How to make a computer hardware review website? I am planning on making a review website to review computer products. I was wondering how I actually make a website and how I get products to review.
Computer Hardware Reviews? I was wondering how I could contact a company such as AMD in order to request certain things such as Graphics cards for reviewing purposes? Me and my friend would like to start a Youtube channel based around reviewing but we simply cannot afford to buy things just to review them, it's not possible for us. Any help is greatly appreciated, thank you.

Making a computer hardware review site? Do you guys have any suggestions as to how I can do this? I already run a Vista help blog that gets around 4000 uniques per day. I'm guessing to contact some local stores for parts to review =S but I'm not quite sure what direction to follow. Can I have your advice? THanks.
How to recieve hardware from computer manufacturers to review? I am a 15 year old who loves hardware. I dream about GTX 295's in quad sli and the ASUS rampage extreme x58 motherboard. I know a lot about hardware and I know how to review items professionally. How do I ask manufacturers for products? I will start now making video reviews of products I've paid for already 9800GT, Q6600, P5KC mobo etc.
Know of any GOOD and LEGIT intermediate to advanced Computer Review sites? Computer Hardware and Software review sites. The 2 good ones I know of are Anandtech and Tom's Hardware. Are there any other good, comparable ones out there that you know of? I forgot to add, the other 2 good ones I know of are AfterDawn and VideoHelp. I am looking for more of a variety. :-)

purchasing computer hardware online- dead on arrival? Like my other questions, I am planning to build a computer and beginning to buy the parts now. I'm a bit worried about the stuff I get that are DOA (dead on arrival) Is there a high chance of getting dead/ broken hardware when i buy it online? I looked at the reviews there are ALOT of DOA complaints from many customers. Does tigerdirect and newegg have any good return policies for DOA items?
How can I get into a job reviewing computer hardware? I'm 15 and I have a MASSIVE (caps to emphasise how massive it is) interest in computers. I am doing my GCSEs and I write better than anyone in my year and I have better spelling skills than most sixth formers in my form (Vertical tutoring form thing :P). Anyways I would like a job where companies send me a product and I review it, even if I don't get payed I would love to do this. How would I get into a career like this? And what qualifications would I need?

Computer Hardware Issues? I have a HP Pavilion a1510n Media Center Desktop, and thought it still works like it's brand new, i've decided to up its performance a bit with a new processor, http://www.bestbuy.com/site/AMD+-+Propus+Athlon%26%23153%3B+II+X4+Processor+620/9564615.p?id=1218125328805&skuId=9564615, I just want to make sure that this will work with my PC because I'm good with software & programming, but I'm horrible with hardware knowledge. Here are my computers specs, http://reviews.cnet.com/desktops/hp-pavilion-media-center/4507-3118_7-31975711.html?tag=mncolBtm;rnav, and thanks in advance!
Is there a website where I can easily learn which computer hardware parts are best for which purposes? Like, perhaps something that says 'this amount of whatever is good for x and y, but it's not so good for z.' I don't want a review for every individual product. I just want to know what would be good features to look for, ie. how much memory, processing speed, etc. so I can tell for myself whether or not I should buy something. And before someone assumes that I am too simpleminded to use google before coming here, please, DO NOT TELL ME TO USE GOOGLE.
Computer Hardware - Graphics Card (ATI Radeon 3000 IGP)? I am currently using an ancient (10 year old) Gateway that has been reincarnated 3 times. It's crap. Anyway, I found an HP Slimline for around $300 with all decent specs, but I don't know about the graphics. Can it support video very well? Including the occasional HD video, without burning up? Any info, reviews of computers running this integrated graphics card, etc. would be appreciated. Thank you.
what websites rate and rank quality computer hardwares and softwares nad technically reliable reviews?thanks? cpus, motherboards, rams, video cards, hard drives, dvd roms ...etc internet browsers, security ...etc please advise .thanks
Hardware to get to make a computer that will last long? I'm trying to put together a computer that will last for around five years and still be good or preferably better. What kind of graphics card, mobo, and processor should i get? From what i see in the reviews it sounds like either a 580gtx or 590 would be nice but that's about all i know.
Computer hardware help? What do I need for Gaming? Hey I'm looking for some stuff to go in my computer, i dont know what to call it, I'm not in to computers that much. But I'm looking for stuff that will boost my fps (frames per second) and boost my ping when I'm gaming. My friends have told me to get a new video card and more RAM. I have a Dell Inspiron 531 and i got these specs off a website, heres a link. http://reviews.cnet.com/desktops/dell-inspiron-531/4507-3118_7-32486097.html I just want to know what stuff I need to get, like processor, more RAM, video card. And what kind, and where to get it if possible. And I was wondering if I could just take my computer up to like Best Buy or Circuit City and ask them what hardware I can get for around 100 dollars. I am in like a 100 to 150 dollar price range by the way, so keep that in mind, thanks. Oh yeah and another reason I wanted to take my computer somewhere was because I dont know how to install stuff, i mean, i know how to put in ram and a video card, but idk anything about replacing power supplies.
What's a good, up to date book on computer hardware? I was looking at 'Upgrading and Repairing PCs (18th Edition)' by Scott Mueller. I have the 11th edition and was thinking about the new 18th edition. But, after reading some of the more critical reviews on Amazon.com, I'm not so sure I should get it. They say the author doesn't cover some new and commonly used advances like duel core technologies and other such things. Has anyone read this new edition? I'm sure the new edition is great, despite not talking much about a few things. You can read the review at this link: http://www.amazon.com/Upgrading-Repairing-PCs-18th/dp/0789736977/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1211008702&sr=8-1 If you know of a better, up to date book on the subject of Computer hardware, please let me know. I am entering into computer programming and want to study hardware. I can read the 11th edition for historical value if you think there is a better book that doesn't cover history like Scott Mueller does. Thanks all.
whats the best site (that ships to the uk) for computer hardware? i found a product that i wanted and used it on twenga. It gave me a load of sites specialtech microdirect ebay overclokers yellelectric scan novatech pcupgrade computersupermarket tekheads i searched for reviews on them and all of which have bad ones (except ebay but the seller has bad feedback) are there any real legit good sites for UK computer hardware i know a lot of you will say newegg well they don't ship to the uk i don't think and i think it will be expensive and dodgy from tigerdirect because they ask you to call them so they probably don't do it much. please help
Computer Hardware Experts Help Please? On the reviews of the motherboard im getting someone said he needed to upgrade the bios for his phenom ll. Computer hardware Problems? So I'm trying to repair my cousins "de branded" HP computer(Link at the bottom of the post). So here's the story. He was playing some game that I guess stressed his video processor(It's on board). So it gave this warning and it said to restart his computer. so when we restarted it, It wouldn't complete the boot process. It would loop. it would get past the BIOs and to the part where it says Windows w/ a black background and has the moving blue bar under it. So I thought just to re install the OS. So I did. It worked for like 5 mins. then it started to loop again. So when I go to install the OS again, I'll get to the part where to choose a partition and it will say there if no disk available/inserted. But the weird thing is the BIOs still reads it. I already tried to reset the CMOS/BIOS. I even too the HDD and used it in my own computer. It booted up perfectly. So my guess is something with the motherboard. Anyone know what could be the problem? Heres the link: http://www.levitoncompany.com/hpdeco2duo111.html And the mobo is a P5LP-LE ASUS mobo Link: http://www.ascendtech.us/itemdesc.asp?ic=MB4HPLEUCITE&eq=&Tp= I read some reviews of the mobo and it said it had some bad BIOs and stuff.
Some computer hardware questions! yay? Allright, so i'm planning on buying a new laptop soon(couple weeks) and just a few questions about some hardware, I've been going back n fourth on company websites just looking at whats cheap and what not and come across a few things im not too sure about so here they are 1) whats the difference in intel proccessor duo t9500 2.6ghz 6mb cache 800mhz VS a intel procs, duo e6850 3.0ghz 4mb cache 1333mhz? which one is better? Like is 6mb a lot better than 4 to make it better than the 3.0 ghz? im stumped there. 2) Ram question how significant is 4gb ram 667mhz to 800mhz, one company doesn't show 800mhz but the other has Both, is there a Huge difffernce or maybe a fraction or something? Also i plan on getting a 8800m gtx graphics card, was just curious if anyone knew anything about a release date on the next G card for laptops? anytime soon? and(software) Windows XP or Vista, this question is driving me crazy so many mixed reviews.. I'm leaning towards XP and 32 or 64bit?

