- I dont really know what you mean by your question. If your talking about RAM, PSU, CPU, Video Cards etc. Basically swapping parts? If so, it all depends on the CPU socket type, the ram slot type, the motherboard, your chipset. Lots of things come into play. You need more details. Email me if you need any help! ;) -Garrett
- Do you mean which type of OS can you network together with your Windows based Gateway? Well, if so, then the easiest would be other Windows based systems, however, any type of OS based system can be networked with a Windows based PC. You can network an Apple Macintosh, or Linux/Ubuntu system, you just would require certain configurations to do so that make it a tad more difficult, but truly not much. You see, the Internet and WWW is constructed with certain protocols which make networking, both externally with the Internet and internally in private networks possible. IP addresses,TCP/IP, and the like all work together regardless of which OS you are using in the machine. Here is a short Wikipedia article on the Internet Protocol Suite which is standard for making networking possible: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_protocols From there you can link to other terms and perform searches to expand on your knowledge and understanding of the technology. I use Wikipedia and other forums to learn, and indeed I have learned a great deal in a short period of time. I became a geek in my older years! Ugg. There is a really good book called, "Absolute Beginner's Guide to Home Networking", which you can pick up at any book store or even a larger electronics store such as Fry's Electronics which walks you through the steps, terminology, technology, and hardware related to networking systems for home or a small office. You do not need a Server to network up to 10 Ethernet systems, and actually can add unlimited WiFi connections and other hardware such as printers and fax machines very easily with a modem and wireless router. It even has a section on building your own Ethernet cable.
