What can I expect from Gateway tech support after purchase of new computer? Heard bad reports.? I'm thinking of buying a new Gateway desktop computer but have gotten bad reports on tech support after the sale. Anyone with any advice?

Does anyone know the address of Gateway Tech Support? I hate the tech drones are REALLY pissing me off and I want them to know I won't give up until they give me the answer I need. Thanks! I want the address for the building where the tech droids work, I don't want to send a product or anything.

!! GATEWAY TECH SUPPORT WON'T HELP ME!, I need the sound driver for a Gateway Laptop P-6822 for XP. Sigmatel I tried Intel's, Gateway's, everybody's drivers, none of them will install on my P-6822. I it is not a very common model at this point, but I am really dissapointed about Gateway's Tech Support, first they treated me like a thief because the serial number on my NEW laptop didn't show up on their database, and second, because the Laptop came up with that slow Windows Vista OS, which does'nt run smooth like XP not even in my 1.5ghz Core2Duo 2Gb Ram laptop...it takes like 5 minutoes just to load the startup screen!!! So finally I decided to get back everything to XP, and the computer run amazing!!, but I am unable to get the sound driver specifically to work, I've got everything else from manufacturer's site directly, but Sigmatel, IDT nor Gateway will give me tech support for this new chipset under XP!!! DOWN OLIGOPOLY!

Why would a computer tech support tell someone to hold the power button for 4 minutes? A Gateway tech told a friend of mine to hold their power buttin to do some kind of reset, has anyone heard of this? Not four seconds, but four minutes?

Does anyone know how to reach Gateway support without a laptop serial number? Bought a Gateway laptop about 13 months ago via Best Buy. There is not a Gateway serial number ANYWHERE on the unit. Laptop got a virus and I need to order the system recovery disk from Gateway but cannot access Customer Support/Tech Support/phone customer support without a serial number. Contacted Best Buy and requested they send copy of original receipt as it may contain serial number, but that is going to take 2 weeks. Any thoughts? Really people? Do we have to be so accusatory when I am looking for help? It's not my computer - it was a gift. There are 2 blank stickers on the back which appear to have been where the SN# should have been. It's not there. So, if anyone has anything informative to contribute - I would appreciate it. Da Guy - Thank you for that information. I will file it away for future use. Unfortunately, the Gateway only boots to a black screen...which is why I need recovery disks from Gateway.

Gateway laptop battery not registering? I have a gateway laptop that is about 6 months old and recently it shows that my battery is at 0% and not charging. The odd thing is if I remove the battery and put it back in, it will suddenly register at whatever percentage I have and start charging. The minute it goes into hibernation it will stop registering it again. Gateway tech support really aren't any help and I was hoping someone here could tell me what the problem might be before I have to talk to them again and try to get them to finally understand what my problem is.

Who has the best tech support for laptop computers? I currently have an old Dell (Inspiron 3800) and their technical support is a nightmare. A new lap top is in my future. When something goes wrong I want to be able to get the kind of support that will fix the problem, not make it worse. I'm looking at HP and Gateway and would appreciate feedback from users of these 2 brands in particular.

help me find drivers win xp pro on gateway machine? i downgraded my os from vista to xp pro, but i couldn't get my sound work. i'm not sure which driver to find/download. can anybody point me to the right drivers. can anyone help with the tech support and durability of tablet pc's? I'm in the market for a tablet pc. i've narrowed it down to 2 or 3 companies. can anyone who owns any of these help with the tech support and durabilty of them. i'm stuck between Dell and Gateway. i also know very little about Lenovo and would love any info on them as well. as one last question, can anyone help with how legible the handwriting functions are on the tablet pc's.

