why so much hate for gateway laptops?

their laptops are great! i have mine now, and its the best. why does gateway get so much hate now,? i think most of the people who claim to not like gateway, are only going by what they heard about gateway. why the hate?

3. I am on an Acer now but I still use my Gateway laptop with Windows 98 on it for lots of things. I have had it now for 10 years and it still works well. I have never had to phone their support so I cannot comment on that. The only reason I got this Acer is because i cannot go on broadband with Win 98.

6. Their support Their tendency to be VERY propriatary Everybody likes thier laptop when it is working good, it is when it breaks down 2 days before the warrantee expires and Gateway won't make good on repairs.
7. gateway is owned by microsoft. most people hate the programs (office 2007, windows vista, ect.) that microsoft has made in the last few years
8. I really don't know, I think it's leftover hate for the company from ownership of Gateway machines in the past- the new laptops seem to be good (and inexpensive) machines. Our office bought one about 8 months ago and it's great- no problems at all! I've heard plenty of horror stories about their support, but haven't had to call them.
