Gateway 3400 desktop with Windows 2000 Professional. Is there a way to connect to wireless? I have several laptops and recently acquired a Gateway E3400 desktop with windows 2000 professional installed on it. I have 2 brand new laptops with windows 7 installed on them. I also have a laptop with windows vista installed. All three of these computers are connected to my wireless internet by a wireless router. I have turbo wireless from cable. I use my laptops for streaming videos and Facebook. I was hoping to use my desktop for personal records and such and going to college online this fall. I have been researching information how to connect the desktop to the router. Will I have to upgrade the windows or can I just install an OS like Linux? I am going to buy a wireless usb antenna to connect the desktop? But will I need anything else. I have the desktop already set up ready to go. The computer works beautifully and it relatively fast for an older computer. I have an older Mac that takes about an hour to load onto another site. The Gateway is a good computer despite it's age. I appreciate any help. Thanks

I would like to be able to use the laptop while hubby is using the desktop.

How do I work wirelessly on a used Gateway Solo 9500 laptop with windows 2000 professional? I bought a Netgear router... do I also need a Wireless Adapter for the old laptop? I want my family to be able to access the internet with both a desktop computer and the used laptop at the same time. Should there be some kind of wireless file or program on my computer also? The box the Wireless Router came in says... "Maximum performance requires use with RangeMax Wireless Adapters"... then there are 3 listed. One is a PC Card... the second is a PCI Adapter... the third is a USB 2.0 Adapter. How do I know if any of these will be compatable with my old laptop?

Windows XP Reboot Problem? So, I have an old Gateway 2000 laptop circa 2001. It was running on XP with all the security packs installed. One day, the computer went into this weird loop where it will load right up to the screen with the WinXP logo and the moving bar underneath. Then it will flash black and reboot again. I've tried to fix the problem in safe mode to no avail. I even brought it in to a repair shop and they told me I needed a new harddrive. I bought a new hard drive, but it still does the same thing. I even tried running Ubuntu off a CD just to see what would happen, but it reboots right when the desktop is about to appear. I've seen tons of people talk about this issue, but no one seems to have resolved it. Any ideas?
vista and office 2000? 4 year old gateway laptop won't accept office 2000 updates. Installed new drive, then installed vista from the gateway disk that came with the computer. then I installed all the vista updates before I started to install office. Office loaded just fine but when I tried to add the updates they were rejected. I have done this a few times before successfully. does the order matter when installing onto a new drive. also I started to do this when I occasionally got a blue screen when i was running youtube, since nothing else seemed amiss I thought that I may have picked up a virus even though I use Kaspersky. I have resorted to open office now. does anybody have any diagnostic suggestions?? thank you Mike

Is a Macintosh (iMac) the answer? I'm tired of computers messing up... these dANg <$700 comps from wal-mart or my $2000 laptop from gateway... its getting old the way some people talk about macs is that you won't have any problems with them, it sounds magically... I also would like to hear any horror stories where a mac messed up on you...
DNS/Gateway selective assignment by DHCP based on MAC? The situation in brief: Two buildings connected with wireless bridges. Each building having its own adsl modem for internet access. MACs known for desktop computers. MACs unknown for visitors with laptops who need internet access through the modem of the building they are into connected wirelessly to the WAP of the particular building. One subnet. No domain. Can the dhcp service of MS windows 2000 server offer IP/Subnet Mask/DNS/Gateway to a client based on that client’s MAC address, for known or/and unknown MAC addresses, for combinations of DNS/Gateway? Is a setup/configuration of W2K server DHCP+WAP possible in order to determine the location (building) of an unknown MAC (visitor’s laptop) so it will be connected to the proper modem? Is it possible to have a DHCP server in each building covering both buildings for redundancy? For example: Server 1: Range A of IPs based on MACs for the desktops and DNS/Gateway according to the building. Range B of IPs for unknown MACs for the laptops based on the WAP the laptops connect to the network for determining the building and subsequently the DNS/Gateway required. Server 2: Range A of IPs based on MACs for the desktops and DNS/Gateway according to the building. Range C of IPs for unknown MACs for the laptops based on the WAP the laptops connect to the network for determining the building and subsequently the DNS/Gateway required. Is not important which DHCP server assigns the IP/Subnet Mask/DNS/Gateway as long as the users are connected to the proper modem and if one server goes down the other can take over. Thank you.
