Wireless problem?
ok let me be very clear: I did a REPAIR installation of windows XP for a SP1 cd. I have a compaq presario 2500. it has a few buttons, wireless button, volume + and - buttons and a mute button. The + and - buttons are responsive, and function correctly, the mute button has an orange led light and does not either respond or function. The wireless button is the same, except i followed some instructions from a tech support guy, re-installed all my drivers and used WinsockXPFix.exe. in safe mode, which was supposed to fix the problem i bring to you now...THIS IS THE IMPORTANT part. i am currently writing from the notebook in question, using an Ethernet cable, both the ethernet and the wireless light are blinking on my router, yet when it try to connect wirelessy all my browsers cannot do it, and the info on my wireless connect reads invalid ip 0.0.0.0 and the safe for the subnet mask, i did a repair, it said it failed, but the ip is now different. STILL NO CONNECTIVITY PLEASE HELP ME

- reset router wpa security is the worst can be hacked easily
- turn on pc parent computer. repair de conection of your modem in the desktop. I recomend did u put wpa security key. read the book of your router, look where is the ip of that router , click where it sayed wireless , follow the intruction of the booklet. i advice security key, that the person who try to get in most put the key u put , hex 0 -9 A-F . recomended 128 bit. verify the cable are good conected something the cable get a little lose or turn of your modem and your router like 20 second the turn in on.
- have you tried ipconfig /renew? open the command prompt, type in "ipconfig /renew" and then enter. Also, does your wireless card have its own software for connecting? Do you see your wireless network SSID from the software? Try downloading the software for the wireless adapter, or maybe try another adapter
- If the wireless button is nonresponsive, you may not have correctly installed the wireless drivers. Go to the device manager and check to see if your wireless is available and clear under network devices. If it is not there....or there is a yellow exclamation on top of it...you have a problem....most likely driver related. If the ip address you are seeing now when trying to access the internet via wireless starts with 169....you are not reaching the router. Your router would probably give you an IP starting with 192.
- Assuming you have already unplugged the router and modem for at least 30 seconds and then reconnected. Have gone into the router set up itself and checked what it reads there?
- Maybe you have compatible drivers but not the right one, here is a link to COMPAQ website http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/pfinder?query=presario+2500&lc=en&cc=us&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&dest_page=product Choose your model and browse drivers.