My computer question (Hardware)!!!? Hi all. I am in the process of restoring an old computer to a gaming machine, and I am relatively new to the process, yet I am learning quickly. I just had a few questions. Will all of these items I am planning on purchasing be compatible with each other? This is obviously crucial, so any feedback here is much appreciated. Video Card: (Reviews say it's a big card, yet will it fit in any case? I have an old Dell Dimension case). http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102873 CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103871&cm_re=Athlon_2_x4_640-_-19-103-871-_-Product A-DATA DDR3 RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820211364 Power Supply: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817153113 Motherboard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813138283 That should be about it, and I thank you for looking at the items and all the feedback. How does the setup look? Any suggestions? I'm on a pretty tight budget so I'm a bit stuck right now. The main thing I'm worried about is compatibility. One more quick thing. Know any really cheap, yet efficient HDD? Please throw me a link if you can. Happy hunting!

Building a Computer...Can you help me!?!? Ok so i am currently running a Pentium 4 dell factory 8300 desktop computer. http://reviews.zdnet.co.uk/hardware/desktops/0,1000000968,10004197,00.htm I updated the graphics card last year to a very nice ATI card, and i also added another 512 stick of Ram. Everything is fine on it, but i just want more speed/power/reliability. So i am wanting to build myself a new computer and purchase the parts off of new egg. My question is what all do I need to buy, and what can i steal from my old comp? I figure the new Core Duo processor is a must. (2.0 GHZ) I also am going to get a new tower. (This will come with a power supply). I will steal my old graphics/video card as well as mouse, keyboard, speakers, and monitors. Do I need to buy a CD-Rom, CD-RW, CD-DVD or can i steal these too? Motherboard? If so how much memory usage do i need for serious gaming? Sound card, can i steal this from the Dell? Ram, I currently have a gig of ram in the other comp, can i steal these too?

I need some help building a Gaming Computer please.? So Im constantly told that if i want a good gaming computer for a price that is not stupid then i should consider building it my self. However.... Im not to confident in my computer experience im pretty good with computers and still learning a lot, putting the computer together is not the issue its just buying the right parts. I don't want to receive a box full of components for a badass computer and end up having a wrong piece or " this type of video card doesn't fit with this chipset " kind of thing. Since there so many brands and different types of computer hardware i decided to ask help here and if someone could be nice enough to guide me to a rite buy so i can have a good first time building experience. This is what i have come up with so far. 1.AMD Phenom ll X4 955 Black Edition Deneb 3.2 GHz 4x 512 L2 Cache 6 MB L3 Cache Socket AM3 125W Quad Core ( i read some reviews and it seems that this is a good choice can pretty much play any game on highest ) $139.99 2.EVGA 012-P3-1472 AR GeForce GTX 470 (Fermi) SuperClocked 1280MB 320bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card ( its a pretty kickass card but if it is too advance for games today i would consider a downgrade and upgrade to this card later own if any of you think that. ) $269.99 3. G.SKILL 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240 Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Triple Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL9T-6GBNQ ( Although i was set on getting anything higher than 4 GB after researching most of the games out today only require around 4 GB to run them i could always upgrade later on to 6 or 8 GB, let me know if thats a wise choice ). $119.99 4. GIGABYTE GA -870A-UD3 AM3 AMD 870 SATA 6GB/S USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard ( now this is where im completely clueless i don't know much about motherboards i just recently found out that this is where the Video card goes and also the RAM and thats just because i was looking for one for so long, tell me if this is a good MB or if i should upgrade or downgrade. ) $93.99 5. Western Digital Caviar Black WD1002FAEX 1 TB 7200 RPM 64 MB Cache SATA 6.0GB/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive (I think this is all i need for my HD space and also i want to downgrade to 500GB i dont really need 1TB atm, if this isnt what i need for HD space then let me know.) $89.99 6. Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit $99.99 7. APEVIA ATX AQ700W-BK 700W ATX 12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready Power Supply ( Im guessing this is correct not sure if i need 700W but i looked up the Video Cards requirements that i listed uptop and it said it needed a minimum of 550W's, if i dont need this much let me know ) $64.99 everything is being purchased at Newegg.com Thats all that i got and them i stopped because i didn't know what's next, I just want to be able to play all games on highest with no lag ( Crysis , SC2, Diablo 3, CoD BO , and others ) My Budget comes to a halt at $ 850.00's Yes for what im asking its probably nothing but its what i have and i need to work with it feel free to suggest any brand any type of hardware or if i should upgrade that piece or downgrade but just keep in mind $850.00's and i want to play todays games on high. Thanks a bunch i really appreciate it, would be doing wonders and saving me from purchasing a expensive prebuilt computer that doesn't exactly meet my standards. (keep in mind i still have not purchased a Moniter or mouse or keyboard :D.....)
How do I get started in the software/computer technology field? I am a guy turning 16 and I think one of the few fields i would like to get into is the above mentioned. That topic is about as broad as it can get. The problem for me right now is that I don't know where to start. This covers everything from web design, programming, graphic design, code, to hardware, how computer hardware works (ie so i could be able to fix/diagnose pc problems)....and pretty mcuh anything else you can think of along those lines. I heard of a site called Lynda.com that does software training by video, which sounds good, and looking at the reviews it seems worth it, but even then i don't know what to learn about first. I want to start out broad-minded in the software/computer technology field and then eventually narrow it down to one particular area like web design or something while still having an overall general knowledge of everything (and not just software, hardware and general computer/electronics technology). Any suggestions about how to go about doing this? How did you do it? I really want to get a head start on a career and im eager to get started soon. What should I do? 10 points thanks!
whats this computer worth? This is a great used computer that would be fantastic for anyone to use. The only reason iam getting rid of this is because i got a new laptop and i no longer need this. Very clean and works great There is also a sound card and ethernet card in the machine both work. Here is some more indept descriptions of the items , since some of you were curious. What's the best external hard drive for the price? I just bought a Western Digital MyBook, and after a week it crashed and my computer stopped recognizing it. I'm afraid of this happening again, and am unsure of what to buy. The Fantom Titanium II and SimpleTech both have my eye, but I can't find enough reviews to make a good decision. Can you either help me find a site with good hardware reviews, or give me some of your own experiences with Fantom and SimpleTech drives? External only! Edit: I HAD an internal drive in an external case, but housing internal drives in cases cuts their lifespan down by a year or more. I need something that's going to last for a year or two and won't melt from overheating like my hard drive in the external housing case did. Edit 2: The MyBook is not recognized by any of the three computers in our house. What happened was my computer crashed (it crashed 5 times since using the MyBook, it has never crashed before, and never crashed again since it was taken off) and when I restarted it, the MyBook was no longer recognized. I have a Dell Insprion 1501, but it is not recognized by any of the other PC's here. It's definitely broken. Edit 2: The MyBook is not recognized by any of the three computers in our house. Edit: 532 I have a very large music collection that will not fit on my main hard drive, and I don't want to go through the process of installing a new hard drive on my laptop and reinstalling windows. The hard drive will hold, and play my music collection, which is upwards of 80 gigs. It will also be used for backup storage of the 80 gig on my laptop.
Upgrading hardware...is it compatible? After days of snooping around I have settled on a possible system build and I was hoping I could have it checked before I go off and blow this kind of money on it. I already have these parts which I'm bringing over from my old computer: PSU: OCZ GameXStream 700 Watt (http://www.ocztechnology.com/products/power_management/ocz_gamexstream_power_supply-nvidia_sli_ready_ ) Graphics Card: e-GeForce 8800 GTS (http://www.motherboards.org/reviews/hardware/1734_2.html ) HDD: Maxtor 6V300F0 (http://www.newegg.com/product/product.aspx?Item=N82E16822144014 ) And these are the parts I'm planning on picking up. CPU: Intel i5 750 Motherboard: ASRock P55 Extreme http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.280692 RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231277 I'm just wondering if this is all compatible(tech newbie) and if I'll be okay on XP until I pick up Windows 7. Thanks!
Please Correct Run-Ons? 1. Read each of the following sentences below. 2. Rewrite the run-on sentences. 3. Then, write what type of "fixing technique" you used to fix the run on. 4. For sentences that are correct as is, write CORRECT next to them. * The easiest way to fix a run-on is to separate the two sentences with a period and a capital letter. Run-On: A gopher runs errands for others, gophers should be energetic. Corrected: A gopher runs errands for others. Gophers should be energetic. * You can also fix a run-on by adding a comma and a conjunction. Run-on: Many professionals are too busy to do errands themselves they need someone who can help them. Corrected: Many professionals are too busy to do errands themselves, so they need someone who can help them. * If the two sentences are closely related, add a semicolon. Run-On: Some gophers are required to have a driver's license most gophers ride bicycles. Corrected: Some gophers are required to have a driver's license; most gophers ride bicycles. * Add semicolon, a conjunctive adverb, and a comma if needed. Run-On: Gophers may be paid for the gasoline they use they should negotiate the payment before accepting each job. Corrected: Gophers may be paid for the gasoline they use; however, they should negotiate the payment before accepting each job. * Make one of the clauses subordinate by adding a subordinating conjunction. Run-On: Bike-riding gophers ride fast, they can become dangerous to pedestrians. Corrected: When bike-riding gophers ride fast, they can become dangerous to pedestrians. 1. How to prepare for an AMD interview for the position of Hardware Qualification? I'm an electrical engineering student at Uni of Waterloo and I have an interview for AMD on Tuesday. Here are the requirements for my job : SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS * Good understanding of Computer Hardware. Platforms as well as external components (Power Supplies, Hard Drives, etc. etc.). * Good understanding of how to Install and update Computer Software (Microsoft Windows O/S, Drivers, and Applications) as well as Platform firmware such as CMOS Bios. * Good Organizational skills are a must to be able to multitask and run multiple test platforms at the same time. * Component level Board debugging which will require knowledge of test tools and Schematic knowledge. I really want this job and I do have a general understanding of the hardware in computer but I was wondering if there was anything in particular that I should study or review for this interview that would give them the impression that I really knew my stuff. I've already been learning about the various computer hardware components but I wanted to know if there was anything in particular I should know or something I should learn that may not have been taught to me yet?

