I have a Gateway Laptop Solo 2500 with a dead cmos battery. How do I get to the cmos battery to replace it?
This computer still runs Window 98 and I hate to invest much money in it because it's getting dated. I would like to try to access the cmos battery but need help in finding out how to this without damaging the computer. Also any advise on where to get a battery and how to connect it would be helpful. I have put cmos batteries in desktops but I think this one has to be soldered in, not sure.

- its a lap top? look at the bottom you will see a slidy thing to hel you remove the batter on the battery will be a model number go to the gateway webste for support and more help
- Often times that battery is simply a standard "quarter" sized alkaline battery that you can buy at your local hardware store. 2025, 2016, or 3012. Everready or Duracell make them. They are usually just a couple of bucks.
- its not soldered in its a button battery win 98 its prolly a 2038 lithium or a 2032 walmart cvs radio shack sells them pop it out with a small screwdriver flat head or a tooth pick shut the computer down first then look at the batter when you pull it and get the same one
- no your CMOS battery is not soldered on it is plugs into the motherboard, you can get a service ticket setup andlet the service center to replace the cmos battery that way if it is damaged at the center it will be replaced. Where the CMOS is on the under side of the motherboard, you have to remove the bottom plastics and screws.