Which student Laptop to buy on a 2000$ Quebec Student Financial Aid? note does not have to be 2000$ thats just the maximum and its a loan. i want to buy a student laptop, i want it to be light, i want it to be cheap, i want it to last, i want it to have at least 1gb of memory, i want to be able to play at least some video games on it, also i want it to have that nice integrated mouse that is smooth to the touch and not rough. would like it to be tablet but thats too expensive... i am thinking about this one in order of preference... http://www.bestbuy.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?sku_id=0926INGFS10125658&catid=28597&PCName=laptop_499_under&logon=&langid=EN Gateway 11.6" Netbook featuring AMD Athlon 64 L110 (LT31) - Red 399.99$ http://www.bestbuy.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?sku_id=0926INGFS10118036&catid=20354&PCName=laptop_499_under&logon=&langid=EN E-Machines 14.1" Laptop featuring AMD Athlon 2650e (eMD620-5355) 399.99 http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?logon=&langid=EN&sku_id=0665000FS10125656&catid=25317 HP Touchsmart 12.1" AMD Turion X2 RM-74 Dual-Core Mobile 2.2GHz Laptop (TX2-1224CA) $999.99 which laptop should i buy and why the last one i was going to buy but i think writing on paper is much more appropriate than on a laptop it seems too hard to do(i've tried it once)... maybe i could just scan my notes or something that would be cheaper... i loose them alot since i am somewhat disorganized with my notes... and with a computer i thought i could keep them all in one nice place... any other recommendations.. also i am currently on the Quebec 2000$ loan program for laptops which i have no idea if that includes notebooks(i thought they were the same) ... if anyone can answer that question macbooks don't work with the programs(including ones for my education) and video games that i need the laptop for and they are just way too expensive double the price as a comparable PC yes the macbook refurbished seems nice but its a little on the expensive side and does it work with windows properly? and i had problems with refurbished computers before with the screen so thats out of the question!!! macs also does not work with programs like windows does!!! i heard you could dual boot with intel chip somewhere that could work???
How to change a blank default gateway and DNA Suffix? I have a dell Latitude laptop running on Windows 2000. I was connected to the internet through a wireless connection until the other day. Today, I tried opening up my internet but it said a connection could not be found, all though my wireless conection was excellent. I decided to troubleshoot and found that I didn't have a default gateway nor a DNA Suffix, whatever those are. I have another Laptop exactly the same in every think and found that it had the default gateway and DNA Suffix. This computer was working through wireless connection perfectly. I was wondering if the default gateway and DNA Suffix would be the same on both computers? If so, how could I change the default gateway and DNA Suffix on the non- working computer? If I can't use the the same default gateway and DNA Suffix, then what would I use? nope, I own my connection, its password protected.

How can I fix my Gateway MD7820u laptop? Hi all, I cannot go past the login screen on my 2-year old Gateway MD7820u. Safe Mode, Safe Mode with Networking and Safe Mode with Command Prompt don't do anything, they just go into the "Loading Windows Files" screen but never actually into Safe Mode. It just reboots back to the login screen. When I enter my password under my username in the login screen, the computer will freeze up and the furthest it'll go is to say "Welcome", but I won't see my desktop. This has happened once before, and Gateway told me to do a System Recovery - that worked last time, but it won't work this time. Instead, I receive this message: Pre-bot eXecution Environment (PXE_ v2.1 © Copright 1997-2000 Intel Corp. PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable PXE-M0F: Exiting PXE ROM. Operating System not found I've tried entering the bios and detecting the hdd (as suggested here) but my laptop just loudly beeps at me in return. Thank you for your time and help. ~Connie
Need to change resolution in Windows 3.0? I need to change the resolution in Windows 3.0. I cannot change it by using the setup command. The setup command will not let me change the options that I want to change. And please, do not tell me to use the setup command! How can I change the resolution without using the setup command? I have Windows 3.0, with a Gateway 2000 SOLO Series laptop. Also: How can I access Gateway 2000 SOLO Series BIOS? (Pressing FN+ESC only gets me the basic setup) Thank you for your time and help. My laptop is compatible with Windows 3.0, (running with plenty of RAM for Windows 3.0 and plenty of HD space with a 90MHz processor) I believe its displaying in 640x(whateveritis) and I would like to change it to 800x600 so it fills my screen. Thank you for your time and help, from TS2, the Computer Expert. I know I have Windows 3.0, and I know its old. Please don't post "Get XP" or "Get 95" or anything like that, since Windows 3.0 is all my computer seems to be capable of running!
