My notebook (Toshiba Satellite L100-194) shutdown without any warning & HDD or CPU makes noises?

I have an L100-194 notebook, which was really good. I have two main problems. First, the HDD (or the CPU, I don't know) makes interesting noises. It likes "screaming". It occurs at least once in every hour. Just half or one second long and loud. The other thing is when my computer shutdown without any warning.Shutdown. No signs, no screens. It occurs in Ubuntu and in XP too. I hope someone can help me. But I think I have to go back to the store where I bought it. Someone told me that the problem maybe overheating related. If the temp rises to a critical level then the notebook shut downs to prevent the hardware from the damage. Possibly the cooling modules don’t work correctly and cannot cool the notebooks parts properly. Possibly the strange noise comes from the cooling module and the ventilators don’t work as should. What do yout think?

  2. Hi. I had the same problem with my lap top about 6mnths ago. I propped it up with two hockey pucks on the back so that the fans would get more air and the shutting down stopped. It's just over-heating--the fans are in a bad place because they are underneath. If you want new fans a computer tech told me it would cost $100 plus installation.
