Bad computer repair service from Best Buy?

Hi- I bought a Gateway laptop computer from Best Buy. Under warranty from Gateway the computer screen went out. Best buy did a diagnostics that I had to pay 70$ dollars for. They said the mother board went out- in the end it was a computer screen. Best buy sent the computer to their office in Kentuky and there it is waiting for a part from Gateway. It has been 6 weeks and no guarantee when I will get the computer fixed and returned. In the meantime I have no replacement and the warranty is running out if I need the computer repaired again. Best Buy says that it is Gateway that is responsible even though I bought the computer at Best Buy. Any one else have such a bad experience with service under warranty? Any suggestions?

  1. Best Buy doesn't have many knowedgable people working there, it's better to go to small local shop
  2. That is bad service you have got yourself in. Perhaps it's better to buy straight from the manufacture where possible, in this case Gateway and cut the middle man (Best Buy) out. Your just going to have to wait for it to be returned, not much you can really do other than calling them every now and then to annoy them to get it to you quick as possible. Changing a motherboard does not take long. If they need 6 weeks to change a motherboard I would definately look elsewhere to purchase from now on. Perhaps they are still trying to work out where all the screws go.....?
  3. It does come with a warranty but it is through Gateway not Best Buy..The only way Best Buy will cover it is if you actually paid for an extended warranty through Best Buy themselves..They are only a retailer, they just sell the products that the manufacture supplies.
