are all laptop and notebook computers preparatory.?

Do all laptops and notebook computers have to use there own parts, and can't use GENERIC.

  1. Not sure what parts you are talking about. Hard drives are not proprietary, nor are PCMCIA/CardBus cards, USB dongles etc. Typically you do not replace components such as CPU, motherboard, video card in laptops... Keyboards are general specific to particular laptops, as are screens, hinges, cases...
  2. Proprietary? Usually the only parts that would be "proprietary" would be the motherboard and case. Even the chips on the mobo are standard commercially available items, but nothing you can do there.
  3. Many parts in a laptop are generic...memory SO-DIMM's, hard drives, and optical drives are some examples. However, if you want to swap the LCD or system board, it becomes a bit more proprietary. The trick is figuring out who supplies the parts for your laptop...in essence, figuring out who supplies the parts to Dell, HP, etc. For example, the system board might've been made by Toshiba or LG, or even a generic Taiwanese manufacturer, but it's been shipped to America and branded as a "Dell" system board. Companies like Dell aren't usually very forthcoming about who their suppliers are. It would be your mission to figure that out.
