I know Overclock.net exists, however, in your opinion, is there any other good one? Which one is your favorite / most liked?
Does the type of RAM my computer is compatible with change what other hardware is compatible? SO, I'm going to ask you all for a good computer forum to join and be a part of that offers computer hardware, software, guidence, help, and etc. I'm picky with how the site looks, so hopefully the site's you all tell me, they will be clean and not trashy, LOL. Thanks!

Does anyone know a good forum about computer help and feedback? I'm looking for a forum where I can easily look up information about computers, from help in software issues, to help in hardware and performance.

The CPU Cooler that I won is sold for $50 retail so I would like to make at least $35 from it. I also want to sell it within the next 2 two weeks so I don't have time to sell it on a computer forum. Are there any legit sites that are focused on selling computer parts? It's an EVGA Superclock CPU Cooler.

What are some websites or forums you can go to if you have any computer related question? ...like...PC World or Cnet or something. Are there any knowledgeable forums or sites (where we can post questions and get real technical responses) that computer savvy people recommend? It can be about computer hardware or diagnosing, or software questions... Thanks!
If everybody in the world turned there computer off, would the internet cease to exist? Logically, the internet is a meeting of computer hardware and software thus if every computer in the world is switched off, the forum cannot exist as it has no physical entity.
Computer hardware Expert? Does anybody know where to find somebody good with computer hardware and computer-like (smartphones, PDAs, etc) hardware? I've tried the Linux forums only to realize that they specialize in operating systems. I'm trying to either build from the ground up or at least re-program a phone into a PDA (at least near to on par with a modern one, far beyond the capacity of the old green-and-black screen ones). A person would be better than a website but anything helps. I'm not looking for brief, technical support from a company so much as constant, inexpensive, even if it means sloppy, technical support from a person, even if this means a drop in quality or multiple visits to a reliable forum.
What is a good Computer news website? I am trying to stay a little better up to date with computer technology. Always tired of my friends talking about some recent new technology and not knowing what they are talking about. So I am looking for some websites or forums that other people use to keep up with computer tech. For now mainly looking for stuff on computer hardware although stuff on programming as well would be fine as well.

AMD - Computer Hardware Question? I plan on building a computer soon and I picked out an AMD processor (quad 3ghz), on some of the gaming forums that I use, people keep saying that AMD is crap such as "also, AMD? the hell is wrong with you" but nobody explains why. Whats wrong with AMD hardware compared to Intel? I know that AMD is cheaper but I don't think it would be that bad. o.O This is the processor that I picked out. http://www.directcanada.com/products/?sku=10360BD7705&vpn=HDZ940XCGIBOX&manfuacture=AMD http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XgOmMAasqto Is this the reason why?
What are good computer help forums/websites out there? I'm looking for a computer forum or something that I can ask anything about computers on. Hardware, software, security problems I can ask. Some site where there is a good amount of people so I can get responses when I ask a question. Yeah Y/A is ok I think but I don't get a lot of replies and like you said the accuracy is questionable. Here your question expires in 2 or 3 days so after that you can't follow-up or a week later if you still have a problem you can't add more detail. That's the problem with Y/A is that there is someone who has Y/A who knows the answer to your question but that person only has 2 days to find your question out of all these other questions to go thru. If that person who can answer your question isn't on here for a week then your screwed. As every minute goes by your question goes lower on the list. After a couple hours your question is 4 pages down and I don't think people go that far. Kinda got off subject here.
No Answer From The Computer Forums Two Hours Ago (?)? Tried the Coumpter-Hardware-Other Hardware forum(s) to no avail. Can anyone tell me if I can take out my floppy (A) drive, and replace it with a zip drive (using the same hook-up/connections that were attached to my floppy/A drive)? Also, can anyone tell me what the red & black cable ends are on the end of keyboard hook-up - in other words, this keyboard (Hewlett Packard), that was given to me, has a multi-function wire or cable - one obviously to connect to the back of my tower, the other has red and black (male) ends, like something that a video game or audio device would have. Can I hook-up and use the keyboard without the red&black being attached to anything? THX in advance - g :)
Good and Friendly online forum to help me build a computer? Does anyone know of a good and friendly online forum on which I could ask some questions so they could help me build a computer? Here is the history: I'm getting myself a new gaming computer, but I don't live alone, and the other people that live with me need to use a computer and they are not computer savvy, because of past experiences I don't want them touching my computer so I'm going to build them one with some spare parts that I have, a pretty good computer that only has the motherboard broken and I'm going to try to use the same processor, memory and everything that I can salvage. The problem is that I've been out of the game for too long, and by that I mean that I haven't touch or learned anything regarding hardware in a long time (last time I was messing around with 486s and pentium IIs) So I need help finding out what king of motherboard I need to buy and if the components I have will work with it and stuff like that. I know how and I can build it, but I just need someone to do the thinking and I'll do the trained monkey stuff :D sooooooooo ... Do you know any good and friendly online forum with some hardware gurus that could lend me a hand? Thanks for answering... The link you gave me gives information on how to assemble and work on a computer, That I know how to do it, but I need help figuring out what is the name of my motherboard and which motherboard I should buy to replace it to make sure that my processor and memory will work on the new motherboard. And the forum looks like nobody uses it :(
Computer hardware: What do you think of MDG products? I discovered a flyer from MDG. I've never head of this company before. Their website: mdg.ca/save http://www.mdg.ca/Finance/Default.aspx?PID=openandsave The people on the following forum hate MDG products. http://www.redflagdeals.com/forums/checking-up-mdg-ca-87445/ I would like to know what you think of MDG? Have you bought any of MDG product and hated it, or do you know if anyone you know personally hates MDG?
