Can This Be Fixed or Should I Buy a New Notebook?

I have an eMachines M6805 model notebook that I bought about two years ago. The cover has cracks on both sides where it attaches to the hinges on the main part of the laptop. As a result the cover is getting very floppy and loose. Can this be fixed? Would I need to get a whole new cover/screen? If it's expensive, should I just buy a whole new notebook?

  1. It's unlikely to be repairable I'm afraid.
  2. You should be able to get it fixed for under $500. You should SHOP AROUND for quotes. A friend of mine got his laptop fixed in New York City for around $300 after checking with several repair dealers. Next time, buy a laptop that has is solid. Toshiba notebooks are AWESOME. (Dell breaks easily too). Here are some simple rules to help prevent drops and damage: 1. NEVER loan your computer to anyone EVER 2. ALWAYS hold it with BOTH HANDS 3. ALWAYS keep it on a solid desk, or inside the carry case. 4. When in the car, always have it on the FLOOR, never leave it on the SEAT. 5. Prevent theft - never let go of it when you are in public. Never leave it visible in your car. ALWAYS register your laptop, so it can be REPORTED stolen. Your manufacturer can help. Laptops are the NUMBER ONE stolen item in America. Why help a drug dealer get rich? Good luck and Happy Computing!
  3. Your hinges are probably broken. Some hinges can be replaced, and some can't. I can't tell you without seeing them. Most of the time you have to replace the whole screen and that is usually too costly to be worth it.