How can I see documents from other users on the same computer? So, I found this realllllyyyy old laptop of mine. I remember I have some of my old stories on there, unfortunately I was a sneaky little girl and had created three different users on my computer. I also had created passwords for two of them. On the one that I didn't make a password on, I can't seem to see any of the documents from the others. I really want to read the stories I wrote, but Windows 98 is smarter than me. So, if you know how to do this, please help. By the way, the computer is a Gateway 2000 and it has Windows 98, if that matters.

I wiped put my Gateway pc because I got locked out and put my Dell laptop Vista software on it. Is this ok? I changed my domain to a workgroup and got locked out my computer. I did not back up anything. I was able to get in with a boot disk for my Gateway Comp and save a few things. I did not have any of the orginal software that came with the pc and I ordered the orginal software for it (Windows 2000 Pro SP4) and it wiped out everything on the comp but my computer looked really weird like I was in boot mode and I did not have drivers, MS Office and all that other stuff. So, I used my Dell laptop Vista sofware, MS Office, Drivers and put it on the pc and it looks great except the windows are a little small and eeverything says Dell. The connection is a little slow and now it is saying that my Vista product key is incorrect. I already bought the original OS for the comp but ir did not include everything I need and it made the screen and windows look weird. Waht do I need to buy besides a new product key to make this pc work well? Also should I expect problems for having Dell laptop Software on a Gateway PC that Gateway does not make or support anymore? Thank you!
How do I connect a Windows 2000 PC wirelessly? I have an old computer that I'm using to run my home security cameras, and I need it to connect to the internet if I want to be able to access my cameras remotely. This PC is so old that it does not even have an ethernet port on the mobo, so I cannot connect with cat5 (unless I want to buy extra equipment, which I don't). I have a Linksys WUSB54G v4 Wireless Network Adapter that I have connected to the computer. I've also already downloaded the proper drivers and moved them to the PC. The problem is that I can connect to the router with the PC, but the computer still is not receiving internet access. I have disabled all security for the time being on the router as well. Currently I have the network connection set to obtain IP address and DNS server automatically. Whenever Internet Explorer is opened it gives me the cannot find page screen and says at the bottom of the page "Cannot find server or DNS error". Whenever I try to ping a website I get an "Unknown host" error. Here is a copy of ipconfig /all from the cmd prompt: Windows 2000 IP Configuration Host Name.......:b8v6t6 Primary DNS Suffix.......: Node Type.......:Broadcast IP Routing Enabled.......:No WINS Proxy Enabled.......:No Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection 2: Connection-Specific DNS Suffix.......: Description.......:Linksys Wireless-G USB Network Adapter Physical Address.......:00-12-17-67-69-81 DHCP Enabled.......:Yes Autoconfiguration Enabled.......:Yes Autoconfiguration IP Address.......:169.254.148.230 Subnet Mask.......:255.255.0.0 Default Gateway.......: DNS Servers.......: Any help getting this configured properly would be appreciated. Also it should be noted that I have no problem with my more up to date laptops and PCs throughout the house. Yes I can see my router in the list, and even connect to it, but I have no internet connectivity. To the person who seems to think I have a router, not a USB adapter, maybe you should do your research a little more because its definitely not a router, I've used it on other computers. To continue, the person who thinks I need to install the drivers, if you had comprehended more than the first few sentences you'd know I have already installed the drivers. And no I should not upgrade a more-than-a-decade old computer to XP when its only going to be used for a single task. To the gentleman (or gentlewoman) actually attempting to help me, thank you. All MAC filtering is turned off, and I'm fairly certain the DHCP pool is fine. I'm going to try assigning the IP and DNS (prolly use google's) manually tomorrow. I'm fairly certain that its something wrong on the computer end (gut feeling), but it could also be that my router just doesn't support Windows 2000 (seems unlikely though). Windows 2000 doesn't have native support for wireless, but I know its possible to do it.
