Gateway Parts

Are Mac computers superior to say Dell or Gateway?

I am looking into getting a new computer soon, and was wondering if Mac are really are far more superior brand than other computers. I understand that they don't run on windows like my current computer, so if they don't run on the same software will I still be able to do my on-line blackboard classes at school? What software do they run on, since it seems like everything is compatible to windows? Can anyone offer some guidance?

  1. They aren't necessarily superior, but you can run Windows on a mac. This could be ideal for when you have software that is only available for windows machines. You shouldn't have a problem with blackboard since it is all browser based, but if you do have trouble with your mac finding support for them can be a little bit of hassle since there are less mac users than pc users. That said I lover my mac.
  2. It is like comparing  to bowling balls. I have 2 dells, oh the flipping grief. Ask your school. If they code in xml, any computer can read it.
  3. i adore my dell, and my best friend loves her Mac, so i can't SWEAR to one or the other. you should probably check into how much support your school has for Macs, though, because mine has none; they basically just send you to a Mac store off campus, kind of a huge pain. you CAN run windows on a mac (and blackboard does have to be run on mozilla or internet explorer to work completely right- internet explorer is better, unfortunately), but it's a pain because every time my friend needs to do something for class, she has to shut the computer down and reboot in windows. hope that helps!