Need help deciding which computer (out of 2) would be better for gaming.? 1st machine: Asus g73 Model: G73JHRF-BST7 i7 processor 640gig HD 6gigs DDR3 RAM ATI Radeon HD 5870 A link to more info: http://www.it-echo.com/2011/02/06/asus-g73jhrf-bst7-review-17-3-laptop-w-core-i7-740qm-factory-refurbished.html The 2nd machine: Intel Duo Core T7500 2.9ghz Overclocked to 3.6ghz Stable P5Q-E Motherboard (New 2 weeks old still have box) 6gb DDR2 Ram (16gb Max) 500gb 7200 RPM drive and a 250gb backup 2x 5770 1gb in Crossfire Creative SoundBlaster Audigy 2 Windows 7 Professional Coolermaster HAF 932 FULL TOWER (new 4 weeks old) Case (new) Corsair CPU Water Cooler H50 (New 3 weeks old) I realize the processor on the second machine is outdated, and that the motherboard only supports DDR2 ram, but I dont know enough about computer hardware to make the call myself. Seems to me the crossfire 5770s would be great for gaming though. Edit: Hey alex. Thanks so much for your answer. Just to let you know, the first machine is a laptop, so im guessing the 5870 is a mobile version, where as the second machine is a desktop and is crossfiring 2 desktop gpus. Is your answer still the same, or would this make a huge difference, because i cannot add anything (like the second gbu you suggested to the lappy). Thanks again for your help man. Edit 2: Ok so for sure I should trade right? Thats all this is, I am debating on trading my laptop (the g73) for a desktop that a guy is offering me instead of paying me money ( i am selling laptop to build desktop so i figure why not just trade one for the other lol). Processors are relatively cheap now, so im not worried about that too much, and the duo core will run fine im sure. The motherboard has also been getting good reviews. Also going back to ddr2 from the laptop which has ddr3 isnt that big of a deal either i presume? Yeah definitely play higher end games. Playing Crysis 2 now (laptop runs it very smoothly). I am ultimately preparing for battlefield 3. I have been trying to sell my laptop on craigslist for $950 with no luck, eventhough I paid 1200 2 months ago, and still have the warranty. Could I build a better desktop than the one he is selling for less than $900 if i managed to sell the laptop? So i played around on newegg, and if i sell my laptop, I can build this rig: http://i53.tinypic.com/11bkl68.png Is it better than the computer he is offering me?
I need to write a tech review for Computer service class...? Does anyone have a suggestion of a topic i could use for something to write about i need a semi new piece of technology that would apply to my feild of study which is almost everything i can accept programs, Hardware, or websites as long as they are rather new and are complex enough to review. Laptop Keyboard troubles?!? In October 2006, my mum and dad bought me a new laptop as my dad wanted the one I already had. It is a Gateway MX8716b and was bought from Tesco. It was exclusive to Tesco and the 17 inch screen and memory is exactly the right amount for me. However, I had the laptop for 7 months before it had to be sent to Germany under warranty as the 'O' key had broken off and would not reattach. It came back after 3 days and was ok but on Friday, the 'P' key came off and a very small piece of the retainer has broken off. I don't want to tell my dad that it is broken because I am worried about how he will react. I am fed up with the problems now and I am seriously considering just leaving the laptop and buying a PC. I read some reviews on the internet about the laptop and many have commented on the keyboard. (http://www.iwr.co.uk/personal-computer-world/hardware/2196391/review-gateway-mx8716b-notebook). Would I be better to show my dad these reviews? I am worried about what he will say. Also, would it be worth the money to replace the keyboard? Thanks in advance for the help
How come my webcam won't work? so i have http://www.activewin.com/reviews/hardware/cameras/logitech/clicksmart510/index.shtml this kind of webcam. this is the first time i've used it in a few weeks. when i plugged it into my laptop it doesn't work? i pressed every button there is that's on the webcam, and nothing. i even checked to see if it's plugged in, meaning i looked in the computer file and looked for any plug-ins. so, help?
Is my computer compatable with a new graphics card I'm thinking about buying? Alright well my computer is a hp pavilion a6242n and after looking at the specs I realized it was running onboard graphics. Well I cant just leave it like it is so I figured I would upgrade to an actual graphics card. The computers specs are here http://www.kaboodle.com/reviews/hp-pavilion-a6242n-b-desktop-computer-bundle-with-amd-athlon-64-x2-dual-core-processor-4800-and-22-widescreen-lcd-monitor and the graphics card I'm looking at is here http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130085 I'm not extremely good with computers(as far as hardware goes) so I'm not sure if its compatible with the rest of my computer so I was wondering if you guys could help me out or offer another graphics card that would work as well. Any help would be great
Can someone help me think of a YouTube Account Name? I'm thinking of creating a YouTube account to begin making my own videos. I intend to base them on a 'tech-show' as I am good with using computers; I wish to upload videos that describe how components of a computer may work, how to get software/hardware, review programs and review computers. I have no ideas. But my normal video browsing YouTube account is: AaronA1495. But I want to leave that account for personal use and have a separate account for my 'tech-show'. Any names given will be taken into concideration and I would like to thank those who will come up with good ideas instead of others who are bound to say such answers as: "Think of one yourself!" "Go copy someone else's!" "Do your own research!!!" I find these answers to be rude as if I could have already thought of a YouTube account name I wouldn't be asking on 'Yahoo Answers'. ALL relevant ideas are welcomed. Original Ideas are welcomed. THE BEST IDEA WILL GET SELECTED AND WILL BE NOTIFIED! Thank-You for helping me. Aaron Alderson
Is it possible to hook my xbox 360 to my computer monitor? I've been doing a bit of research..but I still don't really know what's going on. My monitor is a 19" Dell LCD, it connects to my computer with VGA Highest resolution is 1280 x 1024 I know I would need to get some sort of adapter or cord to go from the 360 to the monitor..but I just want to be sure it would work with this monitor first. hmm.. Would this do the trick? http://hardware.teamxbox.com/reviews/xbox-360/40/Xbox-360-VGA-HD-AV-Cable/p1/ All right..so from the port on the back of the xbox, that has video and sound and the cable I have right now is a composite..red, yellow, white..and that just goes to the back of the tv. So I was thinking to go from that to the monitor I would need to have a vga on the other end. But what about the sound? well I'm really just wondering..would anything work?
Can the same computer not be as good quality? Im going to buy a new macbook pro, 13 inch. (1199 USD). From other people's reviews, it seems to be really fast, as in clicking on a program and it opening up immediately. Is it possible for the one i get to be somewhat slower or somewhat different, even if i have the same preferences (or coincidentally the same programs)? Or are all models the same, and it depends on how i treat the computer and what put on it. I'm talking about the hardware. Will all computers perform the same if they were just taken out of the box. Or can one computer just be bad, even though it has the same hardware. Sorry for it being confusing, i cant explain this in words.

