My laptop is asking for a Hdd password what do I do/ Its a Gateway solo 9300?
i just recently bought a gateway solo 9300 and after a coupke days of us it stop working...A blue screen appeared asking for an HDD password and the person I bought it from has no idea what it is...What do I do so this computer is not a complete loss,or a further cost....

- If it is second hand, the person you bought it from may be ripping you off, selling a HDD that has a password they DO KNOW. The only solution would be to try format the drive, via a LiveCD, or a Install CD (Windows XP/Vista). Then after that, you will have to go through the dirty work, installing Drivers, and a new operating system.
- Get someone to download and burn to cd " Hirens Boot cd" it contains programs to over ride windows passwords and bios passwords etc plus tons of other helpful utillities
- Sounds like a BIOS HD password security. Can reset the BIOS by shorting out the BIOS jumper but is hard to get to in a laptop. Not sure if getting a new HD or removing it and formatting it on another computer will fix it. Might be some software that bypasses the password but may not be a real fix.
