Computer frustration...Why does my notebook?

I have an HP notebook with... >2.4 GHz AMD Turion 64 X2 >1 GB Ram >Windows Vitsta Home Premium >Linksys/Cisco Wireless router - wrt54gs >Standard WEP Protection >Arris cable/telephone modem - Time Warner Here's my problem. I'm surfing the net with no problems, but... Here is the chain of events... -Pages start to load incompletely -BAM! I get the message "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage -The Internet goes out completely, just stops! -Nothing can connect The Strange part... -My computer is still connected to the router because I can print to the network printer attached to the printer, and I can still access my files on my desktop computer in the other room. File sharing remains in operation, but internet stops dead in it's tracks. -The computer still says i'm connected to the router and internet. -Then I have to restart the computer and after that it works fine for about 20 hours, then it does it again! Why, it's so frustrating? By the way... All of my modem lights remain normal.

  1. sounds like the router is loosing the IP DHCP lease. Being able to print and no internet is not a problem. That's how it's suppose to work (layer 3 device) Ensure the cable is screwed all the way on modem and check the modem lights on the front. They should be on and green. ping an internet address (click start>program>accessories>command prompt, then type ping www.yahoo.com. you will get a response back.
  2. first try an antivirus, spyware scan. start form there. have you tried other software that connects to the internet like msn, yahoo msnger. if that connects, might be the internet explorer. if not, try to chech on the servers internet sharing. unshare it then share it again.