Is the "HP Pavilion Computer featuring AMD Athlon II X4 Quad Core 620 (P6211F)" a good computer for me? I'll have a maximum of 4.5GB of songs and probably around 8GB of photos. Do you think this computer would run smoothly? Also, will this PC be able to play 'The Sims 3' ? Because unfortunately, I got this game for my birthday and my old computer wasn't able to run it. If possible, I would like to know what this computer really is capable of (an general overview), I have read many review and hardware specs and it seems pretty good to me I'm also looking into the 'HP Pavilion Intel Pentium E5300 Computer (P6241F)' ... is this one better? Thank you very much! I'm planning on getting a computer soon and this may just help me make the decision on which computer to get, for my current one is almost 9, almost 10 years old. It's very old (has the big screen and all) and I'm unable to keep it on for a long period of time, which interferes with my activities. Once again, Thank you for all answers :)!
Macbook pro compared to my current computer...? My current computer is a gateway p series notebook with a intel dual core processor at 2.26 ghz with 3mb cache, 4 gigs of ram, and an nvidia geforce 9800m gts with 1 gig of video memory. I am looking at the current mac book pro 17 inch with an i7 2.66 ghz, 8 gb of ram, and an nvidia 330 gts with 512 mb of video memory. I have searched for reviews on mac book pro benchmarks to compare to my computer but all the articles i have found feature a lesser geared 15 inch mac book or an older generation. I would like to have a general idea on how it would compare to my computer, really the only game I run is world of warcraft, but I do raid in it so I am seeing the most hardware demanding side of it. I know that a lot of people say macs just run better than PCs but it seems their hardware comes out less. unless there is something in the OS for macs that make better use of that hardware. It would seem my computer would run at least games just as good with the extra video memory.

My hardware has everything the review said... but why not the video card? apparently its supposed to have a 1gig nvidia graphic card but i have a 7100 nvidia 256mb card...??? This computer was designed for games .. yet i got a crappy card WHY??
Is it possible to move a motherboard to a new case? I have the HP Pavillion a6228x (http://reviews.cnet.com/desktops/hp-pavilion-a6228x-athlon/4507-3118_7-32787360.html?tag=sub). It's an OK little rig, but it wasn't meant for gaming at all; I don't really have the money right now to buy a new computer, save for a few much needed parts (a better power supply, another hard drive, etc.) My question is this; is it possible to move the motherboard from this case and transfer into a new one? I believe that this is the motherboard: NVIDIA GeForce 6150 SE / nForce 430 Thanks for your help: I have a general knowledge of computers, but hardware is where I really know next to nothing... Thanks in advance.

