How to activate the numerical "keypad" and other accessary key pads (marked in blue) on a Gateway Laptop?

My Gateway Laptop has an "Fn" key highlighted in blue in the lower left of the key pad. When I use it (press down on it) and use another of the accesroy (in blue) keys - eg. screen brightness / screen dimmness - nothing happens. What is the procedure? What else might I be doing that I am not? It seem this should be a simple process...so I figure I am missing something. Serious and fairly simple answers only! Thanks!

1. Well that is what I was going to tell you to do....You may want to get that checked out...there could be a defect! Because that is what you were to do.
2. its very simple... Just u have 2 do is keep d "blue FN" button pressed (remember pressed) and d brightness key together to make work...both keys shud b pressed together .... if still it happens check if ur scroll lock or num lock is on It will sure do
