ac adapter still connected and the ac port got loose and now it won't work. I opened up my notebook down to the motherboard and from what I can see it's a loose ac port with another little part that's under the ac port (sorry don't know what it is called, but it does push down when you apply pressure). My question is if I can repair it myself (and how) or is it a very high tech kind of job and is there somewhere I can buy a replacement part for my v2000?

I am looking for information on to upgrade a Compaq Presario 2190US Notebook computer.? Processor: 2.4GHz Mobile Intel Celeron Motherboard: HP Part #: 319449-001 Also known as "Hewlett-Packard 002A NS570 Version PQ1A80" More computer info here: http://h20141.www2.hp.com/hpparts/Search_Results.asp?mscssid=NK1N0HTRNQ0B9HSSRXPUS0R75G8BATA8 I'm looking to upgrade the processor on this computer... I've just about maxed out the RAM... Hoping that an upgrade from the Mobile Celeron to a Pentium 4-M would upgrade system performance... I have 2 questions: 1. What is the max processor I can put in this board? 2. If I can upgrade the processor, do I have to upgrade the BIOS? And if so, how would I do that? Thanks!
What's the difference between these HP COMPAQ laptop power jack parts? I have a Compaq Presario R3000 Laptop ''notebook'', and it has the very common problem with the DC input power jack. Internal ''cold solder'' joints have come apart, and no power gets to the motherboard. I want to order one from the UK... but what is the diff between the DC 010, the DC 011 and the DC 015. They all cost about the same. see the prices here: http://shop.benl.ebay.be/i.html?_kw=R3000&_kw=power&_kw=jack
why can't i change the screen resolution on my HP compaq mini 110 notebook? I have tried to change it in the display settings tab and the slider is right down to the left, but it just won't move when i try to move it to the right. I have been through my 'troubleshooter' and checked the drivers etc and changed the 'hardware acceleration' to 'none' but nothing has made any difference. The reason why I'm trying to do this is that I'm doing an online ECDL course and coursework opens in a window that is too small for its contents but it can't be scrolled down and no matter how big i stretch the window the bottom part soesn't display so I can't do my work unless i fix this problem. I'm told changing the resolution will fix it, but if anyone has any other advice as to how to sort the problem I'd be very grateful! thank you.
Upgrade 90s Compaq Laptop to today's standards? I have a very old Compaq laptop from the late 90s (its running Windows 98 right now). I was wondering if it is possible to use it as a case for newer, better parts. All the DIY guides I've read say I need to get a bare-bones notebook, and I just want to use the old laptop as a case and get upgrade it. Is this possible?
Where can i get a replacement Spacebar for my Laptop? I have an HP Compaq Presario CQ61 Notebook, and recently the spacebar key had something jamming it underneath so i pulled it off and when i tried to put it back on some of the very small parts broke off so can anyone tell me where i could buy a spare?

Is this because computer is a notebook, a Windows 7, or why? I had a personal computer years back. For the greater part of last year I'd use the PCs at library, and only recently (three months), have been using a Compaq, Windows 7 notebook. It's great in everything, except I still prefer using mouse (and don't have one now), and also I've been noticing that whenever cursor is on the right side_before getting to the up and down scroll arrows_the computer's screen keeps moving up or down. It does this too frequently, and also in many instances when I only go over a category, let's say here in Yahoo and even in eBay, it opens right there without me clicking on it. It is somewhat annoying a bit time-consuming. Is this a glitch or are all notebooks the same? Also, what is the difference between a notebook and a lap top? Bassman1, thanks for quick reply and for tip.
Is there a web site that will give me a list of compatable LCD screens for my compaq r4000 laptop? It is a compaq R4000 CTO notebook PC PN495AV. I need to replace the LCD screen from what I have read. It will come on and run fine but the screen will display nothing unless I open it multiple times. It will sometimes finaly display fine but most of the time it will have lines thru it. Also the screen will freeze sometimes and I will have to open and close it. It displays fine with a external monitor conected to it. I've already replaced the LCD invertor and the LCD cable. I am now looking for a LCD screen and need to find a list of compatable part numbers. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I already have removed the LCD screen when I painted my laptop Army Green. It was doing this before and just progresivly got worse.
