what is wrong with my gateway solo laptop ?

the pictures are distorted like it has to few or to many pixels.Its o.s. is microsoft windows 2000 service pack 4.Its display is 16 bit color.In the device manager it says the video controller (vga compatible) device drivers are not installed.The icon for this video controller is a big yellow question mark.I ran microsoft pc doctor diagnostics for windows and everything passed except for hard drive test :surface scan.Here is what it says.Unable to read drive 1.Error 23.Error verifying drive1( of1), sectors 17021844 - 17021971. _Event:20_28.Unable to read drive 1(of1) Error 23.Error verifying drive1(of1), sectors 1702159 - 17022286 ._Event:20_28.And that is all i know to tell you.Thanks for any help.

1. That is a couple of good-sized chunks of teh drive not working. I'd guess it may be time for a new hard drive (try e-Bay) or a new laptop. The company I am with had problems with Gateways.
