Are Gateway computers good and reliable?

I need a laptop for college, and I saw a nice gateway one, but people keep saying its not really that good. they recommend Toshiba or HP, but I liked it.

2. I had read in consumer reports that Toshiba was the best but I just loved the screen on the gateway. Well I got the MX 6030 on 11/25/2005. It has been serviced four times, is currently suffering from the same short they never fixed but is out of warranty. I honestly expect to throw it away and get a new one. I had owned two desktop Gateways and have an EMachines. Based on how they treated me I will never buy from them again.
3. i wouldn't go with a Gateway. There not as reliable as the Toshiba's or isf you plan on doing any gaming go with an Alienware.