Looking into making a notebook? I am considering building my own notebook. My budget is around $700US, including shipping fees (because I am not in the US). THis is because from what I heard, barebone notebooks can only be bought in the US,. Anyway, my dilemma is that I cannot find a barebone notebook of good quality at all, let alone worry about other parts. I'm looking at 16", or around there, but not below...preferably HD. As for companies, I think I'm okay with ASUS, DELL, ACER, LENOVO and TOSHIBA (although Toshiba will probably not fit in my budget). Please no HP, compaq, MSI or actually anything other than the brands specified previously, because I have had VERY bad experiences with brands like compaq, hp etc... Also, I was looking for a barebook that ran on i7 (but I guess I can manually change that), but I believe that will be too expensive, so maybe i5...I dunno...any hints on if I can change the intel? And also, I was looking for a barebook that supported nividia graphics. Other than that I don't really have many more worries. I can probably change the hard drive myself if need be, but I would like 4GB RAM. As for wifi, I have absolutely no idea how those cards worked or if they are preinstalled. So could you please supply me with several good barebooks and PLEASE include the barebooks requirements and restrictions. It would be REALLY appreciated. Thankyou, I'm still a newb to all this building tech stuff...but I'm getting there... EDIT: I'm looking for a barebook/barebone notebook, NOT A NOTEBOOK (because I want to be able to buy the specific parts i need)
why did the power icon on my laptop disappear? i have changed the properties on my task bar to make sure ALL icons show up and the power icon never shows up the part where you can choose an icon to be "on" or "off" does not work for the power icon. i can't click it However it USED to be there how do i make it appear again? -I have a compaq notebook & use Windows 7 too. how do i fix this? How does a company like Compaq "build" a computer? I have a Compaq desktop PC, to be more specific: Compaq Presario SR2014HM. What I want to know is how does a company like Compaq build a PC (desktop, laptop, or notebook) and that PC is forever known as a Compaq. The motherboard I have is an ASUS. What part of the whole desktop PC "tells" that the PC it is a Compaq. Like whenever I restart my PC the logo that first shows says Compaq. What information storage unit does the PC read to reconize that it is a Compaq. I know that it IS NOT the HDD, because I've formatted my HDD and reinstalled my OS several times. Is it the casing? the PSU? What is it?
Virus or more expensive problem with laptop? My notebook will go past the initial Compaq logo. However, shortly after it stops at the Microsoft bar. Here's the crappy part: When I hit F11 to reformat, after Windows loads the files, it freezes. So my first question: Is this a virus doing this (which I hope it is) and secondly: Would my company tech. be able to fix this or am I looking at ample amounts of money being spent? Thank you in advance.
Do you know how to fix USB connectivity problems in laptops? Hello there. I have a Compaq EVO N160 notebook that has malfunctioning USB ports. I think I must have shorted the circuitry when I inadvertently connected the wrong (12V instead of 5v) voltage power cable to an external DVD/CD combo unit that was connected to one of the USB ports. Since then, both my combo unit and laptop USB connectivity has not worked. I tried to fix it by replacing the USB sub-board (I did this twice) but still could not get USB connectivity. I also tried to get USB connectivity by getting USB 2.0 card bus for the PCMCIA but still no luck. The damage must have occurred on the motherboard. I have since been looking to replace the motherboard (Part 251368-001) but the cost is not justifiable. Can anyone steer me in the right direction? Is there any reasonably easy fix solution that would not need me to replace the motherboard (which would cost over $200)? I also have another problem in that the computer cuts out unexpectedly every 20 mins or so and I have to re-start it every time. What could this be?