Would you help me to escape from my computer addiction please? My situation I really need your suggestions, info, links, et cetera to get me break away from this computer addiction please. I have been living with computer since its advent, and I have been too long in this bit and byte world. I have almost no problem with my family and/or social matters (maybe), but certainly, I have problems with myself. I realize that my addiction to computer and internet has seized big values of my life. Please do not assume that I am addicted to the gaming, gambling, chatting, or sexual leisure online. I think I have really got the most of the computing and internet, I got answers for my quests in life: history, languages, hobbies, health, skill improvement, and other eye-openers, but I realized that at the end I just barely do not recognize myself. I knew that before the PC arrival, I was a simple human with a romantic and artistic mind inside, and then later I evolved to such a robot, to be precise: a slave of the technology. The internet had made me more tied to the PC, at first it delivered me the news of the world, marvelous things found there within the clicks and so on, but then made me deep drown into the pond of information. The cost and the lost Having knowledge to computer hardware made me always upgrade my gears. It made me spend big cost just to fulfill my lust over those times. My room is full with the old gears, gadgets, and things from online stores. My PCs and notebooks are full with MP3s, PDFs, and many things downloaded both free and paid. I also spent for many external/ portable harddisks for backing up and traveling. I do not mean to showoff, I just tell you how worse it was from time to time during about 20 years. I sometimes think about the lost time for repairing my gears, updating my softwares, browsing; and how many books that I have not read completely. There was a break One time, in two straight months last year, I spent my times with my son playing Tamiya, small racing cars in small tracks. It was wonderful that it made me totally forgot my computers. We have had most of the time together for racing, modifying, winding the wires for the tiny motors, etc. My wife was so amazed that the toys have made me away from the PC. It ended because of the coming rainy season that made us packed and boxed back the tracks and cars, and I simply switched back to the old routine. In search of healing I remember a precious phrase: Two kinds of those who lost; they are who looks for wealth and for knowledge. This phrase sometimes wakes me up but bad habit is addicting and I found myself always returned into that path. I think it is just similar to drug addiction. As the internet is an endless resource, I search through it for the cure, and I have found some articles about it and tried to implement them, but it always hard for me to liberate myself from my habit. I really hope that finally I find it in this forum, especially from you. Your helps, Please I know that some of you are familiar to manage some types of dependence, or maybe you have healed from the same situation. Whether you have some psychological, spiritual expertise, certain medication, or exercises, please share your advice, I need it badly. I do not want to clog the rest of my life in that digital world. There must be somebody else also in pain from the same thing, your kind suggestion will be very valuable and it will save some life. Thank you very much for sparing your time reading this lengthy note. God bless you. PS: I post this in Computing & Internet, Health, and Social Science with time interval, hoping to net more inputs. Please do not waste your time to put any unpleasant or unnecessary words, consider it will not only read by me but also by the other fellow readers. If you are not in the same situation with me, you perhaps still have the advantage of knowing the answers. Thank you, again.
Computer Hardware Issue? Quick version: My brother wanted me to install Ubuntu on his 6-7 year old custom-built computer. I grabbed the 32-bit version, not realizing he has an AMD-64bit processor. Skip ahead, install freezes every time, skip ahead mouse disabled in XP, re-enabled in BIOS, now it freezes during memory test on on BIOS start up. I tried the remove and put RAM chips back in suggestion I've seen on a few forums for similar problems. I've taken every card out and put it back in place. I took the battery out for an hour to restart the CMOS, that killed the screen for a bit, got the screen back up and running, but now it still freezes on the memory test. What can I do that I haven't already done, besides replace the motherboard? Don't know the exact specs, here's the best of my ability to remember things: 6-7 year old custom built computer Windows XP Home Edition NeVidia GeForce 5300 AMD 64-Bit Processor

popular online computer building community? like a forum or something. just a place where i can ask questions and talk about computer hardware with normal people that know about computers.
Hey what are good message boards for custom computer builders? I haven't actually built a computer (yet) but would love to see other people's set ups and see them talk about it and stuff, so that I would be more educated about that sort of stuff and oogle at the hardware. What forums has this? I know about Tom's Hardware Guide forumz but they suck! It is hardly active.
What is the best english forum on the internet? A forum that talks about every thing like software , hardware , computer news , movies ....etc.
Website/Forum where I can learn about computers? Title pretty much says it all. Just looking for a intermediate website that teaches you most about computers, specifically hardware. Thanks
Is this a correct statement (english grammar)? "No, you didn't posted anything technical, just the entire hardware I recommended to you." I'm talking about a forum post (computer hardware).
Computer Repair Software Issues / Hardware Issues 101? Computer Repair 101??? I am looking to make some extra cash on the side fixing computer issues both desktop and laptop. I just need to know if there is software out there that would help me in diagnosing and fixing the problem. I have many DVD's and a 16GB USB drive. How to remove malware. How to cleanup all junk from Computer? I see lots of people with their own product key on there computers. The problem is that they tell me that there was no disc. Is there a way for example if they were running windows vista home premium or windows 7 home premium that I could use a Universal disc that holds OS and all versions 32/64 bit I would insert the disc and install there OS and then when it asks me to enter to the product key i could just enter it as I see it on there computer. Please help! I read alot on forums and try to gain some extra knowledge everyday. I purchased a disc from Ebay and it was a bootable live cd and it held many software programs but wasn't at all happy because realized all of them were open source. If it would have been real paid software then fine. Anyways give me all your opinions. What are some of the most common issues with computers and what are the quick fixes? As well as rarest issues and their fixes. I thought of finding a good disc that could analyze whole computer find the issues and fix them without crashing it because it removed a necessary file. Thanks!!!!!!!!!!! I already have that and thought u could give me a step by step maintenance on the computer from diagnose clean repair etc...
POWERCUT CAUSED MY COMPUTER NOT TO WORK .. RECENT SOFTWARE OR HARDWARE CHANGE? Hi, we had a powercut yesterday and since then my computer will not start up. The fan comes on then goes off sometimes quick then sometimes longer and gets me to the menu .. "We apologize for the iconvenience, but Windows did not start successfully. A recent hardware or software change might have caused this. If your computer stopped responding, restarted unexpectedly, or was automatically shut down to protect your files and folders, choose 'Last Know Good Confuguraltion' to revert to the most recent setings that worked. If a previous startup attemp was interrupted due to a power failure or because the power or reset button was pressed, or if you aren't sure what caused the problem, choose 'Start Windows Normally'. 1.Safe Mode 2.Safe Mode wth Networking 3.Safe Mode with Command Prompt 4.Last Know Configuration (your most recent settings that worked) 5.Start Windows Normally" i have tried most of them. i have clicked start windows and it starts to load windows but then the computer goes off and then do it all again. i have read through forums saying about the motherboard or PSU may need changing? Just wanted to see if anyone had a solution? Many thanks Thanks for the quick replies, i was afraid of having to do that. Would putting the vista disk in and doing repair still solve the problem? just so i can keep my files etc.
Disconnecting a hardware device...will it fry the computer? I have a recording unit made by Zoom...and it connects to my computer via a USB interface. Have used it before without issues. It has a strict protocol for shut down: click on a 'Safely Remove Hardware" icon, and then click on a stop button to disengage the USB mass storage device. The manual states that if one does not follow the protocol, the computer may become unstable...and files on both units may be damage...or just burst into flames probably..anyway. for some reason I am getting a message that says "The device cannot be stopped because a program is accessing it"...this has been...several hours. So, I closed down a couple of anti virus programs...and disconnected the internet..did troubleshooters...all devices working properly...trying to figure out what might be accessing what. Probably nothing. Anyway, not supposed to yank out the USB connection...but any suggestions would be greatly appreciated...I am looking at forums...I have XP...is there a gentle alternative? Hey...some good advice...I tried shutting off the indexing...and explorer.exe...and, well actually just one anti virus program...anyway...no dice with those possibilities...anything else I should look at through Task Manager? You all are great to give me some hope... PayPal activity lists all the transfers I did this week after selling some computer hardware on OCN forums as complete, and all but the last one show up in my bank account. Since this last one was done like 12 hours after the one before it, even though it says complete, will it show up on Monday?

