Why can't I get on the web with my refurbished Gateway? Recently I bought myself a refurbished Gateway computer with a manufacturer's warranty and an Actiontec PRISM Wireless LAN USB card (that's built in). Everything seems to be OK with the computer in general, except the wireless card won't see any unsecured networks. Judging by the ebay message I got the vendor and stuff I've found on Google, it could be configured to work correctly, but it's so hard to find the right piece of documentation? What should I do to get my computer to recognize all networks? Should I consider replacing my wireless card?

Do gateway laptops suck ? I am a sick computer nerd and an expert when it comes to computer hardware and OS technology, so its weird i would be asking a question. Im starting a project to turn a cheap laptop into a Ubuntu machine. At first i was looking at used laptops from ebay and decided i want a brand new machine to run linux. Since ubuntu doesn't require many system resources, I decided to shop for a laptop in the $400 - 450 price range. I looked on TigerDirect.com, a website which never gave me a problem when shopping for computers. I found the featured deal of the month, a Gateway NV5378U Refurb with AMAZING specs. For $410 I get a decent AMD athlon dual core processor with a clock of 2ghz, 4gb ram, and a 500gb HDD. It also got amazing reviews. However, there are 2 problems. My family and I had HORRIBLE experience with Gateway computers. In 2005 we got a Gateway 7330gz laptop that had the screen replaced 3 times and the DC jack replaced. Despite it having high end specs, it was a sluggish and crappy experience when used. Even with a clean install of XP pro (no recovery disks) it was the same shit. Also since its refurbished, Gateway only gives a 3 month warranty which im concerned about because of the crappy quality of their machines. It isnt my MAIN machine so its not the end of the world if it fails, but i really want a good laptop to run Ubuntu and this machine seems like the best deal. http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=6077158

Sorry about the double post, this is my first question on Yahoo! I meant to point out that my Celeron has only an 80 gig HD. And the main reason why I'm asking this question is to see if Gateway is better or worse than Dell.....because the laptop I found was a pretty good deal (refurbed and all).
I bought a refurbished computer, it says im connected to the internet, but the internet does not work?!!??!?? I just bought a gateway 2g ram, 400g hard drive, 2.2 ghz intel core duo processor with vista( i asked for xp they didnt have :S) anyways i have my desktop 03 xp computer and also a vaio laptop here at home, both connect fine to the internet and work properly, my desktop uses a D-LINK USB WIRELESS adapter model DWA-130 for wireless connectivity, so here is the problem, my brand new refurbished computer says that it is connected to the internet but it does not work! Why can't I play blu ray DVD's with my BRAND NEW Computer (Vista)? I just bought a refurbished Gateway computer with a 9600 Quad core processor and a ATI Radeon HD 2400XT graphics card. It has a built in blu ray player. I'm attempting to play my first blu ray disc (with Cyberlink Powerdvd) and the disc plays for a second and then an error message comes up and says that my graphics card driver is incompatible and I need to get a better one. Well, I downloaded Catalyst Software Suite (32 bit) English Only v.8.4 (with driver) and I still get the error message. Do I need to 'activate' the driver or something? How do I do that? WHY CAN'T I PLAY BLU RAY DISCS...THIS IS REALLY FRUSTRUATING! Thanks!!!!

how to change a 32 Bit hard drive to a 64 Bit? My recent Hp computer crashed and it had 64 Bit Windows Vista. Shortly after someone gave to me a refurbished Gateway computer with a 32 bit Windows Vista. I already took a lot of the stuff in the HP computer and put it into the Gateway one (processor, ram cards, disk drive, etc) But I can't switch my HP hard drive with the gateway one. is there anyway possible that I can switch it and make it a 64 bit system and have all my memory still on it? if not I could transfer all the data to the Gateway hard drive and use the recovery mode on the HP hard drive to switch the systems on my computer? (I dont have a recovery disk and had Windows Vista already installed on it, but I do have the Vista code on the side of the computer still. Not sure even if there is a recovery mode I can use on the hard drive either.) Thanks!

