Gateway Parts

I would like to know if I can replace mother board in a gateway pc?

The old mother board has had power surgies go through it or some kind of electrical problems. I am not really sure. but I would love to just replace the mother board and use some of the main parts like the new modem I just installed and the sound card.

  1. yeah you can replace the motherboard. make sure everything is unplugged so no electricity is flowing, then follow directions to remove it. You can keep the modem and sound card.
  2. yes...you can replace it....
  3. If you replace the motherboard you are basically replacing the parts that make it a Gateway. The bios is what holds the gateway info. and that will go with the mobo. You should be able to use most of your cards, modems video cards (if it has any they may be onboard in which case you will need to buy a graphics card) Your memory will work on other mobo's but they need to support the same type of memory. Hard drives and other drives will plug in but it will probablynot run your old hard drive with the new bios. You will have to format and reinstall your os. and finally you need to make sure you get a mobo that takes your processor. Socket A Socket 7 or Pentium, so you have to know all of these things . Good Luck.