Need a new computer. Which one would you recommend? I will probably be purchasing another small computer. I have a HP WIN/7 laptop that is about 9 months old. I also have a larger Acer WIN/Vista laptop which is very heavy to carry around. I don't like carrying around the Acer because last June the laptop fell on my foot and broke it! I also have a Gateway WIN/2000 OS which is a very good desktop computer for business use. I had a small Dell netbook that I returned to the store about 2 months ago. It kept on crashing and I finally had enough and returned it. I like the smaller laptops that are light. I can't afford a Apple computer but I know that they are by far the best computer out there. I have also been considering buying an Apple IPad just for browsing the web. I suffered a bad knee sprain this past month so I'm kind of laid up right now. I have been doing family tax returns and earned money doing it. I thought I take the little bit of extra money that I earned and get a good little netbook or IPad. Thanks for any help.

Sims 2 Nightlife Keeps Closing? I had the game for about 3 1/2 years now and had no problems with it on my old gateway computer. My gateway computer crashed a year and a half ago so I had no computer for that long. But just recently I got a new laptop, It's an Acer. It has Windows 7 and an Intel Hardrive or something like that. The computer works just fine and has plenty of space on it. (about 288 gb out of 300 gb). I re installed the Sims 2 and Sims 2 Nightlife onto that laptop. I never had any problems with my sims ever crashing but now, it unexpectically closes down on me! It's at random too so I have SS now (Saving Syndrome lol) so i constantly save my game because I do not know when it's gonna close down on me. The last time it happened was this morning about an hour ago. I save my game like every 3 mins and i'm tired of saving it constantly and worrying about it crashing on me or not. What's wrong with my game? Is it because the game is old? I doubt it because I have the Sims Deluxe Edition (the original sims, not sims 2) on my old gateway before it crashed and died on me, and it worked fine! That game was from like 2000 or 2001 and my gateway was a 2005 model. Other info: * I did not download any custom content at all * I had to install Sims 2 about 5 times (because it kept freezing on the Support file part) * I had to install Sims 2 Nightlife about 3 times (it kept freezing on 49%, the sound package) Any suggestions are welcomed!!! ~Michelle Fujiwari =)
Help me network a small office? You have just been contracted by a small business to network their computers. They have recently had the local cable company install a cable modem. There is an RG6 cable going to a cable modem which is powered up, nothing else is connected. The cable company left the following info: IP 68.12.16.5 Gateway 68.12.16.6 Subnet Mask 255.255.255.252 DNS1 68.12.12.1 DNS2 68.12.11.1 The business has 6 desktop computers and 2 laptops. All of the computers are running either XP Pro, XP Home, or Windows 2000 Pro. Four of the desktops have motherboards with integrated 10/100 Ethernet cards installed; two of the desktops have no network cards. The laptops have both 10/100 Ethernet connections and integrated Wireless 802.11g. The desktop computers will be stationary and a steady, reliable Internet connection is very important. The business would like the laptops to have the ability to move about their small facility and be able to access the Internet without connecting wires. 1.Determine what equipment you will need to buy, who you will buy it from, and the cost. 2.explain how all equipment and existing computers will be interconnected. 3.Explain how you will configure the equipment. Make reference to Public/Private IPs, WAN/LAN, and static/dynamic in your writeup. 4.Once everything is operational, what info do you expect to see when typing IPCONFIG at the command prompt? Mac vs. PC???? I've been using PC computers for all my life (2000, XP, Vista). But I've seen these new Mac's, and I don't know whether to get a new Mac laptop or a Vista laptop. Can someone please tell me which one I should get? Choices: White MacBook OS X laptop, or Gateway Windows Vista PC laptop? Which one????
Computer sound troubles!? I have a gateway laptop (Not sure what model, but it has a load of DVD option buttons on the left-hand side.) And it refuses to make any sound. I've checked the machine's Sound and hardware options on the Controll panel, but it claims there's no audio hardware connected to it, even though it still has the audio Codecs, Media controll devices, and Legacy Codecs! Plus, this damn thing has speakers BUILT INTO IT. I have plugged headsets into it, and still I get no sound! Please help! Another issue I'm having is this computer's outright refusal to download virus protection programs. AVG will say that I'm using windows 2000 in the troubleshooter, and microsoft essentials flatout stops loading! What do I do!? Computer is a gateway M505B2, running windows XP, it was given by a friend as a sort of hand-me-down.

