are HP laptops better than Gateway laptops?

i'm just wondering if HP laptops are better than Gateway laptops? Or is it vice versa? i just need some opinions! this laptop is for college. :)

1. Indeed HP are much better than Gateway. Gateway was purchased by Acer, which are an entry level machine. HP make a more durable unit, using higher grade components.
2. They both are horrible computers... Buy a Dell and if desperate a Sony... Or you can get the absolute best computer a MAC! But really I'm serious dells though not very pretty in design are really kick butt computers, Sony computers make a good trendy alternative though... But I can tell you right now if your investing a grand or so a Mac is the best investment in money worth, and in a computer overall.
