Are Gateway computers allowed in India? Since they exploit cows and all... Are they even in business anymore?
Help choosing a business name for computer service? I want to register a DBA (doing business as) name for a computer service and repair company. Besides running a Google check, is there any other way to check whether a business name is already in use before deciding on a few good names to choose from? I'm trying to think of a name that is completely original yet simple. I'm reminded of the simplicity of names like Dell and Gateway. There was a time when those names didn't mean anything to the public, but a lot of advertising and professional branding strategies changed that. Now when you think "Dell", you think "computers". I want to do the same thing in my local area, but every name I've thought of is either taken or it just doesn't seem to "do it". For example, it doesn't "roll off the tongue", or it's difficult to remember or spell. Here's what I'm asking for - one of 3 things: 1.) Inspirational/creative sources online. 2.) Website where I can check available DBA register 3.) A brandable word that could say "computers"
I NEED HELP with my Gateway Computer? Okay so I'm trying to download Microsoft Office 2010 on my XP computer and this message keeps popping up. A file required to set up Microsoft Office Home and Business 2010 (Beta) is corrupted. Try Running Setup again. If the problem continues, contact your computer manufacturer for support. I went to the gateway website and they only had was stuff for the Vista. What do i do.
What is the best brand of desktop computers? We are purchasing a desktop computer in April sometime, and from my business class i know a thing or two about what to look for. But i dont know what brand is most reliable! by brand, i am meaning dell, hp, gateway, acer, etc. I only want the best, and I am leaning towards an hp desktop computer but is it really the best for my money? :] thanks for your help!! <3
What is the best laptop for business students? I am entering my junior year at UF, and plan to pursue an MBA. I've had a Gateway since high school, and am not overly impressed. Now is the time for an upgrade - I've been saving up. My budget is between $800-$1200 and I'm curious to learn the opinions of those who know more about computers than I do. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!
my internet works slow. how will i know other users of the network that consumes bandwidth due to torrent? several computers are sharing the bandwidth of a business gateway. during peak hours, internet speed turns bad. most of the time, it is due to multiple downloads and requests maybe due to torrent or rapidshare. how will i know the IP address of these computers? are there programs/software to determine such situations? thanks.
Invisible simple app to limit a computers internet speed? We have a user in our business who takes advantage of our internet speed and uses a large chunk of our data allowance every month. We don't have enough money to build a gateway machine that limits employees machines so I'm wondering if anyone knows of a simple executable (or setting in xp) that starts on boot and limits their internet speed to dial-up.
I'm looking to start a business and I need to know a few things. Mainly, what do I need? I want to start a computer business. I'm looking to build, upgrade, and repair computers. I also want to do something a little different than the rest. I also want to sell custom computers, parts, accessories, as well as big name brands like Dell, Gateway, and so on. I'm also looking into an internet/gaming cafe to attach to the business. I know I'll need business licenses, a place to rent out, and probably a few employees to start (just a friend or two plus a few family members probably won't be enough). I've already looked around the area I'm in (Chippewa, PA) and there's really nothing of the sort around, so I feel it would probably do pretty well. I just need to know what else I need and where to go to get what I need. I know money is obviously a big factor, and I should have enough, but I'd like to know how much, in a ball park figure, I would really need. I also need to know who would be best to get my parts from (the parts to build and the parts to sell directly). Need to who to contact if I want to sell big name brands as well. I also want to know what I need for the internet/gaming cafe as well (type of internet I need from best provider, what type of things to sell at the cafe, and the equipment to do so). Lastly, I need to know if there are any other types of specialty licenses that I would need for a business like this. Any thoughts or ideas would be greatly appreciated. If you think this is a good or bad idea, please don't just say it is, I'd like to know why you think that. I know this is a lot, but I thank you for your time if you respond!
Gateway Computer Asks For Administrator Password? My Brother in law just gave me a gateway computer that he no longer needed, i tried to start fresh and formatted the computer, and now it is asking me for an administrator password before i even log in to windows. I think he was using it at his business where it was running on a server. My question is can i disable the password protection from bios or what do i have to do. Reminder I can't log into windows, (haven't tried safe mode) Guest Account Has Been Suspended/Disabled According To Gateway
Breach of contract against Gateway Computer? In 2006, I bought a Gateway laptop and paid several hundred dollars for an extended warranty, good through the end of 2009. It was the 'bells and whistles' warranty -- everything was covered. Then I learned in 2007 that Gateway sold all of their 'business warranties' to APC Corporation without my knowledge or consent. In 2008, APC Corporation went bankrupt, and I have been unable to get a replacement hard drive that I needed, which would have been covered by the expensive warranty I paid for. I've tried to contact APC several times since mid-2008 but received only a canned response that APC is filing for bankruptcy protection and that warranties 'will be effected.' In the meantime I have a hard drive I've had to pay to replace that was clearly covered by the warranty. So the question is, do I have a legal claim against Gateway for selling off my warranty to a company without my consent, then the company goes bankrupt a few months later? Isn't that a tidy way to dispose of warranty obligations? And, what do you think I should do?
Should I Purchase An Off Lease Business PC? We were going to upgrade our old Gateway PC (running XP Home) but ran into some problems (including trying to add RAM). The hard drive is almost full and is also making horrid noises. We were going to replace it with a 500 gb drive, and then install the clone of this machine onto the new one. However, I came across an excellent deal on an off-lease HP Compaq PC online. Specs are a 3GHz Intel Pentium 4 (same as our present machine), 2 GB RAM, 500 GB hard drive (twice our present one), DVDRW, and has a fresh install of Windows XP Pro. Also has Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950 chipset, a more recent one than the old Gateway. All this for under $200. My question: I mostly use a PC for games (nothing fancy, just those available on websites like Big Fish Games, etc.), editing photographs and some word processing. And the usual email, of course. I was wondering if this off-lease business computer would be a good choice for me to continue to use the PC for the activities mentioned above. Guess the word "business" is giving me pause. Do business PCs handle video, photo editing, gaming etc. as well as a machine geared towards home use? We have little money to work with but since we are already running into problems with the Gateway (other troubles might show up even after the upgrade due to its age) it looks like we have to go the other route. We also want to keep using XP due to the vast amount of items that would not transfer onto Windows 7. Please advise whether a business based PC would be capable of handling things like games. I imagine people are not supposed to play games while on the job! Any thoughts or suggestions would be most appreciated! Have a great day.

Can u sell junk computers? We have 2 laptops one is an acer netbook with a broken screen and the other is a gateway with a fried hard drive. Could we sell them for parts? Or is there a business that buys junk computers) pls help
How to replace hard drive in gateway laptop? I have a gateway m-1625 laptop and it shuts down on me when it wants to I described what happens to my aunt who owns her own business working with computers (she does not fix laptops though) and she said it sounds like my hard drive is dying so I want to replace it but I rather do it myself than take it to geek squad. If someone can tell me step by step how to do it or give me a website that can show me that would help a lot. Thanks! Also it said somewhere you have to wear a grounding wrist strap and attach it to bare metal or something and then you're supposed to touch a bare metal surface...do I have to do that stuff? It's kind of confusing.
How to install a new laptop hdd? Hi there~ I'm about to buy a new ATA laptop hdd drive and was wondering how do I go about installing it if my old laptop's hdd is broken to the point where it won't start up anymore. How would I transfer the license of my OS to another HDD ? Also my computer is a Gateway Ta7 using Windows Vista Business edition ,with a duo core.