HP Notebook HDD crash (10pts for solid answer)? Okay so I've had my notebook (dx6650us) for about 1 1/2 years. 8 months ago the primary hard drive crashed so I called HP tech support after I had ran the diagnostic test to confirm it. They promptly sent me a new HDD and recovery CD and told me I could replace it myself. The HDD they sent me was the wrong one however and after calling them they told me I needed to mail the entire thing back because the correct part was no loner available. A week or so later I got it back and everything was back to normal. Moving ahead 6 months I have encountered the same problem. Except this time the warranty is expired. They told me that it was going to cost me $300 dollars to fix or they would sell me a P.O.S Compaq for $450. Of course I wouldn't want to buy a new laptop because mine is pretty freakin' new. I figured they would understand that it was a reoccurring problem and either fix it again or offer me a better solution then this. The notebook was $700 new and I have a hard time believing $300 of that was one flippin' HDD. Has anyone else encountered this issue? What would cause this to keep happening? What options do I have? Can I buy a HDD myself and use the recovery CD to reinstall windows? I found the exact same one on Amazon for $50: http://www.amazon.com/Toshiba-MK1237GSX-internal-SATA-300-buffer/dp/B000RVFPD4/ref=wl_it_dp?ie=UTF8&coliid=I23ECJR30EWOJJ&colid=2VSDKXLHLKSP9
my phone jack inside my computer is not responding? the part where you plug the telephone cord into the computer is not responding...I have a compaq notebook pc and it was working fine before now it is not working at all but the ethernet plug is doing just fine...How do I fix this problem and is it something I can do manually. also how do i delete programs that the add/delete wont get rid of. Bad Motherboard? We recently had a problem with a Compaq notebook not powering up. We bought from Best Buy and purchased the extended warranty, which was expiring in 2 months. so we took it to Geek Squad. They sent it in, replaced the hard drive and returned it. ONE DAY after the warranty expired the computer wouldn't power up. I had a tech from my work IT dept look at it and the hard drive was labeled "repaired". I took back to Best Buy and they were adamant that they only use the highest quality brand new parts. Upon my request they removed the hard drive and it took a manager to admit that it was "repaired". After a few days of the manager making phone calls it was determined that they would replace the hard drive free of charge. I received a message yesterday from Best Buy that the hard drive was replaced but the motherboard is bad and will cost $640 (cash) to replace. My question - can a hard drive replacement mask a bad motherboard? Does anyone have any suggestions? HELP Please! So, do I have a leg to stand on with Best Buy? Can I insist that they should have known when it was still under warranty that it was going to go bad?

How much could i get for a laptop i have? I have a Hp compaq notebook that I got from my uncle last year for christmas. Its was a wonderful laptop from the start. But then a piece inside of it that makes it charge broke off and is now stuck in the charger. Yeah it sounds weird but its the truth. How much could i get for it because i am now saving for a macbook and would like to sell it. Its has windows xp professional. The cpu is single core 2.4 i think. It has about 1.5 gig of ram i think and a 90 gb hard drive. As for graphics im not sure. If i remember right its just a 64mb nvidia integrated. Nothing special. So should i try and sell it or just scrap it for parts and sell those?

***Computer Problems***? Ok so I let my brother borrow my laptop and when i got it back i had to fix a bunch of stuff. There's only two things wrong with it. (1) My on screen volume signals or icons won't appear ONLY the symbols or icons on the task bar. I already tried right clicking; doing this; doing that; even going to computer screen options; even keyboard options; other devices and i still can't find a way to make it appear on screen. (2) On my Cyberlink PowerDVD 9 I can take snap shots or picture frames of the movie while it's playing but I can't find the pictures or snap shots after I'm done with the movie. (3) This open file security warning box keeps popping up every time I use the computer. It says the file does not have a valid digital signature that verifies its publisher. You should only run software from publishers you trust. Then in the middle of the window it says The publisher can not be verified. Are you sure you want to run this software? Name: ...ry Internet Files\Content.IE5\NNP1LT04\go[1].exe Publisher: Unknown Publisher Type: Application From: C:\Users\MOMMA\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Wi.... Then it gives me the option to Run or Cancel. I tried both and it still comes back. I even found the file and deleted it. I even tried clicking both options and it still comes back. Then I opened it with windows internet explorer and it opens for 2 seconds then closes so it i can't even see what is suppose to load. I restarted and i've rebooted a kuhjabillion times and it still doesn't work. I don't have any money to have it fixed so can anyone or someone offer me help or advice on ANY of these problems i would really appreciate it. PLEASE & THANK YOU! I'm DESPERATE! It has all my resumes, cover letters and important documents on here. It's a COMPAQ Presario CQ62-209WM Notebook PC. The Part or Product Number is WQ849UA#ABA.

