Can I swap mother boards of different style notebooks or use parts from one notebook to fix another?

My compaq presario turns on then turns off immediately. I went through some HP on-line diagnostics I was told that the mother board is grounding out. I have a dell notebook that I can use if swapping parts is an option.

1. It is not an option. You cannot swap motherboards of laptops.
2. Depends on what parts your wanting to swap over. And as far as the motherboard you would have to see if the motherboard from the dell system would even fit in the compaq. And 9 times out of 10 since the casing will be different your not going to have any luck with that. Most manufacturers have parts to fix your current notebook and they are not too too costly. I would recommend you check with compaq/hp to see if they have a refurbished motherboard and replace it that way. Unless the system is under warranty and of course i would have them replace it.
3. u r not atechnology master so dont even think of that the laptop is not a very cheap thing get it to service center have confiedent to work on desktop these thing but not on ;aptops bcauz they are so delicate
