Customer service support for Gateway computers? Please read my question, “What has happened to Gateway products and support? I noticed others were unhappy with Gateway support and products. Any others? You would think for the price you pay the service would be better. I can’t deal with being on the telephone or on –line for hours just to reach customer service or technical support. I can’t deal with people I can not even understand. I don’t want a Tech who tells me to mail in my laptop or desktop as a means of resolving technical issues. I can’t let go of my computer for several weeks because Gateway stopped using a local contractor for minor repairs and service.

What computer company has the best customer service ? I have a gateway computer which im going to throw out? because gateway has THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE I HAVE EVER SEEN. They want to do everything online by email and they dont even respond. To talk with them on the phone they charge you $50 dollars for like 30 mins ??? what the heck is wrong with them ?

What computer companies has great customer service and has great desktops? I know Macs are great but what? other companies are great. Please do not mention Gateway or Dell. They are the worst with customer service.

I bought my Gateway notebook computer from Best Buy, does anyone know where i can find the serial number? I purchased my computer about 3 years ago from Best Buy, the sticker on the bottom has rubbed off and I've tried several computer programs such as Belarc, Everest, etc to try to obtain my serial number and none of them work. My model is MT6451. Gateway customer service won't help me without my serial #. On a side note: the reason I need Gateway support is b/c my computer keeps giving me an error that my version of Windows Vista is not genuine (when i bought the computer, it already had Vista pre-installed on it). I've tried everything from trying to activate Vista, doing a system restore, and nothing is resolving the issue. I don't want my computer to shut down on me. If anybody knows how to fix the Vista issue, then the help is greatly appreciated also.

Gateway told me that my computer (which is not custom) is waiting on a part to ship, but? I was told that warehouse computers are just sitting in warehouses (or on shelves) waiting to be shipped out.The gateway woman told me this was not true. I argued with the gateway woman that this information was true, but she said my PC is waiting on a part for it to be built. My computer was not custom and they got my order on the 11th and are stating that this part is holding them back from production, but if you go to any of the retail websites, this computer is still for sale with no out of stock near it. or extended delivery date. What should I tell Gateway Customer Service? I know they are screwing me around and I want my computer!

Gateway brand computer any good or it's worth buying it? I already know that customer service for gateway is crap and not even worth contacting it, but the things which I am desperate to know if gateway laptop are good as good as toshiba and hp or even sonny those brands are fantastic I heard. But the think is that when I was at the store the people there in future shop told me that the best brand to store up music and watch movies is gateway although I never in my life had any laptop but my family had HP computer that after 5 years is still working like it's new I even don't know what to think of. I want a laptop that is good and people said in the store that gateway was better than anything else even better than sony. I was not thinking about mac because I do have an ipod touch and I do not want to be a "maniac shopper" on apple stuffs also because it wouldn't be comparable with different things I want to do such as listening music and other stuffs, but I do know that Mac computers are good to death. They are soo good so that's why they are so God damn expensive!!!!! I hope after time they won't be so expensive when they won't be so expensive than that's when I would be buying them for sure.

Not a wireless internet but when I wanted to find any wireless network at house it's always said on my ipod touch that it's my laptop that has wireless internet (but in truth it didn't have because I didn't signed it yet). So what do you think of gateway compturs????? Gateway refuses to replace a computer that cannot seem to be repaired? I purchased this Gateway desktop from Bestbuy , it is because I wanted a fully functioning system and so far I have not received what I purchased. it has not worked since day one, it has been over seven months and my desktop has never fully functioned.I sent the tower to them twice ,same problem all over again.I work from home and not working my computer has put a real strain on my budget.I have spoke with poorest customer service reps. Gateway has now made me its standard offer to replace the defective computer with a rebuilt one. I don't know what to do? please tell me!!!