audio drivers for gateway MD2614u notebook? Well, I have a gateway MD2614u notebook. I had everything working on vista 64 bit premium sp1, but it had a lousy performance. I since went to xp 64 bit. i got everything to work, except the sound ! I have downloaded the apparent drivers from gateway, and even tried conexant's website. Even microsoft, but they want 60.00 to fix this issue. I said I can buy another sound card for that price! I am positive it's a driver issue. Apparently, after 10 minutes talking to a gateway level 2 technician, they told me I have a sound card that's integrated with the mother board. It's a conexant audio 4.48. I believe its a HD or something as well. I can install the drivers fine, and you would think everything would be fine, but there is no sound. The sound in control panel is all greyed out. There is no question marks or anything in device manager. I have tried and tried, so any help I would appreciate. And yes, I already have contacted gateway tech support telling them that I couldn't get it to work. They say nothing really. CD/DVD drive problem on Gateway Laptop? I have a Gateway laptop and it works pretty well. Unfortunately, my dvd drive doesn't work properly. Whenever I put a CD in, it contemplates, and then it asks me to insert a CD and pops out the drive. My computer recognizes the drive, but it still doesn't work. I talked with Gateway Tech Support, and they said that I should reinstall the drive (I did, it didn't work) and refix the drive (what does that mean?). They also said I should take it to a computer technician to fix it (but I don't have the money), or should try one of those CD/DVD drive cleaners (for dvd players). I would like to know what you think the best solution would be for a budget of less than 50 dollars, or what you have done to fix the problem. I would also like to know what might be the cause of the problem. Thanks.

Why won't my CD/DVD Player work with my Itunes? I have a fairly new (Summer '07) PC with Windows Vista. After installing Itunes, no CDs or DVDs will work or are even recognized. When I uninstall Itunes, everything works great. So, there's an obvious conflict between Itunes and Vista and my audio devices (maybe?) I've searched for help on this on the 'net. All of the search results are for previous versions of itunes or Vista. Why am I still having this problem? Can anyone please help. I've already tried changing my registry as Apple suggested, but that doesn't work, either. Gateway Tech Support says contact Apple. Apple says get a MAC. Any useful advice on this situation?

Why won't my Gateway desktop start? My Gateway desktop [model number GT5654] was shut down last night and this morning the only things that come up on start-up are the light for the CD drive and the fan. Nothing has been changed with my computer recently and it worked fine last night. I've tried everything, even what the Live Support Tech from Gateway said to do and nothing has worked. My operating system is Vista and my computer is barely a year old and in good condition, so it's very confusing to me. Can anyone help me?

How do I reinstall drive E? I ran a virus scan and it deleted something because now my computer doesnt recognize drive E, which is my cd and dvd player and burner, isnt there! I ve tried doing the uninstall method ( i called gateway tech support) and ive tried taking the side panel off and reconnecting the drive wires. Both to no avail! What can I do? I just want to be able to burn cds and dvds again not to mention be able to listen to the cds as well. PLEASE HELP!

Any others? You would think for the price you pay the service would be better. I can’t deal with being on the telephone or on –line for hours just to reach customer service or technical support. I can’t deal with people I can not even understand. I don’t want a Tech who tells me to mail in my laptop or desktop as a means of resolving technical issues. I tried everything to restore it to factory setting but when i try there is no "repair your computer" option, no "factory"option. How to correct invalid IP configuration? Win 7 & Netgear CG814 gateway modem/router.? This is a Comcast specific CG814CCR v2 I am using at home, but not leased from the ISP. When I originally set up this gateway Comcast Tech Support was no help. They tried to tell me that the modem was no good. I got it working on my own, but can't remember for sure what I did to "unlock" it. It may have included assigning a static IP. Now I was trying to connect a second router, and instructions told me to change the IP address of the gateway from 192.168.0.1 to 192.168.2.1. Which I did, but then got no connectivity. After resetting with a long press of the button on the back, I am not able to access the gateway admin with addresses 192.168.0.1 (previously used), 192.168.2.1, or 10.1.10.1 (printed on the gateway as the "default"). Win7 troubleshooting tells me "Invalid IP Configuration". Ethernet IP protocol settings are to auto select IP. Win ipconfig shows IP address is not in 192.168.x.x range. Gateway shows solid Cable connectivity light, and blinking upstream and downstream data lights.

