Can i Put Parts from my dell dimension 8200 in a different computer i am currently building?

Ok so i am currently thinking about building my own computer. This will be my first time attempting to do so. Right Now i have these components picked out: Processor:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116027 MotherBoard:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813138079 RAM:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820141429 Graphics Card:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150247 I was just wondering if i could salvage these parts from my computer and have them work in the new system: CD Drive:PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-111C Hard Drive:MAXTOR 6L080L4ATA interface I am also wondering if i need a sound card. Any help is greatly appreciated.

  1. Yes you can use those drives on the new motherboard, it has 2 pata ide channels so will support upto four pata devices (pata is the old standard) although you would get better hard disc performance if you bought a sata drive. You don't need a sound card as that motherboard has onboard sound. WARNING that is the wrong sort of ram for the motherboard, it''s DDR the board you linked to only supports DDR2. Two of these is what you need. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820134045 Or two of these would be better if you are running Vista. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820134632
  2. As long as the motherboard has an open PATA (IDE) slot, then you're fine with the DVD-RW and Hard Drive. The motherboard you're looking at appears to have two of these - perfect. Your motherboard has onboard audio from Realtek. While this is better than not having onboard audio, it's nothing to get excited about. Most integrated audio controllers steal resources from the CPU to operate, and can hiccup from time to time. For best performance especially in gaming, it's best to buy a standalone sound card. If gaming is not important, then the onboard audio should work well enough for you.
  3. I wouldn't buy that old board and CPU .Check out the site and you will see a modern 775 board with CPU and RAM for the same rice as your old board and CPU. You can use your old driver with no problem on the board I linked you with.