My New Memory chip won't work???? PLS HELP!!!!? HI. I have a compaq armada notebook. Its a 500mhz pentium III The memory requirements are for a 144 pin dramm sodimm chip, 3.3 volt, 100 speed, parity is not supported. the computer can handle up to a max of 2 chips, each 256 meg. When I bought the computer, it came with 64 MB memory. The memory chip itself is a toshiba, has 2 chips on it, and is labled: 8*64 sdram 100pc. This chip will work fine in either memory bank on its own. I bought a new memory chip recenly. Its a toshiba, with 4 chips, labled 16*64 sdram. speed is not printed on the chip, but the part number is: T8z93-80, which is officially a 100 speed sodimm sdram chip. WHY does my computer give me an error message right at the post stating that an invalid memory chip is inserted?? Any help appreciated. I am thinking that maybe this new chip has a parity chip as one of the 4??maybe the voltage is wrong?? what exactly do 8*64 and 16m*64 mean?

laptop, ac power adaptor? I have an older compaq r3000, p4, 2.8g notebook, the computer works fine, my problem is that when I plug in the ac power adapter it will start to charge and then switch to battery (the ac power charger is brand new, factory spec., tested, working perfectly). So, I have to keep unplugging and pluging back in the stupid ac power cord every two minutes and then it will switch back from battery to charge/ac power (very annoying)... I think there is a loose wire or connection in side the notebook at the point where the ac power plugs in...has anyone had and/or fixed this type of problem in the past, what should I be looking for, where can I get replacement parts if necessary? could it be some other issue(s)? thanks Ok, I tried to run off of the A/C alone and it doesn't work...the weird thing is that when the computer is off it will charge fine. but when it's on it will start to charge (5 seconds) and then go to battery...the battery does charge and hold the charge, so I'm guessing that it is the mobo (I've build lots of desk tops but never a notebook, but I'll crack this baby open tonight and check it out...) explain this...I go into computer management, and disable the "Microsoft acpi-compliant method battery"....and now it will run stable on AC power no problem? no more messing with the plug....(the icon changes from the one that suggest charging to one that just has the AC plug (no lightning bold)...
Anybody here KNOWLEDGEABLE about Laptops? I have a HP Compaq 6735s http://www.computashack.com/catalog/images/hp-compaq-6730b-notebook-pc.jpg And it will not come on and I want to know if it is a new Adaptor is needed or a new Battery? When I plug the adaptor into the wall and press the power button on - it doesn't come on but the part where you plus the adaptor pin into the laptop it flashes when I press the power button on. Does anybody here know if it is a new adaptor that is needed or a new battery that is needed? Why do mac owners think there cool? Macs suck... here are my reasons why Macs are ridiculously over priced. Macs have to have such high prices because they share a very small market of the computer market; the monopoly of course belongs to Windows. For example, you can get a $500 Compaq Presario notebook or a MacBook with the same specs for $1200. PCs are expandable and upgradeable PCs have a larger cross section of part available that are as good if not better then those provided by the manufacture. AAC sounds like shit, and so does mp3 AAC sounds more like your listening to music at a dance club. Way to much treble and bass not enough mid range sounds. You really have no other choice in codec’s. So your pretty much screwed. Options With a PC you get options. Don’t like Windows Media Player then try VLC, don’t like that then try something else. With a Mac there well iTunes. The biggest pill o’ crap I have ever seen. Always screws up your file structure. Pain in the ass to work with when trying to copy over files to the iPod. All in all it just sucks. Customizable You really can’t do any cool customizations to a Mac. You can what change out the Apple colors. With a PC you can do sweet mods like shoving a computer into a pumpkin just for the hell of it, or even making your laptop look like the souls of the dead are trying to escape. You never see any of this stuff for a Mac because it would be a waste to try. Be out $2k just to do something small, and if it breaks well your out. With a PC you would maybe spend $400-$500 on a base computer. If you have monitors. Maximizing In windows when you maximize it take up the screen. On a Mac it leaves holes and gaps everywhere. All this means is when I click some place I’m more likely to pull up another window that I didn’t want. I don’t know about you but at any give time I have probable 8 windows open and that’s not counting my FireFox tabs. And when you get on a roll writing some code the last thing you want is to click something and have it appear right in your face and make you loose your momentum. Closing Programs When you go to close a program on a Mac it doesn’t really close. Whats this lead to wasted CPU processes and resources. When I close something I want it to close not just sit there. Alt-Tab(command-tab) When using alt-tab on a Mac it only shuffles the minimized programs not the current displaying programs. So what if I got 5 chats open and I want to switch. You take this and the closing programs and you got a pain in the ass as well to try and switch quickly between programs. Too many command keys Function, control, alt, option, and command (which used to be called open