Help! Computer buying advice needed. Gateway, HP, Dell? I'm in the market to purchase another computer mine crashed. Would you help with some advice? I've been told to steer clear of hp. What are the latest models for dell and Gateway. I see alot of Optiplex for sale. How do they compare to the Inspirons? Which models do you reccommend and why? Do you have a referral to a trusted used/refurbished computer seller? I will be using it for a desktop publishing home based business. Flyers, newsletters, postcards etc., I will need it to handle loading graphics fairly quickly. Thank you in advance!!!
Where can I get an internal bluetooth module for my Gateway notebook? I bought a Gateway notebook that had an option of having Bluetooth, but I bought it refurbished, so it didn't have bluetooth installed. I want to know where I can get one so I can put it in. It's funny... I work at HP in their Bluetooth lab and I can't get bluetooth in my computer. At least I know how to install one, I just need the right module. I asked Gateway's Tech support and they told me that I can't get an internal bluetooth device because you can only get it if you customize your notebook with it during purchase. I'd perfer to have the bluetooth device built-in. It would leave me one more USB port than if I bought a USB Bluetooth dongle. Actually, I alread have an internal Bluetooth device. I'm just looking for the cable.
I have a gateway (model No.: W340UI) I bought it refurbished and it freezes. What could be the problem? I freezes all the time, but not when it is in safe mode. Sometimes it freezes before I even get to the desktop. I don't think it is a battery problem, over heating, or because small systems are plugging up my system, so what else could it be? And how do I fix it? Sometimes it doesn't freeze totally, and I can still move my mouse, but it only shows up on the taskbar. A lot of my programs even stop responding for no reason. It is terribly frusterating and I would like to know how to fix it, but I am not that good with computers. Any suggestions?
Why I'd my computer so slow? So I have a GM5483E Gateway computer (specs are here http://www.google.com/m/url?client=safari&ei=SFsfTvDCI5DIM5jI3uwB&hl=en&oe=UTF-8&q=http://www.amazon.com/Gateway-GM5483E-Refurbished-Desktop-Computer/dp/B000WSCMME&ved=0CBwQFjAC&usg=AFQjCNFB8np0M1GWGpIAZSakFnF7pF5QxQ) . When I first got it is ran okay. It is 2007 but now it runs really slowly in terms of startup and opening a browser, and it always seems to make a whole lot of noise with fans (Internet is fine, I use my mobile device, plus I have 40mbps). It takes a while to handle the simplest tasks and I can almost forget about opening iTunes. My web security provider is AVG (but for some reason I also have McAfee, how do I unistall?), I sometimes have skype on, and a screenshot software in the background (which isn't slot compared to what Ive seen others have. I have not performed and hardware upgrades or converted to windows 7 (I have windows vista P1 32bit.). But is there a software that can "clean" my computer, or am I going to have to do some internal computer stuff? Sorry, the specs are actually this http://www.google.com/m/url?client=safari&ei=Kl4fTvCbMJDIM5jI3uwB&hl=en&oe=UTF-8&q=http://support.gateway.com/s/PC/R/1009580/1009580sp2.shtml&ved=0CBQQFjAA&usg=AFQjCNG-rUIcT0h-SrXyCnELbHjtqqzPSA ^ | This wrong, this is the one for sure http://support.gateway.com/s/PC/R/1009580/1009580sp2.shtml

Will I need to buy all those CD-ROMs too? Please HELP!! The error says something like fatal system error, 0x00000080 0000000080 or something.