Anyone upgrade from Vista to 7? I need to ask people that actually did this. How long it takes to upgrade? Some told me its normal to take from 9 to 22 hours! I visited some computer forums and it seems like its true regardless your computers hardware.
My sound crackles then computer freezes up? I'll be using my pc just fine. Lately there will be a sudden crackling sound. It happens to a rythm almost when the sound from whatever is running hits a high enough level. Then sometime later my computer freezes up completely. I've read other forums and replies to people who discribe problems like mine but the ones closest don't seem to get a real answer. I just want to know if it's something software or something hardware/
Problem devices in my Tiny computer! I don't even know what question to ask!I know nothing about computers. I'm just about to give up, I have spent all week in computer forums. My brother gave me his old computer and I used it to play my Sims 2 game on. I am living overseas and frequent power cuts killed the computer. I used the reload/backup CD from Tiny and reinstalled the Sims 2, but got an error message saying there was no Direct X 9.0c compatible software. I looked into the Device manager and have yellow question marks next to USB, Video Controller and Video Cont. (VGA compat.) For Video Controller (VGA) it says Drivers are not installed (CODE 28). I have a drivers CD with the computer with several NVDIA drivers on and have tried installing them, but it still says there are no drivers and I have no idea what video Card this computer has! It must have all the hardware and softeware it needs soemwhere because it worked before. If you have THE SOLUTION please help me. Tiny went into liquidation and I don't need to be told to call a technician. That computer is not on the internet. MC, it's around 7 years old, I think. How do I find out the model. It just says Tiny Computers, AMD Athlon (tm) processor, 1.33GHz, 1.00GB RAM. I know it's ancient, but I only need to play this damn game on.

Does your computer (NOT your connection) leave a "fingerprint"? Say you post something on a forum, or send email etc from a stranger's internet connection BUT using your laptop. Does your laptop leave any kind of "fingerprint"? I don't mean the IP address of your connection. I mean your piece of hardware.

CD Drive Not being Recognized by Computer? Hi, I just bought a second hand computer for my son. It is a DELL Optiplex GX150 1.0 GHz and runs well. The CD drive, however, is not recognized. It does not light up, open and is not listed in the hardware. I know it worked recently because the person who sold it to me gave me the discs with Windows Xp, which he had just installed. Normally I will go to the forums but since this is an older, workhorse computer, the forums are zillions of posts long. I gave up after about 20 pages. It has a floppy drive which works well and I have some old Iomega drives kicking about somewhere, but I would like to know if there is anything I can do before shelling out any more money.
My computer wont beep or display.? I've just finishedbuilding a custom PC with a server board, and two cpus. I get no POST beep. I can turn it on, lights and fans go on, I can hear the HD and disk drives running. I don't have an onboard video card, but I tried two different PCI cards, nither of them worked. I've tried re-seating everything under the sun. I've tried using 4 different HDs, I've tried using two different disk drives... When all 5 RAM sticks are inserted I get a beep code like this; 1,3,3,1 Any other combo of RAM gives me NO beeps. With NO RAM it beeped; 3,4,3. I fear it might be the motherboard, but I was getting poers from the USB card to power my fan controler (because my fans were working) and the video card fan was running. I think what makes the most sence is a bad cpu, but even if one was bad, wouldn't the second take over? The odds of two bad cpus are slim to none. Also the computer hasn't ever displayed. I've read forums of computers that have once displayed, and then had hardware problems and had similar situations to mine. In one case it was the CPU, in another it was the Motherboard. Thank you for all your help.
How to fix display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered? How do i fix display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered? Build PC Help??????????????????????????? Hi sorry, this is my first thread and i want to build my own custom pc. However, i have never build a pc before and only know the basics. On top of that i am on a tight budget, $400-600 AUD and this makes things hard. I intend to game on it (Cod, L4D, Mabye even Crysis if it works). I know that its a lot to ask on such a tight budget but i have spent hours googling and have come across these sites. http://www.hardware-revolution.com/budget-gaming-computer/ /forum-replies-archive.cfm/1271645.html http://www.maxishine.com.au/forums//viewtopic.php?f=15&t=9472 /forum-replies-archive.cfm/1371323.html http://forums.cnet.com/5208-7586_102-0.html?threadID=274309 Now i have read up on all of these but i don't know which ones the best one, where to buy the part e.t.c and was hoping you guys could help as i am really muddled up right now.
My computer shuts off by itself? My computer shuts off by itself, i dont know why, but i first thought that my ram was the problem. So i sent that in then just got it back yesterday and plugged it back in. My pc started working and probably 20 minutes or so after, it just shut off. I thought i had resolved the problem but i guess that i didnt. I dont know if its a hardware or a software problem. I was reading some forums and a few people had similar problems, some people say that it could be the processor but i dont know how to pinpoint what the problem is. i tried running it on safe mode but it still shuts off, juss not as soon as if it werent on safe mode. i believe that i noticed the problem when i downloaded a torrent. then it started giving me problems. i hope that if i reformat this everything will be normal. sometimes it shuts off like 4 seconds after i turn it on. alright, i just uninstalled the program which kinda started the problem. i uninstalled other spyware programs like limewire, and other bs stuff that i thought affected my pc. My cpu fan is runnin ryte now, its at 3200rpms and my cpu temp. is like 44C around 112F im not sure if thats bad or good. but if its bad please let me know i have to get some thermal compound lol.
What is the max RAM for my computer? I have an Emachines H5088 desktop computer with: -Intel Pentium 4 641 processor with HT capability; -Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950; -2GB RAM (made up of 2 X 1GB RAM sticks) I always had the impression that my Computer had a maximum RAM capacity of 4GB. However according to: http://forums.techguy.org/hardware/573759-all-i-want-some-ram.html the maximum RAM capacity is 2GB. I believe this to be false but I am unable to confirm it from the E-machines website or Google. However, I have two reasons to support my claim (at least in my mind). 1)The Processor according to this website http://www.ciao.co.uk/Intel_Pentium_4_641_3_2_GHz_processor__6568992#productdetail as well as my BIOS, is 64Bit capable. This implies that I could run a 64Bit OS. But there is little to no use for such a system unless you can get at least 4GB RAM. The Benefit of such a system is that it can recognize more than 3GB RAM unlike a 32Bit OS. So why add such an extravagant processor unless you can then upgrade (that’s where the real money is at... again personal opinion) 2)According to: http://parts.emachines.com/sys_lookup.asp if you go to select model, choose H5088 and then hit go, you get that for RAM you can get 512MB DDR2 (MAX. 2GB). I believe that this refers to one stick and not the whole system. Can someone please, please confirm this so that I can rest assured and upgrade my ram later to 4GB (I suppose in 2 to 3 years the norm for home computers will be a 64Bit OS). Even so my 2RAM are chewed up by my graphics card and Vista of course. Thank you in advance.