Can you recommend a book for my Networks and Communication Module? Hi everyone! I am currently in my second year of a Computer Science degree taking a module in Networks and Communication. I have no provious knowledge of this area so would like a book that explains everything easily with examples. I was recommended Computer Networks by Andrew S. Tanenbaum but have heard mixed reviews and many students have found it hard to understand. Learning outcomes of the module To introduce the concepts, data types, hardware, software, technologies and issues involved with networks and data communications. The student should develop: good knowledge of the use of data communication networks for e-mail; file transfer and hypertext transfer; understanding of ISO OSI 7-layer model for data communications and how this relates to TCP/IP suite of communication protocols; appreciation of data formats used in data communucations; understanding of modus operandi of clients & servers connected to internet and of the types of communication software they use. Also the course contents are: E-mail; the client/server concept; coding schemes for data; Hamming code; Huffman code; encryption, local area networks; Ethernet; TCP/IP. The ISO OSI 7-layer model - the physical layer, the data link layer, the medium access layer, the network layer, the transport, the session layer, the presentation layer, the application layer; protocols using Java.net. My lecturer recommended the book I mentioned above but talking to previous students of this module they wouldnt recommend it.
Does anyone know any useful websites for building computers? I'm looking for up to date information / reviews regarding hardware etc. Thanks in advance!
Buying new computer-what should I get? (Please give lots of opinions)? I want a new computer. My old Dell Optiplex GX620 crashes every 40min. due to a hardware & virus issue. I'm not overly concernced with whether its a mac or pc... but lets get to the chase.... I want something decently fast and that can play movies(like standard itunes definition, no HD is needed. And i know what you will say about HD but I really don't care). So I essentialy want something with; intel core duo processor of atleast 2GHz or any dual core processor, a 256mb or greater video card, and b/g/n wifi(bluetooth is a bonus). Memory, 2GB is enough and its standard, and i just need a 250GB+ hardrive(just about standard too). I'm mainly looking at Dell because it has good reviews and other companies-HP, Toshiba, others are in my experience and knowledge bad because they have so much extra software(experience w/ HP printers make me wanna never look at them again). So I'm down to a mac or a pc. Price for hardware is my biggest concern. I'm familiar mostly with windows but either OS is okay with me. The runners up are the (these are all Dell's) Insprion 13, (configured @ $800), Inspiron 15(configured $824), Studio 15($1,039), Studio 17(about same as 15), Inspiron Zune HD(desktop $603), Studio Slim Desktop($834-best hardware for price). As for the macs I'm sticking to the cheap ones; mac mini, macbook, 13inch macbook pro. Everyone says macs are easier. I'm somewhat good with computers and hope to be an extremely advanced user one day. But I mostly use Opera(internet browser), iTunes, Microsoft word, and an application for my Sony HandyCam DCR-SR47(which will suck because it sounds like it won't work with a mac). I have 3 antisoftware/virus/trojan/active protection software on my Dell but somehow I still got a virus(partially because they're free or it expired). So I don't know what to do. I have enough money for anything I listed but I'm not sure how much I want to spend. In the end PC OR MAC? and why? and does the hardware matter when its running snow leopard(I don't plan on doing much gaming). Please recommend particular software/hardware that you found awesome/cool/useful/pointless
New Computer but old processor makes gaming sloooowwwww? I just recently built a new computer. Asus Striker Extreme MotherBoard, 2 gigs of OCZ Reaper Memory 800Mhz, 8800 GTS G92 512mb....However i ran out of money and decided to use my processor from my old computer its a Pentium 4, 3.2 HT....So when i booted up my computer and ran Crysis it still didnt run that well..also i ran 3Dmark06 and only got a score of 5,000 when other people with the same graphics cards are scoring over 20,000 and are able to play crysis smoothly at a resolution of 1680x1050...So my question is...does having a old processor really slow down my system that much and make gaming that bad...because i have read reviews of crysis running at my resolution and using my gpu card and they are getting on average around 30 fps and i only get like 9 or maybe 10 at the same settings???? or is something wrong with my other hardware?...anything would be of much help...Thanks
It gave me a load of sites specialtech microdirect ebay overclokers yellelectric scan novatech pcupgrade computersupermarket tekheads i searched for reviews on them and all of which have bad ones (except ebay but the seller has bad feedback) are there any real legit good sites for UK computer hardware i know a lot of you will say newegg well they don't ship to the uk i don't think and i think it will be expensive and dodgy from tigerdirect because they ask you to call them so they probably don't do it much. please help http://www.ciao.co.uk/aria_co_uk__5107395 not too good aparently
any one eant tips on building a computer? just though id leave tips for anyone planning on making their own computer: Basic Hardware Info: There are several main parts builders need to know: the motherboard, CPU, power supply, RAM, video card, case, hard drives, optical/floppy drives, and sound cards. Most people believe that you build a system around the CPU, an AMD or Intel processer chip. That's incorrect. A builder knows that when you build a PC, it's based off of the motherboard. The motherboard is pretty much like a human skeletal system: EVERYTHING is put together from it. The first thing you need to do is figure out what kind of a PC you want to build: Are you building a basic computer, to do Word and Excel and some web browsing? Or a pimped out, ultimate gaming rig? Or how about a nice Home Entertainment PC? Once you figure that out, you can then select the parts you will need. The big differences between these three is: 1) You only need basic parts for the basic computer, nothing extravagant. Don't need a dedicated GPU (video card), when only a built-in GPU will work fine. Cheapest system to make, really. 2) You are going for the best bang for the buck or the highest priced parts available today. Budget gamers, and mid-gamers aim for the best bang for the buck method, sometimes building a system around the idea of using a certain part that they want (ex. they get the best video card they can, and skimp on the other parts as best as they can). 3) A HTPC (Home Theater PC) can be more expensive than a typical gamer's rig because of the essential component in this PC: Silence. A HTPC is made to be like TIVO; go through TV channels, but you can also burn/record them onto your hard drive, and you can even do some web browsing on that nice 50" Samsung LCD HDTV you bought a month ago. As such, HTPC makers biggest focus is on the CASE because that defines how big of a system they can make, and how much cooling they can get while putting as much of the best parts into it the case can handle. As you can see, these 3 basic building functions are very diverse and different from each other. HOWEVER, thats just the pure build idea; a budget PC can be a budget gaming rig; and a decent gaming rig can also second as a HTPC. It comes down to how you build it and what you use. Now, we're going to work on the assumption that you are building a gaming rig, like most of us do. 1) The motherboard. YOU MUST DECIDE two things before selecting a motherboard, IMHO. A) Intel or AMD? If you're worried about the flat dollar amount of the build, go with AMD as their CPUs are, AT THE MOMENT, cheaper. Bang for the buck, or best you can get, methods of buying will mean getting an Intel chip. Preferably a Core2Duo chip that's based off their new FSB 1333MHz standard, and not the old 1066MHz. B) Graphic card: NVIDIA or AMD (originally ATI until it was bought by AMD). You can SLI your video card, or Crossfire it, which are two different methods of using 2 PCI-E video cards from Nvidia or AMD. Most of us use NVIDIA, though there are some good bang-for-the-buck models from AMD. There are several brands of motherboard makers out there today: ECS, Biostar, ASUS, Gigabyte, and Intel to name a few. They all offer various functions and features, and warranties. Personally, I like Gigabyte bc of their warranties, and they've been more reliable for me than ASUS been (I've used 2 different Gigabyte boards without a single failure, whereas Asus 1 and only did die on me). Other things to make sure about: Make sure the mobo you select supports DDR2, and even DDR3 speeds for RAM. Currently, the standard is now DDR2 800MHz RAM, but more and more of us are using DDR2 1066MHz RAM for that extra OOMPH! Just remember the two things you decided upon earlier, and your choice of MOBOs are cut in half. 2) CPU: Now, whichever socket the motherboard you bought supports, is the kind of CPU you need to buy. You bought a quad-core Intel chip for $300, but skimped on the motherboard and bought it for only $20. Oh no! The mobo isn't the type of socket you needed; it's an old P4 model, not the model that can support that quad chip of yours. LGA775 is the standard socket for Intel Core2Duo chips, currently. AMD's is Socket AM2. Intel has gone from a 90, even a 65nm chip (the size of the chip) down to a 45nm chip. These new chips need less power and gives off less heat, but they do SO MUCH MORE processsing power, that whatever power and heating was saved is gone as you abuse and use that chip for everything in gaming. The sweet spot today for Intel chips, in my opinion, is the E6750, a 2.66GHz, core2duo chip, dual core and above, including the new 8000 series from Intel (the 8200 would be the 45nm equivalent of the 65nm 6750). AMD Im out on the loop of, but there a number of great price-performance ratio CPUs on the market today. 3) Power Supply. There's one rule of thumb here with a PSU: You get what you buy! There is absolutely NO POINT in buying the best PC parts in the world if your PSU is a POS. If a PC requires more power than given by a PSU, not only will it NOT run, but it may also fry and take your expensive $200 motherboard and $300 video card with it. There are several reliable manufacturers on the market, and RELIABILITY is the biggest pricing concern with PSUs. Targan, PC Power and Cooling, those two are the creme of the crop in PSU manufacturers. However, to get that nice 850 watt PSU from PC-PC, you;'re gonna fork over $180. A tad bit pricey. There are some budget PSUs on the market with good reliability, so they're cheaper than others (just not as good). Depending on the build, a decent gaming rig will want AT LEAST 550 watts of power, and you need to make sure it has the cables you need to power everything correctly. I hit a roadblock when my PSU didnt have the necessary power (500 watt PSU) to power everything in my PC when I upgraded from a 6600GT 128MB video card to a 8800 GTS 320MB vid card. Ending up getting a "patch," a dedicated GPU PSU, which has the necessary cable attachments to plug and power it. Beats spending another 80 bucks over the "patch's" price. 4 RAM. One of the easiest, and hardest choices, to make. Simple because you really only need to, or should, buy is DDR2 800MHz. It's hardest because first off, you gotta deal with ALL of the different RAM makers out there; GEIL, Patriot, OCZ, Corsair.. the list goes on and on. AND on top of that, there are MULTIPLE models for each RAM standard; Geil has like a dozen different models that fits under the DDR2 800MHz classification. AND on top of that too, do you want to stick with 800MHz or maybe cut a few bucks, and go only with DDR2 533 or 667MHz, or maybe spend a few more for that DDR2 1GHz RAM? 5) Video card: Only two manufacturers for these babies; AMD and Nvidia. AND though they have multiple models, most of them are based off the PCI-E socket, and don't overlap each other in performance or price... usually. However, these two are Direct Competitors, so when one offers $150 over-performing video card, the other will certainly try to match, or beat, it. Or maybe give you slightly reduced power at a bigger reduce price. Personally, I recommend NVIDIA as they have the best performing video cards on the market. This is an easy hardware part to review for because you really gotta worry about two things only: PRICE, and performance. And to do that, well price is easy, just look online and see the prices. Performance? Anandtech.com, tomshardware.com, etc etc. Such sites give you video card performance comparisons. So you can see for yourself how good they are. 6) Case. There a variety of cases, but lets stick to the simplest three: HTPC Case, Mid-tower, and Full tower. HTPC are usually short in height, with long lengths and widths. Almost like a TIVO box, so to speak. Mid-tower and Full tower cases are what you are more familiar with. These are the cases that are rectangular with narrow widths, but moderate to big height and lengths. And obviously, a full tower is just bigger than a mid-tower. There are over 20 different case manufacturers listed on newegg.com, but there are certain brands that are better than the rest: Apevia, Antec, Thermaltake, Lian-Li. These manufacturers have built reliable, and performing, cases for a gamer, and though their prices can be high, its bc of the reliablility and brand rep that manufacturer has. The biggest concern with a case is: how big are the parts are you buying, and how do you want to cool them. If you're getting a dual-slot video card, sound card, full size motherboard (yes, there are smaller motherboards), several optical and hard drives... you will need a full tower just to cram all that stuff in. But if you got a single slot video card, one HDD, 1 or 2 optical drives, etc. etc. You may only need a mid-tower. Anyways, I prefer full towers as they have better cooling, and just the extra room I can use for future upgrades. They are HEAVY to carry around, but its good exercise. That's the biggest tradeoff between the two: weight (and price too). Additionaly, I look for a case with at least one 120mm fan. Now, the cooling concept is NOT how many fans you got, but how much airflow you can get. 2x120mm fans have better airflow than 3, even 4x80mm fans. Not to mention that they give off a lot less noise; it takes less rpm for a 120mm fan to generate the amount of airflow a 80mm fan does at full speed. Other features in a case to look for: hinge doors with locks, location of the USB, and sound ports in the front, and case windows. This is where personal style really does take effect as people normally only see the case; getting a case with a window, however, will let them see inside it and add a few cathode lights, it looks AWESOME! 7) The hard drives, optical/floppy drives, and sound cards are easy parts in comparison to the first six to understand. Hard drive is like your brain; it stores ALL the information you got. There are several kinds of HDDs on the market; only two to worry about today, really, maybe three, are IDE, SATA, and SSDs. IDE and SATA drives are called that based of the connection they use; either an IDE or SATA connection. Recommendation: Stick with the SATA drives as SATA connections are faster than IDEs (and easier to install!). SSD means Solid-State Drives. This is a new hard drive developed and produced on the market today based off of the RAM/Flash storage concepts. Regular hard drives has several, moving parts in it, reducing their reliability, and thus the reason why system errors can develop over time; the hard drive is just slowly dying out. A SSD, on the other hand, has NO moving parts and is pretty much RAM technology, configured as a hard drive. Only problem is that these babies are EXPENSIVE, and not that big. A 750GB Sata HDD can cost about $120, whereas a 30GB SSD can cost about $300. See the problem? The biggest saving grace about SSD is their speed, having 4x the read/write speeds of a regular HDD at times. Testing has shown that where it may take several seconds for Windows to load on a regular hard drive, you can't time a SSD's loading time as Windows just pops up immediately. It's THAT FAST. Anyways, Look for AT LEAST a 250GB SATA hard drive, 7200rpm (not 5400). Faster RPM means faster speed, but reduced reliability as well, and more power being consumed. 7200RPM is today's standard, and 250GB will work for most people's needs. HOWEVER, if you save a lot of data, look for more storage if you can, and don't forget, you can put several hard drives into the same PC. Only one HDD needs to have an OS installed on it, while the rest are just storage drives for it. I got 2x320GB hard drives, and 1x750GB hard drive. Only one of my 320GB drives has Windows on it, the rest are filled up with movies, music, and games. (Ask Elwoodini how much storage you have, it's insane!) You know what optical drives are: A CD-ROM, CD-RW, DVD-ROM, DVD-/+RW, or Blu-Ray. Simplest answer: Just buy a DVD-/+RW drive, or two, unless you want to play HD movies on