Acer, HP Pavilion, Gateway, IBM, Asus, Panasonic, Dell? I am looking into getting a notebook computer. NOT a desktop, and NOT a laptop. I am looking for a notebook. If you answer this question, PLEASE explain your answer. Do you have a notebook from one of those companies? If so, please tell me anything that is wrong with it, or anything that is exceptional about it. The above list is from a retail website that sells refurbished computers. These were at the top of the page. It's not an exhaustive list. If you have a notebook made by someone else, which far exceeds the above list in quality, value, etc., please let me know. When i put my newly refurbished battery in my computer it shuts off the power source. Power works w/o battery? The laptop is a gateway and I thought the problem was the battery so I got new cells added yet as soon as i put the battery in the laptop the power source goes out and I cannot get the computer on. What is wrong? Is it fixable, in terms of reasonable cost? Need my computer to function when it is not plugged in. What can I do?

My Gateway NV52 laptop cannot find my bluetooth mouse. Please help.? I have a Gateway NV52(refurbished/ new to me). Windows 7 64bit operating system I have a bluetooth mouse which will work when I use a bluetooth dongle but not with the bluetooth that should be on the laptop. I have pushed Fn/F6 and the bluetooth indicator is lit up in blue. I cannot find anything on the outer edges of the computer that would shut it off manually. I do not know what specifically to look for in the device manager to see if there is a problem but I have downloaded the latest bluetooth drivers from Gateway and installed them on the computer. The device manager is showing no devices with the yellow triangle on them. Does anyone have an ideas? I'm frustrated and totally at wits end. I don't want to keep using the dongle when I apparently should have bluetooth as far as I know. I have tried to find my phone and it does not see that either... both are on, active, & findable All the drivers are updated, installed & checked already.

Need new computer purchasing advice? I am trying to help my step-father decide on what kind of computer to purchase for under $500. He doesn't play games, and mostly just needs it for word processing, internet, playing music. I am pretty knowledgeable with computers, but every computer I've had I've built myself, so I don't really know about the quality of manufactured computers. I've seen some good deals in my Tiger Direct magazine for Gateway and eMachine computers....I've also seen some good deals through Best Buy's web site on eMachine and Compaq Presarios. I've heard mixed reviews about eMachines quality....I'm also nervous about going with a "refurbished" computer from Tiger Direct. I've looked at Dell, but I can't get as fast of a computer through them for the same price as I can going with BestBuy or Tiger. What is your advice?

What computer /hardrive do you recommend? My harddrive I have is a Gateway that I bought refurbished for $100 at Computers, Etc. Everything works fine on it but it is VERY SLOW, I mean VERY S L O W! I want to buy a new harddrive or a laptop/desktop. I know nothing about brands, systems, etc. These are all foreign words to me. When I go into a store I am so lost with the saleclerk & I don't want to be taken. I want a computer for internet access, fast performing, typing letters, homework, making cards & other projects. My son is 11 & he is starting to have to type his book reports. Our's is so slow that sometimes we go to the library to use theirs. What type, model, brand name, do you suggest? I am looking to spend under $600 (if that's possible). I have a mouse, keyboard, monitor, printer & speakers. I just need a new harddrive or do you suggest a laptop? Please give me specifics so I can write it all down so it sounds like I have some knowledge when I am at the stores. Thanks! Any websites that I can learn from?

Gateway laptop's battery suddenly stopped charging? I just bought this gateway laptop off this guy who sells refurbished laptops on the side and he seemed like he knew what he was doing when it came to computers, because he showed me how to do certain things on it like install drivers and what not. It has been about a month and the battery has stopped charging. This is not the first laptop that did this. I bought a Dell off some shady guy before for $150 but it worked for a good while then the battery went on it. What causes this to happen and is there anyway we can fix it without having to buy a new one?