What sort of 450-550W power supply will fit into and work with a Gateway DX4200-09? I've tried two power supplies. One fit perfectly, I was able to seat it fine and it didn't wobble or anything when I moved the tower around, but it was apparently rated incorrectly for my motherboard and it wouldn't read my harddrive. Alright, fair enough. I got the second power supply, the plugs fit just fine, but it was physically too small to be seated correctly, so it would've been rather dangerous to attempt to either forcefully seat it (and risk damaging my computer) or (a wild, stupid idea) leave it out of the case (which I know is quite stupid due to the risk of both damaging the computer and myself). I've been told by word of mouth that the PSU for this particular computer is apparently a custom form-factor to make sure Gateway is the only company to receive business for this computer, but I highly doubt this as I've heard stories of people upgrading this computer successfully. However, they did not give any details which is immensely frustrating because twice I've been burned on getting the wrong PSU. Any suggestions?
Online business advice.? Hello, We are two 25 year old adults who wish to start an online business. We were thinking of building our own computers and selling them at much lower prices than offered at big computer manufacturers (ie Dell, HP, Gateway, etc). We are struggling on starting and becoming known. How can we assure customers to trust us online and how can we get our name out there? Can someone who has gone through a similar experience give us some advice? Thanks
Gateway 2001? So i got windows vista business edition for free from school that had an alliance with Microsoft. Now i installed it on my computer and it works great. I have a 120 gig HD and 80 gig Hd 1 gig of ram 128 graphics card 2.0 ghz petnium 4 processor. Now my question is.....why do people have so much trouble running windows vista on their newer 2006 2007 computers? When my old Gateway runs it like a champ? Just wondering??
How can I get a second router to allow multiple computers to access the internet? We have about twenty computers connected to a business network, and we are connected to the internet using Verizon Fios service. We have one line running from our hub to another location in our office, at which there are two computers we intend on using for public access to the internet. The line running in that direction is connected to the internet - if I plug that cable directly into one of the computers on the other end, I can access the internet. The problem is - when I plug that line into a router, and then plug two computers into the router, I cannot use those computers to access the internet. We have one router acting as a gateway that provides the building internet access. That gateway router is configured with a static IP. My questions are: 1. Do I have to configure the secondary router with the static IP info? 2. Would configuring setting in advanced routing help me? If so, I assume I need to set it up as a router and not a gateway. Which IP do I want to specify in these fields? 3. If I'm totally off track, what else can I do to make this router share internet access to the two computers aforementioned? Thanks much for anyone who can help me! Thanks for the answers guys. The switch worked beautifully. I'm wondering, can I connect one of those wireless routers to the ethernet switch and set it up to work like a wireless access point?
how do you clear your history from your computer? selling an older gateway computer and don't want my business searches files found
How can i restore my computer to factory default? I have a gateway e-4000 (Business PC) running XP Professional, and was wondering how to restore it to factory default to hopefully get rid of some errors and files.
How can network users use V.92 modem on hold on a wireless home network? Greetings, I have an ad-hoc wireless network in my home and need remote modem-on-hold. I live in a rural area where there are far more deer than people, with no chance of a broadband connection being offered by my phone company. My wife and I both run businesses out of our home that require us to be on the internet a great deal through our 56k dialup connection. Clients occasionally call, and though we have the "Callwave" service and tried similar services they are not really what we need. I am looking for a way that any of the computers on the network can use the modem-on-hold v.92 feature so that any home network user can answer the call by voice even though the modem in use is on the network server as an ICS internet gateway. All computers are running XP Pro. Anyone know how this can be done? Thanks in advance
I am selling stuff from my business? I am selling some computers right now it's 3 computers hp,compaq and a gateway.I am only asking $3000.00 If you are interested email me plus I have movies,cd's,video games, clothes, electronices and lots more.all items are rare.make me an offer.
I have an extended warranty for my computer... Who to write to? It is a Gateway computer and the extended warranty is a company called National Product Care Company. I purchased it from HSN. The computer just stopped working, won't turn on. It is the 2nd time it has broken down and I am told that they will probably erase my hard drive and so I am to pay to somehow back it up. I am frustrated because the extended warranty states that if you live in the state of WA that if for any reason you are not happy with what the repair company says that they will do that the insurance company will reimburse you for the original cost of the computer so that you can purchase a new one. Well, given the fact that this is the 2nd time in 1.5 years and I use this computer for business, it is not reliable and I don't want to continue to have issues with it. So, I put together a 11 page long letter and faxed it to the Insurance company. No answer. I have called 4 times and left a message and have the name of the receptionist who told me she would have someone call me back and still no contact. So, I am writing to the BBB but I wanted to apply more damage so that they will respond and I am not sure which agency to write to being that they are in IL, and I am in WA state. And HSN is in Florida...... It does not start period. It will not boot, it will not start after clearing the electricity out of the battery compartment. Ect, ect. I have performed all possible troubleshooting. The company that sold it to me, HSN, they will not be of any assistance. The only hope is to lodge a complaint against the insurance company at this point. I want to be bought out. I would let them fix it but they will not back it up and since that is a software issue, they are in the right there. As a consumer though that leaves me screwed.
Help! Computer buying advice needed. Gateway, HP, Dell? I'm in the market to purchase another computer mine crashed. Would you help with some advice? I've been told to steer clear of hp. What are the latest models for dell and Gateway. I see alot of Optiplex for sale. How do they compare to the Inspirons? Which models do you reccommend and why? Do you have a referral to a trusted used/refurbished computer seller? I will be using it for a desktop publishing home based business. Flyers, newsletters, postcards etc., I will need it to handle loading graphics fairly quickly. Thank you in advance!!!
Which makes a better PC computer...HP or Gateway? We're making the leap from Mac to PC and don't know which kind to buy. We can't spend a bundle, but we also don't want the worst thing out there. We want something fast and efficient for basic word processing, Internet business, and digital photos. For mid-level models, we've been focusing on HP and Gateway...any suggestions as to which is better, or are there other brands that we should be seriously considering? One limitation: we have to use our Best Buy card!

looking to buy best computer on the market for gaming, any suggestions? I have been searching for sometime now for the best gaming computer on the market. I have looked at Compaq, HP, Gateway, Dell, and Alienware. I felt Alienware was probably the most expenisve, and Gateway had the best deal, but i'm not sure which one would be a better gaming computer. Anybody have any idea with these companies or can suggest the best place to get this style computer. Or is there anywhere else there are good, strong gaming computers? I want the best graphics and most memory, plus best processor. Also if you could tell me what the current best processors and video cards on the market are now I would be grateful. It's been ages sinced I computer shopped and i'm way out of the loop now (you know how fast the business changes). Thanks for all the help for anyone who answers!! One final note, I want a desktop, not a notebook computer.
I need a company name answer.? I'm starting my own computer business, much like Gateway, eMachines, and Apple. Am I allowed to name my company Dunder Mifflin? (inspired by "The Office") I know it is property of NBC Productions. If I can't could I possibly buy the name from them?