im having a problem with my gateway notebook (m-1625) shuts off on me sometimes? i bought this laptop a little over three months ago. im using windows vista. every now and then it will shut off on me on its own. im not 100 % sure but i think everytime it has shut off completely ive been listening to music on it. then just today the screen went blank on me and wouldnt go back.i wasnt listening to music that time. anyways i called tech support for gateway and they talked me threw a repair whear i set everything back to facatory settings and lost all my data. they said that should do the trick but it didnt. does anybody no what this mite be and how i can fix it? i hope its not the mother board because i dont want to have to send it in.i heard that can be a long proscess and i need my computer badley. any help will be appreciated. thanks

I have an old monitor from 2000 Gateway hooked up to my HP Compaq THe problem is my colors are all messed up a somehow I ended up with my colors being way too dark. I can't use the monitor wheel in the front because when it comes up it is just a black box since it is too dark I can't read the different setting things to know what I am changing. MY question is is there a reset button on this monitor or how do you reset it since I can't read the settings thing I usually use. It is such an old monitor though that when I called tech support at gateway they didn't even have it in their system if anyone knows please let me know thank you:-)

Why do Microsoft and Gateway charge $59.00 to ask a question about products that we've purchased from them? I'm not venting, complaining or breaking any guidelines rules, so relax, I just can't afford to pay that and I still need tech support at times. Laptop tech support HELP!!!!? My laptop screen randomly went very very dark so dark that I can't use it. it is a Gateway from 2004-2006 im not sure. PLEASE HELP ME techy people!!!!!!!!

Anyone ever used Gateway fee based support? I opened up a chat support session on gateway because my laptop screen is flickering (almost like it is not reading the ac adapter). The charge light comes off and on and the screen turns dim and bright as if I am plugging and unplugging it over and over. On top of that, the touch mouse pad seems to be haywire. The tech person only wanted me to use the fee based support. Is it worth it? Will they charge an outrageous amount and take longer to fix it since they charge by the amount of time? Anyone ever had a positive/negative experience?

I'm using Firefox and it always shuts down when the gameroom is full or nearly so. Often I can't get back in Sometimes firefox flashes then returns to normal. The same thing happened when I was chatting with Gateway tech support.

Does anyone else have problems ripping and burning DVD's with Gateway's Microsoft Vista? Gateway said they have programs installed to block ripping and burning DVD's. Said it is due to infringement laws. The computer is about 4 months old and they tried to tell me to purchase their tech-support. Isn't it against the law to advertise that it rips and burns if it doesn't? I mean, it is not an infringement to want to share my videos of my children and grandchildren. I have a major computer problem and need help fast? Gateway 614GE overheating issues? Lack of money has me looking for inexpensive upgrades. Normally the comp would freeze and lock up in 10 minutes. Burning a CD or playing a video game, about 5 minutes. I had a few tech's look at it and they replaced the cpu fan. They stated, if continues to lock up, it must be a chip problem. Gateway has lacked the tech support I needed and pretty much refused the computer, due to computer techs replacing the CPU fan. So therefore I opened the tower and ran a 12inch fan blowing into the tower on high. It will let the computer run all day. Unless, I run video games or burn a cd. Which normally locks it up in 10 minutes. I watched the CPU usage reach to around 100% for 2 minutes to achieve this. What can be inexpensively done to stop the over heating? Upgrade CPU fan, power supply, tower. State product names. Thx

Unable to click on my Desktop...wierd problem? So i booted up my PC this morning, and i go to click on the startbutton to go do my daily routene. And i get an error "boop". So im thinking.."ok this is kinda strange, lets just reboot the PC"I do so and nothing changes, however i can acces everything by using the Task Manager and the StartButton short cut on the Keyboard. I dont understand why this is happening, and i called Gateway Tech-Support and they were all "youre not under warrenty anymore"...so they were of no help so im asking of help from you all. Thanks !

