What stores take in gateway laptops to get fixed? I have a gateway computer. I'm not sure what make it is, and year it was made.. Sorry, for the lack of information. My father bought it for me.. Anyways, there are so many problems with it, that I had to turn it into a desktop computer, and use a external keyboard and mouse. The part where the start-up button is, but on the other side has popped up. The keyboard barely works. Half of the keys are either not working, or the wrong letter is coming up when I type it in. Gateway Computers Tech spport - out of business? Hello. We are having troube contacting Gateway about locating a new screen for our business laptops. When you call, you have to enter the computer serial number, and it bounces you to MCN, ANC, what ever the company name is.... They went chapter 11. We have called and emailed Gateway a handfull of times and just can't get a real person on the phone. NO other companies seem ot have a replacement screen in stock. It is for an s7200c. Any one have any advice? Calling and asking for sales hasn't worked, and all the actual gatway stores i know of are out od business. What a mess....

Why are Apple computers so expensive compared to HP, Acer, Gateway, etc? I saw an Apple Macbook at The Apple Store for 1500! It only had 2 GB and 150 Memory. Yet at Best Buy you can find a laptop made by HP, Dell, Gateway, with 5 GB with much more memory for around 600-700 dollars. Why don't they sell Apples at Best Buy? If my personal desktop Gateway computer is a part of a network that is being shared by 2 other comp. w/o my ok To finish the above--my computer is apparently on a network with 2 other computers without my permission. How do I find out who/where the other 2 computers on "my network" are located. I have Limewire Pro 4.12.11 which I do not want to remove but want information on the other two computers. I plan to download music, surf the web, write papers, watch movies, and play video games, such as Starcraft, World of Warcraft, and Diablo. Gateway brand computer any good or it's worth buying it? I already know that customer service for gateway is crap and not even worth contacting it, but the things which I am desperate to know if gateway laptop are good as good as toshiba and hp or even sonny those brands are fantastic I heard. But the think is that when I was at the store the people there in future shop told me that the best brand to store up music and watch movies is gateway although I never in my life had any laptop but my family had HP computer that after 5 years is still working like it's new I even don't know what to think of. Blue Screen but different from other cases i have heard? I have a gateway computer and it has had a blue screen for about 2 weeks now, nothing else, i have another computer so its not terrible but the laptop is a much better computer so i'd like to get it back so here is the story Everytime i turn on my computer the screen is blue, no text, not even the screen that shows Windows Xp with the bars going across, is there some way i can fix this or should i jsut take it into a computer store, i can hear the system start up and the sound that the computer makes when it goes into windows, it seems like the only problem is the screen wont work, what should i do?

I bought a Gateway notebook and it doesn't come with the system recovery dvd? The seller at the store told me that the system recovery comes inside with the computer already. But I don't get it. This is the first time that i get a notebook, and whenever I've gotten desktop computers they do come with the recovery cd or dvd. hooking up my vhs player to my gateway? ok I have a Akai tv with a bulit in dvd player and VCR its not an HD or plasma tv i bought it like 4 years ago. how do i get microsoft word back on my computer? i had a lot of documents on word when my hard drive crapped out...it was under warranty, the store backed up my computer and put in a new hard drive.....now all my documents are on work pad!....i'm 99.9% positive word was installed on my computer when i bought it, yet the store tells me i need the disc or the key number...it's a gateway computer.. if the store backed up my computer before installing a new hard drive, why didn't my documents come out on word???...i'm pretty confused.

Are more and more PC manufacturers going to lesser wattage power supplies? Why? How much is enough? I've been looking at new computers and accompanying video cards at retail stores. The computer I have now has a 750w or 1000w (I'm not sure which) and most new computers (like the ones on HP's website) have lesser wattage power supplies (about 460W). When you are buying a new computer, how much wattage is enough for decent "performance" components. NOTE: I'm not building it myself, I'm talking about retail computers (Dell, HP, Gateway).

I have a Gateway Computer running Vista and it has a 2nd partition with full system recovery software.? I have a Gateway Computer running Vista and it has a 2nd partition with full system recovery software by PC Angel. I was attempting to do a full system restore and didn't realize I simply had to press F10 during boot and select the recovery option. Instead I inserted the CD that came with the computer labeled "Gateway Microsoft Windows Vista Home 32 bit Operating System Disc" and it also says in finer print "Use this disc to re-install your operating system". Now I have stock Vista with no preinstalled software. The partition is still in tact I just can't figure out how to run the recovery from the Hard drive. What I would like to do is recover this computer back to it's original state, how it came from the store, with Vista and all the Gateway software preloaded with the PC Angel partition accessible again incase of a need to use it in the future.

