Gateway Parts

My computer freezes a lot and it happened after my friend put on the firefox browser. What to do about it?

Only some things work. Most things don't. We can't use explorer anymore, and word will open, but everything remains untouchable. The computer freezes a lot and we have to use force quit to fix it a lot of times. We've even had to restart the computer. The ocmputer is an HP pavilion and my brother says that they really "smashed" the parts into the computer. It's a tight squeeze. What can I do about all of this?

  1. You do consider the fact that your free space on your hard drive is more than 50%? Your RAM and Processor speed also plays significant roles to it... Delete unnecessary files on your system, backup your not so needed files onto a CD or DVD, defragment your computer three times in a row so you will see whether your system will quicken up.. Just a tip...
  2. Get rid of firefox. I had firefox for a year and it was implanting viruses in my computer that were difficult to rid. When I finally deleted the program and removed it, I switched to a new virus scan program. I found out I had over 296 infections!
  3. Delete firefox and use IE7.
  4. Its not a hardware problem. The manner in which you organize the parts into the computer has not bearing on freezes. When your computer locks up freezes when you are on the net it usually has something to do with your computer maintenance. If you have most of your freezes while on the net. This is probably due to your virtual memory. When your PC on the net it needs a certain amount of free space to temporarily load info. When that folder becomes full and is not clean regularly, It cause a lot of problems. So, clean your Windows cache and increase your virtual memory. If the freezes happen even when your are not on the net. This can be due to a corrupted registry or other software conflicts. You indicated this freezes started after installation of new browser. Sounds like a registry problem. Do a scan of registry. If you have more than 30 errors. It needs to be cleaned. Should see more speed this way. XP repair pro is a good maintenance tool to avoid freezes. Hope this helps.... http://www.delete-computer-history.com/fix-computer-freezes.html