dial up modem issues with windows media center? i have sent my laptop off to be repaired and they say that nothing is wrong with it...i have reformated several times and yet the problem seems to evolve again!! could be software related but i have no idea. i have come to a dead end! anyway hopefully someone can help me. i have a gateway mx6650 with 2 gigs of ram i have been using system mechanic 6 pro. what is happening is that my internet connection keeps dropping shortly after being dialed, sometimes more than others. but i also have another hp laptop which is about 3 yrs old that seems to do fine on the same connection. Okay. Please help me!!!!!! I can't get Windows Media Player.........? to work and I'm at my wit's end. I've never had a problem with it before. My Gateway tech support isn't 24 hours so that's out. The only tech support that is still open is for my internet and they keep telling me they can't help cuz it's not an internet issue. I know that but I thought maybe someone would take pity on me and just tell me how to do it real quick. Nope. So now I can't see the attachment in my email and I have no patience left. Sound driver deletes itself when I reboot my computer - help? I recently purchased a Gateway Solo 9500 notebook computer from a sale at a local university. I bought it without an operating system, so I had a good friend and computer expert install one for me. Everything was working great until I realized there was no sound. I used a gateway service to find the correct driver for my system, ESS Allegro, and downloaded it. It worked fine, but I noticed that the driver deletes itself every time I reboot the computer. Why is this happening? Because of the way the university originally bought the computer, Gateway tech support cannot assist me and all my computer-expert friends are totally stumped. I would appreciate your help! How much, roughly, would it cost for me to replace the board if that happens to be the issue?

How do I reset Vista Home Basic back to Original settings without losing programs or software I have installed? I can't un install or reinstall EzTune on my Gateway Desktop and EzTune has a Monitor Gateway Theft Deterrence Shield that causes the screen to go Grey and Black. I need to get into the program to enter my password to deactivate the Detected Theft Warning but Windows Vista keeps saying that something caused EzTune to stop running and will close and will let me know when a solution is available. I called Gateway Tech support and they couldn't figure out how to correct the problem so they SUGGESTED that I restore Windows. I have many post installed programs, software, pictures, videos and information that I don't want to have to reinstall after a restoration. Is there a way I can restore Windows Vista Home Basic without having to restore everything after the OS restoration? (I'm not sure if I explained this issue clearly enough but I would appreciate any help I can get concerning it. Thanks.)

My LCD Monitor turns on bu no picture? Hi everyone, I am using my old smaller LCD monitor and it works fine however, my newer 21" wide screen...??? turns on but no pic, menu buttons on the side do not see to work also. Hopefully this isn't too geeky for Major Geeks, but I'm trying to locate a power supply board to repair my Gateway 21" LCD monitor. We had a power outage, and when the power came back on the monitor didn't. I'm assuming the power supply board is the culprit. I've disassembled the unit and have the board here on my bench. There is nothing obviously wrong with it, but the power LED would not even light up (when it was still assembled). The monitor may actually be made by Samsung (or at least the LCD panel itself has a Samsung sticker on it). The only clue I've found via Google is a German site (www.classic-serviceparts.com) that lists the part number found on the board (860-ALZ-2112H) as a Samsung LCD power supply board, so there is some consistency there. They talk about a "Classic Part Number" of IVB65083 if that means anything beyond something local to their site. They have a shopping cart, and I can put the item in the cart, but there doesn't seem to be any way to check out because I can't seem to select a "distributor" for the item. Anyway, if anyone knows where I could find some sort of service manual that contained a circuit diagram for this power supply, perhaps I could determine the faulty part and replace it (there is a fuse on board which checks out OK). But I'm assuming the more likely approach is to try and locate a replacement board. Gateway tech support was rather unhelpful (I actually chatted with someone), and Samsung was less so (couldn't find anything helpful). So I guess I need some sort of parts source that would have the supply. I'd take something that had been pulled from a monitor with a damaged screen or something if I could track it down. Why won't my new RAM Card work? I have a Gateway MX3215 computer that I purchased in 2006. The computer came with 256MB of RAM. I contacted Gateway Tech Support and they told me to get a PC4200 DDR2 533MHz SODIMM memory card from Tigerdirect.com (their parts people)! I received a Centon 1GB Memory card, and installed it via the Gateway MX3215 specifications. No re-configurations had to be redone according to the directions. I installed the card and attempted to turn on my computer... the computer will power on, but nothing will boot up. (I run Windows XP.) I reattached the old card, and it works... did I get a defective card?

