Gateway Parts

Question about my laptop with a broken screen...?

I have a gateway MX6131 that I bought for $1100 last Oct (2006). Well in the middle of Dec my boyfriend's sister and her boyfriend were fighting and she was on my laptop and hit him with the screen part and it shattered the screen on the laptop. So it wasn't even used for more than 6 weeks before the screen was shattered. Well it's been sitting in my bedroom now since it was broken and I've looked into it and it would only cost about $150 to get a replacement lcd screen and about $50 dollars to have the screen put in at a computer repair store...might be cheaper down south, I live in Alaska and this is the best price I've been given up here. Well I really don't have the extra $200...baby on the way and what not and $200 goes a long way - diapers and such. My question is what would a fair price be to sell the laptop for?? Being as it would only cost somone $200 to fix this thousand dollar hardly used laptop. I don't want to get ripped off but I do need to sell it. Thanks <3! Yes we've been trying to get them to pay for the laptop for almost a year now. It's been like pulling teeth. They are a couple of losers. When they see us they act like they did nothing wrong, breaking my computer actually ended up costing me thousands of dollars...I was doing schooling over the net and had everything on that computer and wasn't able to complete things by their due date and paid 3 grand for schooling I couldn't complete because everything was on my computer. Sucks but such is life I suppose.

  1. It's not still under warranty?
  2. I would sell it for about 800 or 700 considering it would cost 200 to fix it and if it's broken i'd take off an extra 100 or 200
  3. You can always use it with a monitor, but if you don“t want it anymore, eBay is a good place to sell it, How much are you asking for it? But your boyfriend sister should pay for it, that is only the right thing to do.
  4. laptops depreciate fairly fast, also technology that was state of the art 6 months ago are now out of date and therefore are worth much less. So you shouldnt expect to get much more than $500 if that.
  5. If you can get it fixed do it that's a cheep price and why would you wait so long to fix it and the most important point of all make your so called friends who broke it pay for it your not their punching bag!
  6. It is not going to worth selling. With a broken screen expect peanuts for it. Try to find the screen for it on Ebay for less then put it in yourself. It's not all that hard. The screen molding around it pops apart when you remove the screws under the rubber plugs.and the top cover over the buttons by the hinges pops out as well. Remove a few screws, unplug the screen and it comes right out. Put the new one in replace the screws and you're laptop will work fine. You can also just get a small flat screen monitor and plug the base of the laptop into the monitor. Did you consider charging your boyfriends sister and her boyfriend for the repair? They must be a couple of losers not to offer to get it fixed.