Help with Window XP upgrade? I have a Gateway Solo 9600 laptop. It runs on Windows 2000 NT. I have the ability to upgrade it to Windows XP Professional. This laptop has a 60gb hard drive, 512 mb ram (max I can upgrade to), and is a Pentium 3. Will XP run on this computer? Thanks in advance for your help.
which computer do you think i could get for under $400 on black friday/cyber monday 2011? I need help from someone who knows something about computers. I am not technologically inclined. I am a school teacher who will use the laptop for work and play. I want something that will do a little of everything, and do it fast and well. I currently have a pc that was an xmas gift in 2004 so i am well overdue for an upgrade. I am not a big gamer or number cruncher. I don't need my computer to do all kinds of unusual things, but I want it to be able to have enough memory for me to install software programs like dragon. Here is my top 10 list in no particular order- these were recommended by pc world. If you know of any others that are good, please share. I don't have a lot of money to spend $2000 on a computer, and I will need to be buying a printer/scanner also, so that's why it can't cost a lot. If you think $400 is too low, then let me know how much I should be looking to pay if the laptop is on sale- what would be the top price I should pay for the computer, and it still be reasonable and a good deal? Can this computer run Rome: Total War? hey denizens of yahoo answers! So i'm here at college and bored and all of the sudden I thought 'hey i wonder if this computer of mine here can run Rome: Total War, I love that game.' But you see it's not simple like me checking system requirements to see if I'm compatible, my computer is a Gateway Model 310-X, a laptop, it runs Vista (i know, plz don't give me shit, it came standard). So I don't know if my graphics are up to par, I'd think so b/c this rig can run Vista without hiccups which my usual desktop that runs R:TW can't do. So here's the question: A) Does anyone know if my rig is good enough to run rome and B) Rome says it takes 98/XP/2000 will Vista run it still? I remember hearing stuff about Vista not running a bunch of programs. Please help, I'm bored :P Hook 'em :)
How do I enable the "daul monitor" feature on my computer? I'm using Windows XP Media Edition and I've just gotten my hands on an old school (not flat panel) monitor (Gateway 2000 EV500) and I'm trying to see if I can enable it. At my work its easy for me to do it in the same process most websites show, but on this old laptop I can't. Under settings for my desktop it does not show what the comptuers at my job show - simply that its on default and so only one monitor. no option to change it. can someone help me out?
Is this a good computer for rendering HD videos in Sony Vegas? i make youtube videos in HD using sony vegas. my laptop sucks for doing this so i'm looking to buy a new computer. would a computer with 2nd Gen Intel® Core™ i5-2320 processor Features a 6MB cache and a 3.0GHz processor speed with Turbo Boost up to 3.3GHz. and 8GB DDR3 memory For multitasking power, expandable to 16GB. be good enough to render a 8 minute video in about 30 minutes? also, i dont know much about computers so sorry for this question if its obvious to you computer people out there- my laptop doesn't even let me watch my videos in sony vegas until i've completely rendered them, even in the worst playback settings. does the graphics card determine that? ive been looking it up and im confused because i get lost with all those huge bunches of letters and numbers that determine things. and if the graphics card does determine that, would a Intel® HD Graphics 2000 let me still watch my videos after ive edited them before rendering? thanks a lot to whoever answers. if that wasnt enough info, here is the link to the computer: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Gateway+-+Desktop+/+Intel%26%23174%3B+Core%26%23153%3B+i5+Processor+/+8GB+Memory+/+1TB+Hard+Drive/3155928.p?id=1218380518359&skuId=3155928 one last thing, sorry, what would be an ok monitor for this under 100$ because it doesnt come with one. thanks a bunch to whoever took the time to read all this and reply :)
Need a new PC. My old one failed on me.? I had a gateway mt3400 series laptop, and first within the first year, the hard drive was "fried" as my computer guy put it. It was replaced as it was under warranty, and now, about 3-4 months later, the WHOLE THING fried. I had recently installed new ram, so that might've had something to do with it. But its whatever. I need a durable laptop that WILL NOT fail on me as I am 14 and I save up to purchase my own stuff. that last laptop was $700 and I want something that can handle monster video editing in Sony Vegas, but that also can handle gaming with games like Need For Speed Undercover or Combat Arms. I also have an iPod, so it has to have storage for my stuff. I would like it to be under $2000 and NOT a gateway or apple.