laptop comparison: gateway nv7915u vs asus u50f rbbag05? I am looking to buy a laptop for college. I want something that will perform well and not break the bank. The two laptops I have deduced to be the best are the gateway nv7915u or asus u50f rbbag05. Both have the intel i3 and 4gb of ram and large hard drives. I don't know much about computers but I know a little. Both of these have high spcs (as far as I know) and have received good reviews. I don't play many computer games but I do play some and I plan on buying some in the future. From what I have deduced the gateway is better for gaming and overall performance. I have found it priced at $550 refurbished $600 new. The asus I found for $400 refurbished. So its save some money or have a slightly better computer. I would like to know what people think of each and weigh in on which I should get. Thanks.
computer mess up question? so..i have a gateway touch screen computer: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Gateway+-+Factory-Refurbished+All-In-One+Computer+/+Intel%26%23174%3B+Core%26%23153%3B+i3+Processor+/+23%22+Display+/+4GB+Memory/2380721.p?id=1218323855464&skuId=2380721 anndd i got it in november...but recently..the entire screen has been changing to the same color as the windows bar. if you dont know what i mean by that, its like..how on windows 7 you can change the color of your windows and the bar that the search bar is on at the bottom. anyways, the screen has been completely changing to the same color as the windows bar..and then sometimes restarting itself..and sometimes it will just sit there, and i cant do anything..i cant do ctrl+alt+delete or anything..it just stays that same color..so i have to turn it off then back on. the past few days it happened quite frequently. i did a full virus scan of the computer too, and it still did it. it hasnt done it today..but im afraid it will start up again. does anyone know whats going on?

my Gateway Laptop is acting wack!? Hey guys, im a computer repair guy, and i got a gateway M460G on my hands. it looks refurbished and heres the problem. if left off and without battery and power source, after five mins the laptop will turn on with NO PROBLEMS. but if i restart it, or turn it off, and leave the battery or power source in it, and i turn on the power, the blue power light turn on and so does the HDD light, also the fan spins then stops after 30 secconds. ive used my copy of GEEK SQUAD MRI, and changed the ram, RE BOOTED from XP to 7 ULTIMATE, and changed the processor, but i kno the CMOS battery is dead, can i fix it? ps its nt the LCD connector because it acts the same way connected to a VGA port. who ever helps me, i mite throw u a copy of GEEK SQUAD MRI
Computer LOW FPS problems? Hey i have a computer problem which i dont know what is it, but ill give you info about the problem and maybe you can help me fix it or tell me what to do and what it is. I have a gateway gt5628, it came stock with a nvidia 8500 and, my computer used to run wow on ultra settings except shadows, but i upgraded to a 8800 gts when they 1st came out and it burnt my mother board or fried my computer from working and gateway refurbished it. So after they fixed it i just upgraded to a 8600 since the 8800's were bad. but then i sold my 8600 and went back to the stock 8500 and it burned out a few months after so i got the Geforce 210 since it was cheap and on sale in bestbuy and i needed a replacement card asap, which on the box it says it blows World of Warcraft away in graphics i figured it would be better than the 8500, but then i seen the 210 is a crappy card so 1 year later i got the gtx460, i get same fps or lower with a way crappier card. So i googled stuff and ppl said my cpu is probally bottle necking the gpu which seems understandable, so i thought my comp couldnt handle it and turned it back in as best buy then got the geforce 240, which my friend has the same computer model and 240 that his 8500 died like mines and he says he gets 100fps in wow on ultra, and i get 15 fps on "recommended" settings? So i ask what is causing this problem and how do i fix it so that my fps in games will be higher? and down below is some computer specs and if u want more info on the computer just google "gateway gt5628 specs". Cpu:Q6600 Quad core 2.4ghz ( not over clockable ) GPU:8500,8800,8600,8500,210,460,240. All low fps in all of my games now. Back to the 210 as of now which i still get 15 fps on recommended settings. PsU:Cooler Master 600W @36amps on a +12v rail or w.e Ram: 3 gig ddr2 OS: Windows 7 Ultimate, not windows vista like original model. HD: 500gb @ Armany if you wouldve read correctly, i do have a after market psu which has enough stats to run all the gpus i listed. crap cards? the gtx460 that i type is a good card for its price. @ Jack. no i dont wear the anti static wristband, but i doubt thats the case. psu is old like 2-3 years, but its specs can keep up with all the graphics cards listed and yes i deleted all drivers and installed from nvidia site not cd that came with gcard. and i dont know which pcie i have i forgot. EDIT: Also noticed my computer makes breathing noises sometimes, like it takes deep breaths slowly and fastly then goes quiet. Sounds like its coming from the fan. EDIT: also my bro just started playing wow again and he gets 15 fps on low settings in cataclysm areas. and his comp only has 512mb or ram, no graphics card, and a old single core processor. we both get the same fps and my comp is way better? yeah something is wrong with my computer, help me please. NEW INFO: http://i56.tinypic.com/oqbwbt.png ^^^^ is my crappy results of 3DMark03 benchmark, hope this info can help you help me.
Laptop can't get online? My refurbished Gateway hasn't let me access the internet recently. On good days I can only get about 3-4 bars of connectivity; to get 5 I have to go to the basement and sit in front of the router. Sometimes when the computer won't connect to the net, I go downstairs, set it up in front of the router, and it works. Today, I tried it a couple of times and I couldn't connect. All other computers in the house are working fine. When I tried to do a diagnose and repair on the laptop, I got an error message saying "There might be a problem with one or more network adapters on this computer." what does this mean in plain English? Does anyone know why I can't get online? How can I fix this? (Any tech support people are more than welcome to answer, please!)
Refurbished laptops on TigerDirect.com...anybody ever buy one? Are they good? I'm thinking about buying one, but I've never bought a refurbished laptop before. I wonder how reliable it will be. It's a Gateway 15" for $399. I won't list all the specs here, but it appears to be a good computer. I'm just wondering if anybody has ever bought a refurbished laptop, especially from TigerDirect, and whether it worked out for you. Way to spam, Todd J!!!

