Mac Desktops, all they're cracked up to be?

My desktop's the better part of a decade old, needless to say, I need a new one. I saw the ads on TV for a Mac Desktop (I think they're called iMacs or something) and they seem to sound way better then anything else out there. On my computer I use Microsoft Word, Movie Maker, Photoshop, and I also play a wide variation of games so I really need something that can handle those programs without freezing up and crashing on me (like my horrible Acer notebook did) and it should also have a lot of room, I love to save everything. I don't personally know anyone with a Mac so I can't ask what it has in terms of a Movie Making software and writing programs that it may come with, or how well it works compared to a normal desktop and I would really like to know which one would be best so I can start saving up for one.

  1. I bought a desktop iMac when they first came out in 2002. I have not had a single problem with it. My daughter even dropped a bead down one of the air vents in the back and it hasn't caused any problems. Macs are easy to update with new operating systems and there are Word, Excel, etc. compatible. They are much better for digital photo and video editing. In general, the operating system is very user-friendly and fun to customize. I have thoroughly enjoyed my Mac. It will probably only be able to handle one more upgrade before it starts running so slow I won't want to tolerate it, which is hopefully at least two years away. That's an impressive run in my opinion, given all the use I have gotten out of it, with no problems at all.
  2. All new (Intel) Macs can also run Windows (= Gaming), so you need to go to the nearest Apple store and give them a good hard test drive. And, ask lots of questions. Then, decide for yourself. TIP: Just don't make the mistake of comparing an $1,500 Mac to a $500 Windows box, like most people do. The hardware must be very similar.