External Hard Drive not showing up in My Computer (Location0)? I just got a western digital external usb hard drive I am having some trouble getting it to show up on my computer. On my desktop I am running xp with sp2. When I connect it (and yes I have tried different usb's) it says it is installing, new hardware installed, restart computer. Once I restart i can not see my new HDD in my computer. I can see it through device manager but I cannot access it. The status says its working fine but when I go into properties most of the options and information are greyed out and unavaliable. I have searched forums near and far and have found a number of solutions, none which work for me. 1. The hard drive is not defective, when plugged into my laptop running vista it works like a charm 2. Yes it is compatible w/ XP 3. I cannot make changes to the letter which corrisponds with it, when I go into disk manager it appears as "Disk 0 -basic" says nothing about NTFS and doesn't allow me to change a thing. 4. I formated it using my laptop, no dice. Help! I can always see it on my "my computer" on my laptop both before and after I formated it. It showed up as F:/ (and no F:/ is not in use on my desktop) I also used tweakUI to make sure that all the different letters are checked off to work. I don't know if it makes a difference or not but my computer has no problem reading and recognizing usb flash drives. And lastly, as said by amy... how do I convert it to FAT32? (I don't see why it would have a problem reading it as NTFS since both C: and my internal hard drive (D:) are oth in NTFS format and have no problems. Also it did not come with any disks and according to the website its not supposed to, I tried uninstalling it and reinstalling the drivers and still no dice. *******This may be important: I just noticed when I uninstall the driver (i tried to do it again) it says uninstall complete, please restart. Last time after restarting I just plugged it back in, this time I decided to check the device manager driver list again and to my surprise the driver was still on the list. As a matter of fact when the computer finished rebooting, it said "new hardware found" in the little bubble on my task bar even though my hard drive is not even plugged in. I FIXED IT Ok this is going to sound so dumb. I have tried this with two different usb cords (one about 3 ft and one about 4ft and also with a usb extension with 3 ft usb once i got sick of climbing under the desk to unplug it 100 times. The 3ft usb worked fine with my laptop. The HDD came with a 1ft ubs cable (rather uncomfortable) but I decided to give it a shot. I unplugged every other USB from my desktop and plugged it in using the USB it came from... and there it was. No restart, No installing, nothing. Just showed up in about 2 seconds. Can the length of a cord matter? And how come it worked fine on my laptop. Jebbbus.
How do i fix my sound problem? Well, i have my speakers plugged in correctly but the sound wont work for any applications at any time. It basically stopped working over night. The speaker is on but the computer doesn't detect the hardware device. The volume control is gone, i tried going to the control panel > hardware devices> blah blah blah and there wasn't my sound driver there. I need some serious help with this. I tried using some other forums, websites, and the windows troubleshotoer i got nothing to work. help plz?
is there some sort of program that will check my hardware? I'm having problems with my computer, the explorer.exe constantly crashes, I manually open it through Task Manager (New Task...) but it just crashes within seconds. I'm online, and I can use Internet explorer, but IE7 doesn't let you navigate through your hard drive like IE6 did. I reformated my computer a couple of days ago because of this same problem but now it's come back. I've been reading forums and I've tried everything. it's not a virus or spyware, I'm thinking it might have to do somethin with the motherboard. my question is, is there some sort of program that finds out if there's errors within the computer? (note: I don't mean programs like reg editors or system mechanic, I mean for the hardware)
Why doesn't my computer spot these drives? I have 2 drives on my computer: Memorex 52MAX 325216AJ and a Toshiba DVD-ROM SD-R5112 My computer says it can no longer find the drives. Why is this? I got a code 41 and replugged the IDE cable. Now I am confused because it shows up but the device can't be found. Then I uninstalled the drivers thinking that would help, but now it gives me a Code 19 saying a hardware error. Is there anywhere I can find the hardware for these drives on the internet? I think everything is plugged in, but it still isn't working. Any suggestions or links to forums would also be appreciated. All right I misphrased the question. My computer spots the drives but I get the alert symbols anyways. These are not new drives. I have had them installed for a half year. They are plugged in and recognized by BIOS. Today all of a sudden they just won't read CD/DVDs and they don't show up in my computer.
computer help please? well i have got age of empires 3 and i want to play online but whenever i try to join a game i get a message popping up saying failure to join game i went on to ensemble studio forum and they said some checks i should do • Power Cycle your network hardware: Turn off your modem, router, and computer. Wait a few minutes then turn them back on one at a time in the listed order. Some routers need to be power cycled to except new versions of software such as Age of Empires 3. • Disable Anti Virus, Anti Spyware, and other security software while you play Age of Empires 3. • Upgrade your firmware on your router and your network card. • Verify your Firewall or internet security software is allowing AGE3 to pass through. • Disable your Firewall or internet security software temporarily while you test connecting to the game. • Toggle UPnP (If you have UPnP on, try turning it off and if you have UPnP off, try turning it on.) • Change your DMZ settings • Port forward UDP and TCP/IP ports 2300-2310 to your machine. If that range does not work try expanding it to cover ports 2300-2340, or try using the OverridePort command listed below. • Some routers have a Gaming Mode. Be sure to enable that option if your router supports this feature. • If your router has logging turned on make sure to clean off your logs or restart logging before playing Age of Empires 3 • Change your computers IP on your router. Example: if your computer sits at 192.168.0.100 change it to 192.168.0.200 Im not that good with ICT and i dont know how to do any of those. and could someone tell me which one is most likely to work. im running avg and i turn gameing mode on when playing on age of empires. my router is a BT home hub my my computer is conected with cable if that is any help?
I want to fix computer's for a living. Schooling required? I was a terrible student. Went through a lot of depression trying to decide what I want to do, and I've finally figured it out. I want to fix computers for a living. I want to replace the parts inside of it, put them together for people, all sorts of stuff. I'm really good with hardware, and decent with software. Problem is, I have no idea what kind of education this requires, if its going to take me a university, well that'ss just out of the question. I'm in Florida. I want a nice lil shop where I can fix them, sell used parts, etc. So what do I need for it? Another good question, Is there a forum or a site where people come with computer problems? That would be a great way to work on diagnosing problems.