Can anyone tell me how to make this better? What they like about it, anything to change? I am an obtainer of knowledge, more than anything my ultimate goal is to major in computer science. I wish to further my education and obtain a bachelor's degree in this subject. In my high school career, I have taken nearly all the computer courses offered. Advanced business computers, web design, desktop publishing, and programming C++ as an independent study course. I passed these classes with A's and B's. Through these experiences, it made me decide on what I wanted to do with my life. I have been actively involved with computers for six years, the first computer I owned was a Gateway, windows 95. No one in my house knew how to run a computer so I taught myself. In eighth grade I met friends who taught me how to build a computer, and about different software. I never once consumed alcohol nor smoked a cigarette. My bothers and sisters look up to me and I would never want to do anything to ruin that. I have remained drug free and intend on keeping it that way. I'm very dedicated and passionate about my work, giving up is not an option. If there is a problem that cannot be solved, I am not too proud to ask for help or advice. Constructive criticism is a way to enhance your abilities. A time where I expressed my skills would be my final project in commercial art. For my final project, I was assigned to make a web page for the art courses. The only one in the whole class that knew how to do HTML was myself. I managed to come up with all the pages, in the end I received an A. In college I wish to retake math courses, though my computer skills are great, my math skills are a bit weak. The two coexist but I will never let that put me down, I will work hard to achieve the goals in my life. My family does not make a great amount of money. My father and mother are both unemployed and I live with my grandfather. He is retired now and does not make enough money to help me go to college. To fix this problem, I wish to get scholarships and help pay for college by getting a job. To achieve my goals, I will stay focused, never quit and it shall surely pay off. Through dedication I strife to obtain a major in Computer science, take math courses and be accepted in a decent college that offers the degree I wish to pursue.
Are big business companies really corrupt? I am having trouble understanding a few things about the economy and how big business works. Right now the economy is in big trouble, we have the Banks that needed to be bailed out by the United States government, but the bank raises the fees for bounced checks and let more people go so there are fewer workers in the bank to take care of customers. Yet the CEO’s and anyone higher up the chain get bigger bonuses and more goodies even though they had to downsize; how does that make things right? I used to work for Gateway as a customer support technician. They decided to move the operations overseas to India to save money so they could develop newer technologies and create new jobs. The only place they created anything is in their pockets. They may have developed newer computers faster smaller and all sorts of goodies, but this was all done over seas where the labor is cheaper, and they lined their pockets with more money. About 5 years ago there was an airline that the workers were going to go on strike. The company CEO went to the Union Leaders and said look if you go for more money we will be forced into bankruptcy. He really pleaded and made the union think that they were all going to loose if they persisted. So the Union backed down. Guess what the CEO and board of directors did, they all gave themselves a pat on the back for avoiding a strike and lined their pockets with big fat bonuses. This did not sit well with the workers, in the end the Board of Directors found it prudent to return that nice little bonus and give it to the workers who are actually making the money for those idiots. I wondered if we all got together and started to boycott certain business for a set period of time to really shake these jerks up a little and make them think about how they really do have it too nice. Would that make a difference? One other thing right now there is a guy accused of insider trading. His name is Mark Cuban if he is found guilty I think it only fair that he pays back all of the funds that he made plus a fine in fact he should be kicked down to the bottom of the ladder. He is not just stealing money from insider trading we ALL suffer as it affects all of us. It devalues every bodies stocks and retirement funds. Look up past insider trading and see if after some sanctimonious CEO and board of directors who decided on a get rich scheme did not affect you retirement account. I think all CEOs and anyone on the board of directors are overpaid and need to return all bonuses and perks until the US has a stable economy. Or do I have a warped view of the way it all works? For every ones information the way they calculate the unemployment figures is BASED on people who are actually drawing an unemployment check, not the ones who have lost their benefits or those denied unemployment because they were terminated with cause.
small business router security( regular home router)? We have a small business in a plaza which we have decided to open wifi up after having several customers ask about it. Me and my brother are both in IT but are trying a way to save money. Right now i have 2 extra routers at my disposal. both are older. one is a dlink wbr-1310 and the other is a belkin f5d6231-4.... i also have the router/modem supplied by AT&T which is a 2wire 2701hg-b. Gateway Intel Core i7-2600 Computer reviews? I was wondering if this computer is any good. I will only use it for entertainment basically, not for business and stuff. I can't really find any reviews on it, only ones of future shop.
Is"Best Buy"the biggest Rip Off or what? I bought a computer at best buy and I can honestly say I regret it so much. I 'm a student in college and this semester I was planning to take a online math class then I thought to myself what better way to start off the semester then to buy a new computer. The week before the Semester started I went down to best buy and bought a Gateway computer with warranty, it all came down to $749. This was a huge mistake. I regret ever doing business with them. Within 3 weeks my computer started displaying a "Blue Screen" on a daily basis and crashed constantly. It was to the point when it was just getting annoying so I took it to Best Buy to ask for an exchange but my request was rejected since the return policy was 14 days. Instead they sent me to week Geek squad to have the computer inspected. They took the computer in possession for 6 days and ran some test. They gave me a poor excuse for the computers Performance. They said I had it my anti-virus that was corrupt and needed to be reinstalled. This was such a miserable excuse cause it continued to go blue screen. Anyways I took it to geek squad AGAIN and they told me they will run more test but my warranty will not cover it which was a surprise to me because I'm basically paying to fix the defected computer they sold me. Anyways I ended up paying $200 so they can perform a "System Restore" and got my computer back. As soon as I got it home it went blue screen, After paying $749 for a computer with warranty plus $200 for them to do a "System Restore" I just about had it, I march down to best buy and demanded they give me a refund for the "System Restore" It was a huge Mess. They denied me the refund and I am sick of Best buy and their scams. I will never set foot in Best buy again. Thanks to them I fail far behind on my online class having to resort to using computers at the Public Library. The computer they sold me was a Nuisance, Nothing but a big pain in the @zz. Best buy basically rob me of $949. The bottom line Best Buy sold me a defected computer and then tells me to go screw myself. Honestly, Does Best even care about their customers cause their attitude just call out "Don't Care" at least that's what It seems to me Now Here is my question where can I buy a GOOD computer that will not cause me trouble?

Laptops for Business? Alright so my sister is looking for a laptop for college and were not sure what to get. She is going to major in business so were looking for a computer that will be good for business purposes. Something thats not ultra light but not heavy would be nice. I was looking at the Lenovo laptops. I have lost all faith in dell when it comes to laptops. How is gateway, we had a lot of those in school.
What kind of laptop should I get? What brands are good? In college I learned all about computers in order to buy mine, but Windows 98 was out then and much has changed, and the laptops I've had in between have been work issued and it wasn't my responsibility to purchase it. I want pretty basic functions- the ability to watch dvds, download music, good WiFi access, and all the basic Microsoft Office software that's good for business. I would not mind good photo editing software, but it isn't 100% mandatory as long as there's something. I don't play video games or do really intense high tech stuff. Here's the thing, the Gateway I have now has been a piece of crap that is too large and heavy to lug around, gets hot on to the point where when it's on my lap i put a pillow underneath, etc. etc. I want a brand I can trust not to punk out on me, but still have basic needs and a tight budget for this purchase. So, good brand, cheap model. I thought seriously about switching to Mac, but the ibook is expensive, and I want to compare it to PCs.
