I need to install a microphone on my Gateway Laptop?

I need to install a speaker on my Gateway laptop, which uses windows XP, to talk over the web with other students in my Spanish class. Where do I get the microphone and how do I install it?

1. you can get a basic computer mic at wal mart for 10 dollars there should be a jack similar to that which you put headphones in in the same area as the headphone jack
2. get the microphone having USB port/male female conductor and attach this with usb port and install the driver and set in the control panel of sound and devices.
