Where can I find CHEAP USED pc parts? I am looking for a good source for cheap and used PC parts. In particular, I nedd a Pentium III Tualatin 1.4GHZ and I really don't want to pay more then $30.00 or so dollars because it is such old technology. Any ideas? I've tried the conventional ebay, newegg, geeks, craigslist, etc. I'm looking for something a little less obvious.
Where to buy used pc parts? I have a computer that the door that covers the cd drives broke off and I want a new door. I checked ebay and can't find one. I really like this ibm case and have totally rebuilt it into a quad core system, and would hate to have to get a new case over this. I can cram 4 hard drives in this one.
which pc parts are safest to buy used? im planning to build a gaming rig, but to lower cost, i find that i can buy the parts used. so i ask, which parts would usually be safe to buy used? i hear that it will be risky to buy the CPU, PSU, and videocard used because they may be worn out. RAM should be fine and probably the HDD so like whats parts are safe? cooler/fans, Mobo, optical drive...etc...
Where can I find pc parts used, and match them with my pc? I have a pc whose power source and motherboard are not good I am trying to save what parts I can and need to find the replacement parts like motherboard and power supply. I tried Amazon, but how do I know which one is right I also want to sort of upgrade the computer to the mid 2000s and right now its about early 2000s. It is a Compaq Presario windows xp with intel celeron processor 2.6ghz need better than a 256ddr sdram memory and 80 gb of hard drive. I would like to know if anyone knows of a site that you can just put in information and get a compatibility list?
How can I profit from used computer parts? I work on computers and laptops and have lots of defective parts that can't be used in a pc or notebook. Are there any websites or places that I can take my used parts to recyle them or sell them for a profit? any links to sites that are looking for used computer parts?
How to find details about Motherboard and other Parts on Used PC ..... ? I recently purchased a Alien-ware Case from a thrift store here in Las Vegas. It was missing the hard drive, memory, power supply and a couple of other minor things. The manager said they were stolen (gutted!) by someone who knew the value of the parts. It includes the Motherboard, Fans, Processor and pretty much everything else. The manager sold it to me for $10 and I figure it will cost me about $100 to rebuild it. I want to know how to read the motherboard to find out the type of memory needed to get it running and other things you think I might need. I have everything already except memory so any help is really appreciated. Thank you!

Places and stores to buy PC parts in UK? I would like to build a new PC myself from scratch. I did have the experiences on assembling parts myself with the knowledge gained from books, but I can not find any stores that sells stuff like -CPU -motherboard -hard disk -ATX power -display card -tower case etc, as I used to get the parts from my bundle units that previously purchased from Dixons or Currys. Is there any store(s) in nationwide that have these critical parts available?
What parts did you use to build your PC? I am trying to get ideas for what parts to use for my PC and how much it might cost to build one that suits my needs. I would want to build one that is more of a game/media PC but not top of the line. As long as it plays FEAR on a good monitor with surround sound speakers I would be happy. What parts did you use to build your PC (case, processor, hard drive, monitor, speakers, motherboard, fans, etc)? Also where did you buy the parts from and how much did they all cost.

I am trying to sell a computer thats used and im trying to figure its worth. its no specific brand as its full of different brand parts from different pc's that i took parts from to build. its a 2.4 gig, 256 ram with a cd burner and a 40gig hard drive, Includes pre-installed microsoft windows xp professional, microsoft office professional 2000 and norton coporate anti virus that never expires yearly like other anti virus softwares sometimes do. also includes a basic 17" crt monitor along with basic mouse and keyboard. speakers not included. i figure its worth about $250.00 considering a new pc will run about $500.00, plus my pc im selling keep in mind already has windows xp and office and anti virus included, those alone can cost you a couple hundred for the software ! with all that mentioned , how much would you pay for this pc? am i asking too much at $250.00 ? local flea markets in town have computer shows and sell pc's for $150.00 and thats for the whole thing including monitor and keyboard mouse, however the computers they say do not include a operating system !!