I also own my internet connection and have not been connecting to a different connecetion.

Why can't I play the Sims 2 Deluxe on my laptop? Question: Why can't I play the Sims 2 Deluxe on my laptop? Reason for Confusion: I seem to have more than enough space, but it just won't work. Details: My laptop is a Gateway Windows Vista, the model that only comes in red. It is fairly new (2007-2008 model) and has 162GB (out of 221GB hard disk) and 3.24GB of memory. The Sims 2 Deluxe (my game) always says that it is using up only 4GB, but that it has no more free space (i.e., I can't save families or changes etc). Deleting things doesn't help, and I have already installed 4GB of RAM. The official system requirements for my game are listed below and all comply with my computer (as far as I know, and I'm no computer whiz) HELP!! Sims 2 Deluxe System Requirements: If you have a T&L capable video card with at least 32 MB of video RAM then you need at least: 800 MHz processor or better 256 MB RAM if Windows Vista, XP, Windows ME, Windows 98 or Windows 2000 At least 3.5 GB of hard drive space If you have a non-T&L capable video card (an Intel Extreme Graphics or a Radeon 7000/VE Series) then you need at least: 2.0 GHz processor or better 256 MB RAM if Windows Vista, XP, Windows ME, Windows 98, or Windows 2000 At least 3.5 GB of hard drive space (PS: I don't really understand the above, so if you could translate with your answer that would be great!) Should I buy a MacBook 15 pro or HP envy? Okay. Right now I am a freshman and I am planning on buying a high end laptop. It has to last me through college. I am willing to spend up to $2000 if it will be worth it. I do not do very much gaming, I will mostly be web browsing, music editing, making documents, etc. I am leaning toward a MacBook pro. The battery life and quality in build is very appealing to me. However the low price tag of the HP envy provides a tough choice. I am currently using a Dell desktop and I haven't been crazy about using windows. With all my experiences, everytime I use any computer other than Mac I experience problems. I have used atop notch sony vaio, gateway, and the best HP desktop money can buy and they still have annoying and frustrating problems. If the envy will not have many problems I will strongly consider it. If you can help that would be great. Please don't start talking specs because that's not what I'm interested in. Please answer if you've had good or bad experiences with either of these computers. Thanks
What's a good laptop for CS major? i'm going off to college next year, and gonna be majoring in computer science, and need a good laptop to go with that. obviously i need to be able to program on it i plan to take notes on it (instead of on paper) i do a little graphic design work i do some video and sound editing, mostly as a hobby i'd like to be able to dual boot with ubuntu or some other linux distro i'm thinking about some 3d design/animation, again mostly as a hobby i'd like to be able to play games on it. mostly wow and half life 2 right now, as well as a bunch of older games, but i'm not limiting myself to that for whatever reason, my laptops get pretty beat up really quick, so it should be pretty rugged. i need some decent battery life. so i need an all-around pretty good laptop, that will stand up to a lot of abuse, that doesn't need to be constantly plugged in. i'm not especially partial to any brand. i've usually had pretty good luck with sony vaios, or gateways, but i'm not gonna limit myself to that. a mac would be nice, but i'd like to have windows and linux as well and a triple boot feels like it might be pushing it. i'd also like to be able to upgrade to windows 7 later on. and i'd like to not spend too much more than about 2000, ideally less, after all, i'm gonna be a poor college student who lives off ramen noodles. any suggestions?

Would this computer: http://www.futureshop.ca/en-CA/product/gateway-gateway-15-6-intel-core-i3-370m-laptop-nv5942u-black-nv5942u/10158890.aspx?lang=en-CA&pcname=&sku=10158890 (specs are at the bottom) Be able to play this game: http://fiesta.outspark.com/guides/system-requirements Without freezing and/or overheating? Backstory: I'm not an avid PC gamer so I'm not looking for a top of the line gaming computer, I do however want a laptop that can play a game from 2007 without any problems. My current laptop isn't strong enough to play it, it would either freeze or overheat whenever I played but I ended up leveling up 20something levels anyway. Until I got fed up with it. (I had to have a fan next to my computer when I played, I also had to downgrade all the vista graphical settings.. Meaning I had to change the skin to Windows 2000. :|) Anyways I want a laptop that can play that game without problems..