Green AV is destroying my computer. Can someone help? Well I think my computer might be done for. Out of no where Green AV started popping up, and started to tell me I had viruses. You know doing the typical trojan thing, and trying to get me to buy it. So I went looking for help in a forum to get rid of it. So like everyone else I was told to download Malwarebytes. So I download Malwarebytes(or "MBAM") from the website that the a person from the forum told me to, and as soon as I sarted the first Malwarbytes scan my computer started to have some more problems. Now Green AV keeps sending me a message that says "Green AV has detected spyware program Win32.Monster.fx that is trying to attack your computer.Do you want Green AV to block the attack?" Now I've done some extremely fast research and I know Win32.Monster.fx is a fake threat but when I tell Green Av not to block the attack my computer actually goes to a black/blue screen with the follownig error message: "A Spyware application has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer If this is the first time you've seen this Stop Error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps: Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed. If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer for any Windows updates you might need. Begining dump of physical memory.... Pysical memory dump complete restarting computer." It's doing this over and over. I've ran a full Malwarebytes computer scan, rebooted my computer and still Green AV exists. I can't get rid of Green AV for some reason. And I have no disc drive so I can't restore my computer or back up any files. Does anyone know what's going on? Is my computer done for? Is there any way I'm going to get rid of Green AV? What should I do next? Keep in mind I have no disc drive so I can't use back up discs or any other discs of any kind if that is what is required.
Where can I find a laptop or a desktop computer with PC-BSD Operating System Preinstalled? Or at least is there a list of computers where it works "out of the box". I really would rather it be pre-installed. I am tired of reading of the hundreds of "laptop lists" and hardware lists that say "works 100%, only had to type bla bla bla into the Terminal or Konsole or whatever, install this and that, run this script, reboot, then type this from this forum and that from that forum, reboot, another script, more typing, and 72 hours later... works Perfectly :p" No no no, :p I need it to work with absolutely no typing in terminal, no additional "fixes" Where can I find a laptop and or Desktop where I just run PC-BSD exactly out of the box. No fixes, not even five letters in the terminal. Not one single letter..... or number.. or symbol :p Must have wireless internet, dialup (even if external usb or seial modem etc ok) flash drive usb, sound, all the basic necessities to just surf Internet, listen to music, email, office like documents, thats it, no games, programs. Just ac omputer that will work. Sorry for rant. So where to a find a PC-BSD Computer? P.S. I would have picked Mac were it not so expensive, and so many OS upgrades. I already have Linux (and so I had to do many fixes in the Terminal) and I have a Windows machine (even tho I dislike Windows)
My computer is constantly crashing and has been for months now: I need serious help please? For months now (many of them) my PC has been crashing after about only 2 or 3 minutes of web surfing. The whole operating system crashes often and if that doesn't happen, the screen will freeze, leaving nothing operable. I have asked this question on many forums but no one can help so please please can anyone here help? Im in dire need of PC assistance. i run windows xp home edition on an Intel Celeron system. I can only use the PC in safe mode as of the last year or so and the last few months of the year, my OS constantly crashes in Safe Mode too The last 3 months or so i have noticed this harbinger to a crash...the system will come up with a small error box on the screen saying Protection:45 and upon clicking OK, the PC 8 times out of 10 crashes (whole OS). I have always been of the impression that my modem (as hardware) is causing the issue) as when it is not connected, the PC doesn't crash. My connection line is fine but i think the modem itself might be the cause I am connecting to my PC via Ethernet so maybe the crashing is due to a connection the modem is trying to make with the PC but it ONLY ever crashes with such regularity when the modem is switched on. error messages in Error Viewer upon reboot state errors such as DCOM (in system error) and VSS and Eventsystem (in Application error) besides others. sometimes when rebooting it will even say corrupt file ntoskrnl.exe and it asks me to reboot all of windows. I then can restart my PC again and it won't state this but still crash soon into surfing the net. The BSOD is a feature i see quickly before the majority of OS crashes (it flashes on for a split second only). Please can you help me???? After a quick check upon boot up, my CPU Temp is 47 celcius/109 degrees System Temp is around 32 celcius normal or bad?

Computer randomly restarting. Memtest finds no errors.? I just bought a computer this week and I'm very happy with it aside from the fact that it keeps restarting at completely random times. Whether I'm letting the computer idle while I do something else, or browsing forums like these, or even when I'm playing Crysis. There is no rhyme or reason to explain how how often it restarts and I think that's the most frustrating part. I've tried running Memtest86 and letting it run for a total of over 40 hours and over 24 passes of my 4x 2GB Corsair XMS3 ddr3 and it has not found anything. I should also mention that during all the Memtest'ing the computer did not restart at all. It usually restarts once or twice ever 4 hours so going 40+ hours without any restarts is pretty interesting to me. I've tried uninstalling the drivers on my video card and reinstalling them but it restarted a few hours later. I'm really confused.. The manufacturer tells me I can send back any parts I want for an exchange but I really don't want to deal with the weeks it takes to work through the mail. I've played with this system under pretty heavy load before and it worked great which makes me think the hardware it's self is ok. Anybody got any ideas?
Problems with ubuntu/Linux hardware drivers? OK, I have a little problem with Ubuntu 8.04. I installed it as just a secondary OS with Vista. It ran great and found all the hardware drivers. I wanted to get rid of vista, so I reformatted my HD so I could just install ubuntu. It installed but it won't find all of the hardware drivers. I have tried 32 bit and 64 bit (my computer can handle both) with no accomplishment. To see the full story, go to the link below. I made a post on afterdawn forums and no one could help me... http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/683092 I have tried ubuntu 8.04 (which worked the first time) and ubuntu 8.10 Alpha 2
Cant Install any hardware on my comuter. FOund New Hardware wizard does not work and i cant use USB devices!? Hi, about 4 months ago my computer stopped recognizing USB devices for some reason and everytime i plugged them in the new hardware wizard popped up, i clicked next and it would search for about 2 seconds then say windows cannot install the new hardware. All this stuff was on my compute rbefore and none of it works now, printers, mp3 players, flash drives, even my usb keyboard, i had to buy a new one with a ps2 connection! I looked thorugh forums and they told me to delete all USB drivers and then uninstall all USB devices, port and hosts off the device manager and when i turned it on they should reset themselves but when i did turn it on all that happens is Found NEw Hardware pops up, with unknown devices, and when i click install it just runs for 2 seconds and says it cant install them. I trying leaving power supply off for 2 hours and still no luck. Ive also downloaded the chipset drivers from intel and no luck there. Ive also tried manually installing and that doesnt work either!

Recurring computer problem involving the blue error screen and the computer restarting itself? I have scouted soo many forums, including Windows' own, but cannot find a half decent solution- or one that makes sense! Every half an hour or so, or sometimes more frequently, everything stops and I'm taken to that blue screen of death with the following message, or something similar: A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. win32k.sys PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA It rambles on about how it could be a problem with hardware or software- but that bit is obvious! Is there a solution? Many thanks!