I have a couple questions about parts that will be used in my new gaming pc? I will be using this pc for a lot of gaming. Coolermaster Haf-x i7-2600k @ 4.8 Ghz GTX 570 SLI (Good choice? Will the fans already in the Coolermaster Haf-x plus the extra fans keep the system cool considering that both the CPU and the GPU's will be overcloked? Can my 1000W PSU handle this set up? Or will it be stressed to cope? I may be able to get my hands on my bro's pc surround system, would a sound card be a good idea or is the onboard enough? Im fairly new to the concept of building pcs and have only got interested recerntly so if I have left anything out or if you have any better ideas please advise. Oh yeah, any ideas on what Full HD 27" 2ms monitor I should get? Cheers, thanks in advance! Sorry for the essay!

Is it possible to make a notebook pc using desktop parts? Alright, I cannot find a PC on the market with the spec's I need for a good price. So I went out and found the parts from resalers, and it come's to roughly 1800 for the basics. (Core i7, Corsair, Nvidia 9800 GTX+). Now, I have found similar specs in notebook pc's (Alienware, Dell, Sager, Falcon NW, etc.), but those rack up between four and ten thousand dollars. Definitely out of spending range. So, how would I go around making a notebook pc then? I do imagine I may need to make my own chassis, but is there any advice that can be given doing this? EDIT: I know that the part's are not the same size, that's why I meant by making a custom chassis. you know, a 21" or larger perhaps. I know this sounds unethical, but I have limited space. So what I meant was is it possible to make a custom chassis to hold the larger parts, and make your own notebook with it. Quite obviously the parts are larger, I was just curious if you can actually do that. <('',)> Good thing I live in Canada (Maximum security in Prince Albert :S) ;) Haha, but yes, I understand what you mean. Alright, I understand now that it is useless to attempt making one from desktop parts. Thank you very much for the information.
Can someone help me organize parts for a custom PC? Hi im planning to build a custom PC and could use some helping finding parts. If someone could please link parts they recommend. i plan on spending about 400-500 dollars. preferred one website if possible thanks! i would like to be able to run http://us.blizzard.com/support/article.xml?locale=en_US&articleId=40446
Is there anyway I can reuse laptop parts in a new pc build? I know it is probably a longshot but I have a 2 year old Acer Aspire laptop with some issues. It has a pretty good spec so rather than junk the whole unit I was wondering if there were any of the parts such as the motherboard, processor, harddrive, etc that could be used in a new desktop pc build? Has anyone tried doing this?
What parts should i use for making a gaming pc? I want to build a media pc using some parts from an old one. Can I hook up IDE drives with a SATA adapter? I'm fairly limited on a budget and here are the parts that I want to build it with: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16856119012 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820134632 I have a 120GB IDE hard drive and a IDE DVD burner and this mainboard only has SATA cables (I believe). Can I buy adapters for the hard drive and burner so I can use them with this machine? The reason I'm building it is because I want a low power, small sized quiet machine for watching movies and backing up files among multiple laptops, and for $150 to replace my tall large loud power hogging machine would be delightful and about the same speed (because the machine I'm replacing is a 1.6ghz P4) Thanks for your help! The more detailed the better!
I am trying to figure out the name of the silver material using lining the inside of pc parts bags. What is it? Usually when you buy any new pc part, hard drive, etc. they part comes sealed in a silverish bag that protects the part from electromagnetism. What is the name of this material? I used to know what it was but forgot. If no one knows, then is there a type of material that allows an electromagnetic force to pass through it only one way, for example a sheet has side A and B and an electromagnetic force can pass from A --> B but not B --> A? No it is not foil it is an organic compound, more like a plastic but has a metallic shine to it.

