how do i wipe a gateway computers hard drive?
My kids got into some annoying pop ups and I am just frustrated and want to start from scratch. Any ideas how to manually wipe the drive so I can just re-install my devices and drivers? I did not know about it until my security was already added, and it will not get rid of it.

- The easiest and best way to wipe a brand name computer such as your gateway is to use this setup CD that came with the computer originally. You would simply install or put the CD in the drive and reboot your computer. As your computer is booting up you would hit F2 or F10 to go to boot options. Then you would choose to boot to CD. When it boots to this CD, you would choose to "rebuild the computer" or something like that. It will warn you all of the data on your hard drive Will be erased. this is okay because it will erase everything and reinstall the operating system and hardware drivers and put the computer in the same condition as when you first bought the computer. if you do not have this disc, it becomes a little more difficult because you will need a store bought windows XP or Windows Vista install disc to make it happen. You would follow the same procedures as above, but use the standard install disc instead of the boot CD. Tip: you may consider going to download.com and downloading some of the spyware eliminators before you go this route. Adaware is a good one and so is Spybot Search and destroy. These may get rid of those pop-ups for you and prevent you from having to rebuild the machine.