Installed Ubuntu 8.10 on my computer. The internet won't work on Ubuntu but it will on Windows! Help ASAP! Plz? Hello, I am a complete Linux newb, and have never used it before. However, I just installed it on my computer, so now I can dual-boot Windows and Ubuntu 8.10, Intrepid Ibex. It works very well, but I can't connect to the internet. I've tried alot of stuff, but none of it works. I also tried a different modem, so I know it's not my modem. And I know it's not my acvtual internet connection, because it works magnificently well and very fast on Windows without a single problem. I've looked around for an answer to my question. All I found was something about a NIC card. I want to be able to use the internet on Ubuntu without having to do anything really technical, since I'm a bit new to computers, and I don't want to have to take my computer apart or spend any money, or anything like that. None of my Applications can access the internet either, like my E-Mail client on the desktop, or the Pidgin messenger. When I go to manage Network Connections, this comes up, or something like it: Eth0 Eth1 Dial Up 1 But none of them work, no matter how many times I restart, reboot, try, there's nothing that works. From what I've read in some different forums, you need to know what "NIC" I've got, and a few technical details. Feel 100% free to E-Mail me if you need anything else, I just really really really want this to work. So, here we go. My NIC is: Realtek RTL8102/8103 Family PCI-E FE NIC That's exactly what it says under Device Manager in Windows, and I have the driver updated. Next, Modem: PCIe Soft Data Fax Modem with SmartCP Driver Provider: CXT Driver Version: 7.80.0.0 I also have this driver updated. This modem's name (the one on the actual modem) is: Westell Model 6100 Processor: (This is listed twice for some reason, but they are both EXACTLY the same.) Intel(R) Atom(TM) CPU 230 @ 1.60GHz The driver for this is, once again, fully updated. I also have another modem. This is the one I've been using, but I just noticed something. In the device manager, it's listed in "Other," and has a big yellow question mark next to it. When I try to click "Reinstall Driver" it says "Cannot Install Driver, Software not found." However, this is the modem I've been using and it's always worked. It doesn't matter anyway, because I've tried using both of these modems with Ubuntu, and neither has any different effect. The name on this actual modem is: Westell Model 6100F. So I guess they're pretty much both the same. Now for network connections, seeing as we're done with hardware. By the way, I'm sorry this is so long, but I'm really desperate right now and I don't know how much info you need. When I go to network connections (BTW, all of this has been in Windows, just to let you know :P) , it says "LAN or High-Speed Internet" at the top. Underneath this, where the icon is, it says "Local Area Connection 2 Connected Realtek RTL8102/8103 Family PCI-E FE NIC" Just like that. When I double-click on it, it says "Address Type: Assigned by DHCP." It then has my IP Address, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway, and when I click on "Details" it has a whole host of information, like "Physical Address," "DHCP Servers," etc. One odd thing is that the WINS Server (Whatever that is :P) has nothing next to it, and the "Lease Obtained" and "Lease Expired" are the same date: today, about fifteen minutes ago when I switched my modems. I don't know what that's all about, but I hope you do. Next step is how my internet is set up. I'm sure you know already, but just to make sure. I have DSL, NOT wireless, just plain old wired, provided by Verizon. I have a phone jack outlet. An adapter for two other phone jacks is plugged into this. In the first phone jack receiver, my telephone is plugged in. In the second, the one that leads to the modem, the outlet labeled "DSL" is plugged in. On my Westell modem, a dual wire comes out of an outlet labeled "Data." One half leads to the "Ethernet" outlet on the back of my computer, and the other leads to a USB port on the back of my computer. The modem has three lights : "Internet," "Data," and "DSL," all of which are lkit up green. Data and DSL give a slight flicker now and again, but that's always happened and nothing comes of it. On the back of my computer, there is a green phone jack outlet labeled "Line." I don't know what it's for, but no wires can reach it because the DSL wire has to be plugged into the phone line, and on the dual wire that leads from "Data" that I spoke of earlier, the split is too small; the only way for the phone jack to reach this green "Line" box would be for me to unplug the USB that leads from my modem, and I don't think I should do this. On my other modem, the one I don't usually use, the setup is the same, except that there are five lights: "Power," "Ethernet," "USB," "DSL," and "Internet." All of them except "USB" light up, but that may because of this: there is an extra outlet on the back of this modem, a blue one, that says "USB." The outlet looks like it would accept Hey, it cut off my question because it was so long, hahaha. There's only a little bit more, so I had to ask a separate question. Here's the link to it: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Asp85.XkNBuxPF018NQbFJ7sy6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20090408144455AARd21c I guess just copy and paste it. Thanks a lot! The outlet looks like it would accept the kind of wire that I plug into my printer, not the kind you think of, like the ones on XBOX 360 controllers, or iPod chargers. It's kind of a square with a rounded top. I don't know what this is for, and I've never used it. However, I do have a blue wire that I usually use for my printer that fits this. One side is the kind of rounded-top square that would fit into the modem, and the other side is a regular USB plug: the kind you do see on 360 Controllers, iPod chargers, and flash drives. So that finishes up the internet connection part. Okay, last bit I suppose. My computer. System: Microsoft Windows XP, Version 2002, Home Edition, Service Pack 3. Hewlett-Packard Company, Compaq Presario, Desktop, 0,99 Gigs of RAM, and then it says "Physical Address Extension," after it lists all of the stuff about CPU and all that, that I've already told you. Some general info: I have Ubuntu installed on "Ext3" a partition of my harddrive (C). I had a bit of trouble with the partitioning, but it went through all right. I transferred my files to Ubuntu during installation. BTW, I don't have one of those weird things where your IP changes if you shut off your computer and turn it on again, so that can't be the problem. The information on subnet mask, IP address, and all of that, matches the info I get when I type "ipconfig" in command prompt. My computer still has alot of memory, and is pretty much still brand new. I got it in January or February of this year. It came with Windows XP, as per usual. I have tried Kubuntu and Pardus before this, and they had the same problem: everything perfect and awesome, but no internet coinnection. So I don't think my specific distro (version) of Linux is the problem. Oh and also, on Linux when I try to make a connection it has :Eth0 Eth01 (Or just Eth1, I can't remember) and Dial Up 1. None of them work. One is listed underneath the Realtek thing, and the other two, (not sure which ones) are listed under the Westell modem, no matter which one I have in. Well, I really really really hope you can help me. If you answer this, and it works, I'll just ask a bunch of random questions, give you the links, and grant you the best answer on all of them so you can rack up some points. Feel free to e-mail me or contact me on yahoo messenger. If you answer this question, please continue to check in on it from time to time in case I post additional details that pertain to your answer. Please, also, try not to be too technical. I'm getting better at this, but it's still confusing. Thanks all, you'll never know just how much I appreciate this. ~Ryan There, I suppose that's against the rules, but it's not specified. I just extended my question over the additional details, so you can ignore that link. Thanks again! :P Oh, and whats everyones opinion? openSUSE, Ubuntu Ultimate, or keep Ubunut 8.10? I need one that comes with Open Office, GIMP, and some cool stuff. What's openSUSE like? I always wanted to try Poseidon, even though it's mainly for scientists and stuff. I heard GoblinX wasn't too great, and I want one that I can install, that's easy to install, that's cool, and that is compatible with the eye candy stuff for the KDE4 desktop thing. You know, the cube and stuff? By the way, HUMONGOUS thanks to John R, I think I tried it already, but I'll try it again. In the meantime, everyone can still keep answering!!! And John R, yeah, I would like if you showed me how to download all that cool stuff for the KDE4 Compiz-Fusion thing or whatever it's called, that's actually what made me first look in to Linux, hahaha :P But now I love it, and I think it's so much better, faster, efficient, safe, secure, and generally all-around cooler than Windows! Plus it's completely FREE! So keep the answers coming!