Anyone else have a bad experience with emachines customer service? We had a brand new computer go out after less than 8 hours of use - ordered a replacement part from emachines on their LiveChat and have been jerked around ever since - and still have no part - can't tell us if part has shipped or not; if it is back-ordered or how much longer we have to wait - even spoke to live people twice with same results - they even tried to sell me an upgrade - on the computer that doesn't work in the first place? Also has anyone experienced the power supply unit overheating on a new T3504? Do the PSU's go out a lot on these machines? What's with emachines - it's almost like they don't want to keep customers - I got the same run around when I contacted Gateway which owns emachines

what have you done about the evil emachine and gateway computer that break withing a year? I got very frustrated when two of my computer one gateway and one emachine which is the same company but different names, well those two computer stop working after one year about the time the warranty expired. These companies design their computers to stop working i don't know why but i suspect that they are going to change Names and start all over again with a new reputation. So such a rip off. what can you do if you are the system administrator and you forget your password? I am locked out of my gateway computer because i have forgotten the password. I did not create a password disk that the computer is prompting me for. gateway obviously does not have free customer service. what other options do i have? i can only get on through the alloted time that i have given my children. however i am still unable to to change anything.

Trouble using warranties to fix my computer, please assist? I bought a Gateway computer less than a year ago, and after two months, it suddenly stopped working. I heard it make a weird sound then it wouldn't turn on again. I had purchased a 2 year warranty from Circuit City and they said I could not use that warranty until the Gateway 1 year limited warranty ran out. What? Is that for real, or was I being duped? Anyhow, so I then tried to contact Gateway's customer service department, and after many calls and weeks, I was finally connected with a real person to speak to about my problem. He provided very little assistance and told me to go to the website and submit my problem there. Sigh.... I did, and have not heard a response. I really liked my shiny new, pretty computer but was only able to use it for TWO MONTHS, and have gone even longer trying to get it fixed/replaced with the warranties I had PURCHASED. I tried being patient about this ordeal but I seriously do not know what else to do.

Using Windows Calculator to test CPU Calculation Correctness.? I once was told that one could test their Computers CPU Calculation Accuracy using Windows Calculator. I guess it would be similar to when you do something like (1 / 3 = 0.33333333333333333333.....). The person who told me was told by someone in Gateway Customer Service sometime ago. Gateway computer won't turn on? Just recently (as in a couple days ago) I bought a Gateway One ZX6000 desktop, the one with the touch screen...well, after shutting it down last night and leaving it to install updates...I tried to turn it on this morning and it just wouldn't! I tried unplugging the cable and replugging it, calling customer service...but no dice. This was a nearly $1000 computer! Is there any way to fix it?

I just bought my laptop and the touchpad doesn't work. Help!? I have a brand new Gateway computer and a week after buying it, the touchpad stopped working. I contacted customer service with Gateway and they suggested reinstalling the program. I did so, it's still not working. Any other ideas? They had suggested I reinstall the driver associated with the mouse program. The option is enabled on my Settings window.

Gateway.net has set itself as my homepage w/out my approval! I can't get it off. How can I change my homepage? I never visited the site, but one day I opened up Microsoft Internet Explorer and was taken directly to a portal connected to www.Gateway.net. Since then, I have tried everything I can think of to change my homepage. Everytime I delete the Gateway page from my Internet Options Menu, it immediately comes up again the next time I open the program. I've tried setting a homepage directly from another website (Google), and Gateway re-establishes itself as my homepage. Also put the web page on the restricted site list, still comes up. Lastly, I reset the Internet Explorer completely. It was suppose to put back the default settings and reset my homepage. Again, the Gateway website continued to show up. All of my efforts to eliminate this have failed - including a call directly to Gateway's customer service. They refused to assist. I fear they have somehow uploaded something malicious onto my computer.

How do i fix this gateway laptop? We attempted to restore our gateway laptop recently, but in the middle of the process it shut down, now whenever we start it up it says an error telling us to restart the computer and put in the disc i believe. ( i dont have it near me so i cant tell) but somehow, my little brother managed to uninstall the cd driver so the computer wont read it. and we called customer service and such but they hang up on us constantly :\ plz help

Laptop WONT shut down. Help me? Hi I can use ANY advice, you may have that may help my problem. I installed Windows Vista Home Premium my computer is a Gateway MX6433. I upgraded my ram to 1GB to see if this would correct the problem but still no The computer will give me the "Logging off" "Shutting Down" screen The screen will go blank, yet still lite up. All indicator lights are on, and I have to hold down the power button to shut down. I entered safe mode to see if the computer would shut down properly and it "SHUT DOWN WITH NO PROBLEMS" I spoke with someone on gateways customer service line, and they said all they could tell me is to keep booting the computer in safe mode and use it like that This is a NEW computer purchased in JANUARY of this year. There is no reason I sould keep use SAFE MODE! I have no other problems with Vista it runs fine It sleeps, hibernates, locks, and restarts but it wont shut down.. please help.

