gateway solo 9100 bios will not see hitachi dk23ca-20 harddrive VERY WILLING TO GIVE 10 POINTS?

important: (PLEASE ANSWER NOW I AM TIRED OF WAITING A YEAR FOR ANSWERS ON THESE KINDS OF QUESTION, VERY WILLING TO GIVE 10 POINTS) the gateway is a very old laptop not newer solo 9100. it is a 20gb harddrive, i have put the info in the bios manually and it still says failure on fixed disk 0 or somthing like that. the harddrive works perfectly on my ibm thinkpad, the gateways original 7gb harddrive works fine. the maximum size of harddrive the gateway will take is 30gb.

1. this boils down to a faulty Hard drive if the board will take a 30 gig. But are the jumpers set ok on it?