Computer Sound Issue, please help...? I have a 2005 laptop, it's a gateway MX6650 and it's out of it's warantee with gateway... tech support wouldn't help me. and i'm not really that good with these things.. :) I have an issue with sound-- i can hear songs/video clips, etc, but it's so faint you can't make it out unless you know the song, for instance... this sounds stupid, but it's been like this from the beginning but i never wanted to use sound for anything so I never worried about it... I bought a set of external speakers and they didn;t sound any louder. I checked my volume (duh) and all that, it's up and not muted. i was told it sounded like a sound card or a driver, how can I tell? can I buy one and put it in? (I'm 200 miles from the closest best buy or circuit city and drive a big diesel so it's really not practical to take it to someone...) any help is VERY appreciated!!

how can i boot my laptop long enough to save some files (back them up) to disk (cd) before it crashes again? my practically brand new notebook (gateway -- vista home premium) crashed. i think it's a prob with the video card, 'cause i kept getting weird screens that were pink or soft green or grey and black (vertical stripes) before it finally crashed. unfortunately, i neglected to backup to CD some important data. can i reboot this thing long enough to do so? right now it turns on and off by itself multiple times (continuously) upon trying to start it. i've done what the kids at gateway tech support tell me to do, for example hitting F8 like crazy upon turning it on. had it up once, but can't get it now. please HELP??????

I gota virus on my ipod & if i plug it in it syncs w itunes. How do i stop this & scan ipod with AV? plz help! I have up to date mcafee also and my ipod is the 3rd gen nano. my lasp pc was a dumb gateway and it got a virus via limewire and after the virus was on the pc i transfered music to the ipod. so im guess the virus went with it. is it as simple as just delaying the sync and scaning the ipod with mcafee? and also someone at gateway tech support told me that all my music on my previous laptop was backed up on my ipod but i just read at apple.com that u cant put music from an ipod to itunes. only from itunes to an ipod. Please, some genious help me... well my ipod is working fine but im just wondering if maybe the virus is in one of the songs... i want to be completely sure that i will not get a virus on this notebook cuz i cant even think about buying another one of paying to get this one fixed. so if i delay the sync and scan the ipod with mcafee, it'll get rid of the virus? *or paying*

Okay, so, severe crashing is happening on my notebook while gaming... Please help.? I have a Gateway T-1625 notebook on which I frequently play World of Warcraft. The computer will randomly crash while I'm playing the game (only happens when I have the game on) and then will continuously crash when I try to turn on the system after the initial crash. I've talked to Gateway tech support about this issue, where they offered me plenty of troubleshooting tips. So, yesterday I got to the end of the list where I uninstalled and reinstalled Vista and all of my other programs, including WoW (hoping that if it was a problem with WoW, uninstalling and reinstalling would help). So I log onto the game today, ten minutes in, it goes back to the same crap, so at this point, I honestly do not know what to do, but I need to find a solution because it's probably really bad for my computer, and I've already paid in advance for this game, so I would like to be able to play and get my moneys worth. If this is any useful information as well - This problem started happening to my system after the most recent expansion (Wrath of the Lich King) came out and was applied to my system. That's all the information I can come up with on the top of my head, but if you maybe have ANY idea how to fix this, please help me out!!!