XFX GeForce 8500gt. question is. as this computer has never been turned on. What are the steps in installing? Remove old drivers first? in bios? install card with disk in drive? There is no manual with comp. instructions with card are vague at best. looked on line and am more confused.UGH! Vista was preinstalled, another first for me.
My Gateway Laptop will not turn on at all.? It just happened today, it has been working fine ever since I got it. I got it as a present in 2007, it is refurbished, and I dont know where it came from, but the Warranty has expired. The model is MX6453. It wont turn on when it is plugged in. Nothing happens, no light, nothing. Usually a little blue comes on in the front of the computer.

Laptop Issues!? I have two questions that majorly needs somebody's more advanced expertiece in laptops. 1) I had just gotten a newly refurbished Gateway M285 tablet pc. The laptop has an A/C adapter and works perfectly on it. The battery however isn't working correctly. The blue LED indicator indicates that it is fully charged. But, when I take off the A/C adapter, the LED light turns red and then shuts itself down. I have caliborated the battery but it says its fine. Whats wrong? 2) I have Verizon DSL on one of my computers at home. I have tried to install Verizon DSL on my tablet. But, It says there's a modem problem and cannot connect to the server. Everything is hooked up correctly, ethernet cables, modem, filters, and everything, but it doesn't seem to work out. I'm considering going wireless, and not sure how. First of all I need a wireless card right? Then second, do I need a special modem for a wireless card or can I just plug in the card, set it up, and I'm ready to go anywhere? Thanks!

My computer keeps freezing? First things first, I don't have spyware. I'm running on Vista Ultimate X86 64-Bit, and it's really getting annoying. Literally, the only things I leave running when it freezes are; Firefox, iTunes, and Maple Story. After a few minutes of game play, I have to reboot it and yeah, it gets irritating. This computer is pretty new, it's 2 weeks old. It's a refurbished one (x.x), and it's a Gateway computer. The problem never occured during the time I got it, but it recently started about 4 days ago. Any help will be appreciated!

