Building a Computer with Parts from Old Computer?

I have a 5 year old dell PC (when I bought it was a middle class PC). I am planning on building a new PC and was not sure what parts i could use from the old one. The new PC would not be used for games but rather as a home business computer. What parts can i salvage from the old PC and what parts do i have to buy new. I am somewhat familiar with PC but never built one before. I know i need a motherboard, but not sure which one to get (what motherboard works best with the new Intel 2 core duo. Also, should i get MS vista or XP, as it seems that most people are having problems with Vista

1. Please next dont make the question soo long.
2. anything over 2 yrs old is out of date, anything 5 yrs old is ancient, old technology and is not usually supported anymore, hard to find drivers for etc...if by chance the graphics card or sound card was top of the line back then, they are always handy to keep around just in case..ur cdrom is junk, motherboard no good, i always keep a good mother board and ram chipsets however, again just in case...hard drive can be used on ur new computer for storage if its 20 + gig..i keep fans around, power supplys from old computers, not necessarily for rebuilding new ones but just incase~~ good luck
3. I must agree with wild1 on this one. Dell's hardware is crap to begin with. You would need almost everything new.
