Why are Gateway computers not as popular as other brands?

I just want to know if there are any solid reasons not to buy a Gateway.

1. they tend to be a good computer best buy carries them
2. the gateway company has seen better days and they probably will eventually be bought out by dell or hp. also their support sux gateway computers just dont have lasting power compared to dell or hp or a custom computer
3. When we were shopping for a new computer, we noticed that gateway computers were a lot more than the other computers. We did our research and didn't find a reason to spend more money for the same thing in a different brand.
4. They're great lappys. I've had mine for over a year and my little sister bought a new one last month. My friends at school have all kinds of Gateways and only the sloppiest kid I know (the dude litterally got so mad that he threw his laptop around) has a broken one. Everyone else's Gateways work perfectly fine. I've read on some forums that the hinges crack easily, and out of the 7 Gateways that I've seen/see on a regular basis, only that one that I mentioned early has had a broken hinge. Support wise, I went online because I couldn't contact anyone through the phone. Their phone service was horrible but the online help was a ton more helpful.