Laptop battery "gateway brand"? I just bought a laptop (gateway with about more than 500 gb). And the charge of battery is only 2hr. 30 minutes (which is not enough for a new computer). The laptop works well and stuffs, everything is good except the battery life that is only 2 hours which is not enough for me to go to school and do assignments (plus I don't want to plug on the charger whereever I sit, I just want to study and worry about the battery). I always use safe mode -power safer mode for the laptop but it's still only 2 hours. Computer works only for about 2 hours even less than it dies, totally dies while being on power safer!!!! Very very weird action to a brand new computer. When I bough the computer the sales associate at the store didn't tell me that my computer has only 2 hours, because if I knew I would definetely bought Sony Vaio laptop which was cheapter, lighter but not with as much features as my gateway computer has. I know that I wouldn't need to buy a reachargeable or just a replacement battery for my laptop even after 1 or 2 years, because my computer is in good conditions. But I am very very unhappy with the spand of my battery in my computer. By the way my computer has only 5 or 6 cell lithioum battery but after the time I want to buy way better computer that could hold about 3 or 4 hours of life. Also is it possible to buy a better battery for laptop than you already have (which is already have been shipped included with my battery).

Why does my Gateway computer beeps when my charger is plugged? Hi everyone, well I have this problem with my Gateway laptop NV59. The computer had always been ok but then the original charger broke (the cord got broken after a year of use) so I got a charger that's supposed to be Acer's original charger and it worked the first night then the next day after a while it would start making noises like beeps and it got plugged and unplugged itself (I could see in the task bar it wasn't charging then it was and then it wasn't on and off) without even moving the computer or the charger, so I went to the store and got another charger, same model just another device last monday 12nd and it had been working well till yesterday it started making these noises but less often and tonight while i was watching a movie it happened again, it started beeping (it's the same noise it used to make when u plug/unplug the charger from the computer) and it stops/starts charging. I don't really know what could be wrong with my computer, because it happens after awhile, not right after u plug it and i've already changed charger and it happens again. I'm scared and I dont know what to do anymore, has anyone else had this problem before or knows what i'm talking about? Please, please help me. They've charged up about $78,000 work of stuff that we know about ranging from platinum cards from Chase to Gateway computers, Cingular Wireless accounts, Home Depot and Nordstrom charge accounts. The only way my grandma and dad found out about this is that several collection and credit companies were harassing her about accounts she's never heard of. She's 84 and senile. I had no idea until I got back that I am also being pursued for these debts. My credit is in shambles now, but it was PRISTINE before all of this. Gateway Laptop... Help Please?!? Ok well I have a gateway laptop and it has windows vista. It has trouble booting up and it keeps hanging on the black screen after the bar loads. Problem with Gateway MX6027 Drivers. Linksys wag200g installed on dell e520,dell network assistant expired and i cannot access gateway control.? when i installed the linksys gateway i took the option of leaving the wireless option switched off. now i want to switch it on as i have finally got a wireless card (linksys) for my ancient laptop (dell 7000). i cannot find any files on my computer called linksys so i'm afraid that the network/gateway settings are only stored in dell network assistant and that i will lose them if i remove it, rather than give dell or whoever $40 to continue.