So, i talked to Gateway tech support and they told me i have a corrupted operating system (i have windows xp). this computer is like 10 years old, and has had its hard drive changed to a different one and the only operating system ever on this hard drive was/is win xp. it worked fine for a while then it stopped working. what i mean by stopped working is that when i turn my computer on it has a black screen, goes to the "windows loading" screen then goes back to a black screen then the windows loading screen... and the process repeats a bunch of times and doesn't stop. please help!! Heres the thing, i tried re-booting it in safe mode but it paused like half way through and it didnt go any further, and when i put in my xp disk to re-install the operating system (and remove everything) it dosent do anything. =( but do the black screen windows loading and repeat thing.... and while trying to get it to run in safe mode it stops at: multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\mup.sys

Help! Help! How do I restore my Gateway notebook PC back to factory condition? I needed to perform system recovery, so I backed up all of files to an external hard drive and then I inserted the "Install Windows Vista" cd that came with my notebook. I had intended to reinstall everything to factory condition and then add my programs, but I did not know that the Install Windows disk does not do this. My partitioned hard drive, D:, is still untouched however, I no longer have the Gateway System Recovery program installed. How can I boot from the partition now? In the re-installation process of the OS, a backup file was created called "Windows.old". I just want to wipe the system and reinstall it completely new to factory condition. The thing is, since I don't have Gateway System Recovery installed anymore, my hard drive (D:) is still the partition drive. Is there any way to restore the computer without using Gateway System Recovery?

I have a Toshiba Satellite computer that's connect to AT&T 2Wire Gateway, but won't let me onto the internet.? We've tried everything, including AT&T tech support. It connects to other wireless networks like the local bookstore and Starbucks, but not the home network. Could it be that the AT&T Gateway doesn't support that driver?

Why is my default gateway wrong? This morning I attempted to fix an issue with my PS3 being unable to connect to the internet due to DNS errors. I turned off the modem, unplugged, and let it go for 2 minutes. When everything was done, my computer was unable to access the internet due to more relentless DNS errors. When I contacted Verizon Tech Support it was revealed that my default gateway (verizon) which is 192.168.1.1 was no longer correct. Instead my default gateway was 192.168.2.1 which is a linksys gateway. Now my household has no linksys equipment, at least not overtly. My computer, which is a desktop, is the only computer affected. It does not have a network card. The westell 7500 is my modem. Currently my parents' computer (which is hardwired) is working fine, and I am writing this question on my girlfriend's lap top, which is accessing the internet wirelessly from that same modem. What is the internal issue with my computer and how do I go about fixing it, besides dropping fistfulls of cash on an unnecessary repair? Is their a way to do a manual edit of the default gateway? And why in god's name is my default gateway a linksys gateway? o.O

My Gateway keeps going to a gray screen? I have a NV53 Gateway laptop which I bought a few days ago, and every time it goes into sleep mode for more than 20 mins, it gray screens when I wake it up and freezes that way. Does anyone know what's wrong with it? I called the Gateway tech support people and they didn't help at all.

Where can I find Windows 7 drivers for a Gateway LX4710? I bought a Gateway LX4710 desktop, registered for and received the free Windows 7 Upgrade CD, but during the update process, the LX4710 model was NOT in the list to select which Gateway model I had. So I called their tech support, who informed me my model was not eligible. I informed them that I received my CONFIRMATION email from the order, which listed my exact model (LX4710), and the discs were shipped. Long story short (7 tech support calls, at least 4 hrs total), they finally referred me to their PAID support (who was in America and spoke English), which wanted $129 for a 90-minute support call. At this point I was in tears, but did not spend the money. I then went straight to the Microsoft site and was going to purchase the darn upgrade directly from them, and their tech advised me that although he couldn't tell me exactly where to look, I would likely be able to find somewhere online a Gateway model # which would be a match for the LX4710 so I can use my existing Upgrade disc. I have yet to find that information so far, so I'm hoping someone here can help me. Or is there an alternative? Thanks in advance for your help.