Mine looked brand spanking new. Very fast, the battery does last only 1 1/2 hours, but I got an extra battery for $65 on eBay used and it works nicely. Came with Vista, but I put WinXP on mine and found all the drivers on the internet. The construction is very sturdy hard plastic, none of the cheap flimsy stuff. Overall the value is great, it feels and looks more durable than laptops of the past, and is fast. Great buy. REVIEW BY: Rick M. Reviewed Aug 07, 2008 I bought this laptop a week ago.and received it Wednesday. Excellent condition, I would have thougt I just picked it up at a store. My only problem was when I allowed Norton Internet Security to load (60 day trial)and then brought up the internet, half way through loading, the system locked up. The only way to free it up was to manualy power down. I unistalled Norton and installed AVG Free. NO more problems !!!! This is a very fast easy to use laptop with all the bells and whistles. Also very fast shipping,3 days. VERY HAPPY REVIEW BY: fraqtured Reviewed Aug 06, 2008 i bought the T1625 which is essentially the same specs as this, and wanted to input the impression i drew from the t1625. first off, great price, amazing features, and with a laptop cooler running $40 dollars for a middle of the road model, this laptop will run cool [the only complaint i have found on these was the heat] and you will have picked yourself up a top with features running in some cases nearly twice as much in price of a non refurbs, which will only be the refurbs of tomorrow. run all the updates through gateway, and do a clean reinstall and pertition reformat when you unpack, it, it will take a little bit of time, but will point you in a much faster direction. this laptop is highly recomended in my opinion. REVIEW BY: Reviewed Aug 05, 2008 This is my first purchase from TD.com, and I'm very satisfied with it. The Turion 64 dualcore processor and the 2GB of RAM make short work of everything I throw at it; I have Pidgin (my IM client), Firefox (with 3 tabs open, including YouTube), LimeWire, and uTorrent all running at the same time and there is absolutely no slowdown whatsoever. My only gripes are that it gets a little bit hot when charging, and the battery only lasts for an hour and a half; I can deal with heat and the battery can be easily upgraded. The only thing you have to worry about with refurbished products is the look, not performance; Mine came with a small scratch in the top of the case, but performs like a champ. If you don't mind some minor cosmetic flaws, I'd definitely recommend this computer to anyone on a budget, especially at this price! Your computer uses memory to run your Operating System, applications, peripherals, and to generate and display graphics on your computer monitor. Video memory is a form of RAM, and is either built into your motherboard; or on a graphics card (video card). Depending on the motherboard's configuration, and that of the video card (if separate or built-in to the motherboard), your computer may have to draw on its own RAM memory to meet its video memory needs. This creates shared memory, where your computer’s RAM will be shared between its own Processor (CPU) and its graphics chip. The result is that some systems will have shared memory, some will not. If you have 2GB (for example) of system memory installed, you may notice that your system reports significantly less memory. This is because your system is using shared memory for your video. What can you do about this? You can actually configure this shared memory through your computer’s BIOS settings. However, this is a setting best left alone, since it is typically optimized for display performance, and making changes may impact display resolutions, and other video capabilities. The simplest solution is usually to either: increase your system memory; or to upgrade the video hardware. By upgrading to a new video card with built-in video memory, then turning off shared memory, you will free your system to use it's maximum potential memory, and provide your system with much more robust video features. When you look at the specifications for a computer, it will display the installed memory, and typically the maximum memory that can be installed. However, while these are real values, they represent a potential useable memory. The actual useable memory may be different from these values. The reason is simply that a computer may configured to use shared memory, which reduces the amount of RAM that is available to the CPU by using some of it for other purposes, such as for video memory. In some cases, you can control the maximum useable memory through system settings, and by upgrading to a video card that has internal onboard video memory. But always remember, that the amount of memory that your system reports, is not always the amount of actual installed memory. Do I need an OEM CD or a standard Microsoft CD to install Windows XP Home Edition? I have an old gutted Gateway computer with a Windows XP Home Edition COA (original version with no service packs). The COA has the Gateway name on it. I have an IBM computer that I am refurbishing and I would like to, if possible, install Windows XP Home Edition with the Gateway COA on the IBM computer. Here are my questions. 1. Is this operation even possible? 2. If it is, do I need a OEM Windows XP Home Edition reinstallation disc from Gateway, or will one from Microsoft do? Please let me know. Thanks!
New Laptop Installing windows... please help? Hey, Just got my new refurbished Gateway laptop in the mail. Turned it on right away and didn't think to plug in the charger. While windows was installing the battery died. When I turned it back on after plugging the charger in I get an error message that says "an error occurred while installing windows, to restart you computer and windows installation press ok" So when I press "Ok" it restarts and and the same message reappears, I've done this about 3 times now. Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks
Laptop won't read CD's? I just got a new refurbished Gateway laptop for my birthday a few weeks ago, and I had no trouble with it until today. When I put in an audio CD, the computer wouldn't read it, even though I heard lots of noise as if the machine was trying. I tried a different CD and got the same result. Then, I restarted the comp. This time, when I looked under my computer, I could see the CD and open it from there. But normally whenever I put in a CD, I see a menu asking me whether I should play the CD or rip music. This time, that didn't happen. What could be wrong? What should I do? Do I need to call the manufacturer?