Gateway sent me 3 recovery disks but no system disk? i got 3 disks which i ordered to reformat my computer. on the installation guide it says please insert system disk and then follow steps and then insert recovery disk. i chatted with the customer service and they said there must be a system disk inside. i rechecked and have only recovery disks1, recovery disk2 and recovery disk 3. what am i to do?

Cable Internet Installation Disaster! Cable guy couldn't do it---I'd like to try myself!? This guy was hooking the cable to my TV, he was re-configuring 2 computers, and let all this spyware in, my son's laptop couldn't go on line with our old DSL...He was a real slob. Went through my new D-Link modem, & 3 others from his truck. He said their office needed another IP address for my computer; after kicking him out, and restoring the 2 computers, I was able to go on mine & get my IP address. I hope it's my computer's & not the gateway address. Customer service said he doesn't need to do all that, only to turn it on at the pole. So I'd like to try to hook it up myself before rescheduling this appointment. I have one destop & 2 laptops. Comcast sent me one D-Link cable modem & one D-Link wireless router. The wiring has been added in, I don't know if he turned it on or not. He hooked it up to my TV to see if it was on. He said the cable signal is the same (!!!), but it may be the signal from another apartment running through the wire. Any advice on how to set it up? Well, I plugged the cable into the modem. The light still blinks orange as it does when there's no cable plugged into it. Gee, maybe that's why he couldn't get it to work. He never turned it on right. UGH! Thanks so much.

does anyone have a gateway laptop M520 and think it's the worst computer ever created? I have one, and so does my dad. I got it 3 years ago, and it started screwing up 2 1/2 years ago--so did my dads'. We have even both sent ours to get it fixed and gateway does a HORRIBLE job with that..they don't fix it permenantely, and they don't tell you what they did to it. They just send you a slip and tell you they "fixed it". And, really bad customer service. i get probably about 5 device driver errors a day that causes my computer to shut down( blue screen of death) i've come to get used to this, but it's still a pain, and my computer is REALLY slow. It says there is low disk drive space all the time, but i checked the harddrive, and there isn't. My dad's computer constantly gets overheated and shuts down randomly. I wish i never got a gateway. I should have gotten a sony again...my sony lasted 5 years years of hardcore use in college. Does anyone agree with this about gateway?

Will never buy from Gateway again, I have a question about the battery replacement crisis!!Please help.? I have a gateway laptop,and the keyboard of that laptop are just absurd, hard to type, you can easily mistype some words, but ok, that's not the big problem.the big problem is: I called for a battery replacement, and I sent it via USPS, now it's 24days after,Gateway is saying they haven't receive anything from me, and that "custormer service" told me: Every agent is required to tell you to send the package with a tracking number and send it with UPS or Fedex. But I never heard anything from that! And i called them 2times to verify the address! Is there any options left for me?. My laptop is now officially batteryless. Can i go and contact the supervisor or any head department? they told me they don't have a "supervisor". Cannot read software disk.? I have a rosetta stone language program...I have installed the program successfully, but when i put in the 2nd disk with the actual content, the computer does not read it. (1st disk is only for installing). I have tried to run through the "my computer", but again it leaves the statement like "cannot read disk" what can be the problem...I called gateway customer service...and rosetta stone customer service and nobody could figure out the problem.

Move information from one computer to another.? Okay, so I have a Gateway MT3418 laptop that I bought in 2007. Last year I accidentally cracked the screen, and within a week, the entire screen was ruined. It has been sitting in a bag for around a year, and now I want to use it again. I have been calling around, and Gateway wants around $500 to fix it. Instead of wasting money and dealing with Gateway's HORRIBLE customer service, I am just going to buy a new, better laptop. I don't want to have to start over, so I would like to know if there is an easy and preferably free, way to transfer my programs, user profiles, registry, etc, to the new laptop. If theres not an easy way, then its cool, and ill just manually do it. Any input is welcome. And I have to say this, please do NOT get a Gateway computer, unless your ready to pay for it with more than money. Thanks

Need some Info on how to save my data/files from a crashed PC.? My less-than-one-year old All in One Gateway PC effed up. The power button lights up but no display. Have already called the Gateway customer service and was told to send the PC in for repair. My problem is that I only backed up about 50% of my files before S*** hit the fan and don't want to lose the rest. What do I do to recover the rest of my files? I did my basic research and found out I could buy an external hard drive case and use my other PC to save my files. I am not computer savvy :( and I have no idea what type of hard drive I have; SATA OR IDE. How do I tell which one I got? I need to save my files before I send it out to the repair center this week. Someone please help me with my pc issue.