How to reformat my emachine t6534, the program to create the restore cd will not work I need to reformat my computer and the emachine makes you create your own recovery cd (kinda dumb coulda jus came with one) anyway, i go to try to create the dvd for doing recovery and i get the message "device not ready" and then it aborts. i called emachines only to find out that my warranty has expired and they dont give tech support if you dont have one. I'm a college kid and i cant afford to buy another warranty especially after spending 1200 dollars on the damn thing already. gateway charges to help you, or i pay 20 dollars in shipping for a recovery disk. i figure someone out in this wonderful information super highway knows how to do what the tech guys would tell me to do, or what best buy would charge me an apparent 150 dollars for. please help

I'm trying to get internet service after installing a new hard drive.? I have a gateway 2 wire. ATT&T internet tech support told me I need the NIC driver. Supposedly When I googled NIC drivers it said this driver is dependent on my chip set. When I go into my device manager, the only network adaptor that is present is the 1394Net Adapter. I'm confused on what driver i need and how to get it.

Is there a better router to use with a DSL Hookup other than Linksys? I have a Wireless-G Linksys Broadband Router with speed booster, Model WRT54GS. The thing is that it sucks. My upstairs computer is constantly losing it's connection with my main computer that is hooked up with the router, and I have to spend hours talking to tech support to get the thing to work. After uninstalling at&t self support tool as per directions, get to the download (above) I was told install? Tech help (phone) directed a "power down" of my "2wire Gateway" modem w/ reconnect (power) after 10 seconds. Having done so, was directed to unistall at&t self support tool and then go to at&t/Yahoo home page to get and download again.

Gateway laptop sucks? Recently bought Gateway laptop. I found price for that configuration to be the best at that time. Very first day, I noticed noisy fan. Called tech. service. He said, laptop has bad heat sink so suggested me to go to store where I purchased and replace it. Next day, I got it replaced. Same problem, fan is noisy. Called technical service on following weekend. Bye the way, Gateway do not have 1-800 number. After spending two weekends talking to tech support, guy said, noisy fan is good and that keeps ur laptop cool. Come on .. Give be break.. I think these people use cheap parts or second quality parts. I know, when the premium quality laptops are built then some parts are thrown out b'cos of not passing QA and those parts are used instead of recycling them. I think, performance of the laptop is also not that great. I want to know, is there any performance test that customer can run to test to see it meets the speed. Nvidia Geforce 9400GT 1Gb Installation? I am exhausted i've tried everything i could think of for this card to work on my pc. All i get is a black screen at start up. Even after i put in a 550w power supply. My CPU is a Gateway GT5464. I tried disabling the display adapter and even uninstalled under the device manager i pop it in and still get the same black screen. And went into the BIOS but dont know what to move in there PLEASE HELP. Oh and i also called the tech support and they say it might be a dead card and return it or call gateway for tech support but the thing is that gateway charge 60bucks for 30 min.

Anytime I use the internet everything is really pixelated. How do I fix this? Every photo on every website and every video on every webside(ie. YouTube) are ALWAYS pixelated. The only way I can fix the photos is by right clicking and choosing Display Image With Full Quality from the menu. This is only a temp. fix. I tried calling Gateway's tech. support number and the tech. guy said "What do you mean by pixelated?" WTF?! I've even clicked on my Netzero settings(I have Netzero High Speed Dialup) and adjusted the pic quality and that didn't help. Pictures and videos that I upload onto my computer myself from my camera are fine but, ANYTHING on the internet is pixelated. BTW, I use IE 6.0 and Windows XP Home but, I also have AOL Explorer on here so, I've checked that and everything on there is also pixelated. Does anyone know how to fix this? I've delt with this since I've gotten my computer but, I've finally had enough!

Verizon router/modem gateway: Wireless working for PC's but not for macs.? I'm a geek squad agent so of course my friends and family always have me help them with their computer problems. My girlfriend's parrents have service thorugh verizon dsl and they have a router/modem combo gateway to access internet. It connects perfectly to the desktop hooked up to the modem and the wireless works fine on pc laptops but my girlfriend and I's mac laptops pick up the wireless signal but cannot access web pages. I've never seen this before and I have the same equipment in my house and it works on all devices. Verizon tech support is useles and none of my co-workers have ever seen this before either. Anyone have any suggestions?