apple and is sometimes referred to by its symbol). Which one do I use to right-click again? Which one makes the delete button delete? Surely we can get rid of one or two of these. No dedicated Page Up, Page Down, Home, and End keys Enough said. How can you not have those keys. If you work in a terminal at all they are so nice to have, or if you have to go through pages of documents. You just can’t have them. Clock sucks It really sucks. Sun 10:00 AM. I want to know the date – I know it’s Sunday, for crying out loud. Maybe I can change the format. Let’s go look. Nope, but I can add seconds or flashing separators. Who needs the date when you can make those colons flash? (My Linux clock not only shows me some useful information, but I can also get a quick glimpse of the calendar by clicking it. Sorry Mac, but the Linux clock kicks your clock’s ass.) Safari Sucks Safari was released three years ago. I still can’t tab to a select list. But, to be fair, that’s probably really hard to do. GAMES This would be my number one reason I hate the Mac. There are zero games. Yet alone you really have shit for graphics processing to handle the games. The last real game was World of Warcraft that you could play on the Mac and even then WOW disappointed me (Longtime EQ player, would take me pages to describe my disappointment.). Personal I would want to be able to play a game on a computer that I paid $2000 for being that the tower I got now was that much and I have dual screens and at the time on of the best graphics cards on the market, and it looks way cooler then any of that Mac crap. And yet pc users are found inferior to mac users. I was going to buy a mac until I realized these flaws after test driving my friends mac.
Can the same power cord be used on a laptop in the philippines that I use in the US? I have a used Compaq Presario notebook laptop that I am considering sending to a friend in the Philippines. My question is will my friend be able to use the same power cord that I use here in the US or will they need to purchase a different cord (due to plug and power difference in the Philippines) and if so where can I purchase one? Please dont tell me to go to their website again! I have been to the manufacturers website and called their customer service number but all I got was someone that I could not understand and he was asking me for all of my personal ID (name, email address, mailing address and phone number info as well as every number associated with the laptop. I finally just hung up on the poor guy due to pure frustration. I couldn't believe they would need all that info to answer 1 simple question about power cords. The worst part was that even after getting all that info he still was uable to give me a correct answer to a simple yes or no question. grrrrrr.
Which is better? HP 6715s laptop vs Aspire 3000? The HP 6715s is 3500+ processor budget laptop built by HP, it's part of the Compaq business series. The HO 6715S 15.4 inch screen, which can be considered a big DTR (Desktop Replacement). The specs for this particular model are: AMD Sempron Mobile 3500+ 512 MB DDR RAM (1 dimm.) 80 GB 5400 Rpm Hard Drive 15.4" XGA monitor Windows Vista Business 8802.11a/b/g internal WLAN Reasons for Buying: I bought this laptop to replace my old Sony laptop, which kept overheating constantly. I wanted a notebook for basic tasks, and maybe some occasional games at the lowest price. I wanted built in wireless, at least a 40 GB HD, CD Burner/DVD-ROM drive and 256 MB RAM. Some other laptops I looked at were the following: Acer aspire 3000(battery) Dell Inspirion 6000 (Celeron M) (battery) ibm thinkpad t41(battery) Sony pcga-bp71(battery) Sony vgp-bps2(battery) Sony vgp-bpl2(battery) I didn't have any experience with onlins shopping process, and I found out that Celeron M's are just stripped down Pentium M's, which isn't very good, and the i6000 seemed a bit bulky. Build & Design: I am impressed by Acer's "folio" design. It looks professional, clean looking, and gives the laptop a feeling that it is worth more than it looks. It's curved lines make it seem a lot thinner than it is, even though it isn't really that thick in the first place. The case feels a little flimsy at the wrist rest areas and the screen has a little flex, but the overall build quality of the case feels solid. The case is made up of plastic with a metallic silver look, it feels smooth to the touch. The notebook weighs about 6 pounds. It feels a little heavy, but it is relatively light compared to my old 8 pound Toshiba notebook. The screen hinges feel solid. There is some rippling of the screen that occurs if you push in on the back of the lid. Overall the build quality is OK, good for everyday use, but it's not meant for taking excessive abuse or being taken into the wilderness. from:http://www.laptop-battery-charger.net

DIM Laptop LCD - tried everything!!? I'm trying to work on a Compaq M200 (M2310ea) the LCD screen is VERY dim when the laptop starts up, and never brightens (even with FN F8) the laptop works perfectly when hooked up to a monitor (i checked all the display settings for monitor and notebook lcd, so it's not something in there, as far as I can see) I bought a new LCD screen, that didn't improve anything. I bought a new inverter, again, no improvement. I uninstalled and reinstalled the graphics drivers... no improvement. I uninstalled and reinstalled the quick keys, to see if f8 worked, no improvement.. I'm just about at my wits end here, as the parts here are VERY expensive... does anyone here have any suggestions that I might be able to try?