Buying used electrostatically sensitive PC components from Ebay - risky? As far as I know, damaging PC components with static electricity is very easy, though wearing a anti-static wrist strap when you touch components removes this risk entirely. I would imagine that if an Ebay seller with no PC building experience, acquired electrostatically sensitive parts without their original packaging and warnings, they probably won't know of the need to take protective precautions against static electricity. Am I wrong about the level of risk? What have your experiences been of buying electrostatically sensitive PC components on Ebay?
how can i find out if my processor is broken without using another pc or parts? i have no other pc or parts compatible, i get no display through VGA or S-video (video card supports multi formats) cannot test D-VI, AMD athlon processor all fans power up, incl graphics card fan, and power supply, aswell as 2 case fans and processor fan, T.V antenna light goes on, so does power light goes on on front, power supply internal fan light(colour), that is all fans and lights on my pc, hope it helps i have already narrowed it down to a blown graphics card, or a overclocked and thus overheated processor, but the P.C is 2nd hand from an unknown source, so i cannot ask if it was overclocked the motherboard is gigabyte 7NF-RZ and i do get a beep imediately after i press the power button
Are used goods (were bought as new) exempt from GST in Australia? ATO info link regarding this issue please? Hi. I would like to sell used PC parts that I obtained new within the last few years. I have an ABN, and Im wondering if I will have to include GST in the prices when making the sales. I've heard that used/second hand goods have GST exempt status in some way. Not sure if that's correct though. So does anyone know and can provide source/reference to the ATO or NSW govt resource that can provide an authoritative answer on this? Thanks.

I'm building a PC using second hand parts and have no idea what PCIE graphics card to choose. Any suggestions? I've got a AMD 64 3800+ (2.4ghz) with 2GB of RAM, which I might upgrade to 4GB at some point. Pretty much every thing else is all set, but I haven't a clue which graphics card to choose. Can anyone suggest something that'd match my other hardware? I know these parts are beginning to age now, so there's no point in choosing a brand new graphics card- not that I could afford it anyhow. Can someone point me to a reasonably priced, decent specification graphics card that'd suit my PC? I don't want a lopsided system, and there's no point in matching a brand-spanking new graphics card with an aging system. My motherboard is a Abit AN8-V and the port is a 16x PCI-E.
Which parts should I buy for building a budget gaming pc with a jpec 411 case? I have a jpec 411 silver platinum case that my dad bought but never used. I would like to build a budget gaming pc with it, and not spend a thousand dollars on it. I don't know a lot about building computers/compatibility, but if I buy the right parts my dad can built it easy. So which parts should I buy, or at least what is compatible? All I know is the case is compatible with ATX motherboards...
Used Computer Parts Store? Are there any computer parts stores around Fort Worth texas that sale pc parts. I know I can order it offline but I would rather buy local just incase I have to return the part. I am well aware of FRY's and Bestbuy and other commercial stores but I am looking for more of a mom and pop shops that sales ram and other parts. I also tried Goodwill while most times have parts it does not have any 184 pin DDR RAM of 1gb or more.
assembling desktop pc in India? I wish to assemble a desktop PC using parts I wish to buy in a Delhi PC retail market (Nehru place). The parts will be all branded - intel processor, gigabyte motherboard etc. What is the chance that such a desktop will work as good as off-the-shelf Dell PC (say), and therefore save and have my say in selecting components? Any previous experience assembling a Desktop in Delhi, India?
Should I have a PC repaired to sell as a working unit or Sell it for parts? I have a 2.2Ghz, 80Gb HD, Geforce Fx5200 (256mb), 1.2Gb Ram PC which i no longer need. When i last used it, the internet wasnt working at all and it was really slow. Should i pay £40 to have the PC checked over for problems and then try to sell it on eBay as a working unit, or just list it as barely working and sell it for parts - or even sell it as parts. I have no idea if anyone would want to buy a second hand PC of these specs given what can be picked up for £500 in Tesco these days.

Recommend compatible parts for home built PC on $700 budget? I'm planning on building my own PC for the first time and have a $700 budget not including the monitor or OS. This setup would not be for hardcore gaming but rather normal home use, some casual gaming and DVD/MP3 playing and storage. Any recommendations on any of the parts? CPU, motherboard, case, video card, HD etc? I've checked out newegg and tigerdirect but now I'm getting so loaded with information it's all starting to blur so any specific recommomendations, have you done this yourself recently - what did you use, would be greatly appreciated.