My son puts in games and I like to burn cds and watch dvds. Does this drive support that? Is it the right speed for games? THANKS!!!
Dropped laptop, power button is on but nothing happens? My laptop was inside my protection sleeve. I put the laptop on my bed and it slipped off my bed and dropped onto the carpet. Now when I push the power button, the button itself lights on, but nothing happens. The machine doesn't sound like it's turned on, but the light on the power button (only) remains on, until I turn the machine off. I took it to a computer place for a very very general diagnostic. The guy took the harddrive out and nothing was wrong with it (the contents can be retrieved when plucked into another machine). He plucked an external monitor to the laptop but nothing shows up (meaning the problem is not with my laptop monitor). He said something else internal is damaged. He said it's not worth it to get it fixed. I want to get a second opinion on this before buying a new laptop. It's a refurbished gateway, a bit over 1 year old. What's the problem and roughly how much to fix? Should I buy a new laptop instead?
Computer problems!? My refurbished gateway freezes all the time, and lately it isn't even starting, it's starts, and then the screen turns blue, and it shuts down, and restarts, etc. The only way I can use it is if it's on safe mode. How much will it cost to get it looked at, and what are some things I can do to fix it myself?
my gateway t-1625 was stolen....should i buy another one? I really liked that computer, and I don't really have much money. I got the computer at best buy..but they don't have anymore. however comp usa does have one and its "quality refurbished" so i'm assuming its used and its $499.... should I buy the same one but refurbished from comp usa... Or should I look for another laptop? I'd rather not go laptop shopping AGAIN...but I will if its the best thing to do. the t-1625 has 250gb hard drive and 2gb ram webcam and its 14.1 inches... i thought it was a pretty good laptop http://www.compusa.com/applications/searchtools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3901460&Sku=G153-T1625&SRCCODE=CNETCMPUSA&CMP=OTC-CNET

why does my laptop randomly shut off? no, it's not overheating, i've taken it to a computer guy and he's run it thru tests and whatnot and even measured temps with lasers when it shut off on him. there's no rhyme or reason, the guy said its a short, but if anyone has any tips or clues to make it NOT DO IT or do it less, i would be most appreciative and possible owe you my firstborn. i'm a writer and, while i click save in an OCD manner every five minutes, i still manage to lose parts of my work when it shuts off. i've degfragged, checked for errors, deleted things, rearranged, and everything else i could think of. i'm not using half the memory, i've unscrewed the plate on the bottom and blown dust out the fans and stuff. i don't know what else to do except get a new computer. this one is 2 yrs old (since i've had it at least), gateway, refurbished, 17-inch screen. i know nothing else to give any specifics about it. it's done this since i bought it and i'm pissed with it now... ARGH I WANT A NEW ONE. anyways... please help if you can. let me know if anyone needs further details and i'll see if i can figure them out. programs running in the background : yahoo and AIM messengers, desktop weather channel, and norton. generally i'm also running mozilla web browser and microsoft word or other such programs, occasionally with itunes or frostwire. whoops, forgot that detail...good guess, yea it is windows xp. tehe....