Computer colour issue? Hey, thanks! So, for a while, I was running HyperCam on my computer (a desktop recorder) to do some game reviews, and I got a message telling me my desktop colour and screen was too much for it to manage any recording. It suggested I change a few things to slow down my computer's performance so that it would be capable of recording the screen. Now, I really cannot recall what changes I made that were so severe (I remember it prompted me to reduce the hardware acceleration to none and to reduce the colour), but now, I simply CAN'T return my moniter's colour display back to 32-bit colour. It's not horrible pictures I'm getting now, but while some things look smooth at first, everything is actually very pixelly and it makes it irritating to use programs like emulators or photoshop. Can anyone take me through the steps of returning my computer's performance back to its natural, best setting? I've got my hardware accelleration returned to full, where it was before, and attempting to select high colour simply does nothing. It tells me it's done so, but no difference is made, and usually, if I return to that panel, my colour returns to medium. It's very annoying. :( The issue is the colour of the computer itself now, so you know. Not the hypercam abilities, or desktop recording issues.
Starting your own business at 16? I am only sixteen and I have had an obsession with computers. I've studied on hardware, reviews, overclocking(have overclocked my e6750 to 3.2 in sync with my ddr2 800 ram), and have even subscribed to maximum pc magazine. My dream is to start a business building custom pcs. It's very hard to learn all the things I do on my own: wed designing, graphic designing(i have photoshop cs3 extended), animation, game design, japanese, guitar, piano, etc. School wastes my time w/ things like history(i don't care for history and government) and english(it's easy anyway). I end up spending the rest of my days either on my pc, continuously studying computers or working(burger king)guitar). Can a 16 year start his own small business in custom pc's. I don't have any grasp on gov't, politics, and law. I don't know how I'd even start out. Web design has been a problem to learn w/o a class to take. All I'm really trying to say is... Any tips on how to start a business, and to learn web designing? that was not my point. i plan to go to a 4 year college specifically to learn this stuff(among other things i will have to). i have planned all the colleges that offer what i want in this state. I only need to take one or 2 more regents tests to give my regents diploma. i only have one life I'm not going to wait. I need to keep learning everything I must early on. this was useless.... as I've said. I am staying in school, I am going to college, and I am saving money.

"STOP 0x000000ED UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME" Error Message When You Restart Your Computer or Upgrade to Windows XP View products that this article applies to. Article ID : 297185 Last Review : May 7, 2007 Revision : 1.6 This article was previously published under Q297185 On This Page SYMPTOMS CAUSE RESOLUTION UDMA Controller Damaged File System STATUS MORE INFORMATION SYMPTOMS When you first restart your computer during the upgrade to Windows XP or when you start Windows XP, you may receive the following error message, where aaaaaaaa, bbbbbbbb, cccccccc, and dddddddd are hexadecimal numbers that may vary: STOP 0x000000ED (0xaaaaaaaa,0xbbbbbbbb,0xcccccccc,0xdddddddd) UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME NOTE: If you receive this error message when you restart the computer for the first time during an upgrade to Windows XP, your original operating system still works correctly. In some cases, a message appears on the BIOS report screen that states that the wrong cable is in use, but you may not see this message on computers that have a fast startup time. Back to the top CAUSE This behavior can occur if either of the following conditions is true: • Your computer uses an Ultra Direct Memory Access (UDMA) hard disk controller, and the following conditions are true: • You use a standard 40-wire connector cable to connect the UDMA drive to the controller instead of the required 80-wire, 40-pin cable. • The basic input/output system (BIOS) settings are configured to force the faster UDMA modes. • The file system is damaged and cannot be mounted. Back to the top RESOLUTION To resolve this behavior, use the appropriate method. Back to the top UDMA Controller If your computer uses a UDMA hard disk controller, use the following procedures: • Replace the 40-wire cable with an 80-wire UDMA cable. • In the BIOS settings for your computer, load the 'Fail-Safe' default settings, and then reactivate the most frequently used options such as USB Support. Back to the top Damaged File System If the second parameter (0xbbbbbbbb) of the Stop error is 0xC0000032, then the file system is damaged. If this is the case, restart the computer to the Recovery Console, and then use the chkdsk /r command to repair the volume. After you repair the volume, check your hardware to isolate the cause of the file system damage. To do this, use the following steps: 1. Start your computer with the Windows startup disks, or with the Windows CD-ROM if your computer can start from the CD-ROM drive. 2. When the Welcome to Setup screen appears, press R to select the repair option. 3. If you have a dual-boot or multiple-boot computer, select the Windows installation that you want to access from the Recovery Console. 4. Type the administrator password when you are prompted to do so. NOTE: If no administrator password exists, press ENTER. 5. At the command prompt, on the drive where Windows is installed, type chkdsk /r, and then press ENTER. 6. At the command prompt, type exit, and then press ENTER to restart your computer. For additional information about how to use the Recovery Console in Windows XP, click the article number below to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base: 314058 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314058/EN-US/) Description of the Windows XP Recovery Console If this procedure does not work, repeat it and use the fixboot command in step 5 instead of the chkdsk /r command. Back to the top STATUS This behavior is by design. Back to the top MORE INFORMATION The purpose of this behavior is to prevent potential data loss due to the use of an incorrect IDE cable for the faster UDMA modes or due to continued access to a drive on which the file system is damaged. Note that a variety of issues can cause file system damage, from faulty hardware to software configuration problems or viruses. You can run Chkdsk /r at a command prompt to resolve the file system damage, but you may lose some data. Back to the top
Can't overclock my computer!! Help!? I am trying to overclock my CPU but it always fails and resets the defaults. I have a Pentium D Dual Core 805 Processor which is a budget CPU that can attain 4.1GHZ and run fine. From the factory its a 2.66 on each core, so I want to up that, doesn't have to be maxed out, but I want something like 3.2ghz on each core. Here's a link to Tom's Hardware where they overclocked this exact processor and had it running at 4.1GHZ with no problems. http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/dual-41-ghz-cores,1253.html Here are my specs on my computer: -Windows Vista Ultimate Fully updated Currently running 32 bit -500GB Seagate SATAII 3.0gb/s hard drive -ATI Radeon X1900GT Graphics Card -ASUS P5K-VM Motherboard -2x2GB (4GB Total) DDR2-6400 at factory clock -500W Power Supply -Thermaltake 4.7" CPU Cooling fan with copper heatsink and copper heat pipes I have tried overclocking but cannot find the right combination for the FSB, memory clocks, and memory speed. I tried changing voltage on the CPU, changing memory clocks, and also changing memory speeds. For the memory speeds my only options are 664 or 800, and the lowest amount for the FSB is 200-800mhz. Any ideas on what I can do to overclock some and get a little more out of my CPU? Thanks. Well I want to overclock for performance in gaming. Going from 2.66 GHZ to even 3.0GHZ will make a decent difference. My computer will be sitting in mineral oil soon, so heat will not be an issue. As for damaging the CPU, this one is pretty cheap, like a little more than $100 on most sites, so that's not a big deal either. But I want more performance in gaming, and this is also a project, just testing out my system. I'm pretty sure its an overclockable mobo. It lets me change the values, clocks, and FSB, it just fails overclocking when I do it. I have tried a few combinations but gave up after a numerous unsuccesful attempts
Hooking up Xbox 360 to Computer Monitor? If I don't get sound can I buy a converter of some sort to hook it up to the speakers I have or do I have to buy new ones? If I do only need a converter, could someone tell me/link me to a good one that will work for a decent price.
What is the real reason for motherboard or hardware crashes? Hi! I just bought a new HP Pavilion dv2000 special edition last week 06/04/08. Looks stunning, yes. but as i write this 06/10/08 i have already reinstalled my windows vista because of a certain virus or something. Then my research began. i visited some of my well trusted computer repair shops and told them i had a new HP. They told me they had dealt with more than 20 HP's due to motherboard failures. Then i tried visiting notebookreviews.com. A great site for notebook/laptop reviews and forums. On the HP Pavilion category, i found similar problems. Now here's what i'm trying to figure out. I just can't get it that a multibillion dollar company such as HP would try to destroy their business creating trashed up laptops and waste their business. motherboard failures? hardware crashes? is it maybe due to the user and how he/she treats his/her laptop? is it because of the YET unstable Windows vista? or the stupid anti-virus softwares that comes with it? please help! Thanks!!
I think my computer is starting to die... Any help? OS: Ubuntu Linux 8.04 Laptop (I bought it the summer of 2005): http://reviews.cnet.com/laptops/toshiba-satellite-m55-s325/4507-3121_7-31439169.html?tag=mncol;rnav For awhile now (a few months?), my computer seemed to be having a tough time multitasking. For instance, I'd be running Deluge, Firefox, and VLC and the VLC video would start skipping while Firefox was loading a page. I figured I just needed to reboot to clear caches or something (I don't reboot often, since I let Deluge go overnight), and most of the time that would work. Well, today I reboot, and all that loads is my wallpaper. It doesn't detect my Wacom tablet (which I use as a mouse), and when I try and move the mouse via touchpad, it has to think about it for a long time, like it's got some other (huge!) program running in the background. I've tried rebooting a few times, always with the same result. Once, it did load the top menu, but the mouse still wouldn't work properly, so I really couldn't do much. I'm running off the Live CD right now, and that's working great. (Slow, but you know.) It's seems to be picking up my internal and external hard drives just fine, which good. I'd like to know what I could do to help diagnose/fix the problem(s) with my laptop. Is it an OS problem (time for a reinstall), or is it something to do with my hardware? Thanks very much in advance!

