How Do I Tell If VWBeetle Check Engine Light Is on Because I need o2 sensor? ANd How TO Change one?

My 2000 GLS 2.0L Beetle just had its check engine light come on. Hooked up to a computer it is throwing the code of P0411 (Might be PO411) Secondary Air Injection System Incorrect Flow It this my Pre Catalytic o2 sensor gone bad. Is it expensive to fix? Can I do myself or my boyfriend? I am using gas like crazy. I just need to know what is it and if/how to fix it. PLEASE! Help Me Out! PLEASE HELP ME OUT! Gas isn't cheap to be going though so quickly and getting ready to move for college. YES MY TIMING BELT NAD SUCH HAVE ALREADY BEEN DONE! I know what I do about the VW's I can but just want to make sure I am replacing right part and correctly

  1. I doubt this code means bad O2 sensor, I saw many of those cars having troubles with secondary air pumps. Take it to VW dealer just for diagnostic - it shouldn't cost you more than $100, but at least you will know for sure instead of just throwing new parts in. It easily could be something else, not the O2
  2. Your problem is most likely a broken vacuum line. Other problems can cause this to such as Mass Air Flow sensor and throttle body.
