How do i fix my hp computer

I have a hp xp computer that I bought couple of year's ago and now it's not working properly. I click the turn on button and it load everything well in till it finish loading up the windows xp loading part. After that part it goes into a complete black screen and couple of seconds later it restart itself. It's been a month since it keep doing that. I try to click f10 at the start but it wont load up. I think something is wrong in the inside of my computer but I open it and everything seem to be in the right place. Can somebody tell me how to fix this problem thank you.

  1. It's the problem with windows, or your hard drive. Try repairing windows using a windows installation cd. If that fails then it might be your hard drive that crashed.
  2. Assuming the problem is actually hardware, there are these little round can-shaped things with flat, shiny metal tops inside your computer. Find them; they're called capacitors (or "caps" for short). Look at the ones near the processor itself and see if any of the tops are not flat anymore. If any of these are "bulging" upwards at all, then you have bad capacitors, and that means you probably will not want to pay to get the machine fixed. Check them on the video card as well, because I have seen cap failures on video cards too. A little groove or two in the top of the capacitors is normal, but not being flat is a clear sign of failure. The power supply may be the problem as well, but this is not as likely, based on my experience. Try hitting F8 repeatedly when you turn the computer on, BEFORE the "Windows XP" splash screen ever appears, until you get the "advanced boot options" menu. Choose "Disable automatic restart on system failure" at the bottom of the middle part of the menu. If you're getting a blue screen of death, this will ensure that it doesn't auto-restart on you before you can read it, which may be what is going on. If you get a nasty blue screen with a STOP message, it may be software instead, but it still could be hardware too. Ask another question when you've tried this out.
  3. Does your computer start with a bootable floppy or CD? If it does try below. Sounds like your computer has some corrupted files. You might have to reinstall XP. BUT first try these. Restart your computer and press the F8 key Choose SAFE MODE and when XP is loaded restore your computer to a previous date. If XP does Not load restart > F8 > Last Known Configuration If does not work restart > F8 > Repair
  4. the problem is the windows or your hard drive.