Computer hangs/freezes for no reason? My computer hangs/freezes for no apparent reason. It completely freezes (no mouse movements, no keys working, no Ctrl+Alt+Del). I don't have any virus on my machine. No unnecessary software. I have formated my hard drive several times and installed the original copy of Windows but all in vain. I did not add any hardware recently. I cleaned the heat sink and fan of the processor. I read on the forums that the temperature of the CPU and Motherboard should be monitored. But I don't know what is the ideal temperature for the CPU/motherboard/hard drive. I installed SpeedFan 4.33. This software shows speed of two fans. It also monitors the temperatures of hard drives. What I can't understand is that if the issue is because of overheating, then what should be done about the temperatures? Using SpeedFan to control the fans or an external fan to cool down? Specs Compaq Presario Processor: P4 2.2GHz RAM: 1MB Hard Drive 1: 80GB Hard Drive 2: 120GB Windows XP Home Service Pac Hi xTF rules :) The temperatures for hard drives are 46C on each. The CPU temperature is around 46-49C. If this is high temperature for CPU, then how can I keep the CPU cooler?
Why does my (new) computer sometimes freeze when booting? Last December, I bought a 3800+ Compaq Presario. 2.0GHz dual core, 1GB RAM, 250GB HD, etc -- a decent computer for the price. It came with Windows Vista pre-installed, however I don't like running Vista unless I have at least 4GB or RAM, so I formatted the box and installed Ubuntu Linux -- unfortunately this didn't work very well because Ubuntu couldn't recognize a lot of my integrated hardware (maybe because I was trying to install 32bit Ubuntu, but my box is 64bit -- I spent a few days sifting through Linux forums before I decided I would probably be better off downloading x64Ubuntu and reinstalling. Unfortunately, I need I working computer so I again reformatted and installed Windows XP Pro SP2 (and converted my old box into Linux as a substitute). Windows XP worked beautifully for probably about 4 months -- then it started acting wierd (sometimes) when I was start the machine --- When I pushed the power on button I would see the BIOS information, then you see the low-res Windows Splash screen, and then right about the time when Windows switches into graphics mode (using your video card drivers) the system just hangs at a black screen. Soft reboot doesn't work. You have to hold the power button in and then when the computer starts up you have to select safe mode (if you say boot normally, the machine will repeat the hanging scenario...) and then once at the Safe Mode login, select Shutdown/Restart. 75% of the time this will cause the computer to boot normally, however sometimes it still hangs and I have to hard reboot and again boot to safemode. It's really irritating. Anyone solved this problem before? PS. I know that the video card drivers seem like the obvious culprit, but I've already researched and found that I am using the correct version with most up to date release as directed by nVidia and Compaq.
Computer/Internet Related - Where should I start and how should I go about it? Hi. A quick background, and I'll be on my way. Every since I got my first computer some odd years back (10+), I've been overly interested with them. I know pretty much how to gut them and put them back together due to just ripping it apart. I'm fairly well at putting anything together I take apart. Anyway, I lost interest in pretty much everything. Now I'm interested in too much. I want to do everything from installing hardware, making PCBs, CAD, learning the in's and out's of various applications and operating systems, programming for software as well as the web; it's just too much for one person to learn. Well, at least all at once. So I am asking where I should probably start, and how I should go about it. I do not have a ton of funds at the moment; as I am sure many of you have noticed, the economy is shot. Anyway. I am not for piracy; regardless of what media and/or content is being pirated (e.g. music, movies, software, etc). I like free stuff, just as most people do. I want to take what I learn and apply it to help everyone. As an example; if I spent 5 years of my life creating an operating system I would still let others use it freely, as well as grant GPL rights. Not everyone has $XXX.XX to pay for that top notch software. My main objective at the moment, at least I think/feel that it is, is to learn how to create a website from the ground up. I want to be able to make multi-page sites with wiki, forums, a chat, blog, private tracker (yes, for torrents, but only for freeware alternatives) etc. I want to set it up so that I may let others register, as certain this would need to be moderated, as well as credit given. I need to know enough so that I can setup analyst, ads for supporting it, possible PayPal or comparable for donations. If you think I'm contradicting myself, you don't know the difference in donation and required payment. I've donated a bit, it's always nice to help someone who does something worth while. (Rambling on... Sorry.) Anyway. Answering the very basic question at hand will do, but if you know of the exact languages I will need to learn, programs to make layouts or to learn the skills required, books, etc I will appreciate any such information. Also, please don't say something stupid like "Google it", any variant or similarity. I search a lot, and have found a bit of information, but some of it is a little advance and not for a beginner. Thank you. I apologize for any errors, etc. PS - If you do not know what freeware or GPL is, you should just Google it real quick. Not contradicting myself. Resources: http://www.gnu.org/ http://www.fsf.org/ (Free Software Foundation) Summary: What do I need to learn in order to do all the web related stuff I previously mentioned. What languages/scripts. How should I go about learning them; i.e. order, where to find info, etc? Hope that's good enough.

What is the real reason for motherboard or hardware crashes? Hi! I just bought a new HP Pavilion dv2000 special edition last week 06/04/08. Looks stunning, yes. but as i write this 06/10/08 i have already reinstalled my windows vista because of a certain virus or something. Then my research began. i visited some of my well trusted computer repair shops and told them i had a new HP. They told me they had dealt with more than 20 HP's due to motherboard failures. Then i tried visiting notebookreviews.com. A great site for notebook/laptop reviews and forums. On the HP Pavilion category, i found similar problems. Now here's what i'm trying to figure out. I just can't get it that a multibillion dollar company such as HP would try to destroy their business creating trashed up laptops and waste their business. motherboard failures? hardware crashes? is it maybe due to the user and how he/she treats his/her laptop? is it because of the YET unstable Windows vista? or the stupid anti-virus softwares that comes with it? please help! Thanks!!