I spilled coffee on my laptop keyboard? I spilled coffee on my laptop keyboard so I tried to clean up the mess. At first I thought nothing was wrong since I could use to touch-pad mouse. Later I found out that I cant use any of the keys. I tired to clean some of the keys by pulling them out individually and then turn my laptop back on and all the keys worked. Being paranoid, I deleted my password on my account and restart my computer and the same problem with the keys again. Afterward, I notice that some of the keys worked but instead of typing the letters, it will go the shortcut. Like when i type "h" , it will go to help and when i type "f", it will go to file and anything i right click, it will download. I also tried the on-screen keyboard and the same thing happened. Since all my files and programs are still working, I dont think that the motherboard is damage. just the keyboard. I called Gateway Customer Service and they said they can fix it but it will cost $199.99. That is way too much. Should I take out the keyboard and wash it or get a new keyboard? Thanks.

use of power DVD to watch movies etc.? Hello, I just downloaded and installed power DVD 6 to watch movies/videos etc. But I am not sure how to use it. After installing,I had an extra icon in my desktop called "Cyberlink power DVD", which is different from PDVD 6 trial. It asks for CD -keys. What is a CD key and how will it help me to use PDVD ? Please inform me. Also, where/how can I obtain the product key for my Gateway computer. Can I call their customer services ?

How can I purchase the Gateway C-142XL in Canada and/or have it shipped to Canada? I would like to purchase a Gateway C-142XL. This computer can be found on the gateway website at http://www.gateway.com/systems/product/529668042.php - and according to the website, it should cost me $1318.93 with a 3 year warranty, 3 year battery plan, and no added software. I found that I could not have it shipped to Canada through the website, and discovered their Canadian page at http://www.gateway.com/ca/ which says that I need to purchase through a retailer. None of the three retailers listed carry the model I am interested in. At the top of the page, it says: Order by Phone: 888-888-2075. I tried dialing this number, and despite the fact that it says "To purchase a desktop or notebook, press 2" I got sent to customer service. They gave me another 800 number to dial, which got me to a place in South Dakota telling me they don't ship to Canada. Gateway sure seems determined as hell to not sell me this computer. How can I get my hands on it (including a 3 year warranty)? Sorry, I meant to mention, I'd like to get it at or near the price quoted on Gateway's website, because if there's a huge markup I'll just get another laptop instead. Gateway Laptop help!? Okay, so on Monday I was moving my laptop from my desk to my bed... and the battery drops out-- I guess I was pushing the button that releases it without realizing... When I turned my computer on again... it says that windows can not find local profile and so I have to use a temporary profile... that doesn't have any of my settings or files! When I open itunes there is no music, when I go to word none of my documents are there, when I open firefox it's as if I am using it for the first time... and if I switch users I can see the name of my main profile but same thing... I have a gateway laptop... I tried calling their customer service but they wanted to charge me $60 and the girl on the phone sounded like she didn't know what she was talking about... and I briefly tried google search to see what I could find but was unsuccessful! "Windows XP Media Center Edition" Help? I just got Service Pack 3 for Windows XP, and I have Media Center Edition, but when I enter the product key, it says that it is incorrect. I have tried to call Microsoft, and they told my to call Gateway(my computers brand), and it costs for their Customer Service. How do the people in india fell like taking jobs away from americans that need them so badly such as emachines? Not only did you take away emachines computers that were called Gateway computers in america, but many others like H/P Hulet Packerd, Your customer service is always been nice other than understanding everything siad because of our accents(speach differinces) I know its not your faults and your not taking them away Its just how do you feel about american companys doing that to their own people. Gateway serial or model number needed for driver problem? I purchased a Gateway laptop from Best Buy about 2 years ago. The system came pre-loaded with Microsoft Vista. I have been using Vista the last 2 years and finally got fed up with it. I decided to purchase XP and install on my Gateway. The installation went good and my laptop is running great the problem is that the video driver included w/ XP will not 1024 x 768. My sound does not work and my built in wireless connection does not work. I tried to call Gateway yesterday and they asked for my serial number. When I looked on the bottom of the laptop the white sticker where it was supposed to be has completely faded off and cannot be read. The customer service girl then hung up on me. I found Gateway's driver download page but I do not know the model or the serial number for my machine. I know that it is a t-series but there are over 20 t-series Gateway laptops. I am concerned that I will not be able to fix the driver issues. Here is my question... Is there any other place to locate the serial number or model number? I have already thrown away my box and the restore disk that came with the computer is buried in storage. I think I can get the drivers with the model number but I cannot locate the model number either. Is there any way to find the model number or serial number once it has worn of the bottom of the computer? Any where I can go in windows to locate the name of the components I need the drivers for? Anyone have experience wiring company-side DSL lines? Authentication issue with new customer account? I've been trying to get AT&T dsl for the last month now. I've been going through their hell of a customer service department (which is a complete, utter waste of time as I am a power user and had an idea of the exact problem before we even started) I finally have the number for the local manager and he's sending one of his "best dsl techs" out to get me straightened up. Now they've sent other techs out but they leave within five minutes, not finding the problem. My AT&T issued 2wire gateway has the error "no PPP login service found". Upon googling people have said that this is a problem with the line before my house. No PPP means the computer can't authenticate to anything. The modem itself is getting a strong, clear dsl signal. After that the connection is just dead and I am unable to get through to their mac-address registry (as the authentication just isn't happening). After hours and hours of tech support "help" i found one or two people who actually know about the error. One of them mentioned that there is a possibility that "the line is not hooked up to the proper end office". So now I have a modem that's working just fine and has all the lights on except the "internet light" because it just can't authenticate. MY QUESTION: What the heck can I tell this technician is wrong when he comes so he doesn't blow me off again like the others? He's going to come and test the line and he'll see a strong signal but I need to be able to have him check whatever part is not working directly instead of expecting him to guess at the issue. These guys are thinking about phone wiring, not internet ideas like "authentication" and "ppp", so this has been a big struggle. Thanks in advance!!

