Do you know how to solve the whining noise from my Gateway laptop?

My MT Gateway laptop makes a high pitched whining noise when running off the battery. I have tried changing the power management settings and also the power management of the USB hubs, but nothing works. Gateway havent helped either. Does anybody have any ideas please? ITS NOT THE FAN!!!

1. change all your power settings to default you fan needs replacing
2. Slam your fist down hard on it till it stops, works for me. Mind you, you might need to buy a new case every christmas.
3. Its your fan, clear out any dust and fluff from the casing and then open the case. Ground yourself before you do and hoover the inside.