Why such a hatred for car salesmen/women? I just don't understand it, Please no hatred or vulgar outright hateful answers, just opinions please. I've been a salesperson at a dealership for over 3 years, have a wonderful family, a college education (currently working on masters), a modest home, community active, and go to church every Sunday. But I've read a bunch of articles lately about "how to screw the dealer" or "how to trick the dealer" and just downright nasty comments about guys like me. People say we "steal" money or only want the customers money. Well yeah, I def want you to buy a car because it means I get paid. Of course. But that's business. The lady who owns the hair salon wants you to buy so she can get rich. Sam Walton, owner of Wal-Mart practically perfected the art of profit making and "stealing" money from good Americans. The owner of the local grocery store, restaurant, cab company, it's all the same... THEY WANT YOUR MONEY! It's business. That is the ultimate goal, to turn a profit. Nobody haggles with the college kid at burger king over a whopper because they charge $3 for a burger and it only costs a little over a dollar to produce. Or what about a box of cereal that cost $0.49 to produce and can sell for almost $5.00. that's 10X the amount the cost of production, and I'm the thief?!? The average new vehicle has anywhere from 6-12% most of which calculates out to around $1800 worth of profit. Yeah, sounds like a lot of profit for just one item but the dealer is also buying Millions of dollars worth of inventory at a time. And is a minimal ratio compared to any other product. Or even consider the profit turned on real estate. I bet you didn't cry when you flipped your vacation home for a 25K dollar profit. I'm not a vulture, a sleazebag, convict, or thief in anyway or even considered by any friends or family as a dishonest or someone they can't trust. But constantly on a daily basis, I'm the bad guy because you want to buy a car from me with the money you've "stolen" from your clients, or customers, medical patients, or students. It's not stealing, it's basic economics and business. If automakers and dealerships weren't making money in even the least lucrative sense, there would be no cars period... or no goods or products at all in any industry in the same situation. Bottom line... I don't steal, nor does general mills cereal, or gateway computers. We all have a service or product which people want or need, that must turn a profit to continue.... If you cannot agree with any of this please leave an answer on why I'm still the bad guy and please leave any ignorant or abusive comments to yourself. Thanks
Is Gateway a reliable brand and will this computer meet our needs? My husband and I recently bought a new Gateway M-6750 laptop from Best Buy for $749. Was this a good deal? Here are the specs: Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T5450 3072MB DDR2 memory 2 DDR2 slots (total), 0 DDR2 slots (available) Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator X3100 with up to 384MB of dynamic video memory 250GB hard drive Other: http://www.gateway.com/retail/notebooks.php These are our familys' needs: some business accounting applications, basic word processing, desktop publishing, and photo editing. Also web browsing and possibly playing games. It also comes with Windows Vista Home Premium, which I've heard is a resource hog and still has a lot of kinks. I'm a little weary of all the negative reviews. In terms of speed, will it be slow? Will we need to upgrade anything in order to play games? Or, should we just return it and go with a mac? I'm technologically challenged, so feel free to talk down to me in your answers. :) Thanks! Thanks for taking the time to reply guys! These are really informative answers. Forrest, what's an over-requirement profile? Is that good or bad? Remember, I’m a bit technologically challenged. Slo_gin007, if Vista becomes too aggravating for me, do you think I would experience any problems downgrading to XP? I’ve read about others having very frustrating experiences during the process. Mamachula, thanks for the tip about Cnet.com! I’ll check that out. I agree that macs are pricey. I've never used one, but everyone who owns one seems to give them glowing reviews. They say they're more stable and secure and that everything "plays nice" together - not as many errors and hunting for drivers. Plus, they do seem to have some really cool software. But, yeah, they're really expensive!
I am having trouble with my PCAngel installed on my computer. Can anyone help? I have a Gateway ML3109. I am running Windows Vista Business, and the Recovery is on another partition of a hard disc. This particular hard disc is protected with PC angel, and i cannot access the files. Any help? I was thinking of a free third party program because i want those files!

How do I connect to my Linskeys ADSL Gateway router? This is a follow on to my last posted question. Thanks to all of you who answered it. But, alas, everything you suggested has failed. I tried typing in http://192.168.1.1 into my browser but all I get is an Internet connection error message saying that my browser can't find the webpage. [ why its looking for a webpage in the first place is baffling me! A webpage is not a router!] Anyway, another suggestion was to follow the wizard that sets up a home or small business network. Well, that was the first thing I tried. I did it manually on both my desktop and laptop in th hope of the two computers being able to see each other. Nada!! Zilch! Zero! When I open My Network Places, on each computer, apart from the Options down the left hand side, all I see is a blank page. I created a shared folder on my desktop in the hope that it would be visible on my laptop. Nope!! Just lots of white space. I re-ran the wizard 3 times, with the same result. Now, both computers are connecting quite happily to the Internet. I just can't understand why they can't see each other. When I type in the IP address of the router into the browser, I'm supposed to see a log-in dialogue box that asks for the user name and password. But I never get that far. I'm completely stumped. Any other suggestions guys [ or gals] ?

why is my computer constantly getting Malware/Spyware? (detailed info in the message)? I own a Gateway computer that is roughly 3 years old. About 1 year ago I started having problems with spyware/malware appearing. Also it should be known that I use this computer for is work and personal use. I DO NOT browse any adult websites whatsoever. I mainly browse mainstream websites (news, sports, etc.) as well as some message board forums. I have Avira as my antivirus protection and for spyware I have spybot search and destroy and Adware. I run all 3 of those protection programs at least once every 2 weeks to scan for problems. However, despite having all of this protection it doesn't matter because at least once every 3-6 months my computer gets completely infected with malware or some other type of spyware. I am forced to do complete system restores at least 2-3 times a year now. Again, like I mentioned above I do not browse adult sites so I am clueless as to how my computer is constantly getting infected. Could I possibly be picking them up from message board forums that I go to? I RARELY download anything and if I do it is usually image files for my small business. Any help is appreciated as to what more I can do to prevent malware attacks or any idea as to what could be the cause. Thanks
Should I get a Gateway M-7844u or HP dv7-1245dx laptop? Ok I'm getting a laptop that will be used mostly for school right now but Im hoping to use it to run a small business in the future. Internet doesn't work sometimes? Comcast SMC Business Gateway. 2 switches 16-port each, have 13 hosts on one switch and 15 on another. Every so often, like maybe once a month, none of the computers on the local network can access the internet. I have pinged google.com with no answer. I have pinged the default gateway with no answer. When I unplug the router, wait like 5 minutes, plug it back in, everybody has internet again. Then it will mess up again in about a month or so. This cycle has been going on for about 6 months. Anyone have an idea that I can try? Please help. Thank you....

I am 21, laid off and thinking of going back to school, am I too old? Due to financial and personal reasons I left High School when I was 17 to provide for my family. Ever since then I have worked at many jobs-many of them menial-to provide for them and to, of course, support myself. Overall I succeeded at them considering my work ethic and my ability to always go above and beyond what is asked of me. However, with the recent economic situation in the United States, I was one of many employees to be laid off and now I feel lost as to what I should do. When I was 20 I earned my GED but only used it as a gateway to promotion, never considering that I could use it for more which I now view as a serious error on my part. I'm now 21, close to 22 and feel as though I could never succeed at a academic level, never mind the fact that I feel too old to go back to school. But with many employers looking for candidates with a good educational background I feel that as a person it would benefit me to go back to school, earn a degree in what I would like to do, and then go back and join the workforce. My question is this, am I too old to go back to school? With only a GED in hand would I be able to succeed in school if I work as hard in studying as I did in many of the jobs I had? If I do study should I go for a degree in business or computers which is what I would like to take on as a career? Any help figuring this out would be appreciated.