Gateway M-6866 Won't Turn On, Can't Find the Source of the Problem.? I was working on it one day, and noticed that even though the laptop was plugged in, the battery wasn't charging, the battery died and then when I tried to turn it on again... nothing. I've called customer service, tried their test of holding down the power button for 10-15 seconds to "reset" it or whatever. And it still won't work. - My warranty is expired, the computer is only just a year old - I've checked the soldering on the motherboard, and they're fine - Checked gateway's supplier website, and they don't have the motherboard for sale for my model, neither does anywhere else - No it's not the power cord either, tried that too, my friend has the exact same computer

Has anyone ever filed a dispute through the warranty on a Gateway laptop? Hi...I purchased a Gateway laptop almost two years ago. At the time of my purchase I did not buy an extended warranty but just went with the one-year warranty that came with it. I did renew for an additional year near the anniversary date of my purchase. Well, now it's been almost two years and my extended warranty is about to expire. The problem is this: I have sent my computer in for repairs (the same repair) three times now in the last five months. I don't have it back yet but don't anticipate that it will be fixed completely either. I have one month left on my warranty and would imagine that they'll hang on to it as long as they can. Their customer service hasn't been any better. Innumerable times I've called and they don't even have a record of my machine. My experience with them has been BEYOND belief. I will never buy another Gateway machine. That being said, I'm not ready to just let them off the hook either. According to my warranty documents, if I choose to pursue this, I am required to file a dispute through a third party, which is identified in my warranty. Has anyone else done this? Is it worth my time and hassle? I would even consider being part of a class-action law-suit or something. I can't believe they get away with stuff like this.

Gateway vista up grade? Why couldn't I find an application in the computer box to up grade. Do I need to go to the customer service desk to request it ? And can I recieve it by taking my reciept in for proof of purchase.

