Gateway Parts

Is there a way to recover my computer in working order withOUT deleting everything on it? Recover XP? HELP?

I have the Recover XP disk and it's helped me before wit another computer, and I have used it on this gateway laptop as well. I don't remember what I've done before but I booted it up before and got to a part where it asked if I wanted to continue, and if I did it would mean that all of my computer's data would be lost. I answered no but when I went back to my desktop all of the problems were fine. BUT NOW WHEN I DO THAT, IT'S NOT WORKING! MY DESKTOP JUST KEEPS DISAPPEARING AND RE-APPEARING! AND THAT'S THE PROBLEM I'M TRYING TO FIX! Did I do something that I don't remember? Is there a way to recover my computer with this disk without erasing everything? And no, my system restore doesn't have any points to go back to so don't even bother typing that.

  1. I had the exact same problem a couple of days ago. When you computer boots up and before your Desktop disappears go to start search click on all files and folders and in the search bar you put in Restore and click search System Restore should pop up click on that restore your computer to a different date maybe a week or so back! You will not loose any information by doing this. If that does not work your going to have to hook your hard drive up to a windows XP compatible computer to the slave ribbon and manually take the files off yourself.
  2. You can reinstall XP to a diferent directory, do not use the recovery CD
  3. this might be painful but its worth it. copy your entire hard disk onto a new one. you might need to buy a usb one, or put it on the secondary hard disk. after put your recovery disk in and turn it off, remove the secondary hard disk. now use the recovery disk. i must warn you your computer may not accecpt the secondary hard disk, and therefore you might not be able to use it again, get someone smart to help you with this.
  4. Start your computer in safe mode then click start then Help & Support then System Restore, a window will appear with calender click that date when your computer was working well, after a while your system will be restore to that date and it will work properly, if this does't work, then Insert your Windows XP Cd when command screen appear choose upgrade option instead of new installation, your windows will be upgraded without loosing any programme or setting.