Which computer is better in OVERALL PERFORMANCE, lenovo, gateway, or hp? Hi, i am planning on buying a pretty stable, fast, reliable, and basic media enabled laptop for home. The laptops i am confused to buy are the Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E520 11433BU, the Gateway NV55C38u, or the HP 630 LV970UT. They are all going to be the same price when i buy either one of them, so i dont care about the price too much. Just wondering on whats better overall in terms or durability, reliability, fast processor, and just able to do basic media entertainment like Youtube HD, and VLC good enough. I know lenovo is more business oriented, but the thought that it can be very reliable at home then too. For Gateway, reviews say that the laptop is surprisingly good, but i dont know about the company itself and its reliability after facing its bankruptcy. And for HP, i hear a lot about the laptop with screen corruption/shutdown/freeze due to battery overheating all the time. I have an old Dell Inspirion, so im switching brands to see what's better. What do you think?
Will i have to up my power supply in my computer? I am looking to get a new video card for my computer and i was told that i might have to increase my power supply. This is the video card that i am looking at to get. (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814150249) Right now i have an older computer, it's a 2002 Gateway with windows vista business on it. The power supply right now is 160w output. I know my computer basics and am good with computers but i just want to double check on this.

How much will I spend for these upgrades to my laptop computer? I have a Gateway Solo 5300 laptop computer. I want to replace the fan inside (It's way too noisy), increase the RAM from 128 to 256, swap out the CD ROM for a DVD Rom, and replace the 10 gig. hard drive with something basic...maybe just 20 gig. I intend to take this to one of those local homegrown computer businesses. I'd also like them to transfer all of my programs from the old hard drive to the new....not from the disks, but just a direct transfer hd to hd. How much do you think I'll have to spend for this?
Sound isn't working on my laptop at all - how do I fix it? Alright I have a business grade Gateway laptop. I was listening to music yesterday and all of sudden the sound stopped working completely. How do I get internet access at my Grandparents house? 10 pts for best answer!!!!? Over The weekend, I will be headed to my grandparents house for 4 days. My parents are going to some business seminar and felt it was necessary to leave me under the protection of two 70 year old's :P So, I would like to bring my computer (gateway netbook) to their home to do homework. Internet crashes on a daily basis? Our internet crashes on a daily basis. Often it happens more than once a day. We have Comcast Internet services in Michigan, a Motorola Surfboard SB4200 modem, which is connected to a Belkin Gateway router. This affects my husband's business processes, as he sometimes looses data when the connection drops out. It is also annoying to have to reset it continuously. The cable company has suggested that it may be the router. After dealing with this for quite some time, we thought we might be able to check to see whether the modem is malfunctioning, by connecting the computer up to the modem, directly, on a weekend so that my husband does not suffer business loss during the week. Any ideas of why this might keep happening would be appreciated. We reset the modem by disconnecting power to the modem and then to the router. After reconnection of the cables/wires, the internet resets, and works, again. Ideas?
Computer to computer to internet.? My Windows Vista Business laptop is a Gateway laptop. My brother's Compaq Presario has Windows XP Professional. My laptop has internet, but my brother's doesn't. He keeps complaining for me (the family's most technical person) to connect the two computers with an ethernet cable and hopefully get internet for his computer. I however, use a wireless connection to obtain internet. Is it possible for that to happen? If so, please tell me how to obtain internet for my brother's computer through mine. P.S. I know about the usb wireless connector, but I want to try my theory before purchasing the $30 dollar device. P.S.S. I am sorry if this thing sounds boring to you, but I am just curious. (10 points to first answer to work!)
Need Common Practices guidelines? Looking for a list or guide for "Common Practices" regarding TCP/IP, WAN, LAN and WLAN networking. I have a small business with about 10 computers on it. Using a Sonicwall TZ-170 Wireless for router. Server is crap, individual(s?) who fiddled with it never installed anything right. Printers are on funky addresses. I need to map everything. Used LANsurveyor, works good. Changed all computer names so its easy to read and keep track of. All computers pulling Dynamic addresses from my DHCP client working in the Sonicwall. Had ISP change my dynamic to Static IP, so the ranges and gateway information is not up to date on the Server for its DHCP function to work. Planning on replacing it soon anyways. I need to get a general idea of 192.168.X.X formatting for in-house IP's. Someone mentioned to me that .1.2-.1.10 would be for External servers, .11-.20 for this, and so on. I know this must be general knowledge to IT guys, recommendations? I will post again so keep an eye out for me.
What is the best computer company? I've recently had a horrific long-term experience with Gateway (owned by Acer) which, in fact, I'm still going through. I haven't bought a computer since, say, 2002, and I'm horrified at how terrible computer companies have become -- specifically Gateway and Acer who I pledge to NEVER buy from again. It seems that every computer company has their support in India where they don't train the people, and it also seems that the parts used in computers today are cheap, cheap, cheap and defective. I'll be going to college soon, and I want a computer that's: 1) first and foremost, reliable, and won't quit on me like this Gateway laptop has. 2) I don't want to buy from some company like Gateway or Acer where they couldn't give a **** for their customers -- where they have their support in India, and are secretive when it comes to their corporate and repair facility phone number out of fear of customer backlash. I'd like to buy from a company that actually cares about their customers, and preferably has support here in the United States, or at least close to it. And, of course, support where the people won't chew your head off just for calling. Might anyone have any recommendations as to where to take my business to? I've heard terrible things about HP, Dell, Gateway, Acer... the whole shebang. I'm not looking for perfection; just which is better than the rest.
Problems with trying to join Windows XP client machines to a Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition Server.? Ok, some background information. I am a business education teacher who HAS to get his lab up ASAP. Our tech is not available as he is working on the new phone systems in a brand new building and so this is all up to me. We have a brand new Dell PowerEdge SC1430 server running Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition. I have 30 Dell client computers running Windows XP Professional. All 30 of these machines have been completely reloaded and have nothing on them but Windows and the correct drivers. Now, when I try to join the domain, 50% of the computers join the domain without hesitation or error, but the other 50% are throwing the following error... "The following occurred attempting to join the domain "Student" The specified network name is no longer available. Please note these machines are able to connect to the internet, and I can ping both the server and the gateway. If anyone has a clue why these wont join, please advise!!
