Gateway Parts

Why do so many laptop manufacturers like Acer and Gateway put such crappy speakers on their laptops?

I like some of the features of this Gateway laptop, but I swear the speakers just sound so weak. They are not like the Altec Lansing speakers on HP and Compaq laptops. What is the big deal that they dont put some decent speakers on their laptops? IT seems that this should not be a huge expense to do this.

  1. I'm sorry, but you are complaining about the basic computer speakers that they gave you with your pc. Go out and buy some decent ones (with a sub) - or preferably plug your computer into a stereo with a couple of 12" subs, and never look back.
  2. tell me about it...hello ear phones
  3. Iv'e got an ACER and it's ok.
  4. Money, Money, Money. For you to spend 10 extra bucks for decent speakers might not seem like a big deal. But for Acer or Gateway who might save millions of dollars if they buy speakers that are $1 dollar cheaper, its a no brainer. Anytime a company manufactures hundred or thousands of the same exact thing, saving a few pennies can add up to huge amounts.
  5. Tell me about it i've got an acer and the speakers suck talk about not caring abou customer satisfaction. Kinda dissapointin
  6. I have to agree you you, it'a not such a big deal and certainly it would boost the prodution cost so much. However the lptops you referred overall use the cheapest components around. And it doesn't have to be Altec Lansing or JBL to provide a very good sound. I recently built a Compal barebone based laptop. Compal is also a provider for all those brand you referred but astonishingly my unbranded (or COMPAL-branded) speakers performs as good as or even better than the AL or JBL ones I've checked in many high-end laptops.