P4 computer freezes/locks up after about 1-30 minutes every time.? Hokay, so my girlfriend has had this Gateway computer for the longest time that has been working fine running XP, but for the past couple of months it has been freezing/locking up nonstop. She had me format it a while back and it fixed it for about an hour and now its even worse! Its a P4 1.6Ghz socket 478 with 256 MB of DDR 266 ram. As crappy as that is, I recently decided that I would get to the bottom of this problem for her because she needs a computer. First thing we played around with it and watched it crash a couple of times and attempted to format it with Linux but it wouldn't even let us get to the first screen haha. Next we cleaned out all of the dust in the computer, fans, heat sink, etc. still didn't help. Then we took a stop at a local computer store to buy a new faster CPU for it. We got a P4 2.0 Ghz. (Not much faster but it would eliminate the possibility of it being a CPU problem and gain some speed in the process.. Plus it was cheap) then we took a stop at another store to pick up a stick of DDR 266 512 MB ram. (also not much more but still eliminates if it may be freezing due to lack of ram) So we installed everything and blablabla. I would like to point out that getting the CPU off of the heatsink was a serious pain. I think gateway used thermal glue instead of grease? I really have no idea. I used a screw driver and ended up prying off the bottom half of the CPU. So now I have the top half of the cpu glued to this stupid metal heat sink. I literally had no choice but to use a tile grout scraper and use all of my strength just to remove it. Afterwords the leftover thermal stuff wouldn't come off with rubbing alcohol so I had to scrape it some more with the tile scraper. After replacing it and adding the ram we turned it on, gave it another format, this time into the XFCE version of Linux Mint 6, (simply because of the amazingly low amount of CPU and RAM it requires to run the OS) It worked for a while (longer than before) then yet again froze. I then, hoping it could be true, decided to grab a new power supply from my sisters Alienware and switch them out because I heard in rare cases power supply's could, after a lot of use, cause freezing. still froze after a little bit of use. I even went in and disabled everything that was not in use and unplugged the floppy drive and USBs and removed the 56k modem that was not in use to make sure nothing was interfering. Still froze. So basically it is narrowed down the either the hard drive, video card (which is a really old Nvidia Geforce 2 or something like that (I know it has a 2 in it), or the motherboard. I dont think it is the hard drive because it doesnt really crash when I am transferring files or anything like that, and plus it locked up once when I was in the live CD version of Linux which had nothing to do with the hard drive, and it even locked up in the Bios once when I was disabling stuff. Just to make sure I ran the long test with Seagate Seatools and it crashed in the middle of it so I decided to take the hard drive out and run the test from my computer. It ran the entire test without any problems and passed. I then took out the hard drive from my computer that I know works and put it in her computer. My goal was to see it crash with a hard drive that I know works to hopefully eliminate that possibility. It did crash. I do not know if that's a good enough test to eliminate the hard drive possibility but it seems pretty logical to me. I'm not sure, but I doubt it is the video card. I guess it is possible? Can it cause freezes? So I think the mobo must have something wrong with it. I looked at it, up and down to see if any capacitors might be blown or leaking and I don't see anything. Either way it just seems like the only logical answer to me so I looked up the motherboard to see what kind of price we are looking at. http://search.pricewatch.com/motherboards/socket_478_video-0.htm Its the one on the top. Do you think it would be the right choice to purchase that or is there a better one? Also, do you think it could be the video card or the hard drive? Or even something else? I mean, I don't want to replace the motherboard for nothing.. I want to see if there are any other possibilities. No, we are not buying a new computer. We are already this far in fixing this one and refuse to give up. These computer parts are really cheap anyway.. Also, how common is it for the CPUs to be that hard to remove from the heat sink? I bought a used Gateway computer, and the hard drive was wiped clean. Is there a way to recover Windows XP?? I heard from someone that I could somehow order a Windows recovery disk from Gateway. The system originally had XP home, and the Windows XP sticker is still on the back. The previous owner was a retail store, so they had to wipe the hard drive clean, and they don't have any recovery discs with it. Am I still allowed to use that copy of Windows? Sound Driver problem on gateway mx6450 laptop.? My computer stopped working so I took it to a local computer store where they found out that my memory sticks were corupted. They replaced them and wiped my computer. Everything works fine now except my sound. Theres something wrong with the sound driver. Getting Files back from a computer that has been completley restored? Is it possiable? Is it possiable to get files back on my computer that were on there before it crashed and had to be restored? I had tons of things that I did not have backed up and would like to know if this is possiable. A friend told me that everything you do on your computer is stored in your hard drive and that the old files should still be there even though I've done a complete recovery on my computer. Gateway PSU restriction? I have a store purchased gateway system (GT series, 64 x2 6000+). I wanted to purchase a graphics card (presently using integrated video), but they all seem to require a 350-450 watt psu; My psu is 300 watts. I called gateway to try and order a larger psu and was told that anything larger would fry the computer and they advised against it. Does this mean I'm limited to a very small graphics card (83-8500 ish)? Would a card that small even be worth purchasing? Installed Windows Xp, lost sound. How do I get it back? What happened? Help!!! Thank you for any help.? Upgraded windows 98 with Windows XP. Lost sound on computer. Actually this has happen to 2 computers..... Same thing happened on my other computer but did not think it was permanent. Thought I got it fixed and sound came back. BUT, now I don't know. I got another computer and ... stored the Emachine. NOW..... as it turns out.... Can not get sound on either the one I have now (Dell OptiPlex GX200 - Windows 2000 Professional - off of lease) does not have sound board (so the system printout says any way) it appears/bought off internet ... 2000 Professional major storage, etc....but apparently does not have a sound board. I guess that is possible as when I worked for the STATE we did not have sound on our computers. The GATEWAY ... one that was just downloaded with Windows XP...so maybe not. Both computers were downloaded with Windows XP and lost sound on both. The Gateway and the other Emachine computers both lost sound when upgrading from Windows 98 to Windows.

I have an old computer I gave to my son but I cannot remember the password. what can I do to bypass the system The computer is an older model Sony Gateway but I have Windows XP installed on it now. The computer was stored for about 7 or 8 months when my son decided that he wanted it. But now the only problem is that he is unable to do any kind of administrative activity such as application installs, maintainence, and other such personal preferences. Even though I left a password hint for myself which was, "My last one"- (that's the hint)- My last one. I cant for the life of me figure out what my last one was, is, or ought to be. I've tried everything that I can think of to figure out what my last one could possibly mean but haven't a clue? Please help, I'm sure there has to be some way of over-riding the system.

Finding webcam software for Gateway? I bought a Gateway M-Series that has a built in webcam. The computer was a demo in the store so some of the software was not on it. How can I find and download the software that I need?