Laptop Warranty.. I don't get this..? Ok, so I have a Compaq Laptop Model: Presario C700 Notebook PC I still have a 1-year Warranty on it, and I am currently trying to Replace my Battery on it. The part I don't get is that, my computer is a Compaq, but how come when I click on "HP Total Care Advisor" on my Laptop, then click on the Warranty, it brings me to this "HP" site. I just don't get the fact that my Laptop is a Compaq, but how come the Warranty is dealing with HP? The nearest HP Service Partner by me is Best Buy, so I am wondering if.. I bring my "Compaq" laptop for them to get a replacement on a new battery, would my Warranty still cover?
are dell notebooks worth while? so i have a kinda old compaq computer, that has broken. and the part to plug in and charge it is broke and the batt. is stuck, to make a long story short, its going to cost about 300$ to fix, and so i thought for that price i was thinking maybe i should just get a dell notebook? any advice? just some back ground i really dont use my computer for alot, i just normally use it for surfing the web, i watch a few web videos, like youtube and such, and a little bit of porn lol, and then i to some internet research, and then typing programs, i dont normally watch alot of dvds, so now having the dvd drive wouldnt be a big deal, and i also have a jump drive what i save all my papers on, and i could always buy the external dvd drive later if i wanted or save up money to fix my other computer later down the road, so knowing all the should i just pay to have my current laptop fixed or get a dell notebook? which would be the better option? please help!
Solution for lag in old laptop? I have an old Presario 2500 Compaq laptop(which its sides or the part with the cd-rom are not thin and its heavy to carry unlike notebook laptops) and im using a local internet connection(PDLT) that goes i think 100 mbps. the problem is, when i will play facebook applications such as restaurant city and other stuffs that is for games, it is too slow to move! the characters are very slow to move! especially in restaurant city in facebook! what will i do so that i will not experience lags anymore? p.s. if u require me to buy a new laptop, i cant afford it, so please, find me an alternative to make my laptop move faster without any costs in the internet. :D Uhm , hard drive? like the thing that is located under a laptop? i dont know man, sorry. but i have a total of 37.2 GB and 19.9 GB are used, so 17.3 are free in Local Disk C. Uhm, ok! Thanks! So what will i do or tell to the guys who will install it in a electronic shop? What should i tell them? Should i tell them that i will need to "to add more hard drive into my laptop with this PQI 1GB 200-Pin DDR SO-DIMM DDR 400 (PC 3200) Laptop Memory Model MD421GUOE" right? thanks for the help btw.
Wireless problem? ok let me be very clear: I did a REPAIR installation of windows XP for a SP1 cd. I have a compaq presario 2500. it has a few buttons, wireless button, volume + and - buttons and a mute button. The + and - buttons are responsive, and function correctly, the mute button has an orange led light and does not either respond or function. The wireless button is the same, except i followed some instructions from a tech support guy, re-installed all my drivers and used WinsockXPFix.exe. in safe mode, which was supposed to fix the problem i bring to you now...THIS IS THE IMPORTANT part. i am currently writing from the notebook in question, using an Ethernet cable, both the ethernet and the wireless light are blinking on my router, yet when it try to connect wirelessy all my browsers cannot do it, and the info on my wireless connect reads invalid ip 0.0.0.0 and the safe for the subnet mask, i did a repair, it said it failed, but the ip is now different. STILL NO CONNECTIVITY PLEASE HELP ME

What brand of PC notebooks/laptops do Singaporeans prefer? I've bought 2 Dell Inspiron 6400s and they work elegantly. Also the price is very sweet. Looking at HP/Compaq, Toshiba, NEC, Fujitsu, IBM/Lenovo and Sony, I see that there is a huge premium for the brand name alone plus I don't get the better performing parts Dell offers. oh, also like to add Acer to that long list