Whats wrong with my new computer? Ok I made a new computer here are my specs Asus P5Q SE Quad core Q6600 HD 4870 512mb OCZ PC2 8500 1066 MHz CM 590 with 500w PSU Basically I can’t install a new os it will always hang on the vista background I replaced my mother board still same issue I ran memtest 86 and it said hardware faulty So I’m replacing my ram but when going to a lot of forums they say that OCZ have a lot compatibility issues with Asus boards is this true and what are the mains ways to identify faulty ram with incompatible ram. My bios does see all my ram but...........so confused right know I got 4GB of ram running at 1066MHz And it’s a new computer if I can’t install a OS in the first place sorry if I wasn’t clear enough i Really want to know how to check the difference between faulty and not compatible ram !!!!!!=)
problem with sound on my computer? I have a 5.1 surround sound setup on my computer, but for some reason the sound coming out of the middle speaker isn't right. I am not entirely sure how to explain this. Sound comes out of the middle speaker, for example, when i play music, music comes out of it, but when I play games (for the example i will use GRID, a racing game) the sound is weird. So I'm playing GRID, some sound comes out of the speaker (like ambient noise) but I can't hear my engine. Another example, in Call of Duty 4, I'll be staring directly at a person talking to me and I wont hear them. Ill have to turn so theyre at my side so I can hear them from my side speakers. I think turning on hardware acceleration for my sound card will fix the problem (thats what i've collected from forums and other websites) but when I go into the options to do it, the option is greyed out and I can't select it.
Why is new flash drive freezing my computer? I have just recently bought and tried to use my first memory stick, but as soon as I insert it into any USB port it freezes my system. I have tried it on other computers and it works fine, but just not on mine. My webcam works fine too in the USB ports. The `New hardware detected' indicator doesn't even notice it. However, the light on the flash drive does come on. I have already tried several forums to research this mystery, but there doesn't seem to be an answer. My OS is WinXP home edition, which has 4 Removable disks under `My Computer' and I have approx 5 USB ports, all of which work with my webcam?????
Is my ethernet port dead? Hi im wondering whats wrong with my ethernet port. When i connect it to the modem i get no connection no nothing i read tons of forums and i have tried to replace cable and the modem is new too so its not that. But when i go to my computer hardware its showing that my ethernet card is working ok... So the only way i can connect is a USB port but we all know its slower. please help!!
Computer Monitor won't turn on, is something broken? I just assembled a new PC. And everything was working fine until I switched my PSU power output to 230 WATT, turn it on (realized it wasn't working), then switched to back to 115 Watt WHILE IT WAS ON. From what I read in online forums, it looks like I doubled the electric output to my desktop. So people tell me something fried. However, the Graphics Card Fan, the CPU Fan, and the Case Fan all work just fine. The RAM is doing ok as well. I don't want to send anything back w/o being sure which part is actually broken, any suggestions? Or do new hardwares now have surge/power protectors for dummies like me? Note: - I have a OKIA 600 (680 max) WATT power supply -Please don't tell me to get another CPU, MB, to try it. I don't have any extras. -Anything else is welcome Thanks!
Computer Gaming Mouse With No Rubber/Latex Grips? Is there a good gaming mouse that has none of that rubber coating on it like a lot of these mice seem to have today? I'm allergic to the rubber they use. Fingers gradually dry out, then lose feeling, then crack.. peel and eventually bleed.. just from average use of these mice. A doctor has diagnosed this problem.. and told me that i need to change mice.. but i'm not sure what is safe now. Anyone know? http://forums.logitech.com/logitech/board/message?board.id=hardware_mice&thread.id=15583
Why are my speakers not working? Hi, I don't know if what I'm about to tell you is related with my speakers not working, but it's quite coincidental that my speakers stopped working after I opened up my computer (for the first time might I add, I bought the computer in August '08) and put it back together.. The sound was working fine when I plugged everything back on without the casing, but when I unplugged everything from the computer and placed back the casing on the computer it stopped working. I only noticed this the following night. But get this: - When I plug in my iPod headphones into the speaker jack (also headphone jack ON THE COMPUTER) they work, so I suppose we can rule out a internal hardware problem. - When I plug in my speakers into the iPod to amplify the sound it works, which means the speakers are working perfectly fine.. So what's the problem? It has to be some sort of configuration error and what not, but I've already checked Device Manager, and there are no hardware errors or changes. I'm completely lost on this one. I've even posted this on a computer help forum where a bunch of highly intelligent computer people sit and wait to answer questions, but I have yet to receive an answer, I hope I can get one here that helps at least a little because there are simple more people using this service than the help forum. Remember this computer is only a computer of months old and the sound is actually working fine. It can't be my sound card though and that's why I'm partially confused. My sound works with other speakers, yet my subwoofer speakers (my original speakers I WAS using, but don't work on the computer) work on my iPod, just simply not the computer. Also, I have Windows Vista. Vista does not require for drivers, besides I've been using these speakers all the time before I opened up my computer. Something that may conflict with something is the fact that I have two ports for audio, one in the front for easy access and one in the back. Interestingly enough, the one in the front works for speakers that are USB with the green colored ending. When I plugged the exact same speakers into the back, they do not work.. But when I plug in my subwoofer speakers (original) they do not work in neither the front and back of the computer. I feel there may be a connection problem. I do plan on opening up the computer and seeing if that's the problem. I fixed it! Thanks everyone. It must of been a simple disconnection. I opened up the computer and woolah! it's fixed :)
Computer games running DXDIAG? i want to play an online game called soldier front. how to connect 2 routers from one dsl modem? i have a dsl modem and i use a linksys wirless router for my laptop. with this setup the internet works fine every now and then my dad has his own for work that has specific settings on it for the online programs that he uses, the router is provided by his work and is password protected. every time i try to add his router to the setup of mine and the modem, no connection can be gotten on the computer, my laptop or my dads laptop. The only way he can get it is to replace mine with his for the whole weekend, leaving me intenetless. This i cannot stand for 2 reasons, one, im one of those geeks that sits at his computer all day and just reads forums about new hardware/software thats comming out, and secondly, the internet is my life and a weekend without it is horrible. i dont want to ask any of the other forums that i usually visit becuase of fear of loss of ego :( plz help me, its bothering me to know that i cant fix somthing computer related.
How do I sum up my "average" know-how about computers in my curriculum vitae? Im just wondering how to put into words all the know-how that I have regarding computer when I compose my CV. I can use MS Word, PowerPoint, a little of Excel, I can do some tweaks on a Windows-based pc, im fairly familiar with IE7 and now exploring FireFox, I can install (free)security software on a friends pc and teach them how to use it(antivirus, antispyware, antirootkit, firewall, antispam, antiphising, etc). All of these I came to know by myself using my home pc(no formal training) and by reading a lot of wonderful websites & forums. I dont know programming and unfamiliar with hardwares(I've never opened a pc). Now how do I sum them all up(short but impressive) in my CV? Being "computer literate" is a bit cliche for me. And, by the way, do you know of any free software I can download or website that can help me write a good looking CV(layout, theme, etc)?