Mine looked brand spanking new. Very fast, the battery does last only 1 1/2 hours, but I got an extra battery for $65 on eBay used and it works nicely. Came with Vista, but I put WinXP on mine and found all the drivers on the internet. The construction is very sturdy hard plastic, none of the cheap flimsy stuff. Overall the value is great, it feels and looks more durable than laptops of the past, and is fast. Great buy. REVIEW BY: Rick M. Reviewed Aug 07, 2008 I bought this laptop a week ago.and received it Wednesday. Excellent condition, I would have thougt I just picked it up at a store. My only problem was when I allowed Norton Internet Security to load (60 day trial)and then brought up the internet, half way through loading, the system locked up. The only way to free it up was to manualy power down. I unistalled Norton and installed AVG Free. NO more problems !!!! This is a very fast easy to use laptop with all the bells and whistles. Also very fast shipping,3 days. VERY HAPPY REVIEW BY: fraqtured Reviewed Aug 06, 2008 i bought the T1625 which is essentially the same specs as this, and wanted to input the impression i drew from the t1625. first off, great price, amazing features, and with a laptop cooler running $40 dollars for a middle of the road model, this laptop will run cool [the only complaint i have found on these was the heat] and you will have picked yourself up a top with features running in some cases nearly twice as much in price of a non refurbs, which will only be the refurbs of tomorrow. run all the updates through gateway, and do a clean reinstall and pertition reformat when you unpack, it, it will take a little bit of time, but will point you in a much faster direction. this laptop is highly recomended in my opinion. REVIEW BY: Reviewed Aug 05, 2008 This is my first purchase from TD.com, and I'm very satisfied with it. The Turion 64 dualcore processor and the 2GB of RAM make short work of everything I throw at it; I have Pidgin (my IM client), Firefox (with 3 tabs open, including YouTube), LimeWire, and uTorrent all running at the same time and there is absolutely no slowdown whatsoever. My only gripes are that it gets a little bit hot when charging, and the battery only lasts for an hour and a half; I can deal with heat and the battery can be easily upgraded. The only thing you have to worry about with refurbished products is the look, not performance; Mine came with a small scratch in the top of the case, but performs like a champ. If you don't mind some minor cosmetic flaws, I'd definitely recommend this computer to anyone on a budget, especially at this price! Your computer uses memory to run your Operating System, applications, peripherals, and to generate and display graphics on your computer monitor. Video memory is a form of RAM, and is either built into your motherboard; or on a graphics card (video card). Depending on the motherboard's configuration, and that of the video card (if separate or built-in to the motherboard), your computer may have to draw on its own RAM memory to meet its video memory needs. This creates shared memory, where your computer’s RAM will be shared between its own Processor (CPU) and its graphics chip. The result is that some systems will have shared memory, some will not. If you have 2GB (for example) of system memory installed, you may notice that your system reports significantly less memory. This is because your system is using shared memory for your video. What can you do about this? You can actually configure this shared memory through your computer’s BIOS settings. However, this is a setting best left alone, since it is typically optimized for display performance, and making changes may impact display resolutions, and other video capabilities. The simplest solution is usually to either: increase your system memory; or to upgrade the video hardware. By upgrading to a new video card with built-in video memory, then turning off shared memory, you will free your system to use it's maximum potential memory, and provide your system with much more robust video features. Click Here for our Memory Options » Click Here for the latest Video Cards » How Much Memory Do You Really Have? When you look at the specifications for a computer, it will display the installed memory, and typically the maximum memory that can be installed. However, while these are real values, they represent a potential useable memory. The actual useable memory may be different from these values. The reason is simply that a computer may configured to use shared memory, which reduces the amount of RAM that is available to the CPU by using some of it for other purposes, such as for video memory. In some cases, you can control the maximum useable memory through system settings, and by upgrading to a video card that has internal onboard video memory. But always remember, that the amount of memory that your system reports, is not always the amount of actual installed memory. If you find that you need more memory, we suggest expanding your system memory, since this is the most effective performance increase, and the one that is easiest to perform .
