What is the quality of gateway computers?
I've had my gateway notebook for a year. I heard they don't last much longer than a year should I start looking for a new computer?

- short answer, no . explaination - gateway laptops last more than a year. they are under warranty for a year, so if anything is broken you should get it fixed. i would also consider spending the money on a backup solution as apposed to a new laptop that way if your laptop did fail you would not lose your data. i have seen gateway laptops that are only a few months old die and have seen some that are 6 or 7 years still running. its hit and miss, as it it with most manufacturers now adays. something to consider- if your on xp at the moment you would not be able to get xp in a new computer since they are all released with vista now. this alone is a good enough reason to keep your machine running. usually the hard drive will be the first thing to go so long as the computer doesnt get dropped or misused everything else should last for a few more years yet. the hard drive will usually fail from 2 - 5 years of use. when that happens you should purchase a seagate hdd for your laptop those will generally last more towards the 5 year end of the spectrum.