Which of the listed topics do you think would be the best theme for a high-traffic blog? I know a little bit about a lot of things but I know a good bit about few things and I'd like to start a blog that could potentially bring in a high number of visitors and subscribers. I'd make the blog about one of the following: 1. News about new computer technologies (hardware and software) 2. Information on new and interesting technologies currently on the market or soon to be released. 3. Video / computer game release information. 4. Video / computer game and movie reviews. I have a very unique style about my speech when I really get involved in talking about something, and I'm certain I could bring at least a moderate level of entertainment to even the dullest of topics. If you have any other suggestions for something I may try, leave me an answer! Thank you in advance everyone!
DOA (dead on arrival) items? should i be worried? Buying computer hardware online: is there a high chance of getting a DOA (dead on arrival) item? For example, you buy an item and when it gets shipped to you, the item comes faulty or damaged. I looked at reviews @ newegg and tigerdirect, there are always several people who say "my item was DOA" for every product. Should i be concerned?
Updating graphic card and ram for a dell xps 170? http://reviews.cnet.com/laptops/dell-xps-m170/4507-3121_7-31520758.html?tag=mncol;psum That is my computer and I was wondering if it is possible to upgrade the hardware in the laptop. I am new to the whole computer hardware thing. I was wondering if http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148212 would be able to go into the laptop. The cnet review says that there is a max of 2 gigs of ram allowed in the computer so i did not know... Also I need to know a good graphic card for this computer, i really want to get a 1 gig. If you have any suggestionss about anything else feel free to tell me them. Thanks
Is this the right motherboard? I'm building my first computer... Very little computer hardware knowledge.. Never took computer engineering class. Anyways, I was going to buy this motherboard: http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4316659&Sku=P450-9124 It has positive reviews, and it isn't too expensive. I don't have to use it for gaming right? I just want a good motherboard... And I was thinking about getting this video card: http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4111742&Sku=E145-9504 I'm not a gamer, but I'm into computer graphics, and certain computer games. Am I paying too much or what? :S I really want a good computer as I'm constantly using one.
Which is the better netbook (ultra-portable notebook) between ACER & ASUS for under $400? I've narrowed my selection to 2 netbooks that won't break the bank: Acer Aspire One AOD150-1165 10.1-Inch Netbook (1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 Processor, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, XP Home, 6 Cell Battery) & ASUS Eee PC 1000HE 10-Inch Netbook (1.66 GHz Intel Atom N280 Processor, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, 10 GB E-Storage, Bluetooth, XP Home, 6 Cell Battery) Both have just been released recently, both sound like great netbooks and you can find them on Amazon.com for good prices. I'm not very computer hardware savvy and all these numbers and features sound great but I can't find a side-by-side comparison for these models. I'm more interested in which one is going to be better in the long run. Both have a 1 year warranty and most reviews are from people who have only owned theirs for a couple days-month(s). I'm mostly going to be using the computer for college (i.e. homework, research, note taking, etc.).
I am wanting to upgrade my graphics card to 1GB, what are the best cards for 1gb? This is a repost: I have been looking around at certain video cards at the sie, but I do not know much about computer hardware. The one I was looking at is the XFX GeForce 7950 GX2 XXX Graphics Card ........ Anyone know a better card that I should use? Additional Details Some have suggested that the GeForce 8800GT AKIMBO 1GB is a good choice. .... the reviews i have read say that it is "bulky" wil that have an affect on the open slots i have, will it fit in any slot? I have a PCI-E slot. My current video card is the NVidia GeForce 8800 GTS 512mb ... i want to upgrade to 1GB
Need some insight on a new PSU? My power supply died this morning. Lovely way to start a morning huh? I've bought most computer hardware before but actually have never bought a PSU. Most of the ones I've had have been given to me because people didn't need them anymore. So, I'm trying to pick one out. Comp specs are as follows: - AMD Athlon X2 4400+ Brisbane (think it's 2.1 or 2.2ghz) - Nvidia GeForce 8800GTS - Asus motherboard (could not tell you the model as it was a hand me down unfortunately), it may be similar to a M3A76-CM but I only have 800mhz as front side bus speed - 500GB 7200rpm Seagate hdd Those are the main parts. As you can see, I don't run a heavy system so I had a 500w that suited me fine. I'm now going for a 700w SLI ready for future upgrades. I saw this on NewEgg: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817341019 Is this a good PSU? It's got good reviews and is a decent price. Do you have other suggestions if this one is not what I need? Thanks in advance. Thanks aviatingamateur... I didn't really think about that actually. As for the mobo, that model listed is not my exact model and mine is not micro ATX. I just didn't see anything else with the same amount of slots for everything and the set up. My current mobo doesn't even support SLI but seeing as its the oldest thing in my comp, I'll be upgrading soon anyway.
thoughts on this video card / 3 part question .....? just received this as a hand me down : Sapphire ATI Radeon X800 XL, found these articles : http://www.neoseeker.com/Articles/Hardware/Reviews/sapphirex800xl/ http://www.testfreaks.com/graphics-cards/sapphire-ati-radeontm-x800-xl/ im not into gaming, just want something that will allow for great results if i watch a movie or hook it up to my tv..... i think its about - 4 yrs old.. DOES THAT MEAN ITS NOT GOOD ANYMORE ?? MY COMPUTER IS ABOUT JUST OVER A YEAR OLD, IS IT STILL GOOD FOR ME ?? any way to find out what it might be worth ??