How do I get Gateway to honor their guarantee? My new computer (5 months old) is very sluggish and has always seemed to have small glitches. One was a windows update issue which I had to take to a shop to get fixed. Now I have a major issue of the screen going black sometimes and the computer freezing. I have to hold down the power button to get the computer to turn off and restart. I have contacted customer service twice with this info. They don't care what the problem is or try to even diagnose it. They just want me to wipe the computer clean with a restore and start from scratch. That is very risky and time consuming. I am backing up all my data to an online database but still I'd rather not do a system restore unless necessary. Any ideas on how what to do and how to get them to honor the warranty?

whats a good mid-grade computer for $300-700? I was thinking Dell because my friend has it and has never had problems with it. What you get a laptop replaced by Best Buy, do they just give you any computer? I bought a 15.4 inch $1249 laptop computer three years ago and I paid $250 for the product service plan. My computer died (Gateway) so as a replacement they tried to give me a $399 13 inch Acer laptop. I didn't take it because I have heard bad things about Acer and I read that the speakers are no good. I want a bigger screen and something that is reliable. I bought a Gateway because I don't want a crappy Acer. Although the specs of the new computer are better than what I bought 3 years ago, it is not what I want. I want at least a Gateway. So Best Buy employees, when you replace a computer, is the customer stuck with the cheapest computer no matter what the brand is or size? Even the $399 one they have is better than my 3 year old laptop and it was probably the weakest one they had in the store. They just chose the weakest one without my input. So it still is an upgrade but I bought a good Gateway for a reason; because I didn't want an Acer and I wanted a bigger laptop.

what's a good laptop for entertainment purposes? So i bought a defective Sony Vaio from Best Buy and after returning it to get fixed 6 times to the geek squad, they are finally allowing me to replace it with a new laptop. I already have a macbook pro and YES I LOVE IT.. but i have to replace it with a PC. I am a photographer/graphic designer but i use my mac for all my work. I would use this laptop to download music, surf the web, check e-mail, watch movies and tv shows, and store some of my photos.. pretty much for entertainment purposes. I have $1400 credit, I saw that most of their computers were around $800 so i'm trying to match the $1400 price so i get my moneys worth. Does anyone have any opinions as to what's a good laptop? I am staying away from Dell, Gateway, and Acer. I think i am looking for something with a core 2 duo processor, possibly 3-4 GB of ram, and a notebook with a good battery life, and good customer service! I think most notebooks come with wi-fi and webcams, but I would like that as well. As for size, something not too heavy but possibly around a 14-15 inch screen. When I type, all of a sudden other windows would pop up. The final straw now is that the computer only lasts about 10 minutes until it freezes. I can get an hour on some good occasions. I thought it had something to do with Itunes, which I had installed on Christmas day, however I uninstalled itunes and it still freezes. I took it to Best Buy, and the geek squad techs recommended I first go through Dell, however after reading the horror stories about people who send their comps back to Dell, I am reluctant to do so as my sole option. I plan on putting windows 7 on my comp, and trying to get it fixed, but this computer does not have a caps lock/scroll/number light, which I do not like. So I just decided to purchase a new system. I would like recommendations about which brand I should purchase. I need specifics such as processor type (currently I am a fan of the intel duo core). I have heard that Gateway and HP’s are good, and Toshiba’s as well. I have also heard that Gateway does not have the best customer service. Customer service is really important to me. A little about me and the system I require: I am a college student soon to be college graduate that does scientific research, so I need a computer that can handle my HEAVY internet surfing. I also have a big music library, so I need a lot of memory. I also like to watch TV shows online, so I need my computer to keep up with that without freezing. Why such a hatred for car salesmen/women? I just don't understand it, Please no hatred or vulgar outright hateful answers, just opinions please. I've been a salesperson at a dealership for over 3 years, have a wonderful family, a college education (currently working on masters), a modest home, community active, and go to church every Sunday. But I've read a bunch of articles lately about "how to screw the dealer" or "how to trick the dealer" and just downright nasty comments about guys like me. People say we "steal" money or only want the customers money. Well yeah, I def want you to buy a car because it means I get paid. Of course. But that's business. The lady who owns the hair salon wants you to buy so she can get rich. Sam Walton, owner of Wal-Mart practically perfected the art of profit making and "stealing" money from good Americans. The owner of the local grocery store, restaurant, cab company, it's all the same... THEY WANT YOUR MONEY! It's business. That is the ultimate goal, to turn a profit. Nobody haggles with the college kid at burger king over a whopper because they charge $3 for a burger and it only costs a little over a dollar to produce. Or what about a box of cereal that cost $0.49 to produce and can sell for almost $5.00. that's 10X the amount the cost of production, and I'm the thief?!? The average new vehicle has anywhere from 6-12% most of which calculates out to around $1800 worth of profit. Yeah, sounds like a lot of profit for just one item but the dealer is also buying Millions of dollars worth of inventory at a time. And is a minimal ratio compared to any other product. Or even consider the profit turned on real estate. I bet you didn't cry when you flipped your vacation home for a 25K dollar profit. I'm not a vulture, a sleazebag, convict, or thief in anyway or even considered by any friends or family as a dishonest or someone they can't trust. But constantly on a daily basis, I'm the bad guy because you want to buy a car from me with the money you've "stolen" from your clients, or customers, medical patients, or students. It's not stealing, it's basic economics and business. If automakers and dealerships weren't making money in even the least lucrative sense, there would be no cars period... or no goods or products at all in any industry in the same situation. Bottom line... I don't steal, nor does general mills cereal, or gateway computers. We all have a service or product which people want or need, that must turn a profit to continue.... How is my college essay? Dad... I did it again! That was probably about the third time in the last two weeks I'd called him up because I had messed with the computer. The computer, although fairly new, was still slow and sluggish with the highest internet speed available at the time, DSL. In an attempt to hook-up my new X-box 360 with the wireless internet connection and numerous failed tries I decided it might be a good idea to look at the routers settings. There was no way I was going to read the instruction manual or bother to call customer service, I had to get this fixed fast in order to play the new Call of Duty game with all my friends. For I am a master when it comes to computers, I would play around and see what all the files were until I went too far and ended up breaking something. Then the best part would come, trying to fix it, just like what I was facing with the wireless internet. I had tinkered around and shut something off that was not supposed to be off and then not only did the wireless internet shut off but even the wired connection had failed. Now I was in for it, I had to do something fast and none of my previous expertise seemed to help so I turned to my last resort who could get me out of anything, my dad. I called him up with the famous phrase he's heard time and time again, Dad... I did it again. He answered with ohh boy, what'cha do this time? We sat on the phone for hours trying this setting, that setting, and then rebooting, the process never ended. Until finally we found the simplest of solutions, I opened the internet, typed in the default gateway and sure enough I was able to reach the router setting page to fix the internet and play endless hours of Call of Duty. Now I'm older and I have even more experience than before and can fix what I do most of the time, don't worry I still call my dad everyday. Truth is I can't stop looking and exploring through the world of computers because so many new things are created that can do more than we even thought possible. With technology there is something new and exciting to learn everyday which also stands true at (university name here.) if you can please include a 1-10 of how good you think it was. 10 being the best, 1 being the worst