Best answer, easy 10 points: Help me find best computer to use w/ speech recognition/hands-free technology? Best answer = easy 10 points. Hi everyone : ) I have many severe conditions, incl., quickly-advancing Rheumatoid Arthritis, Fibromyalgia as well as also a vocal cord and breathing disorder, so I really *do* need help finding a computer with speech recognition/hands free computing software to buy to help minimize the pain. I’ve been searching for months, I’m stymied and appreciate your help immensely. For the best answer I’m offering 10 points : ) Here’s the Wiki to bring all up to speed on this kind of software: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Speech_recognition (A tiny background, my exp. w/ Dragon Beta on a Sony laptop long about 10 yrs ago—horrible! It didn’t work. It couldn’t understand me, but typed *pages* when the dog barked, lol! The computer was PAINFULLY SLOW AND COMPLETELY INACCURATE and had “ghosts”—multi images of programs overlapping and none of the working : ) ) As such, I’m thinking a high-performance, possibly gaming computer, might overcome what was lacking before, most likely a desktop...although, I’ve NO gaming aspirations, too painful. I do enjoy photography, browsing the internet and listening to music (maybe transferring my LPs to MP3s) though (I’ve heard buying an external hard drive for this might be the best way to go for computer efficiency, what do you think? All in all, I’m hoping that *you know best*! : ) Because I’ve had to scrimp and save for well over 5-6 yrs (plus family help,) *this computer MUST last as long as absolutely possible*, b/c it will take longer than that to afford another. The Guidelines: Replies *only* from people who are severely handicapped with hand/arm disabilities and *must* use such a program themselves or other severely disabled persons, Esp. persons who have the above disorders, as well as equally limiting disabilities pertaining, esp. to the hands, arms and voice who REQUIRE voice-recognition typing programs *or* persons having, long-standing, *verifiable*, personal experience REQUIRING THEM to use a voice or speech-driven voice command/typing programs on a computer (for ex: maybe you’re a dyslexic doctor or something, that would be great, since I, too, have a special vocabulary it needs to understand.) Sounds harsh, sorry about that, but I need an answer from someone with an intimate and detailed knowledge of this software and how it works with computers. The Entire High Performance Computer System *MUST* COST LESS THAN $1200 (the more under cost you come, while still fulfilling *all* needs = best chance you’ll win.) Must have *amazingly* good reasons to go even a few hundred above (see above re: scrimping & saving.) The ENTIRE system *must* come from a highly reputable company (be COMPLETE and ready “out of the box”, no customizing, *monitor* MUST come *with* the entire computer pkg.) and must contain (but not be limited to...) Hardware: Dual to Quad core processors, 19” monitor INCLUDED, 4GB DDR2 memory (minimum), 320GB(minimum) hard drive, reads and writes all forms of media, including dual-layer CDs and DVDs, high-end GPU (preferably dedicated on a video card) to handle rapid text/commands, have also heard Direct X10 + may be useful in multimedia capabilities. Monitor doubles as digital t.v.*at no additional cost* with *no* additional software required (opt. the ability to also record t.v.) Please, *no* wireless mice or keyboards (I hear they eat through batteries,) as well as the usual, quality speakers, great USB and other ports, like memory card reader, etc; webcam nice but not essential, same w/ printer. PREFERENCE TO PCs. Very positive experiences with Gateways (haven’t tried voice software on them, though,) as noted above, Quite negative exp. w/ Sony. Absolutely NO DELLS! Software: FULL VOICE-RECOGNITION/TYPING/NAVIGATION SOFTWARE ALREADY INSTALLED, READY TO GO; Windows Vista Home Premium, *MUST* have complete versions of software,*no test versions* of anything! Otherwise, I’m open-minded & have access to XP programs. IT/Technical Support: None of this, “We don’t support third-party software” business, even though the computer company has the software already installed out of the box. Essential that it’s really good, intelligent people who know all aspects of the product (esp. voice software) and provide Service and Tech Support for as long as possible that make a computer worth buying.(a company that doesn’t stand behind it’s product is worthless.) Without Support and Service, I might as well be buying an *extremely expensive*, ire-invoking paperweight, which I won’t do.) (Dragon/Nuance software’s tech calls were once a minimum of $30 or more each---I’m not going for that again in any way, shape or form (sorry to sound harsh, but to beat all, at the time, they hadn’t even *answers*! For that kind of money.) Alright, so that’s as much as I know about computers and what I really need : ) I know their are others out there (hopefully some of you) who are much more knowledgeable, both about real Give me a minute to make this more succinct... The Guidelines: Replies *only* from people who are severely handicapped with hand/arm disabilities and *must* use speech recognition type/command programs themselves or have equally limiting disabilities who REQUIRE voice-recognition typing programs. ALL OTHERS: MUST have verifiable, *extensive*, *intimate* knowledge USING such software REGULARLY, *particularly* how *exactly* it works and what it requires of computers. The Entire High Performance Computer System from HIGHLY REPUTABLE COMPANY *MUST* COST LESS THAN $1200 (Good reasons? I might spend more.) PCs Preferred. Positive exp. w/ Gateways (have not tried such software on them, however) No Sonys, NO DELLs. ENTIRE system *must* be COMPLETE and ready “out of the box”, no customizing. next... Hardware: Dual to Quad core processors, 19” monitor INCLUDED, 4GB-5GB memory, 320GB-750GB hard drive, reads and writes all forms of media, including dual-layer CDs and DVDs, high-end GPU (preferably dedicated on a video card) to handle rapid text/commands, possible Direct X10 may be useful in multimedia capabilities. Monitor *MUST COME WITH COMPUTER* and double as digital t.v.*at no additional cost* with *no* additional software required, opt. the ability to also record t.v. 19” screen *minimum* SHARP resolution, deep color saturation. NOTHING WIRELESS. Quality speakers, multiple memory reader a *plus*, quality speakers, webcam—nice; printer, optional. Software: FULL VOICE-RECOGNITION/TYPING/NAVIGATION SOFTWARE ALREADY INSTALLED, READY TO GO; Windows Vista Home Premium, *MUST* have complete versions of software,*no test versions*! (If Dragon recommended, must come under total cost.) next... IT/Technical Support: Essential, Intelligent and FREE. Must support 3rd party software that *they* installed by default. MUST—in-depth knowledge of speech-recognition software. *Computer MUST last as long as absolutely possible*

Weird Computer Start up Problem? I am actually really good with computers as I grew up with my brother who is now a computer technician who owns his own business, but this latest problem has me baffled. Just my regular xp computer. When it starts up it would go to the usual gateway start up screen, then click to the windows start up screen, and then click to the blue sign in screen. But now all of a sudden, it goes to the gateway screen and clicks to a black screen. Nothing, just back, and stays like this for up to an hour and a half. Then suddenly click to the blue sing in screen. It's is a clean well maintained computer. Has all the updates and virus software and all that good stuff. Any idea's to what my problem could be?? Anything would help!! Thanks So Much!

Getting "Error printing" when printing with HP C5180 all-in-one printer? Okay, here is the deal. I will try to be as clear as I can be. I use Vista. My computer is a Gateway. I have a HP printer Photosmart All-In-One by HP and it's a model C5180. I couldn't install the printer with the program given by HP because it was stalling at the point where I plugged in the USB cable in the computer, as if the computer was not detecting the printer. So I decided to go in the Control Panel, then Printers, then I chose "Add Printer" and used the disk to intall my C5100 series. It looked like it did install it. Now, when I try to print, I get a "Error Printing" message and the pages I want to print are in queue. When I click the printer Properties and then Ports, I get Ports LPT1 and 2 and 3 and also COM1 and 2 and 3 and 4. When trying to delete the ports, I get "Selected port can not be deleted. The request is not supported". I have tried all the pages for support on hp.ca and talked to 5 representants online. Help. I need that printer for business...