Is this computer Capable of playing High End Games? Ok, I was trying to create my own PC for gaming and was trying www.cyberpowerpc.com (I read reviews and they appear very reliable.) I found a special and customized it myself. Check it out :D http://img440.imageshack.us/img440/149/mynewpcpg5.jpg Ok, maybe some good games to compare this too could be Call of Duty 4 or any other high end graphic game out there. I tried my best with my little knowledge I have on the hardware. Hopefully this will work out well, my birthday is coming up and I plan to buy myself something nice :D I'm pretty sure that image shows the main components that actually matter, so now I just need that person to give me the go :D Thanks, Kyle S.
What comes with an ipod (nano)? http://arstechnica.com/reviews/hardware/nano.ars I know what comes with an ipod, I got one last night.. In the picture AT THE >VERY BOTTOM< of the page it has headphones, the headphone cushions, -which mine didn't come with for some reason..- the thing that hooks up the the computer and some rectangle thing. core 2 duo vs turion processor? I sell computers at circuit city. I have a $20 bet with a co-worker that the intel centrino core 2 duo processor runs cooler and more energy effecient than AMD's mobile turion processor. I've read tom's hardware review stating that the AMD may be the better out of the two. Which I still can't take as enough proof. But intel didn't really put there two sense in the review. They also didn't compare the top models of laptops that we have in the store, which is what I placed the bet on. I would like to compare Sony's VAIO VGNSZ670N/C vs a comparible Turion laptop. (being same price range, and specifications.) If anyone knows the answer to this please provide links to prove your claim, or some kind of proof.

Cannot connect wirelessly to the internet? Whenever I attempt to enable my wireless card on a network, I cannot seem to get an IP address on my Windows SP2 machine. Until that point, everything goes smoothly. I can properly enable the network card and view available wireless networks. After I try to connect, however, the computer will mostly continue searching for an IP address for hours on end. On rare occasions, it will be connect, but a popup saying, "Limited or no connectivity," appears, making the connection unusable. I have reviewed my hardware configuration through the Control Panel, updated the relevant drivers, and uninstalled the network before starting anew with a reboot. Yet I still cannot connect wirelessly. Note, I do not have similar issues when connecting through a LAN, but I always have to restart my machine before that connection is usable. Since it seems that my hardware is OK, the problem likely lies with Windows. But nothing I have tried seems to work. Thanks in advance for your help. Everyone's else computer in the house can connect wirelessly to the router. Also, the problem exists on other networks (school, Starbucks, hotels, etc.). It doesn't seem that the router is the problem.
I am trying to convince my parents to buy me a macbook pro i wrote this list well what do you think? 20 Reasons Why I Need a Macbook Pro 1.Macs are more reliable. In the past 8 months my computer has had to have the Os re-installed 4 times, 3 for hard drive problems and 1 for a virus. Mac’s are very reliable machines according to consumer reports, and multiple reviews online such as C-net, Notebook reviews, Consumer reports, ECT. Mark the Mac book pro as a very good Computer, better than a PC. 2.Macs Run windows to! On a Macbook Pro I Can Run Windows as well as Mac OS X through Boot Camp. So in way I will get the best of both worlds I can run Mac OS X for internet and video editing and music editing, then I can run Windows Vista for Games, Office, and Windows Exclusive programs I might need. 3.I Know How to Use Macs. I can use a Mac much better than a PC. I was taught how to use them in elementary school. Right down to how to use all of the Mac office programs. 4.No Viruses! On Macs there are no viruses, which means that I can /surf the web with confidence my computer is safe. 5.If my Mac breaks no problem! With Apple care I can call Apple and my problem is fixed either by an apple expert helping me through it our by sending my computer to apple. Were as with a PC if it breaks Basically your screwed, first you have to find the problem, then call support then figure out how to fix it, then try do to do all of the things that you have no clue on how to do. No no no no with a Mac I call apple and since Macs are so simple with a description of my problem I have an answer. 6.A Mac Will Help Me in School. Last year I had 12 late or missing essays and research assignments because my computer was broken. On a Mac if it breaks I just send it to apple and in a few days I get a new computer for free. But it takes weeks to fix a PC. 7.They Last Forever!!!!!! On a Mac the Requirements to run software are very slim, the average life of a Mac is about 5 years compared to the 2 year life of a PC. 8.I can Use a Mac for Everything!!! Since Macs run Windows and Mac OS X there is no such thing as incompatible software. 9.You May Say at This Point “I am Convinced you need a Mac, But why a Macbook pro?” Well a Macbook pro is a notebook, which means I can use it anywhere. For example what if I have a huge report I have to do over the weekend but we are going to grandmas house, well I could take my Macbook pro and I could work on a report, and study for a test with a preloaded study guide. 10.I will get A’s on my report Card. With a Mac there are no viruses and they are notably reliable so there is no excuse of my computer had a virus, or the “it was broken” excuse. A Macbook pro will help me excel in school and in extra activities I do such as movie making and video games and there is guitar learning software. 11.Since I will be using the computer I should get the computer I want to use. What you guys have to remember is that the next computer I’m going to get will be my computer, so in that case I should get the computer that I want to use, not the one that you want me to use. 12.If I get the Macbook pro I will have enough space on my desk to do other things. Such as homework, or work. Right now my desk is too crowded with CRT monitors to do work; well a laptop would take care of that. 13.There is a brand new update. An update came out on June 5th which means that I will get the most advanced technology now. 14.A Macbook pro is the most powerful notebook and most powerful Mac other than the Mac pro. 15.I have two lives. If I came home from school one day and I found my computer broken my dell, I would have to wait for dad to fix it. But with a Mac I can run Windows and OS X so if OS X dies I can use windows because it uses a separate portion of the hard drive, and vise versa. 16.Apple is the only company that makes the software and the hardware. On a Mac the software is made to use all of the advantages of the hardware. Were as on a PC the software is made to be used on 100 companies computers 17.All the programs I use and want to use are on Mac. I use iTunes and that’s a program designed for Mac. I cant use iMovie, or Logic. 18.A new OS is about to be released. Leopard is about to be released, with many more features than tiger. 19.I can use .mac. .mac is a net based e-mail and web page publisher and internet storage. With many other features. 20.Macs just work. Macs are so simple a caveman can use them, they work so well, and they are so easy to use that you can use it to learn languages, or to learn how to play an instrument. They just work, were as with a PC needs to have lessons to learn how to use it. With a Macbook pro I can just do everything and have everything work. Reasons 1-20 are the reasons I need a Macbook pro. oh yeah and btw im not asking people about the classic mac or windows im asking if my list is good, dont answer if your gonna say something such as "buy a pc instead"

Windows Vista ran fine but any more? All help is welcomed. Thanks in advance. So i recently built a computer with vista ultimate 64bit regardless of the bad reviews i had read, i just thought you would need good hardware to handle vista thus i built my computer with the following : - abit in9 32x max motherboard - 150gb raptor drive (10k rpm) - intel quad core 2.4ghz - 3gb corsair ram - 8800gts 640mb its a nice computer, the first 2 weeks it ran fine and i had downloaded like 2 games, few songs and not much. About a week ago I installed call of duty 4 and then my computer went down the drain. Now it takes 2 years to boot, lags to open up a picture, lags to open up IE, lags on starting up anything. So I completely removed COD4 and nothing. I did a system restore to the first week i had the pc and nothing. I have no idea what to do any more :( i doubt i have a virus or something dubm like that. Any smart answers <3333