AT&T 2WIRE internet connection problems, read details? I have a Gateway XP laptop and I use wireless Internet provided by 2WIRE. For the past three weeks my connection has been bad - it's always on and off. This is annoying because when I need to go online, I can never get connected to the Internet. The only way that I'm online now is because I'm using the Ethernet cable to connect from the 2WIRE modem to my PC. I don't want to have to use this cable because I like the wireless aspect of this computer. The computer icon on the bottom of the screen has a red "X" on it. I went to "view available wireless networks" and the 2WIRE930 is never on the list. When it is, I try to connect to it and it says "detecting network type, could not connect to the network, wireless network may not be in range." What is going on? I called AT&T customer service and spoke with 3 different people over the past 2 weeks and they all just sent me a new 2WIRE box, which did not help because I got a new one today and I'm having the same problem. Can someone help me figure out what to do? My dad pays for the DSL but he has no idea how to do anything with computers, so I'm trying to handle this on my own. The lights on the 2WIRE modem are as follows: Power: solid green Ethernet: blinking green Wireless: no light DSL: solid green Internet: solid green Obviously the problem has to do with the wireless connection. Why does my mom's computer keep randomly shutting down? Um my mom's computer like randomly shuts down. We bought it in august 2004, and it's about 2.5 years old, and it's a Gateway running Windows XP home. The electrical in my mom's room is kind of crap, and sometimes it seems that's the problem even though her room doesn't get a power surge every 3-5 minutes. We took it in to best buy and Geek Squad couldn't do squat to resolve the problem. They say "they couldn't duplicate the problem." even though I think it's probably because they're saying that because they don't want to honor their own extended warranty. Apparently be$t buy has a history of bad customer service. I did a google search and it turned up customer complaints from 10-15 years ago. anyway so it keeps shutting down randomly, geek squad reinstalled windows, but it still didn't work...never again is a geek squad agent touching my mom's computer.

