What can I expect from Gateway tech support after purchase of new computer? Heard bad reports.? I'm thinking of buying a new Gateway desktop computer but have gotten bad reports on tech support after the sale. Anyone with any advice?

Customer service support for Gateway computers? Please read my question, “What has happened to Gateway products and support? I noticed others were unhappy with Gateway support and products. Any others? You would think for the price you pay the service would be better. I can’t deal with being on the telephone or on –line for hours just to reach customer service or technical support. I can’t deal with people I can not even understand. I don’t want a Tech who tells me to mail in my laptop or desktop as a means of resolving technical issues. I can’t let go of my computer for several weeks because Gateway stopped using a local contractor for minor repairs and service.
Does anyone know how to reach Gateway support without a laptop serial number? Bought a Gateway laptop about 13 months ago via Best Buy. There is not a Gateway serial number ANYWHERE on the unit. Laptop got a virus and I need to order the system recovery disk from Gateway but cannot access Customer Support/Tech Support/phone customer support without a serial number. Contacted Best Buy and requested they send copy of original receipt as it may contain serial number, but that is going to take 2 weeks. Any thoughts? Really people? Do we have to be so accusatory when I am looking for help? It's not my computer - it was a gift. There are 2 blank stickers on the back which appear to have been where the SN# should have been. It's not there. So, if anyone has anything informative to contribute - I would appreciate it. Da Guy - Thank you for that information. I will file it away for future use. Unfortunately, the Gateway only boots to a black screen...which is why I need recovery disks from Gateway.
(does not support VGA CARD) upgraded and installed a video card to my gateway...? I have a gateway 831GM desktop (bought it in 2005) So i decided to upgrade the video card with a GeForce 7200 GS (Nvidia product) I placed it in the PCI express x16 slot, secured and fastened. So when i went to turn it on I placed the CD in, and i get a message saying "Sorry but we do not support your VGA card" I dont know what to do? should i call gateway support? or Nvida?? Or is there another alternative? Thanks!
I have a gateway laptop that is fully connected to the internet, but none of the browsers will load any pages.? I have tried several different browsers (ie, firefox) and none of them were able to load any pages. !! GATEWAY TECH SUPPORT WON'T HELP ME!, I need the sound driver for a Gateway Laptop P-6822 for XP. Sigmatel I tried Intel's, Gateway's, everybody's drivers, none of them will install on my P-6822. I it is not a very common model at this point, but I am really dissapointed about Gateway's Tech Support, first they treated me like a thief because the serial number on my NEW laptop didn't show up on their database, and second, because the Laptop came up with that slow Windows Vista OS, which does'nt run smooth like XP not even in my 1.5ghz Core2Duo 2Gb Ram laptop...it takes like 5 minutoes just to load the startup screen!!! So finally I decided to get back everything to XP, and the computer run amazing!!, but I am unable to get the sound driver specifically to work, I've got everything else from manufacturer's site directly, but Sigmatel, IDT nor Gateway will give me tech support for this new chipset under XP!!! DOWN OLIGOPOLY!
Driver support? gateway computer dowgrading to xp? okay so jus recently i bought another HDD. i wanted to dual boot xp on my old drive. but when i installed it there was question marks in the device manager concerning my Ethernet controller, pci device (2), SMBUS controller and video controller. My motherboard came with a gateway computer and i believe the drivers are on the windows vista cd that came with it. i also visited the gateway website looking for drivers for my motherboard, but it only supports vista. Can my Gateway GT5034 support an external SATA hard drive? They say USB & Firewire external drives are a little s-l-o-w because of their connection to the computer. Anyone ever used Gateway fee based support? I opened up a chat support session on gateway because my laptop screen is flickering (almost like it is not reading the ac adapter). The charge light comes off and on and the screen turns dim and bright as if I am plugging and unplugging it over and over. On top of that, the touch mouse pad seems to be haywire. The tech person only wanted me to use the fee based support. Is it worth it? Will they charge an outrageous amount and take longer to fix it since they charge by the amount of time? Anyone ever had a positive/negative experience?
Gateway 552GE Support? I own a Gateway 552GE desktop computer but am not sure what the limit i can add for sdram is. I want to bring it from 512MB to 4gb but i was told that it would only use 2.5gb if i did that instead of all 4. Ive been trying to restore my Gateway M-6750 to its factory settings however the directions given dont work.? My Gateway keeps going to a gray screen? Anyone know the direct number for Gateway "Level 2" customer support? Hi! Does anyone who has dealt with Gateway know the direct number for their "level 2" customer support aka "service operations" or speaking to a "supervisor"? In order to access "Level 2" and wait for an hour for someone to pick up, I have to first contact "Level 1" at a 408 area code. It would be nice if I could bypass the "Level 1" and save some time in the process. I gave up on the phone tonight waiting for Level 2, and called back after 9pm Eastern time only to find that Gateway's Level 2 closes at 7pm Mountain time. Ugh!!! Also, maybe someone also knows a 1-800 number to save on long distance charges? Thanks.