What is the best processor/Desktop PC? I just bought a new computer recently, I got it at a very good price, it runs fine, but I want better. I download a lot of music, RPGs, movies, and I am a big multitasker, since I run most of my business online. I don't know much about these new computers, any help will be appreciated. The computer I purchased is a Gateway AMD Phenom X4 Processor 1.8ghz, 4gig memory, 640HD. For $600 including a 19'' flat monitor, and a nice printer, I couldn't resist. But I am looking into buying a new one. I only need the CPU, My budget is $600-$700. Thank you

Reinstalled OS sucks? So thanks to some glorious Adware I had to reinstall my windows vista OS on my Gateway M6750 laptop earlier and before I reinstalled it the computers rating was a 3.7 and now that i've reinstalled it it's a 1.0 and it says the 1.0 rattings are on graphis: Desktop preformance for windows aero and Gaming Graphics: 3d business and gamning graphics preformance, and since both of thse were 3.7s before I had to reinstall everything, what do i need to install to make it back to the higher rating?
Adding Dell laptop to domain? Ok here is the scenario. I do volunteer work at a free clinic that supplies free medical services to low income families. They have a small network consisting of a single Windows 2003 server setup as a domain. There is a DSL modem, a D Link gateway, and a D Link 8 port switch. There are 7 client computers running Windows XP Pro. All of these client computers are working perfectly. Here is the problem. I have a Dell laptop running XP Pro that I would like to have access to the network as I sometimes work from home and would like to transfer that work to the server. At present I have to save all my work on a thumb drive and upload it to one of the client computers and then transfer it to the server. This way is very time consuming. The clinic has a business administrator but no network administrator since the former administrator moved on to a different position elsewhere. What can I do to get connected?

I have a Dell computer and when I want to upgrade what's a good computer to upgrade to? I'm not going to upgrade right now, but I'm wondering whether my next computer should be a Dell. I don't do too much gaming [I use my computer more for entertainment, but would like the option to game and the upgradability. I've looked at the XPS 435, but the power supply is too weak. I've heard dell is getting out of the gaming business. What is a good option? HP? Gateway? Which model? I will be using Windows 7. I want an i7 processor and the most memory (RAM) upgradability.

Virus in BIOs? please read? My computer broke down, it started going slow, i got blue screen, and things were getting out of hand. So i reformat my Hard drive but i cant copy windows xp to it, some of the system files will not copy. So from there everything is a mess, and i cant even go to the setting up windows xp part without getting an error and giving me no opition but to force shut down.I've brought a new hard drive and i've gotten the same problem, i reformat both hard drive and installed windows xp completely on a different computer then moved it to my PC. This works but as soon as i restart it about 3 times, it deletes or "terminates" a system file, cause it to go on a loop of restarting itself over and over...I even installed an anti virus and updated it, when i ran a scan i got no infection, i used three different programs all same results. i checked for confiker on mircosoft website and the scan didnt find it...All this leads me to believe that my BIOS must be infected with a virus. -I have a gateway GT5404 -No Floppy Drive -Warrenty over so no phone service -No money to be ripped off by a Tech also -Compusa stole our CD that came with the computer and they went out of business - I do have USB and flash drives Is there anything i can do to clear out my BIOs and get my computer up and running again... Much thanks in advance
Computer operates Veeeerrry slow! Any clues? I have a Gateway MX8738 and am running Windows Vista. It has 2 512mb memory cards and 160GB HD. Unfortunately, due to my business work I am required to browse several internet pages at once. I use Mozilla Firefox, and over half the time my computer acts extremely slow! Often Firefox does not respond, and often if I click on a link it may take up to ten minutes for the program to work again and the button get clicked! Am I running too little memory? What in the Hell is happening? I am also running Webroot Spy sweeper and it is coming back clean (with the occasional aception of a couple of low risk threats). Just put in hard drive (#10 in a year!!!) three weeks ago. 121G free of 149.
How do I clean up this mess that a Trojan horse left behind? I recently managed to find and get rid of a Win32/Alureon.XN infection using CA Antivirus, but while the source of my previous problems (unable to use Windows Update, unable to access certain parts of Microsoft.com or antivirus websites) has apparently gone away, it has left behind a couple problems I still need to fix. First off, I still get something strange happening when I use Internet Explorer to search through Google. No matter what I search for on Google, about a third of the results (even with sites I recognize) will redirect me to some random ad pages (rogue antivirus, business deals, and all sorts of potentially dangerous nonsense). Sometimes I can hit the back button and click the link again, then it will take me to where I'm supposed to go. I tried to fix this by upgrading to Internet Explorer 8, but same issue. Again, this only seems to be affecting Google through the IE browser; I also have Google Chrome and Firefox, and neither of those have the same problem. Can someone tell me how to fix this (and don't just tell me to stop using IE, I actually want to fix it if I can)? Also, one of the first things that the Trojan had me do (I was still unaware the computer was infected at the time) was have me reinstall my HP printer. Now the "old installation" of the printer is always shown as "offline" under my Printers folder, but the new "(Copy 1)" version of the printer is up, and seems for the most part to work just fine. However, it now has different security settings on there so I can't change anything (I have compared the two installations' Properties windows side-by-side and confirmed they are different). Also, today I was printing off some GIFs and picture-containing Word documents for my AP Biology class from the website our district has set up, but after it printed the first two pages of pictures, the printer suddenly went nuts; it started spooling off literally HUNDREDS of pages with nothing but random gibberish near the top of each one. The only way I was able to stop it was to unplug my printer's power and cancel all of the documents, and when I reconnected it to continue printing the rest of my pictures, it did so with no further problems. However, I fear it may only be a matter of time before the next episode, so I want to know how I should go about getting that cleared up, too. Finally, my computer uses a wireless card to access our DSL gateway for Internet access, but lately it has been having a hard time getting the Internet to work after being started up. I can still get it to work, but only after about half an hour of trying everything to reestablish the connection each time I start the machine, but after that it seems to work just fine. Before the computer was infected, its connection was a lot more reliable than this. Any ideas there might be of help to me, as well. BTW, my computer is a homebuilt Windows Vista SP1 machine. I keep running CA Antivirus and Anti-spyware (these were expensive programs, I'd like to keep using them and not freeware third-party stuff if I can help it), and Windows Defender, but they keep coming up clean, so I'm guessing either the computer still has a very well hidden infection somewhere, or the Trojan must have changed some settings all over the place and they were left that way when it was removed. If someone could tell me which settings I may want to look at and check, I'd be grateful for it. Sorry about the question length; I just wanted to be thorough in describing my situation. I'm NOT using that malwarebytes stuff. As I said, I've got antivirus already installed, and I'm not about to just drop it and get something free that may come with its own problems. I just want tips in actually fixing these problems, not just throwing another program at random at it. I know some people who are good with computers, and they said that "pieces" of the Trojan must not have been deleted fully when the antivirus found it. They recommended AdAware and Spybot, which I plan on using. For the most part, my computer still works perfectly fine except for the very specific problems I have mentioned.
Gateway Laptop Repairs Help? I have to send my gateway laptop in for repairs. My charger port is broken, and my laptop is dead so I can't get the files off of it. I figured when I sent it in for repairs, since the problem is nothing to do with my hard drive, I could just take the hard drive out before sending it in. But when I called, the man asked me if my laptop had a login password (it doesn't). I have a lot of problems with this. Why do they need my password? They have no business logging onto my computer. I don't have my files backed up and I've heard a lot of people say computer people reformat your hard drive when you send them in for repairs. I also have personal information on my laptop and I do not trust these people not to look through it and steal it. Can anyone who has experience with situations like this help me? Will there be a problem if I just remove my hard drive before sending it in? They have no reason to even turn the computer on, all they need to do is fix the charger port.
