Gateway Computer Help-GATEWAY MT6916?
I have an issue. I am currently covered under the Gateway One Year manufacturer warranty. The alt key on the right hand side of my Laptop has broke off...I called gateway about it and they gave me two options, I could send my computer to them and they fix it, or they could send me the keyboard and I call them and we replace it together over the phone. I choose, 2 weeks ago, to do it myself with their keyboard. I received it today. Gateway scared me out of doing it myself and now are mailing me a box to mail my laptop to them. They said for people who have never done this before, it is too risky. Then, I just found out that Circuit City AND Best Buy both offer help and they can service it (if I already have the part) and they BOTH only charge $39.00 for this service. I don't know what of these four options I should do. What would you do. Would you trust gateway, yourself, Best Buy, or cirucit city...HELP ME!!

- It's actually fairly simple to do it yourself. I myself have done it on multiple occasions to replace keyboards on my family's laptops that have worn out key letters. On the underside of your computer, there are certain screws you must unscrew (they are labeled differently with each company) and they are labeled with something that could be a small icon looking like a keyboard, or one that is labeled with a 'K' (for keyboard, but that's dell, i believe). Just unscrew them all and it just pops out! Unplug the small ribbon cable by pulling down the small piece of plastic on the back. Then just plug the new laptop keyboard in and it sets in to the laptop. Just turn it over while holding it in place and screw the screws back in.
- It depends how fast you want it fixed and I'm guessing you don't want to wait forever for Gateway to fix it and send it back to you. Circuit City would probably be the best bet.
