Is it normal for a Gateway computer to have Micron memory?

My computer has been running horribly slow so my husband gave me his memory from the computer he doesn't use any more. I put in his 120 meg Kingston and looked at my old one and it was a 32 meg Micron memory card. Why would Gateway use Micron?