How can I move files from a Hard drive to a Laptop/ Desktop? The Wife's Laptop has just crashed and burned, It won't even start up anymore. We're sending it to get repaired but the problem is they wipe out all the info while repairing it setting to factory settings and all that lovely noise. Problem is she has a lot of business files on her Hard Drive. I am not computer Savvy but I'm pretty sure I cant just pop out my HD from her Laptop (Which is a Vista running Gateway M-6750) to mine (Which is a Vista running Dell Inspiron 1525), run it and just burn those files. That'd be too easy, right?. Anyway I can run her hard drive on an external device and just copy everything from there onto my Laptop or a PC? Is there such a thing for running a HD on an external device?
Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!................................? My Microsoft Calendar isn't working. I click the icon and the outline of the calendar comes up, but I can see my desktop picture instead of the calendar, but I can print a hard copy of the calendar. I just can only see the outline on the monitor. I tried to do a system restore, but that won't work either (have a Gateway). What else can I do. I need the calender to schedule appointments for my husbands business. HELP! None of my other programs seem to be effected. This happened one other time, but I did a system restore and it fixed the problem. I don't know what else to do to fix it. I'm only marginally computer literate, so if you can tell me what to do in the easiest way possible, too, please. Thanks I just tried updating, but it didn't work. But thanks for trying!
I want a new laptop. Which is better option? ? I posted earlier a question between a Gateway and an HP. The HP was the most voted. Has anyone recived an email from World Creative Studios? Stating that they are an internet based company etc. and they want me to be a Manager for them in the US to develope US customers, it is working from home... the only thing that makes me wonder is he writes backs answers to my detailed questions, it's not some generic based e-mail. But any work from home offer seems to good to be true. This is what he wrote last: Thank you for your reply. In this email I will explain you about this job offer. Also I forward you our Instructions, FAQ and Agreement. Use Adobe Acrobat Reader to view the above files. If you do not have this software on your computer, please go to http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html and download the program for free. Our company enters the american market now because almost all online business are located in the USA. So we have to search managers in the USA to create our subsidiaries. Our Marketing Department has developed a perfect idea to boost sales. The idea is to have more subsidiaries that would resell our items (for example web-templates). The more subsidiaries we have the more things we sell and our profit grows accordingly. Your mission in the project is to create business tools (registering a business, setting up business and merchant bank accounts) and it is for these services that you will be paid. World Creative Studio, Inc., Inc. creates a web-site (online store or subsidiary another words) which will sell our products (webtemplates, flash intro and web logos). The work of this web site is impossible without a company and that's why your first step will be the opening of company (the company may be registered as a Corporation, LLC, Sole Proprietorship or other business entity). If you already have a company, it's great and will make the start up yet faster. Next you open bank business and merchant account and Gateway on Authorize.net. Your commission will be 10% from all the sales (you'll earn about $4000-5000 a month). Also all bank and merchant fees will be paid by our company. You will get your 10% in any case not depending what fees we will have. Your income will increase as the business progresses. You will be responsible to pay taxes only on your 10% commission; the rest taxable 90% is the responsibility of World Creative Studio, Inc., Inc. You will need the W-2 form or 1099 for taxes. Find out about it and you will see that you will be responsible only for your 10%. Add here absolute transparence of all partnership activities and full control in your hands. If you are interested you need to do next: You need to send the signed agreement, the copy of your ID (it can be just DL) and copy of your any utility bill. You can send all these documents or to this email either by fax (708) 842-8482. If you have any questions please ask me. Best regards, Kamil Kowalski Hello Danielle, How are you? Do you interest to our offer of job? I hoped you will be the good manager. If you refuse, write the cause of denial, please. Best regards, Kamil Kowalski
Someone suggested a desktop, instead of a laptop for me to use. How do I know what's a "good" desktop for me? I've always used a laptop, but recently my laptop died and a friend suggested I buy a desktop instead, since I mainly use the computer only for home use. Majority of the computer is used for business [quick books, inventory, etc.], writing, internet use, pictures and music. My last laptop had a 40gb hard drive and I crashed it, so I need something much larger then that. Any suggestions on what a decent desktop would be [if a desktop is a good choice for me, I mean, if not - then what would be a decent laptop?]. Is there a "best" brand of computer? Also, price range would be $1,000.00 or less [preferably less lol]. Oh, and Gateways seem to hate me, so please don't suggest any of those. Thanks! I'm not sure what other information you would need to give a suggestion, but if you need anything else, you can either ask in the question [and I'll edit my question and answer] or you can IM / e-mail me. =D Thank you very much!
No internet access for SBS workstation? In a domain running Windows' Small Business Server Backoffice (NT 4.0), I reinstalled a workstation (XP Pro) because it was infected with viruses, but after the workstation has been installed with XP Pro and added to the domain with the same computer name (via system properties->change), it would not allow Internet access when logged in with the user's account, but it allowed internet access when logged in using other user's account, Can anyone advice how I can fix this? The TCP/IP gateway address for the network is configured to use the server's IP, so i'm thinking that the server is restricting internet access for this user, even thought internet access has been granted for this user under 'more tasks' tab On the server running Small Business server Backoffice, (NT 4.0), The icons located under SBS Console's 'tasks' Tab does not show up, but the icons under 'more tasks' task does show up.

Computer warranty repair Problem? Okay, i have posted this question before but i really didn't get the answers i was looking for. long story short... I bought a Gateway notebook on April 10th this year from Best Buy. On May 12th, the notebook developed a problem with the LCD screen where the backlight wouldn't work when on battery power. so i called gateway and they walked me through some stuff and determined that the backlight cable needed to be replaced. they sent me a box to return the notebook. i sent it in. they recieved my notebook on may 19th. it is now june 23rd and i've called about 2 dozen times and have gotten the same answer. i even called their so called "cooporate" number and they gave me the same crap as well. as of yesterday, they say it's going to be another, yes another 7 to 10 business days which is what they've said 3 times already. My question is, what is the industry/legal standard for warranty repair? if there is one. i've asked for a new replacement and they won't do it. Okay, here’s what they have been saying from about business day 5. The part that my notebook needs is on back order and they are waiting for it to arrive from the great country of China. I have been told several different times that the part should be here on x date. So I call back on that date and they are like, “oh no. It’ll be here on this date.” I am waiting for a part that they should have had in stock in the first place. That is my beef. They can’t give me a straight answer on when it will be in. They keep brushing it off to the supplier. I haven’t looked at the warranty in depth as the new notebooks come with that info on the notebook in a PDF file. Lot of good that does me when I have to send it in. I’m sure I can get a copy off the gateway website. But it states that they can only replace the laptop with a comparable unit only if gateway feels it’s un-repairable. Of course that is a very broad term. I just looked at the warranty from gateway and no where does it indicate a time frame that warranty repairs will be done. it does however say that gateway will do one of the following: 1 replace with a new or refurb part, 2 replace entire unit with equal value unit or 2 refund less depreciation. Of course, all of theses options are at Gateway’s discretion and there is no way for us to know what determines how a case is handled. Really crappy. And yes, I will never ever buy a gateway product again. I will tell everyone I know not to buy a gateway. I wouldn’t even wish my worst enemy to buy a gateway. I have already purchased a Toshiba and I love it to death. Not because it works but because I know Toshiba is at the top of the heap for quality. I just need my gateway back to I can sell it.