How do I refresh the gateway to my Comcast internet? I have had Comcast high speed internet for about a year now, and it's always worked fine. But now my secondary computer doesn't seem to get the connection from my main computer with the wireless modem. I called the support crew (hehe), and they told me to refresh the gateway. Gateway 6021GZ Notebook Driver Problems? I recently reformatted my laptop and installed a different version of XP that I purchased separately. During the installation process I noticed that the alpha-keyboard was causing some problems. This particular Gateway notebook has a special keyboard function whereby you can substitute numbers for certain letters by using a Function (Fn) key. But now these numbers are replacing the alpha keys permanently; for example, the 'U' key is now displaying 4. The only way I can get letters to show is by using the 'Fn' key while typing. These effects should be opposite. I installed all the drivers from the Gateway Support website, and still the same thing. Does anyone have any idea how I can fix this?

My computer's device manager has yellow question marks by -ethernet controller -pci simple communications controller -sm bus controller -video controller how can i reinstall them? the recovery cd is letting me do it. I'm on a gateway labtop right now. Also is there any way I can download it on here and then burn it to the desktop so it can work. Gateway support isn't helping me. Should i just bring it to comp usa and pay $99 for them to fix it. PLEASE HELP!!!! when i delete it and then reboot it, it is saying i need to use the internet to install them again. BUT THERE IS NO INTERENT ON THE DESKTOP how do i know what ethernet controller I need to get? my computer model on gateway doesn't have any ethernet downloads listed
Gateway Profile 3 Memory Upgrade? one of my relatives has a Gateway Profile 3 computer that he is trying to put some additional memory in. http://support.gateway.com/support/manlib/Profile/Profile3/8508183/8508183.htm He got one 512MB PC133 SDRAM but it is only showing 256MB available. he can live without the other 256MB if there is a hardware limitation of only 256MB per slot. The main thing, though, is he gets a warning/error when he boots about the system memory running at 100MHz and the physical ram being 133MHz (I don't have the exact error text). The computer still boots and works ok, but this is a keyboard response that needs taken every time he boots. Does anyone know how we can remove this message, since from the specs and support at Gateway we should be able to use PC133 in the computer? Gateway support hasn't been much help. I think it is AMI Bios version 2.01a
Memory upgrade ? on gateway mx3225 laptop? Ok, my laptop running XP Pro is a little lean in the memory department with 256MB, checked the gateway support site, and it says my system can handle a max of 1GB, so I got a compatible 1GB memory stick, open it up, stick it in, and the system will not boot. I removed the 1GB and replaced the 256MB stick and system works fine. I even returned the 1GB and got another. Same deal. any ideas? The system only has one memory slot as per gateway.com and the manual
Gateway MA3 wirless drivers? I have been looking all day for my laptop's wireless drivers but still can't find anything..I went to the gateway support site but still can't locate the download...can any one help me find these drivers
Need to install Windows XP on a Gateway WinVista laptop. But the xp install disc can't find the hdrive. Help? The laptop is a Gateway MT6707. Ok, the reason for this is because most of my devices (midi controllers, and soundcards) doesn't have any available drivers for Vista. My last resort is to reformat and just to install win xp. The problem though, is that the hard disk is SATA, and booting up from the winxp installation disc can't seem to recognize it. I found a driver for the hard drive, but it seems to be designed only if you are in a WinXP WinVista shell. http://support.gateway.com/support/drivers/search.asp?ref=step&st=browse&platform=10022&model=11053&os=10406&type=10093 I've read a topic here in answers that I need to press F6 during the XP installation to point the installation program to a floppy that contains the drivers. The laptop doesn't have floppy drives. can someone help please? I really need to install xp. Thanks.
Need help for owners of old Gateway comps b/c Gateway sold out support of them to MPC and now MPC is bankrupt!? Anybody know where an owner of an old Gateway computer can turn for support and updating with drivers etc.? Seems MPC is no longer available. So sorry I forgot to add that I am speaking about the old PROFESSIONAL Gateway computers.

What should i get to make spore run exceptional on my gateway laptop? ? My Gateway runs at 1.60Ghz w/ 1.99 GB of RAM an want to run the game Spore at all high settings. How do I hook up my Gateway laptop to my HDTV? I have a Gateway laptop manufactured in 07, 3GB Ram, just really awesome laptop, i'm trying to figure out how to hook it up to my hdtv.....i have the cord that i beleive is the VGA cord.....and i hooked it up to the tv, tried to match the resolution on my laptop with the ones supported by the tv and nothing happened. any insight?