Opening up a laptop? My computer is making a clicking noise and is getting Really hot really fast. I think something may be caught in the fan. Could you tell me how to open up my Gateway Notebook. THere are lots of other things wrong with the computer...but this is the main one right now. FYI NEVER buy a gateway...the product itself is horrible and so isn't customer service.

Cancel AT&T Internet Service? I used to have only one single computer and I bought AT&T regular ($49) modem. Now I have gotten 2 iPods and another computer, so I want to get their Wireless gateway. But they offer rebate for it only for new customers. I have read somewhere at AT&T website that I don't have any contract. What if cancell AT&T internet service (but keep my phone service) and in a month I will sign up for their internet again. Do you think I will be able to get rebate for $79 wireless gateway? And will it actually work or not? Thank you folks.

Computer recovery...now I cant connect wireless..? My laptop was messed up...So I thought I should do a computer recovery(im not computer savvy, so I'm not sure what I did or if I should of done it ) anyway...My computer seems like it is back to normal except I cant connect to my wireless router. In fact, I dont even see my old program that let me search for wireless networks in the area-it's gone. My router is a Linksys, would my best bet be to just call Linksys customer service and have them connect me? Or is there something that would be easier and less time consuming? The geek squad at best buy left a disk labeled "customizer 351" in my laptop when they previously had itto change the hard drive. Could I use this disk to help me? Or should I return it? Anyway, my laptop is a Gateway...um and I'm just trying to connect to my wireless router after I did a full system recovery or reboot or whatever it's called....if you need more info then feel free to e-mail me...any help would be great since I'm stuck using the interenet at mylibrary...or drivign an hour to my mothers house to use her computer...please help! What's the best FASTEST laptop computer with largest memory? I am looking to purchase a laptop computer. I want it to be the FASTEST possible laptop, with the BIGGEST possible memory. I mainly will be using it for photo and video editing and storage.... And lots of multi tasking. I normally have 5 programs open at once, and use them all. Photoshop... AOL... Internet explorer... etc I do lots of photo editing, so picture is important I don't do any gaming, but I know that the gaming pcs are pretty good with being fast, with lots of memory. DESPERATE laptop help needed!!? my gateway laptop got the blue screen of death a couple of times. i pulled the battery and plug and recharged it. the most recent time i did that was last night. today i open it and it wouldn't start it, it was waiting by the blank screen that comes right before i see the desktop. i restarted it and was greeted with: run windows repair. i chose that. it said that it might take several minutes and it might restart several times in the process. it took several minutes to "find problems" and then it began to "repair them." a while later i noticed that the laptop had restarted - but now it is stuck on that green bar that you see right when you turn it on. i left it in the hopes that it would continue. for the past 4 hours all i see on my screen is the green bar and the words microsoft corporation (it is the screen that flashes for about 2 seconds when any computer is turned on, after which the comp starts). i do not know whether to pull out the battery and restart it or if that will break it. i called customer service and some indian gave me crap about how my warranty is expired (it is not even a yr old now). can someone give me advice on what to do please? thanks a lot. i apologize if this is not the right forum in which to ask this.

Why does Comcast treat customers so bad? 1) I called comcast after I bought a new laptop to have them help me set it up on my Comcast router for internet access. I did so because during the setup process, I was promted to enter info that I didn't know and it told me if I didn't know to contact my ISP. Comcast refused to help me. (I tried 3 seperate times with 3 seperate Cust service reps). They told me that they could send someone out to look at it for a fee. All I needed to know was my gateway code. I finally called a friend who told me how to find that info on my computer. It took 5 seconds. Comcast refused to help me with this simple fix. 2) every time you call, you will be on hold for over 15 minutes. Don't beleive me? Call them. 3) My package is $159 a month. After "other" charges it is $201 a month.$62/month in hidden charges 4) NFL network was part of my original package. After the NFL announced there would be 8 Thursday night games only on NFL network... Comcast removed it from my package to charge extra