I need help with my Gateway computer.....it is giving me problems.....everytime I save something on a disk.... Every time I save something on a disk....the disk drive will not open so I can take the disk out. In order for me to openi it I have to restart my computer. Then it will let me take it out. (wierd) Also...my card reader on the front of my computer will not read cards anymore...and the indicator light that lets you know there is a memory card inserted correctly, stays on at all times..even if a card is not in it. I bought this computer brand new at Best Buy in January. It is a Gateway GT5648E with Windows Vista. I have looked on internet and bestbuy.com for this model and I can't find it anywhere.. How to set up dsl modem to netgear wireless router? I lose internet connection when I set up my cabling from the dsl modem to the router. Either the computer cannot detect the router. My cabling is in correct config. I go start/run/cmd type in ipconfig... nothing for ip address or default gateway. Help. tech support is useless from ip provider and router manufactuer. Should I just buy a dsl/router combo?

I have a problem with my Verizon Actiontec GT704WG modem (gateway)? I have a problem with connecting to the Internet and modem errors. The power sometimes go wrong. when it go wrong. The Power, DSL, Internet, and Ethernet light are on, but it doesn't reboot. I have to turn it on in 5 minutes to start successfully. The other problem I have is that I lose my Internet connection every hour. The Internet light go off and the DSL light is flashing. When I go to Google.com for example, the connection is too slow and it will not connect. The DSL light flashes and is looking for Internet connectivity. This is very annoying and I want to fix my modem (gateway). What should I do to fix it? Should I reset my modem, open it, and or call Verizon tech support?

My new Gateway 21" flat panelmonitor has lines "shivering" or looking like minature EKG readouts...what to do? I chatted with tech support and the tech guy ended up recommending that I change from a VGA connection to a DVI connection. However, this can be costly and am wondering if there is another way. We tried changing the Hertz rate at different resolutions but no change. Do I need a new graphics card by any chance? The PC is about four years old and is 1.3 Ghz with XP Home Edition on it. Tried calling tech support but was put into voicemail that someone would call back within 24 hours. Well no one has of course. So what could be some things to test out or check?

Changing dimensions of Desktop from 4:3 to 14:9.? I had an old monitor or stardard 4:3 format (800X600; 1024X768) etc. I bought a new letterbox type monitor (1400X900) and uninstalled the oldmonitor drivers before installing the disk that came with the new one. After installing and re-installing several times, I still cannot go to property - settings and change dimentions toa 1400X 900 or a proportional dimention. So my computer still shows 4X3 desktop strecehd out horizontally to 14X9. All images are distorted. I called Gateway (the menufaturer) tech support and they actually refered to me to their non-tollfree number and the tech just washed her hads saying that what I had already done is all she could suggest. This is the first time a computer menufeturer actually failed to resolve an issue for me. Any bright ides?

Since my transfer from my Gateway computer to my new Dell, I've lost the ability to send E-mail from Outlook E I can receive messages via Outlook Express, but I can not send or forward. Yahoo/Prodigy have exhausted their tech support. I've spent many hours since PC Relocator was used to make the transfer, but no results. I've also lost my HP 722C printer maintenance screne. Any help to cleat up this nightmare will be appreciated. Between my self and Yahoo/prodigy we have re-configured my Outlook Express E-mail settings at least three times. As yet I cannot send any E-mail. No problem in receiving.

Has anyone ever heard of DSL service working *only* when you are on the telephone at the same time? I transferred my DSL service to another address and now my DSL signal only is active when I am actively on the telephone. I tried unplugging my phone and plugging my DSL line directly into the wall jack and it doesn't help. Currently I have my phone plugged into a filter in one room and my wireless gateway modem plugged into a filter in another room - and yes, the DSL is plugged into the DSL filter jack and the phone is plugged into the phone filter jack :) Right now, my husband had to call our home phone using his cell phone so I can use the internet!!! This is a mystery to tech support. My telephone company is going to send someone out to check my line, but they warned me that the results are uncertain because this is not a common issue. Has anyone come across this before? Do you have any idea what the problem could be?

Which brand of laptop or notebook computer should I get? I have decided to purchase a laptop computer, but I would like some opinions from people who already own laptop computers.