Building a Computer with Parts from Old Computer? I have a 5 year old dell PC (when I bought it was a middle class PC). I am planning on building a new PC and was not sure what parts i could use from the old one. The new PC would not be used for games but rather as a home business computer. What parts can i salvage from the old PC and what parts do i have to buy new. I am somewhat familiar with PC but never built one before. I know i need a motherboard, but not sure which one to get (what motherboard works best with the new Intel 2 core duo. Also, should i get MS vista or XP, as it seems that most people are having problems with Vista
Building a PC? I am planning to build a PC. Or more specifically, a GAMING PC. I have heard that building a PC using parts i have bought myself is the best way to go for budget and performance. So I'm just basically asking a couple of questions concerning building a PC. Here goes... 1. Do i need to have good or great knowledge in computer skills or ITS? I'm not an amateur when it comes to computers. (well, i hope that's the case =P) I know all main parts of hardware and what they do but would it be Impossible or at least difficult to actually build the PC? 2. I live in Australia and I'm trying to avoid buying parts online. (not that i don;t trust the online market. It's just easier for me right now.) Are there any store at all around Australia (or anywhere else, i don't care) that wold sell quality gaming PC hardware? I'm gonna finish the rest of these questions in DETAILS because I'm running out of characters =P PLEASE READ HERE BEFORE ANSWERING! anyway... 3. If i build a quality Gaming PC, how well would it perform doing other tasks besides running games? I mean a power gaming PC would mean a powerful PC altogether right? 4. this is probably the most asked question concerning building PC's but... What would be the price range? (if you live in Australia please answer in AU$) I mean for at least a good Gaming PC. Obviously i want to get one as cheap as possible but i am looking for a good (not OPTIMAL but at least good...even great) at at least a good price...would that depend on the parts i use? Is there any possible way to cheapen the price and get a great PC at the same time? 5. and just to confirm, what level of skill in IT would it take to build a gaming PC? (I mean actually build it after getting the parts etc)
Upgrading my PC motherboard possibly building my own? I want to upgrade my HP PAVILION 754n that has a pentium 4, 2.5ghz and 512mb sdram (will be upgrading to the maximun of 2 512mb slots this week) with 80gb I want a new CPU preferably a dou core and I would like to build my own PC by using the parts of my old PC is it ok to buy a new motherboard that supports a duo core CPU, plus a new CPU and RAM that is compatible with that motherboard for now. I just dont want to buy all the parts to build an entire PC all at once (cant afford it right now) but I want to build it along the way by later buying a new graphics card, a new power supply, DVD drive, possibly extra storage to make it like 300gb, and well any extras that I would want after that wouldnt be a problem, but I just want to know if what I have in mind is a good idea? Im estimating that spending around $400 on the new motherboard,CPU and RAM would do it (not on the entire PC parts I know that would be more) I just dont want to spend alot more in one shot Thanks
Is there any way that a WD eide hard drive can be used as slave drive in a PC that already has SATA C drive? I feel really stupid. My computer's motherboard crashed, so I looked for a cheap fix. I bought two used emachines, one, like my old one, was EIDE. My old one that had a new WDCaviar 160G. The other a newer, with a SATA Drive. I thought I could use the old emachine starup disc(s). Now I have one dead computer and two that won't install their O/S. I guess that emachines need the EXACT disc(s) to start.I'm hoping to buy and try this universal? recovery disc and install the WD drive with all my files as a slave. I've also considered buying a refurbished EIDE PC from Tiger Direct and giving up on the used parts, emachine thing alltogether. I was hoping to save some money.
Inner parts for MAC and PC should be different? I have an old Macintosh, the CPU is transparent. It is one or two previous model before the NEW tower for the MAc 5. It is old, but works. Can I install Microsoft XP to this MAC or the RAM, hard drive, I do not know, anything else inside the computer have to be different? How can I upgrade this MAC, since the OS is old, and the computer itself. Can I make this MAC a PC by installing Windows XP to it?
