  1. We purchased 3 HP lap tops in April 2005 for my husband, myself and our then 17 yr old daughter and the only problem we had was the power cord on one of them wore out and it was under warranty. We have been very happy with and when we retire these and get new ones, it will again be HP. Ours are the dv5115nr. I do not know all the specifics, but I do know it came with Windows xp. It has a turion64 processor.
  2. My son has an HP laptop that he REALLY likes. It's been very reliable, and has been a good computer for the money. The only issue he's had with it has been the hinges on the case, which he had to replace, but his computer gets a LOT of use.
  3. Depends what you use if for. I Wouldnt recomend them for gaming, but for everything else they are great. Hp has improved alot over the years. The specs you posted are great as well.
  4. If all you do is check email, browse the web, and write papers then any laptop will be fine for you. If you are looking to play games on this you might be a little disappointed though this isn't the worst laptop for games by far. As far as laptops go, you are paying a huge premium for the portability. Spending the same amount of money on a desktop usually gets you a computer that is twice as powerful. As far as the HP brand goes, its one company that make up its mind. They previously wanted to go back to a printer focussed company, but now they are releasing everything from new cameras and computers to wireless televisions. Overall, the quality of their products seem to be at average with the rest of the computer companies such as Toshiba and to a lesser degree HP's own Compaq brand. As far as the technology goes, the Turion processor is outperformed by any of the Core 2 Duo processors and even most of the Pentium Dual Core processors as well. The TL-58 is a higher end Turion, but does not offer the processing power of the least of the Core 2 Duos. I always would like to see a 7200 rpm drive over a 5400 rpm drive in laptops. Battery life doesn't suffer all that much compared to the performance gains. This can be upgraded of course. The Memory at 2GB is what is needed for Windows Vista Home Premium, but the brand and model of the RAM is way more important than just having enough of it. This is an easy place for companies to save money and they usually go with cheap brands like Centon or similar. Look for Samsung memory to be included. That is probably the best you'll find in a off the shelf system. Otherwise, Kingston, Corsair, Crucial, OCZ, and Mushkin all have high-end memory that you can't go wrong with. Let me know what you think and if you have any more questions. Since you didn't quote a price or tell us what you usually use your computer for and what you would like to use this computer for it is always difficult to provide meaningful suggestions, but I tried my best.
